Doug Jackman, OD

Dr. Jackman has been my doctor for several years. Recently I experienced an eye emergency. He was kind enough to meet me at his office before the practice opened.
I am so appreciative. I feel lucky to be blessed with such a caring doctor. I have always had such positive experiences with both he and his staff. Thank you!

I have been a patient of Dr. Jackman for many years. Dr. Jackman and all the associates at this location have always been very professional with prompt and courteous customer service. Also, their services and prescription contacts I have purchased through this organization are very reasonably priced.
I liked the text message reminders which help keep me on track with my exams.

Some of the older reviews make note of poor customer service at this location; I could not disagree more. Aside from Dr. Jackman, I interacted directly with four of his employees and every one of them welcomed me as a new customer, and were pleasant and professional. It was almost unbelievable how inviting everyone was!
As for my appointment, I was seen on time and was in-​and-​out in 30 minutes. Dr. Jackman was efficient but friendly. My brand of contacts has been discontinued, and he gave me two trial pairs (that’s two months’ worth for free!) plus solution and a case. It’s been a few years since my last eye exam, but I plan to return here annually from now on. Excellent!

I’m sure this group is fine as far as eye care goes but their staff needs some work as far as customer service is concerned. The man I interacted with was quite rude so I walked right out.
Not sure what the problem was but I will not be coming back to this place.

I have been a patient of Dr. Jackman for 10 years now. I started seeing him when I was a student at UT, shortly after I graduated I was strapped for cash and he was so very kind and gave me a free box of contacts. I will never forget that kindness.

I highly recommend Dr. Jackman (and his staff). Their service is always prompt and professional. On top of that, I find that I often book last minute (ie when I realize I’ve run out of contacts), and they are always accommodating about trying to get an appointment for me as quickly as possible. Their technology is quick, efficient, and up-​to-​date. Highly recommended.

I had a perfectly pleasant optometrist experience with Jackman & Associates… three years ago. Since then, I’ve moved away from Austin (sniff), and found another optometrist. I’ve quit Jackman & Associates, but it seems that they can’t quit me.
Since I visited, I’ve gotten a barrage of emails announcing specials, celebrating holidays, my birthday, etc. I’ve probably unsubscribed (or rather, «unsubscribed») from their email blasts half a dozen times, but nothing seems to work. If you’re looking for an eye doctor that will spam you constantly, then this is your place. Otherwise, keep on cruising.

I came to Dr. Jackman because of the great reviews. Unfortunately I did not share the great experience that others did. I have a buildup on my sclera, known as Pterygium, caused by UV damage — He not only could not see the buildup that I was talking about, he also had never heard of the term. He said that it was «allergies.» I also asked Dr. Jackman about the dark spot in my peripheral vision which has concerned me for quite some time. Dr. Jackman said «Its probably allergies.» No care to do a full exam. He did not dilate my eyes — nothing. Just had me read off the letters on the screen. We were unable to come to a setting at which the letters were no longer blurry, yet he wrote out a script for my glasses and sent me on my way. Super, Super disappointing. Even with my new glasses, I experience eye strain. Tired of wasting my time and money on Doctors who do not care to take time with their patients.

I’ve had my annual eye checkup here for the last 3 years.
Each visit I’ve had to ask whether or not something they were trying to peddle was covered by my insurance, otherwise, they would just tack on extra items (pair of contacts (not requested), eye contact fitting, …).
Nice in person, shady on the invoice.

I recently had an eye exam with Dr. Huser. She was extremely professional and took the time to explain each test and the corresponding results. She was both patient and friendly and I look forward to seeing her again. Also, the optician, Joe, was great as well and helped me maximize my insurance coverage. I even had some non-​prescription sunglasses that he was able to replace the lenses the same day. The waiting room is comfortable with help yourself coffee/​water. Great experience!

I think this is arguably one of the best experiences I have ever had at an all-​services optical practice.

pages for this business because either one they see, they should know how fine a job they’re doing.
I came by here because of the initial good reviews and because it was conveniently located minutes from my workplace. The first time I came here was for an eye exam in October 2014, which was a thorough and good experience provided by James Dugas himself. Or it may have been Jackman or Miller, I don’t remember but he was professional. I learned things about the eye and examination of the eye I had not known before, because the eye doctor was so patient to answer my questions. My insurance provided me a free pair of glasses. Joseph thoroughly explained everything about my vision insurance. The level of customer service provided on my first visit was enough to make me return a few months later. The second time I came was March 2015, to buy another pair of glasses to finish up some leftover funds in my flex spending account. Joseph explained everything to me about my insurance and helped me distinguish my preferences between the look and feel of two different brands of frames. He was instrumental in helping me decide which ones to get and definitely worked with me and my insurance company to get the absolute best deal I could get that particular time. He assured me they would be ready by April 2.
The third time I came was just today, April 7, when I was informed that the glasses I had bought in March were ready for pickup. At first I thought they had taken long enough, since they were not initially ready by April 2. I didn’t worry about this, however, because when products have to be made at another site, delivery times can vary no matter what is estimated. The key thing was they were ready before April 8, which was the latest I was assured they’d be delivered.
Tony took care of me this time, only because Joseph was providing great customer care to another deserving wearer of glasses or contacts. Tony provided another level of customer service that I was not expecting but sure did appreciate. My glasses were presented to me on a black velvet tray, laid out from its carrying case with its microfiber cloth and with a bag of goodies done up like a gift bag. See my two photos I put with my review on the MD Jackman, OD Unilocal page, and you will see that Tony, or anyone else for that matter, will ensure you receive your eyeglasses in an utmost professional manner, no matter if the brands are Oakley’s, Ray-​Ban, whatever your preference, they are delivered with more than just a simple «Here’s your glasses, have a great day and come back and see us.» There is nothing wrong with making small talk with your customers especially when you demonstrate you understand their prescription. I was informed that any time I need adjustments made to any pair of glasses I have received at James Dugas, OD, that I could return any time, even to have free refills on lens cleaning solution.
I don’t know how anyone can top that level of excellent customer service. I am always happy to meet people who are in performance of their jobs and you can see they are passionate about what they do because they show it to you in the level of service they provide you. So if you need glasses, or contacts, or an eye exam, come on by MD Jackman, OD. Based on my experience you will receive great attention to detail, a no-​rush type of service that makes you feel like you have just left the house of a good friend.

