I am a regular in this place because is near by my house, but i am very disappointed when it comes to buy chicharron con carne it taste awful like days old and re fried several times, the menudo there has never had good taste and compare to the michoacana on riverside they dont make fresh tortillas, the caldo the res is good I like it there but I like at any michoacana. The employees there are disrespectful to each other(the cashier to the kitchen staff) and management need to step it up.

Top 5 Tacos in Austin and in life. Found this place on lunch, working just down Cameron past the highway. There are a lot of taquerias on the east side, but as I was driving at 12:30 on a Thursday most had one, maybe two cars in the parking lot, so I kept going until I found all the cars. They were here, and then so was I. Got 3 tacos, 1.89 each and a Coconut water, place was filled with happy faces, workers, and high school kids. You order your basic meal at the register and pay, she speaks English if you do not speak enough Spanish to order tacos, which is something you have to work at. I had the Al Pastor, the great judge of quality Taco establishments and it was so good I questioned prior life choices, felt a little confused and had to call my wife and apologize. The Lengua, if you have never had tongue you haven’t had anything, ever. This was better than the Pastor, which it is supposed to be. Braised not seared in a tomato chile sauce. Tongue was buttery and textured like pulled pork and chunks of pozole gave it a rich, complex flavor. Pollo Asado(Roast chicken) also amazing, took on the well steeped and pungent(thats a good thing) Pico de Gallo well, light, piquant(aciditic) and smoky. Perfect. The tortillas were maiz(mayeez) and cooked to order, which there is nothing in this world so elegant as a new corn tortilla. They have a perfectly fresh, diverse, and clean salsa bar with Chimchurri, salsa roja, Pico De Gallo, ensalada de Mexico, etc… The taco wizards dance in the back, and dont hesitate. I will be back, probably every day before I leave Austin.

I love la michoacana! This little market is way better than the beer wine tobacco shops that scatter the east side, and the overpriced hipster convenience stores popping up in the area. My husband and I come here often to buy fresh fruit and veggies. The range is a lot smaller than your big Austin supermarkets, but the produce is fresh and prices are low. There is also a great range of Mexican /texmex essentials: fresh tortillas, hot sauces, canned chilli’s, beans, salsas, etc. There is a butcher on site, and fresh baked goods. Again, great prices! La michoacana also has a hot food bar if you want to grab a cheap meal on the run. Who are these racist douches who complain they are served by people with an accent? It is disappointing Unilocal tolerates racist reviews. All the stars to la michoacana!

Answer the phone in Spanish? Fail Not know if your meat is grass fed or not? Fail Say«I don’t know how to answer your question»? Fail Curse in Spanish after I explain the difference of grain fed vs grass fed politely… Major fail. You need to fire the chick that answers the phone. With this invention called the Internet, why o why are people such low life’s when representing a business? Isn’t that the question? They are a butcher shop and don’t even know what grass fed beef is. That’s just pathetic and a showcase of just how shitty quality their meats must be. Shame on all accounts

This is a few businesses in one: a meat market, a grocery, and a cafeteria. The meat market consists of a very large butcher’s counter in the back. I didn’t look closely but one standout item was a huge tub of what looked like child-size deep-fried pork skins. And by child-size I don’t mean sized for a child, I mean the size of toddlers. The grocery is a grocery offering a lot of Mexican goods. The cafeteria is probably why you are thinking of coming here, if you are reading a Unilocal review in English. My friends and I came on the recommendation of an acquaintance who’s lived in Austin for 35 years. He’d noted Michoacana as his favorite place for«Mexican Mexican». We split the following: — A rich, fresh stew of tender beef and corn so cooked and saturated each kernel was the size and shape of a cooked chickpea. — Six tacos. There are a few options for fillings – pulled chicken, beef al pastore, pork in various styles, etc. Most of it is familiar – you’ll find similar items on menus in NYC – but the two I tried, the chicken and the beef, were better than what I’d had anywhere else I can think of. — Some sides. Rice and beans, but also an interesting pepper w/beef hot stew/salad/I have no idea. It was green and looked like cooked pepper with beef. The menu isn’t large but offers a few other things – burritos, platters, etc. There are six or so tables, room for something like 15 people. Note that the cashier speaks English but otherwise the place doesn’t cater to or try to accommodate English-speakers. If this sounds great to you, you’ll love it here. If it doesn’t, just come anyway – if nothing else, the tacos are swell and easy. The menu is in Spanish and the folks behind the counter don’t speak English(at least not the ones we met), but it’s okay, just go to the cashier and order your food. You get a receipt, you bring it to the folks behind the counter and you point to what you want. They have pans full of prepared foods. I can’t claim we fully understood what we were ordering, but we enjoyed everything.

Great place for breakfast tacos. You get a good size taco for the price you pay and the quality is great. Made to order right there on the spot for you to enjoy. Get there decide what you want, order it and pay for it at the cashier and then watch the magic happen. Located on the east side of Austin on 7th street, where you know there is going to be some good authentic Mexican cuisine! While your there check out other foods you might be interested in, it is a little market so they will have fresh veggies and fruits there for you to take with you. Its a bit small but that shouldn’t make a difference in your experience. Enjoy!

I love this store. Always find what I need, and end up making the best tacos in town. Their al pastor is my absolute favorite. And their horchata is delicious and refreshing. You can also eat on the spot for a pretty authentic experience.

