Eddie V’s Prime Seafood

The Happy Hour menu seriously makes you happy in all types of ways. Maybe the alcohol had a little part in it, but still, you cannot beat the HH prices. $ 1 Oysters??? My goooodnessss.
My boyfriend and I came for our anniversary. The plan was to come eat some appetizers during happy hour and then order an entrée after, but everything changed once we had our first oyster. We literally ate 36 oysters by ourselves. We ordered one dozen and once we realized how fresh and delicious they were, we couldn’t stop ourselves.
We also ordered their calamari plate which was probably made to feed like 6 people (not exaggerating). It was huge! They don’t play with their portions, ha. This was also very appetizing and had an Asian zing to it.
I would say skip out on the shrimp they had on the HH menu, not worth.
Since we came on our anniversary, Eddie V’s was so kind enough to offer a complimentary dessert. We ordered the Bananas Foster, and do yourself a favor… ORDER IT! It was so mind-​blowing delectable my mouth is watering right now.
Overall, you can count on me coming back during HH for some
oysters!

Great ambience and good food. The service was excellent. However, despite ordering crab cake, calamari, the filet, crab fried rice, truffle Mac and cheese, and Brussel sprouts, none of these items were stellar enough to make me want to come back (I’d rather have each of these items from another restaurant).

We got there pretty late, maybe 10 something PM and they had a limited menu. That did not matter because my corn chowder and tuna tartar were amazing! Service was great and the food was excellent. We were all happy with our meals and returning is definitely a must!

I was so excited to finally check this restaurant out, but was left in such disappointment. The ribeye and lobster tail were bland and the lobster was cold. The brussel sprouts weren’t anything to write home about either. The only thing I can say I liked was the twice baked potatoes. I expected much more out of a high end steak house– especially with their specialty being steak and charging the prices they do.

Stopped here on a trip across the country. Not only was this the best meal of the 3 week trip — I think I’m ready to make it the best meal/​dining experience I’ve ever had.
Im always so hesitant to leave reviews that are flawless because it makes me sound too emotional to be fair. That being said, I GUESS if I «had» to say something not glaringly positive about this place it would be that it isn’t particularly «Texas», i.e. if you want «local fare» or to try something you can only get in Austin, than this is not that place. Also, this fabulous meal was NOT cheap, but, you get what you pay for — and we more than got what we paid for.
SO: not indigenous and not cheap.(neither a true negative IMO) that’s all I got for ya.
If you want your mouth to do somersaults, invest the time and money in this establishment…
The dragonberry mojitos are killer. KILL. ER. I don’t care for rum and took a chance on these per our waiters suggestion. Home run.

I went to Eddie V’s after a day of drinking at the surrounding bars. I was dressed as my friends described as «a summer camp counselor,» yet they seated us and took us very seriously. The bartender kindly charged my dead iPhone without judgement. Our waiter was really nice and accommodating to us and the food was delicious. I tried a few different dishes and they were all made perfectly.
The sole was my favorite dish, as it was cooked perfectly and had a tasteful amount of breading. My crab and shrimp salad was tasty, however, I will probably stick to the BLT iceberg next time. I enjoyed my time at Eddie V’s and am excited to return!