I found Dr. Jackman’s office by chance when I was looking for the closest optometrist offices to my apartment, and I was utterly amazed at how friendly and effective the staff was. Although I may not be a typical case, I called this morning and was able to come in a couple of hours later for my eye exam. Even though I was a new patient and got there a little bit late, I honestly expected to wait for a while. I waited for only 10 minutes; one of the staff members saw me eyeing the Keurig machine and insisted on making me some green tea while I waited.
I actually didn’t see Dr. Jackman but Dr. Hooser (spelling? I looked on their website but she wasn’t listed), a young but knowledgeable optometrist who patiently answered all of my questions about how I can address contact itchiness and blurriness and about possibly getting LASIK in the near-​future. She saw that my prescription jumped quite a bit, so she actually gave me the equivalent of a dilation (with their new technology, they actually just take a really close-​up picture of your eyes) for FREE.
They also matched the price of a one-year’s supply of contacts that I found online.
In conclusion: super friendly, quick but effective, and flexible! I will absolutely go back even if I eventually move out of the area.

I started going to Dr. J several years ago because he was located near my former workplace. I no longer work in the area but still go out of my way to see him because I’ve never had a bad experience there. They’ve always been able to accommodate my schedule despite my often last minute requests, and Jan at the front desk always has a smile and positive attitude. I continue to recognize faces… which just means happy folks right?
I like that it’s a local practice, that Dr. J is a family man… and…
Best of all… I can appreciate that after I bring up the possibility of some kind of self-​diagnosed ocular cancer (more than once), he just looks at me with a dry look, and I know I’m being ridiculous again… then he confirms that I in fact DO NOT have «ocular cancer.»
Comforted, I go along my merry way smiling with a bag full of samples.

Seriously, the best experience by far that I have ever had at an optometrist. I wasn’t rushed, I was given very detailed explanations about my eye health, like the best of primary care providers would. I learned things about my prescription, and about general eye health that I didn’t know were important. And all for very very reasonable prices.

Dr. Jackman has been taking care of my eyes, and now my husband’s and kids’, for years. He is that best possible combination of old school, chair-​side manner and high tech gadgetry. No more «puff» to test the pressure of your eye! And he can take a digital image of your retina that is far more complete and detailed than you could get through dilation, with the ability to compare last year’s image to this one’s.
I like that he never seems hurried. You’d think you were the only patient he was seeing that day, although his practice is always bustling. Good and unique selection of frames. Important for those who want to make a transitory statement about their relationship to cool.
His staff is top notch too. Check in is a breeze. And they really know their way around an insurance plan. Willing to take the time to explain and calculate various options so that you get the most for your money.
The other thing I love is that he is generous with allowing you to try different options in contacts. Having astigmatism and presbyopia, I’ve struggled to find contacts that didn’t make me feel dizzy or needing reading glasses. (Seriously, wearing contacts AND glasses?) However, thanks to the surge of aging baby boomers, there always seems to be innovations in contacts. And Dr. Jackson always has the latest. In fact, he’s ordered me a new pair to try before I buy.

I’ve been coming to see Dr. J for over 10 years and have never had anything but a positive experience. As many of the reviews have stated he is a good guy, nice, professional and most of all he takes his time and is very thorough. I appreciate him taking the time to make sure my prescription is perfect before I leave and never makes me feel like he is rushing to the next appointment. I have only used him for contact lenses so can’t speak to the glasses although he seems to have a nice selection. I like his location and facility. I also like that he will swap out contacts if a prescription changes. My son has daily wear contacts and seems his prescription changes every year. If you buy through Dr. J he’ll let you trade in unopened boxes which is great and much appreciated. If you’ve had trouble getting that prescription just right you need to check him out.

I’ve been to Dr. Jackman for yearly eye exams and for unexpected vision problems. He has worked me in on busy Saturdays & has always been through and courteous.
I’d definitely recommend him!

First and foremost, Dr. Jackman’s name makes it seem like he has a doctorate in medicine when he actually has a doctorate in optometry. This just means that he’s not a physician and did not attend medical school. So if you’re looking for an ophthalmologist, this is an optometrist facility.
I made an appointment a few days in advance and had absolutely no trouble during the eye checkup process. It’s frustrating that there is a separate fee for the fitting of contact lenses beyond the basic prescription that the UT Superior Vision doesn’t cover. Dr. Jackman was quick and effective at doing his job and I was in/​out in less than thirty minutes. He gave me two pairs of contact lenses to try (free of charge but probably built into that fee for the fitting) so I could test them before ordering a yearlong supply.
