Food was decent. Service was terrible. We were a big party of 10+ for lunch. No water refills after the water was brought to the table. One of our group was awaiting the food and it was brought long after other people even though she was before them in the lunch bowl line. She actually got her check before the food, when the male waiter was asked he just said it doesn’t matter, it will be the same either way. When I asked how come bill came before food. He nearly shouted at me saying you guys asked for it. I guess some people in our group asked for the check early to get back to the office, but there is no reason at all to shout. And the waiter messed up the bill for several people even though most of us ordered the lunch bowl.

Sushi was terrible and the regular bbq fare high-priced. Service was barely decent and the location is without life. Strictly a one-time affair for me. Also, the noodles portion was too small. i had high hopes from the other reviews but seems like this place is more of a hit/miss.

I crave Mongolian every once in a while. I love the make your own stir fry bar! It’s the only reason I go. They also have sushi but not a huge fan of that. Their wontons are good too. Service is slow on drinks but that’s fine. It’s low key slow environment, doesn’t bother me. It’s quiet and relaxing.

We tried this place for lunch thinking it would be fun, it wasn’t. It also wasn’t very clean, food had spilled on the bar and no one cleaned it up, and our table was sticky. The food wasn’t very good, they added too much oil to cook it. This place has got plenty of stars, so to each, his own. But we won’t be back.

My first time trying their food was back in 2012. A fellow member of my eatsall international crew and co-worker asked me to meet him there. After eating there I recall how full I was. The next time I went my Wife and I dined there and it was a bit much for her. I have since been there about 3 times total. I love the variety and flavors offered. The dining area is generally clean. No matter when I visited the staff is always nice. I can’t speak on soda because I always opt for water. My most recent trip 3.9.16 I was going to eat elsewhere. However after not eating here for over a year and change I changed course. I got in, seated and went to wash my hands. The lavatory was pretty clean which I appreciate. After getting my water and my bowl I assaulted the options for my bowl. I used sweet and sour sauce, jerk and chicken seasoning. I got seafood, beef and chicken plus sausage. I went on a rampage with the bok choy, peppers, tomatoes, sprouts, cabbage and cilantro. I added a little more seasoning and passed my bowl after choosing the broad noodles. I’m shocked to say that although piping hot, my fod was just okay. I’m used to the fact it’s going to be average but something was missing. I honestly thought I could have made it better at home. In any case I ate most of it. You pay for variety and quality cost so you don’t have a lot here. Because of the quantity though it’s a deal in the sense you have several options. You are only limited by your imagination or discriminating taste buds. It’s most definitely not the worst experience with the place but I have had better. Give it a try but again don’t expect crab like you get from a ream seafood restaurant. Be imaginative and enjoy your food.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here for a while, and are always pleasantly pleased. They have a great selection of meat to choose from varying from crab crabmeat to squid, octopus, chicken pork and even more. The vegetable selection is great as well they have corn, carrots, celery. they also have things like spinach and stuff like that. The downside to this particular grill, is that they give you a recommendation of what spices to put into your bowl. When you go to look for those spices though, 90% of the time they don’t have those spices out instead they have a different variation of things that might or may not be what they are actually talking about. Also they don’t tell you but put very very little pepper into your bowl if you put a lot of pepper your entire bowl will be ruined. I recommend doing it over there fried rice, which is great. As for their sushi and their real menu, I can’t comment on that because we have only ever use the girl

Good ingredient selection. Small bowl. Nice service. Didn’t try sushi. I’d go back again. It was good, not great.

Tried for the first time today. I was a little jazzed about going because I love mongolian bbq. So let’s just walk through this. Nice building and clean inside and out. We were sat immediately and given little silver bowls. Don’t let the size fool you because you can fit a LOT into these bowls. Where the problems started was the bar where you build your bowl. We got there about 20 – 30 minutes after 12 so not to close to the lunch rush but at a reasonable time expected for lunch. There was meat thrown all over the place, vegetables mixed up together, missing spices, and sauces spilled all over the place. I understand that things will get mixed up but at least make an effort to keep things kind of tidy and filled. Our waitress was great. I drink fast and my glass was never empty for more than a minute. The steamed gyozas were a little bland but the dipping sauce helped. We also ordered the Batman roll and it arrived shortly after the gyozas. I like cream cheese but when cream cheese is the only thing you taste then that’s a problem. PRO: Great wait staff, clean building, and large selection of choices. CON: lack of ingredients, questionable sushi making, and bland gyozas. So 3 starts from me and the benefit of the doubt. So I will try again and hope for some improvement.

