You want great food cart BBQ, close to downtown, with friendly service from people that genuinely appreciate your business, this is the place. You might be confused by the branding. The stand-up signs says Mack’s, but the trailer says Danny’s. Either way, the food be good. And the seating for a food lot is comfortable. Parking around the location isn’t too bad either. The guy working the cart seemed a little confused about my Paleo no-sides, no-bread order. But I get that most places. I went with ordering ¾lb of brisket, thinking that would be fairly straightforward. However, it took him a good 10 minutes to get the portion worked out. And even then, I’m pretty sure it was ½lb at best. By that time, I wasn’t interested in arguing, so I didn’t make an issue of it. I think a better portion size is had by getting the 2 or 3 meat plate instead. All that said, I’ve been back three times because of the people and quality of the food.

Ate the pulled pork sandwich. The combo was the sandwich, chips and a drink. With a tip it was about 8.50. I enjoyed the meal — the bbq had a good flavor. Pickles and onions were included in the sandwich(he offered them up but i didn’t realize they’d be in the sandwich… thought they’d be on the side). With the pickles and onions though I’m not sure there was a lot of flavor. I realize it’s a trailer with limited storage, but would have been nice to have a choice of chips other than the regular Lay’s. The guy working the trailer(Danny?) was very friendly and set my expectation from a time perspective because he was the only one working. The food was served very fast so no issue with a long wait.

Danny is one nice guy. Like, seriously nice. I was a little weirded out simply because you don’t run into nice guys like Danny that often. Anyway, the best part is the food… it was good! I actually enjoyed it more than Rudy’s or Saltlick. I won’t get too into it, but it is just some good smoked meat w/the right balance of sauce.

I was familiar with the Danny’s BBQ location @ Airport &MLK, near my pad, but stumbled on their trailer at East Side Drive In only a couple weeks ago during the craziness of SXSW. I’m so glad I found it that night! Danny’s regularly features tasty brisket and sausage among other options and I love to get beans and lays chips as sides. I find myself relishing every onion and picke and event the 2 slices of white bread, useful for mopping up the succulent juices/sauce from the sausage and brisket on my plate. I understand they may be relocating within a month(and they just barely opened at this location) due to the development project at East Side Drive In, but I hope they find another place nearby real soon. I recommend the 2 meat plate combo for lunch or dinner! It’s a great value!
