Recently moved to Texas and needed to find a place to get my state inspection done. I called and they got me in right away and had everything finished within half an hour. Everybody was nice and provided me with lots of good information. I would recommend this place to anyone!

I have been going to Excaliber for many years – they are what you want: professional, timely, pleasant, and deliver excellent services. James is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He is the type of person that you would send your children to whenever they needed help – I wish he could be in every college town that we sent our children (and cars) to. Use your AAA card, too — you will receive a credit on your invoice (which is already very reasonable).

Love this place. I’ve lived in Austin for 7 years and I’ve never changed from this shop since I first tried it. The service is good, the prices are comparable and the guys have great customer service. I’m not a whiz when it comes to cars so I always feel a little uneasy when things go wrong when I need to get it fixed. I’ve certainly had my times when I’ve been taken advantage of at other shops. But these guys take the time to explain things to you and make recommendations that take you into consideration (even if it means they avoid doing the work if it’s not needed/​making money). Customers matter to them and it’s easy to tell.
If you’re looking for a mechanic, do yourself a favor and come here.

I just moved to TX and was looking for a place to get my state inspection done. I found Excalibur on Unilocal and chose to take my car there, on a kind of whim.
The service was very friendly and fast, the man at the counter definitely knew his stuff and since there was nobody else waiting we chatted while I waited; he even recommended burger places. I needed new windshield wipers to pass the inspection and I thought it would be a rip-​off but it was very affordable; my husband was impressed with the prices. I will definitely make this my go-​to car place!

If I could give them 10 stars I would! Excalibur is the only place in atx I will ever take our cars: they are honest, helpful, and won’t BS you. We’ve never been uncharged, and they’ll tell you if something they find is worth fixing or not – again, no BS-they’ll straight up tell you «this part costs more than your car is worth» or «its on the diagnostic but it’s not a big deal», etc. Their diagnostics are free, too – seriously, who still offers that kind of service?! They also have convenient hours, and you can drop off your vehicle any time. I love my Excalibur!

This is where I take my car for repairs. I get the sense that they are very honest. They don’t seem to overcharge, they do good work and take responsibility for their work. One of the main employees there recognized me after a year between visits, remembered a bit about me and asked personalized questions. It’s kind of far from where I am, but I’ll keep going because I trust them.

Mu 12-​year-​old Cadillac is on its last leg, but James and Clay keep it running, at reasonable prices, and they offer many courtesy services to me. I’m not worthy!

These guys are amazing! I went here because my car was making all sorts of vacuum-​related sounds and because they accepted AirCheck Texas vouchers for emissions repairs. The staff was extremely courteous, even driving me home when they found out that my car needed to stay overnight. But what I appreciated most was that they didn’t make me feel like an idiot for waiting so long (16 months) to get the problem fixed in the first place — I always dread the mechanic’s lecture. Instead, Clay described everything that they found wrong with my car and explained each repair that was made. He and his team were able to work within the value of the voucher to fix the air leaks and get my car in tip-​top shape. Bravo!

I own a 2005 Toyota Matrix. I’m a 50ish year old man who knows how to replace brakes, thermostats, alternators, starters, etc. So I’m not entirely in the dark when it comes to car repairs.
Back in April 2014 my car was having hard starts and would not turn over every now and then. I brought my car for the first time because of them being in AAA and the Unilocal ratings. They tried to recreate the event but the car started every time. They could have just started guessing, putting in car parts and drain my resources but they didn’t. These guys are a class act. They even let me take my car for a few days with their diagnostic tool hooked up to my car so I could try to spot the problem myself.
Well we finally fixed it. Turned out to be a minor problem that was fixed for about $ 3.00. They charged me a diagnostic fee and I was back on the road with no problems. I delt with Clayton, Duncan and James.

Excalibur is a great auto repair shop. Your are treated well from the moment you call them until your car is ready. The do excellent work and are 100% honest.

Had a wonderful experience here. They work on mercedez and saved me a ton of money. They were very thorough and friendly. I will definately be using them in the future for my repair needs. They even have a very nice waiting area where they let you use a computer.

I cannot recommend this place enough. I got tired of the bs I was dealing with at the audi dealership. They never overcharge me here or suggest services that are unwarranted. They do a free diagnostic service but do not pressure you into feeling guilty for not doing it right away. They understand everyone has a budget and respect you as a human being. I refer everyone and they leave as happy as me. Thanks excalibur.

Called at the last minute to schedule an inspection, they fit me in and got me taken care of tout suite! Friendly staff, too!

Have to give these guys, and James in particular, props. My wife drives a 2007 V.W. with low mileage on it. We have been taking it to another place for years for service, but lately they have been «too busy». So when we took it to that place 3 times and they only they would do is «clear the codes» we asked around for another mechanic. Our best friends have been taking their V.W. to Excalibur for years and love them. I called them up and told them the situation and that the car needed attention but we could not afford to be down 1 car more than a day. James worked with us and got us in the next day. They then get us kept up– to– date on the repairs and came in much cheaper than expected. They are polite, professional and know your name. They actually follow-​up. Love this place!

