Don Dario’s

The food i had was okay but that’s not why I am taking time top do this. I have left a total of one other Unilocal review because typically bad food and or service will run its course and a restaurant will either Chang for better or go out of business. I am leaving this review because they stole from me.
The bartender charged me at my first visit. I left my card there to keep it open. I didn’t get any more drinks. When i closed my tab, i got charged again for the same amount.
I called them to explain what happened and Don insinuated i was a liar and that i ordered more drinks. After a short exchange of words (not yet irate) he became reasonable and said i can have my money back. The issue is i have to come get it! It was on credit so i don’tunderstand why he couldn’t reverse the charge. I was there on special occasion and its a long distance from where i live. 45 minute drive. There is no way I’m doing 1.5 hours to get back 16.41 because it would cost more for the trip.
Gratz Don, you stuck it to a first time patron and got away with it.
Get a system that let’s you give back a card and only charges when a tab closes. Then the card can’t be swiped again.

The restaurant was a bit dirty so was the restroom, I won’t go back.

One of the worst Mexican places in Austin. Only stopped here because it was close to the event we had to run back to. And run we did! Food was bland, chips tasted like they were in storage for years. Don’t bother.

First time eating here for dinner. The place is nice enough atmosphere. The house margarita was good and happy hour prices were nice. The salsa and chips were good. I had a plate with a crispy taco, cheers enchilada, and half a chili rellano. The taco fell apart but was decent tasting. The enchilada was good. Liked the sauce very much. The chili rellano was not that good. Not sure what the chili was wrapped up in but I was not a fan. Our waiter was attentive and we were early diners but there was a waitress there who had tables and she brought their orders out on time it seemed but she had a friend there sitting in a booth and she kept going back to sit with her. It was a little off putting that and her cell phone use. I was glad she was not waiting on us. I would have given another star had it not been for her. Maybe she was family or the owners girlfriend but when I waited tables that was firing behavior.

I had a fantasy in my head that Don Dario’s would be my go-​to place for all good food that is Mexican, but alas, it’s not meant to be.
I went twice, which I try to do to be fair before posting a Unilocal review. I had the same server both times, Rogelio, and he was fantastic!
My first visit, I had a relleno, and it was okay, but the plate was swimming in that godawful pasty cheese whiz. (Can someone tell me what is «Mexican» about that goop? «Chile con queso,» seriously??)
The second time, I ordered a combo dish that included a beef taco, a tamale, and an enchilada. The taco had really no flavor, and the tamale and enchilada were both so small, maybe three bites each and they were gone.
And finally, this is absolutely hands-​down the most dirty restaurant I have ever stepped into. Dirty walls, layers of dirty upon dirty, and the booth seats are torn and taped. The tape is wearing off, and when I got up, the back of the legs of my jeans were sticky from the worn tape I sat on.
The lack of cleanliness coupled with the meager and meh food means I won’t be back. Not even with the great service Rogelio gave me.

Hey, ever think to yourself, Man, this place is a piece of shit restaurant and I should tell the entire world about it? That’s how I feel about this place.
Couple of weeks ago, we had a small event at this place and had some great breakfast tacos. I thought to myself, wow, this place is better than I thought it would be. Would totally be willing to come back and get something next time.
That next time was today: I went to order four, count em, FOUR breakfast tacos. Not 40. Not 400. Not even 10. After I ordered, I texted my wife. Time stamp was 10:20 a.m. on a Saturday morning.
And I began to wait. Did a little book of Face, read an article on the Huffington post. Time check: 10:30. Ok, it’s Saturday morning, I get it. Busy morning rush.
Download a book to my phone to continue reading something from earlier. Read a few pages. Damn, I am getting hungry and annoyed. Not yet pissed off. Time check: 10:40
10:43 I hear chatter about my name and ticket. Girl working the front say something about tickets not printing. Manager rushes away. NOW, I am getting pissed. I inquire about my order; girl says it’s coming right now…
Maybe time is just getting slower because I am hungry… you know… like the scene from the Sopranos when Vito the handyman is waiting for his lunch break?
Nope. Right now means 12 minutes later. 12 minutes as I consider going to Home Depot, getting some lawn shears, and committing seppuku rather than wait any longer… not just hungry now. I am HANGRY. REALLY EFFFING HANGRY
10:55: Manager comes out with my tacos. No apologies. No explanation of why it took so long until I explicitly begin asking questions. No offer to refund my money, or let us know the next time you are here, or hey, we are so sorry. Instead, how about a free beverage?
How about I go on Unilocal and let the world know how much of a piece of crap your restaurant is… and the food is pretty mediocre.

