Billy and his team has done a great job on this place! When the other big liquor stores get too pretentious for you… Go over to j&j and support the small mom and pop shops with friendly service. Thank you for all the great experiences !

I’m glad this place was passed on instead of demolished and absorbed by the hideous hotel being built next door.
Prices are a little high but I will pay for convenience.
Staff is nice enough.

I live in California and needed a gift for a friend visiting Austin. Rachel went above and beyond to put the whole thing together and deliver it to his hotel. I can’t thank you enough and you definitely will by my go-​to (and the hotel’s because they were totally impressed)! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Excellent selection of Texas microbrews & hard liquor for a small shop. Owner super helpful & knows a ton. definitely recommend.

I have been here a few times and always enjoyed it. The owner is super friendly and they have always had the necessary ingredients for what I wanted to make. If I need drink ingredients I always go here! If you go here I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

This place has always been rock solid! Recently the guard changed, and the new owners/​managers are right on point — friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, what more could you ask for from your local booze bodega?

I never knew about this place before the new folks took over, but better late than never, I suppose. The proprietors live in the neighborhood, know their stuff and are very helpful.

I never went to this place before the new owners took over because honestly I never knew it was there. I heard about the re-​launch, saw that it was in my neighborhood and decided to check it out. I like what I’ve read about the new owners, former customers, wanting to continue to offer the friendly neighborhood service they used to get here. They’re off to a great start! It looks like they’ve cleaned it up A LOT, but kept the character. Everyone was friendly, if not a little busy, chatting with customers at the opening event. It was a great welcoming environment and will definitely be a weekly stop for me. The prices seem comparable to other places, and honestly I don’t mind paying an extra few cents for the convenience. Definitely beats a trip out to specs. With all the old places being muscled out or selling out to developers and out-​of-​own interests these days, I’m happy that this place will live on.

These gentlemen are the best. They have totally decent prices on totally decent booze. They are friendly but not in your business, knowledgeable but not ones to pass judgement. I love J&J for my basic whiskey/​whisky/​vodka needs. Nothing fancy here, but your mid-​to-​low-​cost liquor needs will be solidly met at J&J.

J & J … these two gentlemen are responsible for all the fun me and Y had the past weekend in austin. gray goose, a bottle of cabernet, 6 little bottles of club soda and a bunch of limes for $ 35 bucks. just a couple of blocks away from my hotel. awesome way to start a mini-​vacation.

I like Destiny’s review and I don’t think I can improve on it at all. J&J, the snowy-​haired gents, are actually twins, and I like that the TV is always turned to a B&W western. Shootin’ the sh**t with these guys about the different oldtime actors («hey, isn’t that Glenn Ford, the Canadian cowboy?») reminds me of watching Saturday afternoon movies on TV with my dad. Not a great selection of wines and beer (RS foods down the street is better) but they’ve cornered the market on character.

OK so like you already guessed this isn’t a place for a bottle of imported wine or even for filling your (Doctor’s) prescriptions… Their prices include tax btw.
I was in the area heading to the Fun Fun Fun Fest and wanted to stock my room before the party started. These guys had exactly what I needed: middle grade vodka, limes, and a variety of canned juices. They didn’t charge me for the limes and tossed in a baggie of 3 Russian Standard mini’s. The shotgun on the wall was a little different for my Yank perspective but J & J are Southern gentlemen all the way.
I hope to see them again next year!

This is not a drugstore. This is only the most awesome liquor store on the planet. Albeit, J&J by no means has the greatest variety or selection, but it makes up for that with the most quirky aura around. The two owners are snowy-​haired gentlemen behind a bar over which hangs a rifle, a vintage camera, and all manner of interesting objects. They always have the television on, and will happily let you waste time by watching TV with them. They like to give you little free gifts if you go in regularly. Once I came in without my hat in the cold of winter, and they ran back and gave me a baseball cap with a liquor logo to keep my head warm. They attempt to dissuade me from purchasing cigarettes, and they have the coolest stories about the way Austin has changed. So yeah, maybe I can’t buy an amazing bottle of champagne at J&J, but I can buy a decent bottle of whiskey and really enjoy myself. Sometimes that’s all you need.
