Fish Gallery

Very nice and friendly store. The store has all the tanks together with a sign pointing between salt and fresh water. They had more fresh water fish than saltwater, but that seems to be the norm with most aquarium stores. The bettas are kept in tiny bowls instead of cups, but at least the water was clean. The bettas were all beautiful and healthy looking. The aquarium plants are in a separate room with the koi fish and this awesome selfie picture area. They had a fantastic selection of plants. In another section of the store they have some tanks. In the final room of the store there is display tanks with gorgeous fish and a the largest gourami I have ever seen. I could probably hang out here for awhile just watching the fish.
Overall liked the store and definitely will get more plants here and some live rock.

I want to love this place, but this is probably the last LFS i would stop at.

If you in to saltwater don’t come here very little selection and very over priced and sickly looking not to mention they don’t know much about saltwater

Nice, clean big store! Kids love it here and the staff are nice and smart and helped me out with my snail problem. I didn’t see any sick or dead fish, and all the betta fish looked really healthy. Prices aren’t bad. Fish gallery Austin is a great place for fish hobbyists and people who just want to look around.

BEWARE! 3 strikes you’re out! Going to Aqua Tek from now on. Turned my fish tank into a fish graveyard! Terrible quality and not ethical. Sold me fish that were not compatible with each other. Sold me a black trigger fighting fish, i did not know this until ALL my other fish died except 2! Also the water heater broke within 2 months and wouldn’t replace that either. RIP Nemo, Dory, trigger and other fish was too soon to die.
GUESS WHAT?!? theres another black trigger for sale in their store for $ 30. Will most likely mess up someone else tank so they can charge more to restore and replace!
I have bought everything from here including 2 tanks, $ 1000+ in fish and $ 100’s in live coral. All the coral died within 2 months.
Gave them the chance to help and redeem themselves but has not happened.
I do not normally write reviews but felt obligated to show their service has not improved. I can really relate to Larraine review.

This place is fantastic. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. There is a separate room used for kids events and activities and I had my daughters 3^rd birthday here. They conduct a short educational session with the kids in their showcase room. Afterwards they have a ‘touch tank’ where the kids can play with some of the creatures. The staff were great hosts and the kids loved it. Prices are good and they have a great selection. I have a 3 gallon tank at work and a 30 gallon tank at home. Nearly all of my fish have come from this place and I have not had any health problems with any of them.

don’t shop here as it will cost you fish or plant price PLUS WHAT IT COSTS TO RESTORE YOUR TANK to original condition.
I have shopped here and each time I think «oh how beautiful, how nice» only to have my tank infected a week later.
When i called to ask how they would like to help out, I was given a set of instructions and then told I would have to ‘purchase’ the corrections. And that they have ‘no guaranty’ on their livestock. Hhmmmm fishy way to do business if you ask me. I will be shopping with LOCAL businesses from now on for sure.

We had purchased our fish from a big chain. They we r getting sick and dying, Fish Gallery helped me get my water right, we got new fish and they are all healthy!

This is my favorite place for plants and info hands down. Great people. Great service. Terrific selection. As an intermediate aquascaper, I always check here before buying on eBay and I’m usually surprised to find exactly what I was looking at on line right there in the store. The driftwood selection is off the chain. Check the photo for my newly planted tank, stocked largely from FG

TFG have unfortunately killed 3 octopi, and several other exotic fish my boyfriend and I have purchased for our home. It disturbs me to see the lack of care and concern they have expressed towards these living animals and do not recommend them as handlers of your potential pets. Thousands of dollars later, we should not have to be forced to watch our loved animals die. Rest in peace octopi, lion fish, zebra eel, puffer fish, and more.

I’m a Houston person new to Austin. So thrilled to still be able to go to the fish gallery: D. The schools of fish and peacock eels I bought from the Houston location have survived being transported multiple times and are all doing well. They’ve sold me strong healthy fish. I like to buy here.

This place is really cool. Neat store with decent prices. But, where this place shines is how child friendly it is! They have a kids corner with a giant fish tank that’s really cool (according to my kid). They also have an enormous tank that has observation bubbles that kids can climb into and watch the fish swim around their heads. Great way to get out and do something on cold rainy days with the kids. Best part is it’s free!

As a lifelong fish hobbyist and a fish veterinarian, I feel lucky to have places like Fish Gallery in Austin. You can always count on Linus and the crew to go the extra mile. You guys do awesome work!

