70 afterschool programs in the Austin area to provide children with an enriching, safe environment and support parents while they work. Extend-​A-​Care for Kids provides on site after school programs at elementary schools in Austin, Del Valle, Hays Consolidated ISDs, KIPP Academy and Eden Park. We have over 70 programs that are designed to accommodate the needs of working parents by being both affordable and high in quality. We offer a variety of outdoor and indoor activities including time for reading and homework, supervised sports, field trips, creative arts, table games, math and science projects, music, dramatic play, cooking, and health and safety. History

Established in 1969.

Extend-​A-​Care for Kids was founded in 1969 by Margaret Gregg and Marian Robertson, two volunteers elected by their church to provide support to disadvantaged citizens. A mother and father of five had recently moved to Austin, and sought assistance from the volunteers with finding housing and employment. After the family secured a small house and full-​time jobs, they received word from the family’s neighbor that the children were being left home alone well into each night. Seeing the many shortfalls of this and many other families’ after-​school arrangements, Margaret Gregg and Marian Robertson began laying the foundation of Extend-A-Care’s mission. Startup funding for EAC was provided by the Urban Council. Hundreds of volunteers joined forces as board members and unpaid staff to assist in EAC’s development. Demand for geographic expansion became so great during the late 80s to early 90s that EAC spread to more sites in two years than it had in the previous ten.
