Sent my account to collection not even two weeks after my son moved out. I’ve made all the payment, never received the move out report indicating an issue.

Good location but bad service, old rooms, rooms without locks, friends things got stolen from their room, bad food.

The dobie center is probably one of the most convenient places to live for not just incoming freshmen students, but for all college students. The dobie center gives students the option to get what they need without worry. If you’re hungry there’s no need to worry there’s a cafeteria that’s open early in the morning to late evening every day which allows students to get the food they need to get through their day. Plus there’s a convenient store and several food courts on the lower levels just in case you miss out on the food or etc. Plus there’s washing and drying machines so that students on every floor can wash their clothes when needed. In addition, the dobie center allows students to socially interact with one another like no other place, so if you want to meet new people I highly recommend to live here. Also the place provides free unlimited internet which is not bad via wifi and it gets better if you’re using ethernet to connect your computers. I would give this place an easy 5 stars once they hopefully get google fiber in for the next semester. But in all honesty you’re paying to live at dobie for solely the convenience that it provides, which I recommend for all parents to take into account when trying to figure out a place to put their child for the school semesters.

I was in town for business and attemped to reserve conference rooms at this facility. Initially, someone responded immediately and said they could definitely accomoadate us, but after that became quite unresponsive. They responded immediately then only followed up once saying they would call me, and never did. I have followed up multiple times, even calling the mobile phone of the manager that he provided, and the mailbox was full. We exchanged a couple emails and he apologized for being busy, but I didn’t hear from him again.
I emailed the facility’s management company to see if there was someone else I could contact (I had both the individual and the general info email on my emails and NO ONE had gotten back to me). It’s one thing to never respond, but it’s another to respond intermittently and have a potential customer think that they’ll be able to book a space with you; I could have searched a little harder for other alternatives but stopped because I was getting at least some response.
Regardless of whatever industry you’re in, customers should NOT have to keep following up. If you want business, you have to act like a business. This was completely unprofessional. If you’re looking to do business here, I recommend finding somewhere else.

Quick update! 8÷21÷14:
I moved in temporarily as a Pointe on Rio resident since the Pointe won’t be completed on time and there were fruits flies all over my room. I was told the problem was fixed but, 3 days later, I have collected 8 dead fruits flies on the mirror in front of my sink! At least Dobie’s staff won’t tell at you for filing a maintenance request!

I don’t know what Shannon is talking about. Aside from the solid group of friends, this place is not too great. Once you get passed it’s shiny glass façade it’s easy to see why this place never fills up with leases. I lived here my freshman year and found roach while moving in (on the 13^th floor) so I knew it was bad. The lighting is HORRIBLE and sketchy, the water was always breaking, there was not hot water on multiple occasions throughout the winter and good luck if you get hot because the AC isn’t the best. There are SO many different options around campus so save yourself the time with trying to deal with this place. Also, my suite-​mate threw up all over his room and they made us clean it up so I would be careful walking around the rooms because you never know what might have happened with the dilapidated carpet before you moved in! Good luck! I’d MUCH rather live on campus. I would say the only great thing about this place was my specific RA because she honestly cared about us but you can find that on campus! Good luck!

Okay this is THE biggest outrage of my life. DO NOT LIVE AT DOBIE CENTER. I was offered an upgrade more than a month ago, and they repeatedly neglected sending my lease (I called over 10 times). Each time I called, they said they would send it by the end of the day. After more than a month, they said that I no longer qualified because the promotion period was over? Except I applied for the promotion the day after it was offered, and it was PURE NEGLIGENCE on Dobie’s part that I was unable to sign the correct, updated lease. And when I called one final time, not only was the leasing agent too scared to speak to me (she’s the one who assured me I would get the deal in the first place and was in charge of sending me the updated lease), the property manager was completely unyielding in her defense of Dobie’s DISORGANIZATION and complete INATTENTIVENESS. I’ve lived here for 2 years, and am returning for my 3^rd, and even though they can easily give me what they rightfully owe me, they refuse. Furthermore, I know many people who were offered gift cards, iPads, and other forms of incentive for signing their leases early, but never received them. This is because Dobie commonly employs FALSE ADVERTISING to gain publicity. I repeat, do NOT live at Dobie Center if you respect yourself. They do NOT uphold their words and only offer EMPTY promises of reward.

