I stopped here today for lunch having remembered them as making a darned good burger over the years, especially at their old locations near Seton Hospital. Unfortunately, the current burger doesn’t match the memories. Today’s burger, which came off a flame-broiled conveyor belt had no flame broiled taste.(Player’s used to use the same machinery and the burgers always tasted grilled.) The burger tasted very institutional. The burger combined with obvious frozen food-service grade French fries and moderately surly service were bad enough. Paying just under ten dollars for this was enough to ensure I won’t be back. I now know why the Whataburger up the road had a full parking lot and Hill-Bert’s had plenty of parking.

I do recommend the burgers. Good stuff. Onion rings are the overbreaded and not enough enough type. Fries are good. Other sandwiches are good. I think the bathroom is on the outside of the building. I guess this building must be really old. It looks like a former taco bell. The staff is friendly enough. Refills on your drink are 25 cents.

Ill be back. Good basic burger with plenty of fresh toppings. Far superior to the international chains but at the sane price. Local fast food. Expectations met.

I stopped by here tonight based on a recommendation from an acquaintance and boy, am I disappointed with this experience. I ordered the 9pc mild wings. When I got home and opened the box — the wings were floating in sauce and I noticed the microscopic wings must have come from some anorexic birds because all the pieces were so tiny! And to boot, 5 of the 9 were wings & tips(which should be the best part) but sadly there was maybe 1 bite of chicken on each. The sweet potato fries, while grossly under-seasoned, were the only redeeming part of this meal(once I salted them). As I was waiting on my food, I watched an employee slap hamburger patties on a conveyor belt and pick up a plastic fork(that sat on the edge of the conveyor belt) and stab the burgers a few times. The plastic fork was not discarded but placed back on the edge of this machine. The fork was noticeably caked full of raw hamburger residue. I don’t even want to know how long this contaminated fork sat out in the open nor how many burgers it poked during the day. Hill-berts … I love a good mom-n-pop«dive» kind of restaurant … but you were a complete letdown! For the $ 10 I just spent on bones and under-seasoned fries, I’d rather take my money down the road to a(gasp) chain wing joint, where I can actually get some chicken on the bones!

The food that I usually get(wings) are usually good. However I attempted to place a delivery order and the cashier or whoever he was, was extremely rude. Changed my mind real quick! Also will never go back. The one star that I did give was for the food. Not service. Total shocker

Old school charbroiled burger. Pretty good on its own but I asked for bacon and got half a pig on it! YUMYUM. got the chili cheese fries and took a star away for that. The chili jus tastes like a Dr-ed up Hormel chili. Kinda had flavor but no spice what so ever. I saw an employee eat the crispy tacos and they looked really good. All the other patrons here were eating wings. So there is an idea as well.

Just go. The burgers. They call to me. So delicious, The shakes. The fries are meh, but the rings are the thing. The Wings. Nom nom nom nom. Old school. Reminds me of the 70s. Flame broiled you bastards. Flame Broiled. Oh yeah. Best kept secret burgers in Austin. They also serve tacos. Taco that taste like the forgotten quintessential Tex Mex of yesteryear. You wan’t more? THEYDELIVER. THEYWILLDELIVER A GODDAMNBURGERANDWINGSANDTACOSTOYOURHOUSESOYOUCANEATTHEMWITHYOURSTUPIDMOUTHWITHOUTEVERLEAVINGYOURSTUPIDHOUSE. What about hamburger delivery do you not understand? One more word. Nom.

Rarely get to this part of town but always enjoy the food, especially the burgers and garden burgers. Still the friendliest service in town. One suggestion is that the owners and staff might pay more attention to destructive children… those whose parents allow them to run around, pound on things, and knock over things in the restaurant. This makes the dining experience very unpleasant for other patrons. Noisy kids are normal and not a bother to most, at least in a fast food setting, but destructive kids are another matter.

