Growler Room

Only fine beers and reasonable prices. Perfect pour.
I’ve been to many places in Austin that fill growlers and half the time they can’t pour correctly.
I had been going to Whole Foods domain, but the brew shack in the middle of the store is a hassle and crowded. They continuously blacklisted more and more beers. Last time I went to WF they were only allowing 32oz growlers for the decent beers. I couldn’t find a single beer that I would ever want that wasn’t blacklisted or limited pour. I was also given a hard time for not having a surgeon general warning on the vessel.
Now, I probably will never go anywhere except Growler Room to get a weekend fill. All the beers are fine selections and are poured perfectly. The clientele are beer lovers and it’s a nice, chill environment. If you want a decent selection without any filler, knowledgeable staff, and fair prices, look no further.

Very straight forward place to get your growlers filled. Staff is knowledgeable and willing to talk about the selections. The menu is not huge, but lots of local specialty beers along with a few standard favorites. They even carry mead and cider. Prices are a little cheaper than most places that offer fills. I’ll have to make sure I keep my empty containers in the car to stop in.

I REALLY tried to figure out a reason to not give the Growler Room 5 stars, but I couldn’t.
Selection:
Pecan Porter seemingly always available (I’m done), a great variety of local and regionals, beers, meads and ciders.
Service:
Always patient, always helpful, always willing to educate and offer a sample. I always leave the Growler Room feeling like I was looked after by people who really care about what they do and the beverages they dispense.
Price:
Very fair (i.e., really pretty cheap!).
Although they initially had me at «Yes, we do have Pecan Porter», they kept me for all the reasons above.

Full disclosure — I drove by this probably hundreds of times since they moved in, and I never made the connection between «Beer» and «Growler». I legitimately thought this was a dog wash or something.

That aside, I was finally clued in by a fellow beer aficionado at work after attempting to track down a local beer that was rapidly disappearing from everywhere I looked. Both locations of The Growler Room, north and south, had it in stock. And thus we stopped in to grab a few growlers.
Quick, easy, and above all quirky, they have a nice selection of taps available and the whole process is nice and easy to acquire a growler full of your chosen beer.
Echoing others, they have several taps you’ll be hard-​pressed to find at times.
Now that I’m aware of their existence, I can see making specific requests for birthdays, and other special occasions. Or really, just the weekend is enough reason to stop by.
Fellow beer nerds unite, grab your growler, and stop on by.

This place is great. They have a lot of delicious beer you can only get in kegs. If you’re not sure what you want you can sample until you decide on something.

I love this place. They get good beer on a bunch of taps and sell it at reasonable prices. They also keep their tap list up-​to-​date in almost real time on their Facebook page.
At this point, I’m much more inclined to go grab a growler and bring it home than to either go out for a drink or pick up bottles. It’s just the right trade-​off between getting really good beer, actually enjoying it instead of storing bottles away, and being able to enjoy it when you want to with the food you want.
The service is always good. Sean (with the dreads) is really friendly after you’ve come in a few times and will always offer his opinion on the beer even if it’s negative. He’s also not offended if you don’t take his advice.

Have been here twice, once today. Guy that works there is not friendly at all. He may be knowledgeable about beer but seems to get irritated if you ask him anything. Bad customer service skills.

Customer Service Horrible!
The man that I spoke to in the shop was one of the rudest persons I have felt with. Apparently you are not supposed to ask any questions pertaining to this mans’ job because he will act like he is going out of his way just to answer. And 1 word answers at that!
If you like to be ignored or made to feel like a bother then this is the place for you!

This is located in a strip mall and still has a confusing entrance because it still has a fed ex window decal on it.
There is a small selection of adult beverages to fill your growlers! They also have merchandise ranging from tshirts, growlers, drinking games, etc.
The gentleman pouring the growlers was nice and you can also get anything in a mason jar size to try and come back to purchase a larger size.
The pricing was good and the service was great because the guy pouring was educated on all the beverages they offered.
It’s an in and out kind of place and you won’t leave unhappy if you find your favorite brew!

