I just visited Dr. Gordon’s office for the first time after an 18 month lapse since my last checkup. I’ve had mixed experiences with dentists for the past 5 years or so and have had a tough time finding one that I really liked. I was referred to Dr. Gordon and I consider it my new dentist home. The front office staff was warm and welcoming and thank you Rebecca for the awesome cleaning as well as Dr. Gordon for the thorough exam and open conversation about my dental health. I highly recommend the whole team.

I have tried other dentist in the past because of insurance changes. I have always gone back to Dr. Gordon because he is a very good diagnostic dentist and his staff is so friendly. I just had a cleaning and I have sensitive teeth. They were gentle with me as always. Than you Dr. Gordon and staff, and happy new year.

I can only speak to the insurance verification process and the office’s lack of transparency when I was a new patient signing up for a routine dental exam.
Online, the website states «Insurance: As a courtesy to our patients, we accept most major dental insurance plans and will take care of filing primary insurance claims on your behalf. We will always assist you in maximizing your dental benefits.»
When I was first scheduling an appointment, the office staff collected my insurance info (I have Delta Dental) and I assumed everything was fine. I received a call a few days later from the office staff who stated I would have to pay up front and out of pocket for my routine cleaning, but Delta Dental would cut a check for me after the visit — I found that strange since I’ve never had to do that before with any other dentist offices. When I called Delta Dental, sure enough they notified me that Dr. Gordon’s office is «completely out of network» meaning he is not contracted with ANY dental insurance.
Upon calling the office back to cancel my appointment, I was told that «oh yes, we are not in network with anyone.» I am disappointed that this crucial information was not made more clear and transparent up front, especially since the website information is contradictory.

My husband went to Dr Gordon for some work to be done last year on ⁴⁄₁₉. Nice guy, nice office. BUT my husband was convinced it was «important for his health» to get a Saliva Test done — I’ve been told by several people since then this is just a $$ add-​on to make more money in the practice — this is something only an MD should be doing.
And, besides the fact that he never told my husband that it was $ 175, that was what he was charged for «Analysis of Saliva Sample» when he left. It was alrleady done, so he paid it. They billed the insurance $ 175. (Which they won’t pay because it’s coded as a MEDICAL expense.) End of story, right?
No. On ⁴⁄₃₀ they send out another statement from the dentist’s office that now reads «$ 135 Analysis of Saliva Sample» AND «$ 135 Collection of saliva sample»!? $ 270.
When I called to ask why it went up, all they can say is that it must have been wrong on the paperwork as it came in from the hygenist. They did, however BILL INSURANCE AGAIN for $ 270! AND they have no record of «why I paid $ 175?» because their records all say $ 135×2 now…
Shame shame. Such slight of hand has lost our business. There are MANY great dentists in Austin who bill you once & are happy when you pay in full. They don’t change their records and come after you for more.
STAY AWAY from this office — AND, if you have already gone, be SURE to keep your original statements & proof of payment so you can make sure they don’t do the same thing to you.

Great dentist, great staff and easy to book appointments. He frequently has openings and they automatically email you if you choose that option. I was in & out in under 30 min. Hygienist was very thorough and Dr Gordon asked about my concerns, hygiene habits as well as my feedback.

Professional, clean and caring. I now have my whole family going to David Gordon. Today I took my 10 year old daughter too him for the first time, her comment after we left was «you know Dad, now I don’t mind going to the dentist.». even my wife who hates going to the dentist likes Dr. Gordon. From taking care of his patients to the referrals he gives for other services, you can’t go wrong. Now there’s a smile you can trust!

Having moved to ATX recently, I was in need of a new dentist. I actually found Dr. Gordon by simply walking past his office every day to/​from the gym. Glad I called!
The appointment was oddly enjoyable, and incredibly thorough. Everything from the friendly office staff to the knowledgeable hygienist to Dr. Gordon. It was all great. He’s incredibly friendly and takes his time with patients. I always get nervous that dentists will try to sell me on unnecessary treatments and procedures, and I got a good feeling that Dr. Gordon does not work that way. He is definitely a patient advocate with whom I felt very comfortable
So glad to have found Dr. Gordon’s practice. Highly recommended.

My wife and I have been going to Dr Dave Gordon for more than 10 years. I could not envision changing dentists. He’s the best.

