Specialties

Inside Books Project is an Austin-based community service volunteer organization that sends free books and educational materials to prisoners in Texas. Volunteering with Inside Books Project can count towards most community service hours.

Inside Books provides the only program to send free books to inmates in Texas, where over 140,000 people are incarcerated.

Inside Books Project works to promote reading, literacy and education among incarcerated individuals and to educate the general public on issues of incarceration.

We receive about 1,200 requests for books from Texas prisoners each month! Come to one of our volunteer sessions to help answer book requests and mail packages of free books to prisoners in Texas.

Inside Books Project hosts regular volunteer hours every Thursday and Sunday night from 7p to 11p and every second Monday of the month from 10a to 2p.