YEPPERS-​i am a fan! Big fan! Love that it is close in the hood and Dean at the Growler Room is a total rock star in helping me figure out a cool birthday gift for my hubby. It is a small venue so don’t expect a lot of tables to sit and drink although there are some bar stools you can sit at and drink/​try out some beers. Big selection of green and amber growlers plus you can have Dean engrave one of the growlers for you at a reasonable charge.
The selection of beers is not so overwhelming that it boggles the mind to choose just one but enough selection that you feel you are getting something different that you couldn’t get just anywhere.
The customer service is top notch and Dean was EXTREMELY helpful. They also had a great deal on some 6 packs in their cooler if you didn’t want to fill up a growler that day (although you ARE going to a place called the Growler Room… that’s kind of like going to a fancy seafood restaurant and ordering chicken fried steak. who does that!!!)
Anyway-​if you love beer and want to try out a local austin business, give the Growler Room a try. I think you will be glad you made the trip!

I still love the Growler Room. I appreciate the service, the staff, and the opportunity to try interesting brews that are otherwise hard to find in Austin.
I am dropping a star for a couple of reasons. My biggest concern about Growler Room is that the prices are relatively high compared to the competition. It seems like many of fills are too expensive for the 64 ounces of perishable beer, particular compared to bottles.
I have found that I haven’t been stopping in as much because I know that I can usually find the same fills for a little less cash or in a 6 pack of bottles (72 ounces, won’t go flat) for a lot less.

A friend turned me on to this place. A friend and I went thinking we could have a drink and some conversation. We got the conversation part right but this place is strickly to go. Don’t worry if you don’t own a growler, they have plenty for sale in all sizes and costs. The real treat here is the service. You can try as many samples as you can, each coming with a mini lesson. The best thing you can do is walk in and tell them what you drink already and the samples start. You will find something really nice. The conversation is nice, the selection is great and the prices are what you would expect for small batch micro-brew…Great place.

Oh man oh man oh man!!! Got my first growler here and I haven’t looked back. Good selection of them and you can even get your growler customized by getting them engraved with whatever you want! Yo that’s freaking cool.
Now for the beer… dude they have an amazing variety to choose from. Most are local beers which I love and they now have an odell selection from Colorado who’s is not bad at all my friends.
Go get your growler before they run out! And if they do, don’t worry theyll get some more. Oh there’s now a new growler room down south on oltorf! And it just keeps getting better.

So for Christmas, I wanted to subscribe my boyfriend to one of those «Beer of the Month Club» deals, but after exploring the various legal challenges of shipping alcohol to Texas, I decided to create my own DIY club for him. He gets one growler filled per month for… as long as we both remember. So probably another month or so.
I visited the Growler Room over the weekend for his first fill. Unfortunately, my visit got off to a rocky start, as I dropped one of his growlers in the parking lot and smashed it into about 100 pieces. After spending ten minutes scraping glass off the pavement and out from underneath the car next to me, I was on my way!
It cost $ 7.50 to replace the boring growler I broke (I think it’s actually a half growler), with a much cuter version that had an adorable little snarling bear on it. Their growler fills at the moment range from $ 12-​$ 18 depending on the beer, but their inventory seems to change pretty frequently.
The guy working the counter — I didn’t catch his name, but he had long blonde-​ish hair — was super chill and friendly.
They sell a fairly random assortment of drinkware for very reasonable prices. I was nearly sucked in by their $ 2 margarita glasses, before remembering that I don’t actually like tequila. They also sell some very fancy steins at higher price points.

What I know about the Growler Room:
1. Hubby’s Heaven. He will be moving in if we ever part.
2. There are about thirty unique and hard to find craft beers on tap. This always includes one or two ciders.
3. Once, I did a beer tasting here with the «Most Interesting Man in the World». (I’ve got the photo to prove it! See pic below.)
4. The owner, Dean, could write a book about beer and cider and how, where, when (he would say any time) and why to drink it.
5. A «Growler» is not an angry dog but a container you will buy to put your beer in.
6. There are a number of tshirts, funny signs and beer glasses for purchase.
7. Not sure which beer? Dean will whip out a little cup and pour you a taste.
8. Everyone leaves happy!