In all the years Eddie V’s has been in Austin, last night was the first night to eat there.
Outstanding customer service!
Their Maryland crabcake appetizer is like no crab cake I have every eaten. All crab and no cake. Incredibly moist and tasty with the perfect sauce. My GF had six Atlantic oysters with a variety of sauces. She was very impressed with them and the condiments.
For an entrée, I had the Pacific Ahi Tuna with baby bok choi in a sweet/​sour sauce. The tuna was very lightly breaded but still perfect in the middle. Every morsel was perfect. The sauce side was a wasabi oil. Had just enough wasabi to enhance the taste of the tuna without overwhelming.
Desert — The chocolate cake with liquid Godiva chocolate in the center served with vanilla bean ice cream. One of the most decadent desserts I have ever eaten.
Eddie V’s is a really great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Review specifically of Mother’s Day brunch.
Kudos to the special brunch menu author, who makes everything sound wonderful, when in fact you’re about to do a little hit and miss Russian roulette.
Get ‘em excited with «fresh house baked warm cinnamon rolls to share with maple pecan glaze», but serve ‘em undercooked chewy bland barely sweet little rolls. It’s as disappointed as I’ve ever been when served cinnamon rolls.
Smoked salmon starter was really nice, smoked salmon very good, prettily presented herb cream cheese, really wish the whole of brunch was up to this level.
Steak and eggs — well, the «redeye gravy» sounded ok, but was really overwhelmingly oniony and not like any red eye gravy I’ve ever seen. Destroyed what otherwise could still have been a pretty nice brunch entrée. The filet was a nice piece of meat and cooked correctly to order, but flavor killed by the «gravy». Potatoes a bit undercooked, and the «sunnyside-​up eggs» was actually a single (one) over easy egg on top of the filet. Despite its high perch, the egg still drowned in the one note onion flavor of the plate. So disappointing.
I know that was not the only main dish brunch issue, because when the wife asked waitress whether to go for one of the other brunch special dishes or something from the regular menu, she quickly steered her to the regular menu.
Panna cotta to finish was simple and pleasant, and very appropriate for a brunch dessert course.
I’m really tempted to 2 star, because I would now avoid Eddie V’s for any brunch event, but the place is beautiful, it does make you feel like you are having a special occasion, the service is excellent, and a couple of the dishes were well done. So 3 star but overall quite disappointed.

I love a fancy date night and even though the prices are high here I feel that it is worth it. We came during SXSW hoping that we could get a break from all of the tourists and we achieved that. They do offer valet and it’s your best bet because parking around here is awful. You will have the choice of sitting in the bar/​lounge area or the dining room. I believe they also have a private dining area for events or special celebrations. We initially chose to sit in the bar which is dimly lit by candles and had live music but, we quickly changed our minds when we realized that we couldn’t hear each other and didn’t want to shout the entire time. The dining room is large and the seating at the tables were more comfortable than the lounge area.
We started with a bottle champagne and ordered half a dozen east coast oysters, a shrimp cocktail and a wedge salad split between us. The oysters were fresh and chilled to the perfect temperature but, I have had better oysters at other places around Austin. The shrimp cocktail was one of my favorite things; the shrimp were large and the fresh horseradish and that white creamy sauce were addicting. Be careful though and use the horseradish sparingly because it is hot. I wish the wedge salads would have had chopped bacon on it instead of pieces just laying over the top. The dressing was delicious and the portion size was split onto two plates for us and is easily shareable.
I had the filet oscar style served over asaparagus and he had the filet and lobster tail. The steaks were cooked to the temperature that we ordered. The filets were high quality and you can taste where the price comes from. The oscar was a large portion size of crab and worth adding to the top of the steak and the asparagus was well seasoned. He said the lobster was sweet, fresh and cooked to the perfect balance of soft and not overdone. The drawn butter was done right and I always appreciate when the lemon has a net over it to catch the pulp and the seeds.
For dessert we had the butterscotch panna cotta and the crème brûlée. I really enjoyed the crème brûlée and the fresh berries on top of it. The panna cotta didn’t wow me at all but, he enjoyed it. The price tag was almost $ 400.00 with the tip but, so worth it. After two and a half hours of eating to our hearts content and washing it down with champagne we finally left.

Our server, Jeff, made our dining experience all the more extraordinary with his knowledge and passion for the exquisite food and his cheerful and fun personality.
The 32oz tomahawk ribeye was incomparable (and we’ve dined at some of the finest restaurants in the world).
At our table we were also served a plate of oysters, lobster, crab fried rice, and a blue cheese crusted fillet. All of which was cooked to absolute perfection, and plated with incredible attention to detail.
For dessert, Jeff recommended the flaming bananas Foster which was the perfect complement to our amazing dinner.