It’s my first time eating here and I ordered a double meat jalapeño bacon cheeseburger with fries and a drink. I’d normally take pictures but that first bite had me hooked and totally forgot to snap a pic all in all I give this place

Glad to see ol’ Hill-Bert’s back open. First visit since the reopening and I got my old favorite. The wings and fries. In all the times I’ve visited Hill-Bert’s at their once various locations, I’ve only had a few things. Milkshakes, fries, onion rings and wing plates. Not together of course, that would be gross… lol So, as I can’t tell you about the burgers, I can tell you that the wings are good money. Get the medium, the hot is a bit too hot for me, and I love spicy food. The onion rings are pretty good, the fries are always in need of salt, but I can work with that. The milkshakes are… milkshakey. I mean, it’s a milkshake, you know what it is. Service was friendly. I did a call in order, and picked up at the drive thru window. If you’re in the hood, check it out.

I went to the recently reopened Cameron Lane location. Burgers weren’t anything to write home about and a few bites in my husband discovered that this burger was completely raw in the middle. And I don’t mean just a little underdone, I mean raw, uncooked meat. I called to let them know, they guy didn’t seem to care and said«sorry for the inconvenience.» Needless to say, we won’t be paying Hill-Bert’s another visit. Go to Whataburger down the street for a better tasting(and fully cooked) burger.

This is an old-fashioned burger joint. The meat is well– grilled, the onion rings are great, and the fries are perfect. They have wifi also so I can read my tablet while I stuff my face. It’s my favorite burger joint in town.

Drive through experience Very simple menu, good prices, and didn’t have to wait too long for a double chili cheese burger, rings and a shake. $ 13 out the door. The food was still warm when I got home, and it was good enough. The burger could have been a little more flavorful, but then it could also have been more expensive. It was perfect for the price point. Onion rings were thin but crispy, and tastier than I expected. Would get again. The shake was a chocolate shake. Nothing else to say here. The service was friendly, and might I say a little too friendly. At the risk of being a grinch, the drive through person was enthusiastic to the point of being off-putting. I’m sure he was going for warm and friendly, but it crossed the line into insincere and almost sarcastic. Otherwise a solid experience.

Haven’t had Hill-Bert’s in a loooong time and it was a winner tonight for dinner. Ordered 16 piece chicken wings with blue cheese dressing freakin’ awesome! Ordered chili cheese fries perfectly layered with enough cheese n chili n the cheeseburger and a small chocolate shake. Shared it with my hunny and we both was full n happy! Best of all I didn’t have to leave my bed since they delivered!

For over a decade plus I have loved this establishment, I am extremely sad that for the first time in almost three decades I believe they are no longer located near my house however still deliver all the way from Cameron to my house, I have never gotten bad service the few times they have ever messed up an order it was fixed quickly, and I have met the owner on several occasions and all he really wants is to serve quality food to good people when I first met him he did a delivery run to my house and then wanted to talk to me for a second because he heard I was a regular and wanted to do a survey on how his business was running and how satisfied I was. I highly recommend it.

We always love to eat here, fries are awesome. Simple, good, and fast. The place could use a bit of organization. Tables are all over the place and you can barely move around. But all in all people are friendly and make the experience pleasant. I will be a faithful customer as long as they don’t change my chicken on wheat.

It’s open again! Having never been to Hill-Bert’s before, I can’t compare this location to the other. Nor do I know was this location was like prior to closing. All I know is this location is clean, has friendly staff, and grills the best dang burgers this side of downtown. Good fries, excellent burgers. Wait wasn’t too bad, considering the crowd. It’s so nice to have a local burger place in this section of town.(Did I mention it’s in a super convenient location?) The SO and I expect to spend more lunches/dinners here.(Next time, we’re getting shakes!)

I called and spoke to a manager. First I asked to speak to one. They guy says«I’m a manager, what do you want?». I am really shocked to hear this«managers» costomer service over the phone. I introduce myself and ask if they can deliver a shiny, new menue to my my nonprofit, so we can refer our guests, he replies, I’m not sure what your asking me. and then I ask for special prices, discount or coupons for them, he refers me to the website and tells me to download them. At this piont I am not so sure I want to refer any one to this shaby costumer service place. So I nicely say Thanks for your help and hang up. My mind has been made up about this place and will not refer anyone here!