Mongolian Grill. You can go all out(all you can eat) which is traditional, or go for a single bowl. I’d say the food is standard but the prices are a bit high for what it is. $ 9+tax for a single bowl or $ 11+tax for the all you can eat. You have to be a well seasoned pro to pack and stack your bowl to get anything near a meal if you go for the single bowl. In fact, the way the food cooks down, a single meal is more easily done in 2 bowls. So let’s say you want a meal. You’re going for the $ 11+tax option. OK? Just want to lay that out there. Apart from that, we all know what Mongolian Grill is. Usually there is help from recipe cards or a helpful waitstaff. I do not recall any of those at Kublai Khan. So we were on our own. I did fairly well with what was provided, but I could see an unseasoned rookie messing up quite easily. The horrendous«instructional video» on their website doesn’t quite cut it. Be A KHAN!

The reason to come here is to get the stir fry, with that said here are some tips Yea the bowl they give you is small, however it’s all about the order in which you fill it Get the veggies first Followed by protein Then the powder seasonings My current favorite flavor is Thai chili and terrayaki I have found that one ladel of chili and 2 of the terrayaki is the perfect marriage of spicy heat topped with sweet The servers are excellent The place is clean There is an endless bowl option for an extra $ 4 I can’t seem to get past one bowl This place is excellent

The place is clean. You get a silver bowl and fill it up with raw meat of your choice, chicken, steak, pork, crab, octopus plus many more. Then add your own spices, veggies, pick a sauce then hand it over to the chef and pick a starch(noodles or rices). Then go sit down and have a tea or beer or sake or whatever and they bring you your food. It was fun. You can also order off the menu and they have sushi which I have not yet tried but I’m going to go back a second time for sure.

Being a big fan of Mongolian Grill, I figured their sister restaurant was a safe bet. But I was wrong! The bowls are tiny compared to those at MG. And they don’t let you mix sauces like at MG. Also no bread! Sad… Now that the Mongolian Grill in La Frontera is closed, I have to go all the way out to 183 and Duval for do it yourself stir fry.

My husband and I love coming here whenever we’re visiting, it’s in a good location and they get moderate business, but I mostly like the variety in selection, where my food seems more customisable and the wait staff are always friendly. Feels more authentic than ghengis khan or any other Mongolian restaurant in Austin, but maybe because it’s not a franchise. Anyway, come out and test your food combo skills!

Very reasonably priced for sushi, and good! The bowls are good as well… start backwards with the veggies first then the protein to stack your bowl up! ;)

Service is good. Food is okay. I did not like rice here, feels too sticky for me. Noodles are gone. Vegetarians be careful with what you eat, o found myself s piece of meat from others selection in my bowl once.

It’s your normal Mongolian create your own stir-fry restaurant. The food is good, they had good choices but the line was a disaster. It looked like a toddler threw a tantrum with food. Had someone been around to try and keep the area clean, it would have been five stars. Will come here again.

My favorite sushi place. I absolutely love the batman roll and shrimp tempura roll. I lived in Phoenix for a while and would always miss this place. They have new rolls on this neon sign when you walk in. I have toddlers so I usually order to-go. The staff is friendly and the stir fry station always makes it smell so good.

I only ordered from here because I saw it on grub hub and it was 5 minutes away… Never would have thought the sushi would be so fresh! It’s been hard to find good sushi here in Austin, and I will continue to order from here! Very fresh sushi

I’ve been here several times and i really enjoy it. the $ 10 bowl is great, although to get your money’s worth I’d recommend stacking the veggies first before the meat. The sushi I’ve tried here is the spicy shrimp roll and the fried crawfish roll. The shrimp was good but the crawfish one was just a lump of fried dough, the same they use for the fried ice cream, with a ton of rice and a tiny bit of crawfish and nori. Everything else I’ve tried I really like and I’ll definitely be back here many more times!

I do not think we will be visiting this place again. $ 10.00 for a tiny bowl of stir fry is definitely not worth it. When you start filling your bowl, the bowl is already 75% full by the time you are done with their first stop, the meat section(i.e. unless you literally pick out 2 peices of meat, then you will have enough room for perhaps 4 peices of vegetables). Not worth it in my book. I have definitely had better Mongolian BBQ at other joints.

I liked the food the couple times I went, but had a horrible customer service experience the last time I went. My boss and I stopped in for lunch. We got our stuff to the cooks and almost 20 minutes later my bosses’ food showed up. Long story short, I had to leave and we got charged for my lunch that I never got. I contacted them the next day, they said sorry, we’ll email you a free lunch coupon. Never got that either. Caveat emptor. But, if you get it, the food is good.