What a great place! We toddled in on our way to Antone’s to get some grub an seriously thew down on some amazing food. It was incredibly packed on a Sunday night but the bartender was more than happy to accomodate my crazy crew. Here is the MiaOnTheGo lowdown:

At SXSW and was trying to get into a movie première but the line was too long. So. I headed back to the Westin thinking I would just eat at the bar. Nope, it was packed, so that option was out. I was exhausted, so what other options do I have in the area? Right across the street was Eddie V’s…it looked old school, but I’m good if they have food.
I walked into a dark steakhouse… you know the kind… wood paneling, tuxedos… yep, that’s it. It, too, was packed, so after spotting one lone seat at the bar, I told the hostess I was heading that way if I could order food. No problem, she said.
Was in between two lovely couple, which could have really sucked, but was fortunate to be by a very nice couple who were extremely friendly and welcoming.
For dinner I ordered a small filet (medium rare) and asparagus. The filet was perfect. The asparagus had a poached egg and hollandaise… awesome! I ate every bite and even shared with my lovely bar neighbors.
To be honest, the atmosphere isn’t my thing, but my bar neighbors and the food made it an awesome experience. Way to represent Austin!

Definitely one of the $$$$ places I’ve been to where I feel like it was actually worth it. Median rare steak (rare +) was on point! Wine was perfectly served for my fiancé and I. I can tell when she really enjoyed her food.
Like every other top-​notch restaurant, place gets really crowded on weekends, but the amazing service upon sitting down made me feel like I was still able to have a good intimate time. Waiter was very knowledgeable with steak and wine. He was also very attentive on how long something would take to prepare, from the food to the dessert.

The happy hour and dessert are out of this world good.
The boisterous feel of the bar, the super friendly staff, the counter service that you can usually find a spot at if you work really hard and make friends with the right people, the live music that they have so many nights, the cozy seating if you get really lucky, and the BANANA’S FOSTER (otherwise known as probably my favorite austin dessert.)
Any excuse I have to go here, I will. And I haven’t even tried the dinner menu yet…

This was my first visit to Eddie V’s in downtown Austin. I usually go to the Arboretum location due to its proximity to my work and home, but we decided to give this location a try since we heard great things about it. We weren’t disappointed.
Service: We were here for a special occasion and they made sure that we were taken care of. The service staff was attentive but not intrusive. They kept their distance to give us room to talk, but also ensured everything was to order. Excellent balance of service and space — something that is sometimes lost at other high end restaurants where the staff tend to over-​attend or hover.
Food: We ordered our go-to’s for Eddie V’s — the Chilean Sea Bass and a Strip Pittsburgh medium rare with crab fried rice and broccolini for the sides. Both main dishes were prepared perfectly. The sea bass was melt-​in-​your mouth tender and perfectly seasoned. The strip was a medium rare with just the right amount of char. We didn’t feel like drinking too much, so we shared a half size bottle of Stag’s Leap Artemis before dinner. However, the great food called for another order of the half-​sized bottle of Artemis.
If I’m in the mood for Eddie V’s, I will now be heading downtown rather than the Arboretum.

We stopped in for a dinner during a conference and needless to say, the place was PACKED so to me, that’s a good start. We were seated in a crowded room and I, unfortunately, was literally stuffed into a corner and I was competing with a window drape. Not very comfortable but at least the drapes were soft…
I chose to start with a red wine and we also started with some Asian style teriyaki dumplings and the crab cake. The dumplings were nothing too special but the crab cake was killer! It was real crab, perfectly seared on one side with plenty of butter and came with a tarter sauce which my Michigan roots appreciated. Next came the entrée which I had the filet steak and while I asked for it medium rare, it was more towards medium and a little too charred on the outside. It cut well and was delicious nonetheless but a little tougher than I prefer. I had it with the side of asparagus and scalloped potatoes which we good, but nothing outstanding and Earth shattering.
The night ended with a high note when we had the dark chocolate toffee s’more type concoction which was a perfect blend of deep rich, dense chocolate cake and a delicate marshmallow placed on top. D-​vine.
Overall it was OK. I definitely wouldn’t go back, and maybe it was my uncomfortable seat placement or that my steak was overcooked or that service seemed to take forever and we were there much later than expected.

