I help people find freedom from tension, which literally means that their bodies soften and relax while their minds remain awake. You can think of Guided Release Therapy as a training ground for the question, «How do I relax my mind, how do I relax my body?» In GRT sessions clients learn to slow down, breathe deeply and skillfully, feel present in their bodies (rather than being lost in thought) and consciously release body tension while actually reaching a deep level of relaxation.
GRT is distinct from many other forms of bodywork in that it is education-based and insight-oriented: it guides people toward recognizing how to let go of body tension themselves with hopes that they eventually do not need to rely on somebody else to do it for them. GRT clients gain deeper levels of ease and clarity within themselves. GRT is especially helpful for people with chronic neck, jaw, back and pelvic tightness. It’s also quite useful for those who want to begin or deepen a meditation practice.
History
Established in 2010.
Guided Release Therapy is an approach to bodywork that I began developing in the spring of 2010. After practicing massage for several years and through the practice of meditation and yoga I began to realize that, while we have industries based on how to give various therapies that attempt to ‘fix’ our ailments, very few healers even talk about how we as clients/patients are to receive this work. I began exploring the intersection of the mind and body — the nervous system. Why did some people respond much more thoroughly to my massage than others? This question led to an inquiry into the nature of body tension.
I began by coaching my clients how to receive my neck massage. It soon became clearer to me that my clients had to be shown where they were over-tensing their tissue and had to be shown how to stop. So I started GRT with the aim of teaching my clients how to stop unconsciously over-tensing their bodies. GRT continues to grow and develop with this as its core tenant.

I’m passionate about us embodying ourselves. I find that our bodies give us honest feedback and can be used to bring us into deeper levels of presence. As a practitioner of meditation and yoga, I’m passionate about embracing the experience of the body, especially right now during our fast-paced culture of distractions and high stress. My mission is for us to turn the body into an ally.
I love poetry, particularly Sufi poetry and reading/writing haiku. I also like to be empirical about things: I trust what works over what I think «should» work. As such, I enjoy Integral Theory, Buddhist Dharma, non-dual thinkers such as Adyashanti and Eckart Tolle and the writings of FM Alexander and Reggie Ray.
I received my certification from The Lauterstein-Conway School of Massage here in Austin and have been practicing bodywork since 2004. I designed Guided Release in the spring of 2010. Aside from private sessions I also teach guided meditation workshops and classes.