Stopped in after a long day of fish catching at Town Lake. No crowd on a Saturday night. The service was immediate and polite. My wife ordered sushi and I went for a bowl. Lots of protein choices that looked and tasted fresh. Veggies were crisp and lots of spice/sauce choices. I was the meathead that didn’t follow the process properly but the chef politely cleaned up my mess and prepared a great bowl. Will definitely go back.

Great stir fry, horrible service! This is by far the best stir fry place in town as far as ingredients vs. Price. The issue is they hire people that don’t understand English. Even the waitress looks at you with a blank stare and nods her head when you ask for something and then just ignores your request. I have asked for water with lemon or lime every time I have come here(14 – 15 times). And I always get water, no lemon or lime. It’s almost funny that it literally happens every time. I split my tip between the cook and server since the cooks are doing all of the work. Note for businesses everywhere: if you have an employee that has to interact with customers, make sure they speak and understand English!

A coworker put me onto this place and I’ve loved it ever since! I’ve gone a few times for lunch and always order the famous«Stir-Fry Bowl.» I haven’t seen it on the menu, but that’s what everyone seems to order and the waiters/waitresses always ask if you want. Don’t fight, just go with it… you will not be disappointed! For about $ 10 bucks, they give you this small silver bowl and direct you towards the buffet-style bar area. The idea is to fill up your bowl with as much veggies & protein as you can before dropping it off at the stir-fry area where they ask you if you want rice(White, Brown, or Fried) or Noodles(Pad Thai, etc). You also get to add your own spices and sauces. I’ve tried both the noodles and rice and its ALL good. I can see myself becoming a regular customer here!

I’d give it 3.5 but erring on the 3 star side at normal prices. Can’t speak for the sushi since I only had stir fry. 4 stars if you have a groupon to use :) Service was friendly… no complaints. Plenty of parking & plenty of seating– good for large groups! But $ 10.99 for a tiny bowl of stir fry is a bit much. HOWEVER, it is possible to get your money’s worth… I learned this AFTER I watched this guy that came in & definitely knew what he was doing. 1) Pile veggies in the bowl first 2) Then PILEONTHEMEAT… since meat is sticky, it’s easier to stack it higher. 3) Get an egg on the side & sauce on the side. If you do the pile-high option, you’ll need 2 ramekins of sauces for it to have flavor. Hubby’s stir fry was pitifully small– he didn’t even try to pile. Mine was a better portion b/c I tried to pile the veggies up… but still not as good as master-pro-guy that went behind me. Recommended carbs: Shanghai noodles– they grill really well with the rest of the stuff– they don’t get too mushy or too hard– tasty with the stir fry. Recommended sauces: Stick with one type of flavor. Example: Kungpao, Garlic sauce, Ginger soy all go well together & would mix well together. Thai peanut sauce & Korean BBQ sauce probably would not. Don’t get all crazy trying to mix different type of sauces or you’ll probably regret it. Freshness of ingredients: Overall everything was pretty fresh. The only things that weren’t were some napa cabbage(brown pieces), calamari(VERYVERY fishy) — minus one star for this b/c I was really looking forward to eating my calamari– but had to avoid them b/c it was that bad, and the shrimp was frozen when I got it. Suprisingly, I liked the seasoned tilapia that I got with my stir fry! It was very tender and flavorful.

I am surprised at all the bad reviews. We went here with a Groupon. I wouldn’t have tried it otherwise because«Crazy Mongolian Grill» sounded weird, but my boyfriend and I were both pleasantly surprised! We shared a bowl of the stir fry. For an extra $ 2 more, I think the unlimited is a good deal(which you obviously can’t do if you are sharing). I didn’t think any of the meats or veggies looked or tasted old or bad and in fact, we both really enjoyed our stir fry. We got chicken, pork, and beef. We also ordered a couple sushi rolls, which we were very pleased with. Nice presentation and a good amount of food for reasonable prices. And they tasted great! They use imitation crab, which you would expect for $ 9 – 11 a roll instead of $ 15, but you can have them substitute real crab for an extra $ 2. The service was good and the restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. The only place they lost a star is with the regular sushi. We ordered some unagi and the pieces of fish were small with a massive amount of rice. My boyfriend also ordered the mackeral and it smelled fishy and didn’t taste very good. I might give it another chance because all the varieties of fish pieces on top of our sushi roll tasted fresh. Overall, we will definitely come here again!