I’ll give this place some credit and give it 2 stars for the food. What I ordered was actually tasty. The downside to this place is it’s HORRIBLE service. The cashier was a mumbler and would barely pay attention. Basically if your a beautiful woman the guys in the back will attempt to flirt, anyone else is just a hassle for them. This place kills the desire to eat here by hiring the neighborhood Lazies. Read more reviews of this place and u’ll understand. Your best bet if you really like the food is to just go to the other locations. The Cameron site is no bueno.

Not one, not two nor three, but several bad customer service experiences here. It’s as if they require their employees to have no people skills. My complaints are mostly specific to the Cameron location. The other two aren’t great, but adequate like you’d expect at a burger joint to be. I think that this is the downside to having a family-owned business, that when you can’t get fired you don’t have to care. I try to support local businesses, and I’ve really made an effort not to dislike these guys. But, it’s not like there’s anything«fresh» about their food — unless(like the post before me) you think that«fresh from the frier» counts. The little flat burger patties hardly seem like all-beef. And the fries are… well fried. So, if one can’t count on customer service, then what else is there? Some of my experiences — I was the only one inside, and still ignored by the girl chewing gum behind the counter, while she talked to a friend on the phone. After a while, she put it down and looked at me(no acknowledgement) so I could order. — I went through the drive through, and since I saw no meal deals posted, asked the man if they had any burger meal-deals. Instead of getting answers, the man began asking me abrupt little questions, so that I could customize my question to just the way he liked it, I guess to make his answer as simple on himself as possible. I guess I’m expected to memorize their menu in order to ask them about their menu??? — They’ve NEVER greeted me — no simple hello nor basic welcome. And every now and then, they might actually put forth the effort to verbalize«what can I get for you today». This last time, I decided to go inside, in hopes to receive better customer service than if I just passed through. After standing in line behind a group of friends for about 3 – 4 minutes, I noticed a grown man at another register just staring at me. I guess it was too much effort to acknowledge me or offer service. I shrugged it off, and tried to break the ice by asking him how he was doing. He stared at me blankly for about 3 seconds before sighing, looking at his white paper bag(they like to write their orders down on their to-go bags for some reason), then mumbled«what can I get for you»…So I left forever.

I haven’t been to Hill-Bert’s in a long while. I think they changed the burgers since my last visit. They didn’t taste the same but were still good. The onion rings are fantastic and the shakes are delicious. Overall an A-OK to stop and get a burger and shake.

Better than McDonalds by a longshot, but not as good as most of the other burger shops in town. This unfortunate location also tends to lean to the dirty side of things.

This is NOT a swanky joint(Victor T’s review is pretty spot-on), so don’t get all hoity-toity with expectations of gourmet hamburgers and white glove service. It it what it is: a solid old-school burger joint. My double cheeseburger cost $ 5.24(with tax), though. That’s without a drink or sides. So I don’t know where y’all get off calling this place«cheap.» I may be cheap, but Hill-Bert’s ain’t. I find it a little odd that mayo comes standard on these burgers. I like mayo, but it’s not the default condiment for burgers. And I didn’t see any mustard anywhere. Not that I could use it anyway, what with the mayo already on my burger. I was intrigued to see they have«Dallas Wings» on the menu. I was wondering what in the world that could mean, but(alas) other reviews say it’s simply because they deliver them to Dallas nightclub(where I spent a very uncomfortable hour or so with the Eminem-cum-Garth Brooks crowd about ten years ago …). The mystique is gone.

This is all I have to say: Hill-Bert’s is the equivalent of my father getting really, really drunk and trying to recreate Burger King and messing it up royally.

I last came to Hillberts years ago and loved it. Greasy, good, homemade, flavorful. Well, I just left and let me tell you… this is NOT the same burger! My family trusted my judgment to come here and it was only slightly better than Burger King. $ 4 burger isn’t terrible but don’t go out of your way to try it(Sonic is better)
