Fit To The Core

Wow! What an experience! I normally hate going to the gym, so I’m always looking for fun and unique ways to work out. I’ve only tried basic yoga once before and I wasn’t that great at it. So I’m definitely a beginner!
This class however was challenging, fun and the instructor, Sarah was great at explaining each step for all of us newbies. The class only consists of 6 people, which is great because it’s not super crowded. It was very relaxing and also worked your muscles with squats /​lunges. I can’t wait to go back! I’ve even recruited my boyfriend to try it with me next time :-)
I gave it 4 stars because the price seems kind of high for a single class. However, I purchased a 2 for 1 Groupon deal. It’s definitely interesting. But not something I could pay on the regular.

You know you’re in trouble when the voices in your head say «wtf were you thinking» Anyhow my gf and I decided to give this a go. The facility was inside an actual gym with 1 room in the back dedicated to Anti-​Gravity Yoga.
The whole idea of this was intriguing. Swinging 3ft above the ground in 9ft of silk?
Travis was patient, helpful and overall a good teacher. It just wasn’t for us. Symptoms of nausea, dizziness, and claustrophobia to top it off the room didn’t have AC but fans that just blew the muggy air around. Combination for disaster.
I will leave you with a funny note: the chick behind me let out a fart mid swing luckily the silk dutch ovened her…

What an unbelievable experience! I am in LOVE with antigravity yoga and with this studio in particular. I love the small, intimate, mellow, space. A definite must!

I too took advantage of the Living Social deal and had to put my name on the schedule months ahead of time. But wow, oh wow, anti-​gravity yoga was soooo much fun! Such a serene, yet challenging experience! I will most definitely be back! The ONLY reason I didn’t post as a 5 star business is because the availability of classes right now is pretty limited. Really hoping they open up more classes soon as I certainly will pay full price for this incredible experience!

Most fun I’ve had in a long time. I did the living social deal, but I’ll pay full price for classes as soon as they have an open spot! If you get a chance, do it! So fun! Great for all levels. Instructors are super sweet.

Purchased a Living Social for Fit To the Core around April or so. It was right before they moved locations. Not being able to schedule a class right then, I contacted them and they said my deal wouldn’t expire due to the move. That’s awesome, I thought.
Now it’s August, and there’s still not a single class being offered. I don’t see any reviews past Februrary and there’s been nothing posted that I’ve found to explain what’s going on. I’ve only gotten an email saying that finding a new location took longer than thought and that they should be offering classes in the next week or so. Unfortunately, that was 2 weeks ago, and still nothing on the website, and I checked 2 months out. I’ve been checking their website since May. Really disappointing as my friends who’ve gone said they loved it, but I can’t force a business to open it’s doors. Oh well, I got my Living Social refunded, thank goodness. Maybe I’ll be able to try this, one day, but only if they actually open again.

I bought this deal online where I can buy two sessions of anti-​gravity yoga for $ 18. I didn’t want to pass this up since I’m always open to new workouts that are not solely in the regular gym.
I use to do yoga until I took up rowing. But I thought this would be a small way to try to get back into doing yoga again along with my rowing. They don’t advertise outside their building which I should complain to the building management that they need to give them a sign. Just enter through the side of the building.
It does incorporate some yoga asanas and aerial moves. It’s hard to get out of your mind the fear of falling as I did and still do. You are not high off the ground. At first when I was trying to get to the silk hammock I thought I was going to break it. Eventually I got there and enjoyed myself thoroughly fighting with gravity. I was kind of scared when I had to hang upside down for a second time. This workout was more of mental than a physical mindset.
I’m not going to give myself a hard time one the first try but luckily I bought a second pass I’ll know what to expect. I’m actually eager to get back to it soon. Thank god the instructor was very understanding me being a couple of minutes late and being slow in understanding anti-​gravity yoga.
Parking is easy. The classes do fill up quickly and too bad there isn’t more times offered. I hope one of these days they will have a bigger space and more times added to their schedule.