Having been through a few shops with my various cars, Excalibur has been the most honest and trust worthy. They’ve seen my built motor Subaru as well has a few non-​built family cars and have been fair with diagnostics, inspections, maintenance and repairs. James always calls and confirms pricing and labor before they start work on the car just so that everyone is on the same page. If a car is dropped off and labor takes X amount of time, its done in X amount of time. No run around, just straight forward communication.
As someone that owns a extensively modified car and likes to work on his own cars, I do not hesitate to take cars to Excalibur when I’m out of ideas or cannot allocate the time to get something done. The cars I own are either work on by myself or Excalibur.
I’d like to also note that they are very honest with what absolutely needs to be done. I’ve never been sold a part that I didn’t need or extra services «just because». Thanks Excalibur, and I’ll be back soon.

I was utterly afraid to take my car anywhere for fear of the «shady» shop guy. This place blew me away! Everyone I spoke to and worked with was was professional, knowledgable, well spoken, friendly, and put me at ease. (Yes! All if those!)
They diagnosed several issues, including my scary mystery noises, and attended to what I asked for while not attempting to scare me into having extra work done. I will be returning to them and recommend them to anyone, especially anyone with an irrational fear of being ripped off.
Oh, also, I got a full year of roadside service for spending $ 25. Really? That saves so much money on AAA. Cool perk, but it was merely the sprinkles on top of the cherry on top of a freakin’ awesome car-​shop sundae.

Stopped in here randomly for an inspection, and got fantastic service. They fit me in when a lot of places turned me away, didn’t try to upsell me, and charged reasonable prices.
I’m a car guy — I know when I’m being BSed, and they didn’t try to pull my leg. They verified that my guess was correct, and when they didn’t have the part, gave me the part number, showed me where that particular part was and how to swap it, and told me what dealership had it in stock.

I’m terrible about taking care of my car. There’s a lot of things I know well, but cars, not so much.
I have trust issues with mechanics, and in the past I’ve taken my car to places where I feel they sense my weakness and look at me with mencing $$ signs in their eyes.
A friend recommended Excalibur, gone there twice, and now I feel like these guys are like my brothers. They are genuinely concerned about my car safety AND my cashflow. They don’t try to upsell me things I don’t need, but they are very cool in educating me on things I should know about car care without making me feel stupid.
I live off S. Lamar where I could throw a monkey wrench and hit an auto repair shop. But I still hobble my car up to Brad and the guys (most recently for brake issues) because I trust them.
There, I said it. I trust my mechanic.
Really surprised to see a less than favorable review here among the 5 stars. I’m guessing the guys must have been really busy, and that’s just because the word is out.
One more thing, my teenager will be driving soon. I’m freaked out enough about that, but I will make sure the guys at Excalibur keep her car safe.
I can’t think of higher praise than to say I would trust them with my kid.

I had just bought a mid-​90s Mercedes and although there were no major mechanical problems, I had a few things that needed to be repaired. Mainly, the heater blew out cool air and the oil lamp light stayed. Based on the all the 5 star reviews on here and Google, I took my car to Excalibur. After they checked it out, I was told the sensor that floats in the oil pan needed to be replaced. It was also strongly suggested that I get an oil change at the same time.
Of course, I wanted to know the cost. James promised to get me an estimate but I never got one. Even though I repeatedly asked for a quote (5 times to be exact), all I got were apologies, they were busy and he forgot. It was like he was stalling. When he couldn’t tell me how much they charged for a simple oil change, that was a Major Red Flag.
But I was hoping they could at least fix my heater. They didn’t. They replaced a blower in the heater but after a few days of lukewarm heat, it blew cool again. When I mentioned the cool air again, he gave me a song and dance about how it could be the ac that needed to be fixed because the heater/​ac acted as one unit and affects how the heater works. Because it would be hard to test the ac in cold weather I should bring it back when it’s warmer. He showed me how to manually overide the system to get heat but that didn’t fix the problem! They had my car for a week and that’s the best they could do? I was through with them. In all, I burned nearly $ 500 and nothing was fixed.
I took my car to another mechanic who looked at the oil sensor. He told me the sensor was fine but a WIRE to the oil sensor had been CUT. He fixed it in 45 minutes and for less than $ 70. No parts or oil change needed.
I’ll also have my new mechanic check out the heater/​ac next week. Excalibur gets one star for its courteous customer service but that’s it. Avoid this place if you actually want your car repaired.

After my car died one late night, I got my Ford Focus back today after the timing belt blew, and I also had my motor mounts replaced while it was in there. My car now runs and rides like it did the day I bought it.
I went to Excalibur based on the solid 5-​star reviews on Unilocal and Google Maps. Now I know why. Additionally, I had to wait an extra few days while they gave me a quote due to how busy they were, but for waiting, James gave me a discount and a sincere apology — notice that it didn’t affect my 5-​star rating.
This is quite possibly the best place I have ever taken my car for repairs. I left with a bill for $ 1600+, but I now have a 100% peace of mind that my car will be reliable and was thoroughly repaired by these guys.
James walked me through every single step of the repair, and then some; we talked quite a bit. Him and his mechanics really know their stuff and will take the time to explain everything to you and get it right the first time.
I’ll be going here with all of my cars and recommending Excalibur as long as I am in Austin, no question about that.