Never got a chance to visit the Houston fish gallery. Super excited one opened in Austin shortly after moving here. Always nice to walk in to. Staff helpful and knowledgeable. Tanks look beautiful and kept up. Definitely the To-​go-​To store if looking for fish.

I really want to love this place. I mean, we got our really pretty fancy goldfish trio and some snails from them, they helped us with food, they have a badass tank thing you can put your head in and look around at all the underwater amazement…
But why 2 stars… because when I asked about tank size for our goldfish, I was terribly terribly misinformed. We explained what we had a home, and the (really friendly!!) employee that helped us agreed it would be an ok size, when it actually was a sure fire way to kill our trio of fish. Granted he said we could trade them in if they got too large (awesome?!) it still would have been helpful to have been told some helpful info.
Our fish are still alive, but not in that smallish tank I was assured would be alright. (I did not buy the tank from them. I had already had it at home) I had to buy another, that I found on craiglist, luckily quickly and cheaper.
Would I return? Maybe after a date night dinner of sushi from down the street (i know i know). Would I buy anything from them? Possibly. Would I go to them for advice? probably not. Something is a little fishy in that department.

I really loved the waterfall room with the two observation bubbles, it was so cool to be able to sit and watch the fish from «inside» the tank! They had an okay selection of fancy goldfish (my favorite) and some looked downright sick, injured or dead. That’s the worst thing here: I actually saw dead or injured fish in almost every single tank.
Their huge showroom has some beautiful tanks, but look at the base of the rocks and reefs and you’ll see what I mean.
I was so concerned about the moldy cup containing a VERY dead Betta male (directly next to the sign that was very lengthy and specific about their care and needs!!) that I brought it to a member of the staffs attention. He simply said «oh. Okay» and returned to his mopping.
Two stars for the waterfall and neat display room.
Zero stars for animal husbandry, live inventory and customer service, which is why I went in the first place.

My boyfriend decided to resurrect his 150-​gallon fish tank after its been dormant for more than a decade… much to my chagrin.
So, for the past several weeks he’s been cycling water, testing nitrate and ph levels and ordering fake greenery from amazon.
When he settled on what fish he wanted, he went window shopping at various stores across our area. This past weekend, when he was ready to commit to buying the fish, he dragged me into the Fish Gallery.
The Fish Gallery is a chain with several stores in Texas. They just opened this shop in North Austin — right next to the Yellow Rose!
The shop is large, bright, airy and clean! The fish tanks are clean and the fish seem healthy enough. Their selection of salt-​water fish is less than the Dome in south Austin but the rest of their selection is encompassing.
They have a huge area dedicated to their «set-​ups.» If you have $ 25k to drop on a wall tank, do it. It’s gorgeous. They even put couches in there so you can see all the beautiful fish.
They are also really competitive when it comes to pricing. The discus that we bought were 2 for $ 75 — compared to the Dome ($ 50ish each).
The fish wranglers were all really helpful and knowledgeable.
While I wasn’t too keen on the idea of putting a big ass fish tank in our dining area, in the end, it’s actually really pretty.

I was so excited for this store to open up (it took a while too) and was finally able to make in yesterday due to rain. Very nice setup. I was debating getting salt water fish and a custom tank setup. But there was a sign that said the salt water fish would be coming in a week due to water issues, which is understandable.
So why did they only get 3 stars from me? That would be due to the 4 (maybe 5) employees who did not greet me, did not ask me questions, and did not assist me! I did not hear a peep from any of the active employees towards me. The two girls in the front by the counter were busy talking away about whatever happened last night, one employee was in the break room (which is fine), and then there was a gentlemen in the office by the custom tanks. I was in there during my lunch break at about 1:30 — 2:00 and stayed for about 25 – 35 minutes before I just gave up and left.
Would I go back? Honestly I don’t know. My kids love fish but hey we have an Aquarium opening in November. BUT since this store has so much potential I will go back in about 2 – 3 weeks once the salt water fish is in. I like their concept and the fact that they offer full service on the setup. They will also help you design the tank of your dreams (at least from what I saw). They have some live rock and even looks like the start of a rainforest environment which was cool.
The Customer Service needs a LOT of improving. At least greet someone at the door. For all they know they missed out on a big sale yesterday. Just Sayin!