When the service is so good you just have to talk about it! Actually it wasn’t good it was great. Thank you Brandon and Brittany W for the outstanding service tonight. Tops off to the chef and food runners as well! The food was perfection. You must have the lobster and beef tartare. I will most certainly be back very soon.

Despite having been sat in the dining room when we told the host we were there for happy hour and us having to get up and move to the bar area, the oysters were amazing!!! The lighting was too dim but it was a nice touch to the atmosphere. The service was pretty darn good except where I was given cold water three times throughout the night. I only drink room temperature water because anything too cold hurts my stomach. 3 times after letting our server know, I had ice cold water in my glass. Anyhow, the tables were not big enough to even have our oyster platter and appetizer on so I had to put the tartare on a champagne flute storing shelf behind our table. It was unpleasant when the waiter kept trying to put drinks and plates on the table that were hanging off the edge.
We will definitely be back to have some more oysters, but we will request a bigger table next time.

Came 20 minutes ago for a reservation at 8:30 made by the hotel staff at the Westin across the street. If a mix up happened and the restaurant didn’t get the reservation? Totally fine. But the savagely rude hostess (the older one. Very old) was beyond disrespectful and could not have helped us less. Disappointed, offended, and waiting at the bar now (at least the service is consistently poor!) for some hopefully worth-​it seafood.

We went to Eddie V’s with a group of 8 of us. The staff was very pushy and overall unpleasant as if we were a burden to them. They couldn’t stand to wait while we asked about different spirits so they literally just walked away.
Now onto the food… I have had way way better and when I say better I am talking like Outback is better or Texas Roadhouse is better. And when you pay $ 150 for two of you, you expect something to at least be good. I ordered the filet medallions and asked for them medium, they were charcoaled on the outside while the inside was still bleeding (lovely I know). The asparagus probably was cooked a minute or two and was just overall bland. On top of the filet being charcoaled, it just didnt have any good flavor and the texture was horrid. The best part of the meal was the appetizer and they were the pork and shrimp gyoza. My husband ordered the chicken and he didn’t have any rave reviews about it either. He also tried my steak and didn’t want more than a bite of it which is very rare.
I honestly have never left a negative review before but this place was over priced, unfriendly, loud, and not any good. Hopefully this helps a few people out when making their decision on the next fine dining establishment they visit.

The crab cake appetizer is really good, but a bit too rich when I finished the whole thing. The sea bass was really tender and fresh!

Love this place! Went during happy hour and got the lobster bisque. Totally to die for! Oysters are not bad and great price during happy hour. Calamari was very tasty too! The atmosphere was nice, good service, and nice looking inside.

I’ve had the pleasure of dining at eddie v’s on several occasions and the all have been great. My most recent visit was not quite up to par as all of my others. Typically, I tend to stick with the east coast raw oysters, lobster bisque (it’s excellent) and either the sea bass or fresh king crab (if you’re lucky enough to go during the two weeks of open season). Last night I chose the scallops. I can’t say they were bad but they just didn’t have the amazing flavor that the other dishes always seem to have. Also, they were relatively small-​only about the size of a quarter. Overall, it’s a fantastic place to eat but I’d shy away from the scallops and stick with their steaks or fish. One other suggestion/​complaint: Why don’t they have bread pudding for dessert???

I love Eddie V’s, especially their happy hour! I went there the other day for my birthday with a few friends, and Alex, Michael, and Brandon provided outstanding service in the lounge area. I highly recommend their lobster tartare (technically it’s the steak/​lobster tartare, but I just double-​up on the lobster). Great food, service, and atmosphere!