This place is weird and a little confusing, but in a mostly endearing sort of way. In preparation for a tubing trip I stopped by with my partner. We were hoping they carried growlers in metal or plastic to take on the river, and we were in luck! They have beautiful metal vacuum-​insulated growlers for $ 45, and it was $ 12 to fill them.
The guy who helped us was friendly and let us try a few different beers before choosing. I do wish it was more clear on their price list what is bottled versus tap, but I think we would have gotten a bit more explanation had we come at a different time… there were three beer reps there as well as several regulars who were doing quite a bit of chatting.

I will be back. And back, and back, and back. To fill my cool gothic growler (purchased here) and mason jars with freshly tapped beer! And to hear Sean’s knowledgeable opinions about beer and musings about life.
After a few samples the decision just seemed to get harder. My take-​homes this go round (⁵⁄₂₅) were the Karbach Kolsch and the Ranger Creek Strawberry Milk Stout, which hails from Houston.
This newest addition to eclectic Burnet Road fits in with the scene perfectly! If you’re looking to be seen or want gimmicky marketing head for West 6^th. If you’re okay with an unassuming retail space, easy parking, laid-​back attitudes and the honest beer gospel truth, this is where to go.

The Growler Room is great. Another fantastic addition to the liquor choices along Burnet (King Liquor, Sunrise Minimart, Rosedale Market). They’ve got a number of Texan beers on tap, ranging from 512, Guadalupe Brewing Company, Live Oak, etc. Their Facebook is updated weekly with a list of beers and prices, and they’ve also got a Twitter. Sean and Dean, the two workers, are great guys and really helpful. They’ll clean out your growler for you before they fill it, and you’re able to try out the available beers before purchasing.
They’ll fill any growler you have, but you can also purchase growlers on-​site. I bought a 32 oz growler for $ 7.50, and they also have 64 oz ($ 32) and one gallon ($ 20) growlers available. The Growler Room is also fairly easy to find, in the same plaza as Sun Liquor. You can see it from Burnet now, but don’t be thrown off by the FedEx sign that’s still on the window — they’re actually an authorized FedEx shipper!
One last note, they throw beer tastings, which is another reason to follow them on FB/​Twitter. As far as I know, they’ve had Ballast Point and Guadalupe come in. Growler Room also pulls some rare beers (i.e. 512’s Cascabel Cream Stout).
I’d definitely recommend coming out, especially since they feature your local beers at a great price with freshness. As the Growler Room says — come and fill it!

Growler room is run by some men who now have me hooked on my new favorite local brewery: Guadalupe! I had never bought a growler or anything before of draft beer, so I was totally ready to take a bunch home. Dean, the owner, was gracious enough to explain how it worked and let me try several different beers so I could make the tough decision on what to buy. I wound up loving the Real Ale Four Squared (LOVE this brewery) and took home 1 pint (they sell pint mason jars for $ 1 each) and two 32oz., one of the Guadalupe Scotch and one of the Guadalupe Honey. These beers were frickenfantastic. And hiiiiiiiiiiiigh on the alcohol content (7.2−8.2) awwwwh yea. I love me some local beers on draft, to have on hand anytime I want. Thanks be to Burnet Road for this place.
But yea, it was confusing at first when I walked in. I think Growler Room shares with Fedex? It’s in a strip center near Pour House, in the same shopping center at Bird’s Barbershop. Anyway, I’ve totally become a beer snob now. Thanks Growler Room. I need more beer already.

When I walked into the Growler Room I thought holy man cave! What can you buy here? Steins, pint glasses, growlers in all shapes and sizes, beer to fill your growlers, signs, t shirts, darts, Mexican dominoes (who doesn’t like a good game of train?). What makes this place special is you can get your favorite, or in my case new favorite, local or other craft beer on draft to go. Being a small place I would bet they will get kegs of small batches from local brewers. They kindly offered me some samples and I decided on a liter growler (about 2 pint glasses worth) of the delicious Sculpin IPA. I usually choose vino over beer but do appreciate a good brew and there is nothing like a cold refreshing beer on a hot Texas day. Fireman’s 4 and Sculpin both fit the bill. And just as important they pair well with Texas BBQ! This would be the perfect stop before heading to Salt Lick or a BYOB food trailer.
TIP: before you go check their Facebook page. They often have sales, «happy hour» specials and what’s on tap posted there.
I was able to find the Growler Room right away thanks to Richard’s review. Like he mentioned you cannot see the storefront from the street.