I like to try out the wide variety of yoga offerings in Austin.
Anti-​gravity? Sign me up.
This is not purely yoga, but it’s completely worthwhile.
It’s the strange interbreeding of yoga, pilates, aerial silks, and sheer playground fun.
The studio is located on 2244, out past the One World Theater, same side of the street. While not difficult to find, you may need to use the front door (during typical business hours), or the left side door (after hours) to enter.
It actually shares a storefront with the Hall Center, but you can see the ‘Fit to the Core’ sign in the front lobby. There is one public bathroom that you can use to change in.
The room only has 5 students, plus one teacher, so you get a lot of individual attention.
You have to sign up in advance online, since the class size is so limited, and no refunds for being lazy and not showing up.
In the mirrored studio, the white hammocks hang from chains and carabiners, and smell like clean laundry. They are stretchy, reliable, adjustable to your height, and allow you to deepen your stretches without much risk.
Inversions here are some of the best.
In yoga, many people look at shoulder stands, head stands, and other such inversions as the holy grail (s), but they’re not realistic for everyone.
If you have certain back conditions (like a mild degree of scoliosis, as I have), many inversions aren’t even recommended.
In these hammocks, however, your weight is distributed on your shoulders, hips, knees, or hooked feet, and suddenly, whee! You’re upside down and loving it!
You get most of the benefits of inversion, plus spinal elongation (thank you, gravity) — not to mention cool tricks that keep you entertained.
Just don’t wear floppy clothes, or everyone will be seeing London, France, and… you know the rest.
The intro class does everything step-​by-​step, so you don’t have to know much to get going. I would only recommend that you be able to do some situps/​crunches and pushups before attending.
Reason being, this class will challenge your arm strength and work your core, and you’ll want to try (and hopefully, succeed at) everything. Part of the fun is in doing the thing you think you cannot do.
The tricks and flips class may be slightly modified for newbies or more advanced students, and adds a level of challenge to the basic practice. (If you have Travis, just wait ’til he makes you do the Trust Drop. Crazy!)
And the savasana/​relaxation period at the end of any class?
Just you, surrounded by a sea of white, floating.
It made me think of being on a tropical beach, listening to seagulls while gently swaying in the breeze.
Hopefully, this place will become crazy popular, and they’ll expand to the rest of Austin.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I went here to see if it would help my back as I have been having lower back problems and boy did it! Not only was the class super fun but my back feels so much better even after the first class. The instructor, Travis, was very friendly and made sure all of us in class were on the same page before moving on to the next move due to such a small class. This is key for me because some yoga instructors are not able to do that and if I fall behind in class it only frustrates me that much more. I cannot wait to go back! If you have not tried AntiGravity Yoga, get your booty over there! You will no be disappointed!

I made a special trip to Austin to check out this new anti-​gravity yoga studio. Since Houston doesn’t have this yet I was in high R&D mode, trying to take in all the details of their rigging and set up. Hanging in fabric bolted to the ceiling is kind of like Christianity: So many retarded ideas put together but somehow they create a bliss you can only feel if you practice.
Not only did I love the location, but parking was easy, the studio is gorgeous and then best of all, the class is perfect! Sarah was our instructor and she taught the perfect blend of describing and showing the poses that everyone was able to achieve each pose. I’d been to anti gravity yoga classes before but it was my friend’s first class and we both loved it. It is a little far from central Austin but once you get there you will appreciate the beautiful canvas that surrounds you. You’ll feel like a longer, more balanced person than when you walked in.
Don’t wear loose clothing, it’ll only fly in your face or get tangled. Do travel light. Just your car keys and credit card, which can be safely placed in the room with you. Do tell the instructors how you felt about the class after. Yoga instructors get paid in smiles (certainly not big $$$) so lay it on thick if you loved the class. I hope this studio does great and more people get turned on to anti gravity yoga!

I took my first class today, it was exhilarating. Each person in class (only 3 students in my class) has a silk hammock hung from the ceiling. I was able to get into some great stretches, some even deeper than hatha/​ashtanga yoga, thanks to the support and resistance of the hammock. The atmosphere was quiet, but fun. There were times during the hour that I felt like an acrobat in the circus, no other fitness class can claim that! My teacher, Sarah, gave great instructions throughout the class.

I almost didn’t want to write a review because I want to keep this place all to myself. MINE!!! Fit to the Core offered free Anti-​Gravity Yoga classes for the month of March every Monday at 6:30am. I had no idea what it was, but my sister-​in-​law was like «we have to sign up!» so we did. I am so happy! This was the coolest class I have ever taken, especially as far as yoga is concerned. It’s more like acrobatics mixed with yoga, pilates, and a small amount of strength training. I am a personal trainer, so I didn’t expect a yoga class would do much for me, other than the stretching aspect. However, the next day I was sore in places I am NEVER sore, my hip flexors, my biceps, random places. It is a really fun class, and the teacher/​owner, Sarah, is a really sweet, good teacher. I give this place 5 stars!
