The First Tee of Greater Austin (TFTGA) is a non-​profit youth development organization focused on providing young people with educational programs to build character, instill life-​enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. Conveniently located at the Harvey Penick Golf Campus, close to downtown Austin, TX, TFTGA programs are offered both on campus, as well as in area-​schools through the National School Program. As a 501©3 non-​profit organization, The First Tee of Greater Austin depends on the generous financial support from the Austin community to continue programs, fund scholarships for youth in need, and bring programs to more Austin-​area schools through the National School Program. To date, The First Tee of Greater Austin has touched approximately 10,000 area youth since 1999, and expects to touch at least 5,000 in 2011. History

Established in 1999.

The First Tee began programming in fall 1999 with 13 boys whose after-​school football coach had deserted them. Since that time we have served more than 5,000 young people in the greater Austin area. In April 2005 The First Tee of Greater Austin opened it’s classroom the Harvey Penick Golf Campus. Prior to that, The First Tee had delivered after-​school programming on school playgrounds and at municipal courses where it rented space.

The Harvey Penick Golf Campus is a professionally designed nine-​hole course with a three-​hole short course, driving range, practice greens and a pavilion available for community use. The First Tee also built six ball fields — three baseball/​softball fields and three soccer/​football fields — for use by its partner, the East Communities YMCA.

A leading The First Tee Chapter, The First Tee of Greater Austin played a significant role in the adoption of The First Tee Life Skills Experience curriculum by The First Tee home office.