Hmmmm. I would give my experience at Eddie V’s 3 stars and while there were highlights, there were a few missteps as well. The good: We made reservations for our wedding anniversary on Opentable and were delighted to arrive to a cute, rose-​covered table with a «Happy Anniversary» card on it.
However, I was shocked at how loud it was. Lots of loud business dinners, it seemed. It was definitely more boisterous than I expected for a Monday evening. In general, our service was friendly, but too busy. It was difficult for my husband to have a conversation for more than a couple of minutes without another person stopping at the table to fill up ½ filled water glasses or pre-​bus the table.
We were granted a free dessert at the end of the meal to commemorate our anniversary, which was a nice touch. Almost all of the desserts had some kind of alcohol in them and being pregnant, that really limited our options. We decided on one of the alcoholic ones and asked that it was prepared without the alcohol (our server was sweet about it). However, when a different food runner brought out our dish, it definitely had the alcohol in it. I just ate around it and since it was complementary, I did not complain.
I would say that overall the food was good, but overpriced for what it is. I ended up having a vegetable dish and half of the veggies on the plate were bland and clunky. Not great for a $ 20 dish of just vegetables and nothing else. We ordered the au gratin potatoes to share and only ate less than half (we were too full) and left the rest to be boxed up. However, when I went to eat them for lunch the next day, I discovered that only my vegetables had been boxed up and not the potatoes. Where did they go? I have my suspicions, but nonetheless… sad trombone.
Overall, I don’t think that we’ll be back. While the food is good, I don’t think that the experience matched what we paid.

So it was my husband and my first anniversary and he made reservations for us at Eddie V’s. Our server was Yolanda and she and the food were just perfect! They had even sprinkled red rose petals on our table with a congratulatory card. My husband said the lobster bisque was the best he’s ever had. The most amazing part of the dinner was a banana dessert that Yolanda covered with a stream of blazing 151! Eddie V’s made our first anniversary even more memorable.

First time actually not getting my seafood tower of power /​went with the 45 day dry aged off menu ribeye — are you serious!!? Sweet Baby Jesus my life is complete — end of review.
Oh wait, get the crab fried rice! Also, ordered the truffled mac and cheese with lobster on top… take dish, take face to dish and make love…

What can I say, I’m a musician at heart and what better lyrics describe our experience at Eddie V’s. First, let me apologize for not having taken more pictures, but we were celebrating my husband’s 38^th birthday and it was important to not ruin the mood trying to position the steak exactly by the champagne glass so the light from camera flash bounces just right.
However, the Unilocaler in me still needed to come back and share the awesomeness that is Eddie V’s.
My husband and I are true steak lovers. We never eat it casually, it always has to be a special occasion and for my husband’s birthday Eddie V’s was a no-​brainer. Previously we’ve eaten at Flemings, Steiner Ranch, Texas de Brazil, Fogo’s, Smith & Wollensky (Vegas) and Perry’s just to name a few. Eddie V’s stacks up quite nicely in comparison.
Everything from the dim lighting to the attire of the wait staff had just the right amount of class and sophistication for the occasion. The seating was a little too exposed for my liking (I’m more of a corner seat/​booth kind of girl), but the staff was so good at making us feel like the only people in the room.
Our food choices were a ½ dozen gulf oysters for our appetizer, Fuji apple and wedge salad as a second course and a 22 oz Prime Bone-​in Ribeye and Tomahawk Ribeye with a side of snow peas and crab fried rice for the main course. For desert the staff presented a dressed up blueberry cobbler as a «gift» for the birthday boy. Everything cooked to perfection!
I want to thank everyone at Eddie V’s for making our night so special and living up to the « Unilocal Hype». We’re tough critics when we need to be, but brag like proud mamas every chance we get!

The food at Eddie V was as succulent as the service was exceptional! We had a large party and we were treated like royalty. They complimentarily brought for us dumplings and fried calamari dishes that were out of this world –these alone would have suffice haha
I had the sword fish steak topped with crab meat and a side of avocado salsa. It was phenomenal. I ate every single piece while being already full… I also got to try the sole: fantastic and the salmon: marvelous!
Our side dishes consisted of truffle Mac and cheese, asparagus, and sautéed mushrooms. Needless to say, these were phenomenal as well…
Desserts… While everybody was pretty much stuffed, we shared banana foster that was flamed at our table and a molten chocolate cake. I might as well have licked the plate so much I spooned the delectable sweets…
Left the place 3 pounds heavier of amazing food, outstanding service and simply put phenomenal dishes.