I’ve called Dobie my home for the past three years now, and I have loved every minute of it. I honestly believe that Dobie will give UT students the best dorm experience out of any other student housing facility in Austin, simply because of the emphasis Dobie puts on resident life. Dobie offers many ways for students to get involved with the dorm, UT, and the city of Austin on a whole. I have had many fun and rewarding experiences in college, and I owe many of these experiences to Dobie. Being apart of the resident life here has helped me make my best friends. I honestly feel as if I am home, away from home. I believe that the minor complaints that I have read from some posts on this site do not outweigh the social benefits that Dobie provides. People will forget that their AC was not working one night or that maybe they had to wait 10 minutes for and elevator once, but they will always remember the relationships that they made and the experiences they had at dorm functions. At least this is my opinion.

THIS IS NOT A SAFE PLACE TO STAY! My niece (age 12) and her friend (age 11) stayed at the Dobie for two weeks this summer while attending a UT camp. At 9:30 PM they encountered an adult man coming out of their room. He ended up stealing money. Thank goodness nothing else happened. Management was not helpful and was extremely defensive. Security cameras showed he was in the building for over two hours going from floor to floor. This was completely unacceptable and should have never happened. Management admitted that staff had not received required trainings, that visitors where not stopped by the front desk staff to show ID, sign in and demonstrate a purpose for being in the building. Incompetence is unacceptable when it comes to the personal safety of children and young adults.

I don’t feel like the reviews here are fair at all. For one, Dobie is way better than on-​campus, so for freshmen that miss home, yeah it’s going to be very different. There’s not mommy to cook for you and it is a cafeteria. And if something is broken you have to take the initiative to get it fixed by contacting maintenance. shocker.
Aside from that, I lived at dobie and loved it. The community is super, way friendlier than on-​campus. My first year in the dorms (Kinsolving), I met nobody because everyone in the cafeteria was hesitant to invite you to sit with them (and pretty rude besides). And my friends at Jester said that while you did meet people, the conversations were all small talk and never got anywhere.
Well at Dobie, I made a solid group of friends. It’s just the perfect size to meet people both on your floor and in the general crowd that lived there. The food wasn’t bad at all, and I was prepared for the worst based on reviews. And maintenance actually fixed stuff! The main thing is you should email them directly or go to the front desk and they’ll put in an urgent request.
So yeah. Dobie is cool. I don’t get why people have so much negativity. It’s a beautiful view and they just redid like every floor. I’m gonna live there again because I liked it so much.

If I could give negative stars, I would. The leasing office is a nightmare – full of incompetent staff who give you a different story every time you speak to them. After my daughter accepted at UT and signed a lease at Dobie, she found out she was accepted into the school of her dreams (NYU). Not a big deal to rescind her UT acceptance. But no matter how many times I talked to the leasing office, they would NOT let us out of the lease. So I payed $ 940 a month for an empty room. I was put on a wait list for a fee of $ 500 if someone took the room, outrageous. The irony is that we kept getting correspondence as if my daughter was living there! And one month when I payed the rent late, I got an email stating that they would stop her meal card and start eviction procedures. SHE NEVER LIVED THERE!!! It’s hard to believe, at a school the size of UT, that a freshman residence hall cannot fill up. I see from the other reviews that there are reasons for that.

Don’t live at Dobie or let your student live at Dobie. No AC, no maintenance and it’s very difficult to get problems resolved or deal with management. There are much nicer options for living near UT campus. Check other sites for reviews — they are consistently negative on Dobie.