They have done it again. I would would post a pucture of my food but its all gone. My waitress (ANETTE)is awesome and she remembers me from the other day.

Worst service ever. Took 45 min for tacos. Tacos were cold and tortillas were hard. Other party were waiting for pancakes, finally came out pancakes were extremely cold. All in all never coming back. Don’t waste your time … Too bad I couldn’t give a no star…

This place is no longer family oriented. Someone was murdered in the parking lot for goodness sakes! It’s a bunch of drunks, and the location has always sucked. But for reals their food is not worth to die for!

No me gusto el servicio !! El manager muy prepotente y las meseras muy mal servicio ! No se si sea racismo o no tubimos suerte??? Pero las personas que estaban aún lado de nosotros hasta el manager fue a preguntarles como estaba la comida y a nosotros ni un hola de bienvenida nos dieron !! Ah y traíamos para pagar

On my 5^th year anniversary coming here. Keep it up darios!

The food is really great. Love to get to go orders. But that can be very difficult. I always say I would like the CHEESE enchilada dinner. And then they proceed with, «do you want cheese, chicken, or beef.» Seriously, I just said cheese. Everytime. They will tell you 20 mins, and I give them 30 and I still have to wait for it.

Homemade tortillas are amazing! I recommend just eating tacos ala carte, I did not enjoy the cheese enchiladas. Service is only good when the restaurant is very slow.

Old school tex-​mex with lots of cheese, homemade tortillas, and calories. and the owner is always there with a smile and a handshake. Love to drop in for a cold beer and some nachos anytime I run over to Home Depot.

Recently moved to the area. Been wanting to check out Don Dario’s since we moved. My wife must have Mexican once a week or else. We are fortunate to have the authentic haunt right around the corner. The Carnitas were excellent and my wife enjoyed her beef and chicken tacos. Service was great. Very considerate waitstaff. We left a shirt behind and was able to retrieve it the next day. We will definately be going back.
Music was loud, but appropriate for a Saturday night. Next time we go with friends to catch up we will be sure to sit inside. It looks like they have a nice private room off the dinning area for private parties. Definately something we will consider for an event.

This place is awesome all around; drinks, food, customer service.
Every time we go it’s on point. Priced right.

Have to show love to my fav spot, great all around. This place won’t disappoint.

Food was classic tex-​mex, and I mean that in a GOOD way!
Everything was tasty: salsa, cheese enchiladas, crispy tacos, tamales, rice, beans and guacamole — all great! And the sauce on the red enchiladas was very good.
Our server was VERY on the ball! Very fast, friendly and efficient.
This was our first visit, but we’ll be back. We live in San Antonio, but visit austin frequently.

They have goat, and good service.
Not sure what else to say. Go here.
The location might seem odd, but the food drinks and service have been among the best I’ve had in all of Austin. That counts for a lot in my book.

Update. On the plus side, they made a custom margarita for me (much appreciated). Good chips, tortillas, main entrees. Good service, food came out fast and hot. On the other hand, beans and rice were meh. Not bad, just nothing to write home about. Still a good choice for texmex.

Service was great. Food was texmex. Not outstanding but it’s not my first dinner there either. Wife wanted to try it so we went. She’s mexican bit rarely wants mexican food. She’s more into Asian and American. So when she wants mexican I’m all over the idea. Prices are slightly above average for the mediocre flavors. Alcohol prices are average as well. This review is about memorable as my dinner there.
Cleanliness is superb.
Service top marks.
Food is texmex.