Yes, I DID FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE DENTAL BOARD. THEY WERE SURPRISED THAT GORDON DID NOT REFUND ANY OF MY MONEY. THIS IS A MUST READ RESPONSE TO DAVID GORDON’S POST ABOUT THE RESULT OF MY COMPLAINT AGAINST HIM. THE BOARD CAN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT A DENTIST THAT DID POOR QUALITY WORK ON A PATIENT UNLESS IT IS DETERMINED THAT THE DENTIST’S WORK FELL BELOW THE STANDARD OF CARE. IN COSMETIC DENTISTRY THAT IS A TOUGH THING TO PROVE. JUST BECAUSE A DENTIST DOES VERY POOR COSMETIC DENTISTRY DOESN’T MEAN THAT HE/​SHE IS A BAD DENTIST. I DID BELIEVE DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY BOTTOM AND TOP TEETH DID NOT FIT TOGETHER CORRECTLY AND THAT THERE WAS DECAY UNDER MY VENEERS THIS WOULD RISE TO THE WORK BEING DEEMED BELOW THE STANDARD OF CARE. HOWEVER THE DENTAL BOARD DIDN’T SEE IT THAT WAY. THE BOARD DOES VERY LITTLE TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST MUCH MORE SERIOUS COMPLAINTS THAN MINE, SO THEIR FINDINGS WITH REGARD TO MY COMPLAINT WAS AN EXPECTED POSSIBLE OUTCOME FOR ME.
According to the Better Business Bureau, more people complain about dentists than lawyers.
The likelyhood of a complaint against a dentist in Texas resulting in any action against the dentist is very unlikely. If you live in Texas you will want to read the below information — it is shocking. The below information is from an article published in 2000. Last year, the board revoked only one license which was that of a Georgia dentist found guilty of insurance fraud who then committed identity theft to become licensed in Texas. Of the few dentists disciplined by the board, the majority received probation. These included a few who prescribed drugs to themselves, one who practiced with an expired or nonrenewable license, another convicted of insurance fraud and a crack cocaine addict.
The agency’s executive director is Jeff Hill. Hill acknowledged that a staff turnover rate of 30.77 percent last year, twice the average for state agencies, created delays in investigating complaints, but he said that this, too, might stem from the budget crunch. Hill — who has been at the agency since 1995, as general counsel for most of that time — defends it against criticisms of lax enforcement and said it is as aggressive as it can be with their low annual budget, non competitive state employee salaries and merit pay raises capped at 1.7 percent by the Legislature. The agency operated for a year without a full staff of investigators, three of the five positions were vacant. After the enforcement director resigned the investigators had no boss.
«Our investigators are not dentists,» Hill said. «When we are dealing with issues that have to do with the standard of care provided by a dentist. .. our investigators, who are not experts, may miss something. They may not ask the right question.»
But according to employees who have left the agency, the board disregards investigators’ findings for reasons that go beyond the investigators’ lack of dental knowledge. It’s a good old boys network. The employees say the board lacks either the legal and financial muscle or the will to punish dentists who violate the standard of care, break the law or cause harm.
A former employee, one of three sources who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution, said, «When you do investigation after investigation after investigation and you see a high level of proof of serious violations, and time after time nothing happens, it’s frustrating. You don’t want to do it (anymore).»
The dental board doesn’t tell the public about complaints or investigations unless they lead to formal disciplining of a dentist, so potential patients do not know the truth. There could really be 0 or there could be 20 complaints filed against a dentist unless formal charges are filed you will never know about it.
The confidentiality of complaints, should be looked at and rescinded. The question to ask is: ‘Does this protect the public, or does this protect the dentist?’ The way it appears is it protects the dentist.”

As I previously wrote, Dr. Gordon is an extremely likeable guy. He has an awesome chair side manner. I liked him so much that I had suggested him to others, including my daughter. My daughter had her teeth cleaned and saw Dr. Gordon for a consultation. She really liked him. Just be aware of how bad things can get for you if you are a patient of Gordon’s and something goes wrong.

Having just moved to the area, I was in the market for a new dentist and boy did I manage to pick a GREAT one! From the scheduling and new patient paperwork to my cleaning and exam, this was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve had at the dentist.
Dr. Gordon’s office is very professional, courteous and friendly. The office itself is easy to find, clean and up to date.
I had my cleaning with an easy going hygienist who did an excellent and through job. I have certain teeth that are sensitive when then get cleaned. My hygienist told me this wouldn’t be a problem and applied some polishing treatment to the areas before she started cleaning. They do have flat screen TVs above the exam chair so I was able to catch the news and take my mind off the fact that I was sitting in a dental chair.
Dr. Gordon is so personable. He did an exam of my teeth and let me know of certain things to look out for with concerns he has for some of my teeth. We talked about my dental history and he even ended up writing me an RX for another ailment that came up during our conversation.
This is strange, but I can’t wait to go back again in 6 months for another cleaning!

DISCLAIMER: As the son of a dental specialist I tend to expect more flexibility from my dentist and his/​her staff.
I was referred to Dr. David Gordon by a friend. Dr. Gordon is young, energetic, and retains a professional staff. After leaving my previous dentist because of scheduling issues, I found interacting with Dr. Gordon’s administrative staff to be as simple as it should be.
Dr. Gordon’s office is located in one of the new mixed use buildings downtown, which makes seeing him during a workday very convenient. His office is well-​lit and well-​designed. There is free water in the waiting room, and the dental chairs have those TVs (although I was never handed the remote and had to watch ‘The View’ during my cleaning).
As usual, my cleaning and x-​rays were handled by a hygienist. She was more nervous and there was more pain than I was used to. The cleaning was thorough. The x-​ray machine had some issues, which required some to be retaken. Dr. Gordon was friendly and professional, and gave a very complete evaluation of my chomps. He was very personable; I learned of his daughter’s first cavity, and he asked about my being raised by a dentist. He also has one of the most impressive smiles I’ve ever seen.
I found my bill to be on the low end for a cleaning and complete x-​ray set. I will be seeing Dr. Gordon in the future.