Rating for Happy Hour!
One of my top happy hours on my list now! Although, it can be hard to get a table in the bar area, it’s so worth it!
$ 1 Oysters — delicious!
Chilled gulf shrimp — this one — the shrimp didn’t taste super fresh, it tasted kind of old/​lumpy
Shrimp Po Stickers — delicious. Ask for sauce on the side maybe —
Point Judith Calamari — we chose to sautee, fried might have been tastier
Lobster Bisque — although its not on happy hour, SO worth it.

Had a group meal here which gave us a great selection of apps. I had a filet that was very good. The crab called were really good and the ppt stockers were excellent. The service for a big hello croup was great.
Highly recommended but be ready to spend some cash.

It’s a seafood place! It’s a steak house! It’s swanky!
I’ve been an avowed seafood hater for most of my life, but recently I’ve started to come around. Eddie V’s certainly helped change that. The Point Judith Calamari is an interesting Asian twist, though I was more impressed with the fact that it was perfectly fried.
Drinks? Well I only had one, but I had it multiple times, and I can tell you their Moscow mule is legit. Many places go too heavy with the ginger beer, and it ends up too sugary. Not here.
Alright, so I ended up getting a steak at a seafood place. I had the filet. I regret nothing. It was perfectly cooked (medium rare. Don’t be a savage and order anything over medium), and they even have little flashlights to shine on the steak and ensure that it’s cooked to your liking.
Complaints? Maybe I’m getting curmudgeonly in my old age, but I feel like nice places should actually enforce the dress code. We were here on a random Thursday, but there were a ton of techie looking folks in t-​shirts, shorts and flip flops. It’s not the end of the world, but would dressing up kill ya?

I have been an Eddie V customer and fan since the beginning. I have always loved the food, the ambiance, and management.
My last visit there sitting in the bar area was absolutely disgusting. My reservation was delayed because I was a party of one. The hostess was rude and tried to seat me near the kitchen instead of inside the bar. The valet parking resulted in scraping my front bumper of my car which I did not realize until I got home.
The service was very slow and my portion of fish was very small. I felt very unwelcome on a Sunday night because they was so busy and because I was only one person. I felt pushed into a corner and felt just as well that I had not come. And you know what, I’m not going back. The restaurant in the Arboretum is much more congenial, much more hospitable. Parking is free. And the food is better. Or I’ll go to Truluck where they kiss my feet and always roll out the red carpet.
So okay, if you guys want to cater to the yuppies and other beautiful young people, and treat an old single guy like old leather i will end up enjoying dinner elsewhere.

Even though it’s a «chain» restaurant, I had a blast eating here during sxsw.
White table cloths and a dark upscale atmosphere was a great change of pace from the food trucks I’d been dining at.
Our server was funny, patient, and attentive.
We got the seafood tower and I was impressed with the size of the appetizer and the prawns were enormous!
For my entrée I got the fish special of the day and it was perfectly cooked fresh fish. The Mac and cheese side as well as the loaded mashed potatoes made the meal filling and perfect.
Dessert choices are almost all served with a scoop of local Amy’s icecream. We enjoyed the bananas foster dessert a little too much!
The food was great and portions are pretty generous. Left here a bit too full but had a great time.

Eddie V’s has always been a favorite. I am usually already downtown when I decide to ear here but if you are not dt already, its worth the drive. The parking situation could be better, it is downtown so expect to pay. They do have valet service right at the front door so that is nice.
When you first walk in you’re kind of in an in-​between area where the hostess stand is. Of course I am always at the bar so I go to the left to the «V Lounge» they call it. I may have eaten at a table in the other area but only once and it was along time ago.
As far as the bar goes, its very roomy and has a tv which is usually playing some sports event.
This place is known for their happy happy, 4 – 7 and all day Sunday and Monday

Tartare of Pacific Ahi Tuna– It was very fresh tasting. I wasn’t a fan of the chip it came with at first but it ended up growing on me and I kept eating it
Pot stickers– 100% PERFECT! Can’t go wrong with these!
Fun bar, great drinks and some of the best food downtown. Great place to bring a date!