I have been married to a Michoacana for 38 years. The great thing to me about this restaurant in a market is that if we have people over we can get a liter of good, authentic Michoacan beans or rice on a moments notice. Same with a quick bite usually. It’s not Tex-Mex food which is good in it’s own right but rather VERY good Mexican home cooking. The fly in the ointment is in the backward, hazard prone payment system. If you are short for time and there is a line at the cash register RUN! You have to first get in line, pay for you plate of choice, get in another line at the food counter and heaven help you if there is a slow person or family in front of you. There was a pair in front of my wife and myself ordering for their family already seated in the restaurant area. There was a prolonged discussion between the two over what to order when they reached the cashier. Then they went to the food counter and the servers/cooks both attended this single table and the nitpicking went on. In the end they had exhausted the items my wife and I had ordered and paid for promptly and so 20 minutes after our arrival all we could do was get in line a third time get a refund and leave. It’s not the first time which is the only reason I bother to write now. Food great! Long line deadly! Be advised!

This is where Tacos are born, live and die. The lovely ladies who make the tacos here KNOW what they’re doing. Fresh as can be from morning till night, they are dong it right, I order about 5 of these bad boys on corn tortillas with cheese onions and cilantro. Go for the Carne Asada or the Al Pastor. The Chicken tings is pretty badass as well. Dont forget to tip the goddesses of Tacos as they will fill your belly right!

After reading the great reviews, my boyfriend and I stopped by. I don’t know what everyone else on Unilocal has been eating, but we had really greasy tacos with strange, crunchy pieces of meat. The flavors weren’t that great, either. We couldn’t even finish them.

I read all the good reviews and thought the tacos would be really good. I was disappointed and here’s why: 1) Everything is pre-made like a cafeteria, which is odd because they have a griddle. 2) You have to pay at the register up front and it seems a bit disjointed(lack of communication, my order was messed up twice before they got it right. I tried an pastor taco and a beef taco. The pastor’s flavor was okay, but it had a very artificial orange color which I have never seen before in any pastor. The beef taco was better, but the meat was a bit dry without any salsa. Price was okay at $ 1.49 a taco, but pre-made food sitting all day in a warmer is not worth the drive.

Forced out of bed early in order to take my mother to work, I decided that I would treat my son and myself to tacos for breakfast this fine Sunday morning. First of all, please remember to pay for your tacos at the register prior to ordering at the taco counter. Anyway, do not pass up the barbacoa taco! Love it with cilantro and onions. :) They are so good, I would go back right now to get more if it didn’t make me a total Fatty McFatterson! If you like to stick to the regular stuff, please know that the«sausage & egg» is more of a hot dog and egg taco. This is always perfect for my son, the picky eater. In fact, today he ate all of the hot dogs out, and he left the egg and tortilla untouched. If you are picking up tacos that need to go to two locations, be sure to let the ladies know ahead of time, because they usually wrap them up all together in one foil. PS-my rating of this establishment is only based on taco purchases. I haven’t ever purchased anything else at this location.

Wife ordered pastor tacos — «con todo?» yes, please include the cilantro and onion. Woman preparing the tacos grabs the bunch of cilantro right from the basket — the cilantro still has the twist tie on them, unwashed — and starts chopping it up and puts it right on the taco! Heads up, unless you got the estomago de burro, avoid this place as unclean. How can you enjoy a taco when your thoughts are of the guy in the field, alternatively scratching his crack and picking the cilantro that has ended up on your taco(without being disinfected)? Stick to the dollar paletas here and the avacados. For tacos, head down the street to Takeria D.F.

Dissapointed that they didnt have lengua(cow tongue, cuz us mexicans/hispanics do not waste anything! Lol) But I got a pork(carnitas) burrito. Oh man, flavor up the wazoo! And Im a man who loves his burritos.

Not all of them are exactly alike(you’ll find one in each little Hispanic community). Everytime I feel homesick, I come here to buy tacos and get some baby conchas(Mexican sweet bread) and stock up on Mexican icecream pops(2 for a $ 1!). The place is a meat market and has some awesome marinated fajitas, if you are ok with the meat not being organic or high grade — the meat is still verry, verry tasty.

Was in Austin looking for memorable Mexican and came upon Michoacana Meat Market in the Unilocal listings. Other reviews gave me the sense that this place had a great combination of sketchy, unique & memorable. I chose correctly. Key’s to remember: Order type of meal 1st(tacos, burritos, etc), pay and then choose meat. Here’s the rundown on the meats: — Chorizo– good but not great — Barbacoa– junk — Desembrada/pulled pork — solid — Pastor– ridiculous On my shortlist when I come back to Austin

Before the other day, I thought I had experienced the best taco in Austin. I stand corrected. I’m reluctant to post this review on Unilocal, because I’d like to keep this place a secret. But the folks who run this market deserve the highest accolades. For the price, you absolutely cannot get a better taco in the capital city of Texas. Besides the cashiers, English is a foreign tongue in the market. One might argue that it speaks to its authenticity. I’ve read the observations of many culinary experts who admonish prospective culinary pursuers to learn Spanish, because it’s the language of the kitchen at many fine restaurants. Either way, I’d at least familiarize yourself with a few basic terms before you head in. The cashiers are helpful though. The variety is great. Barbacoa, pollo, fajita, frijoles, jalapeño y chile relleno, the list goes on. Corn or flour. With rice or without. The topping bar includes cilantro, lime, pico, onion, jalapeño, guacamole, and you can add as much as you like. All for less than $ 1.50 per taco. If any Unilocalers can find a better value in the city, please let me know. I’m glad they don’t advertise. Otherwise everyone would be here. I can’t wait to go back and fill my belly with delicious Mexican ruffage for the cost of the change in my pocket.

Been to a few of their locations, but visited this one recently, hoping to purchase some delicious greasy tacos for cheap. That i did. 2 tacos for about 3.50. Practice your Spanish ordering skills because the lovely ladies at the food counter will not wait for you. My friend and I had another woman in line school us in what was being served. The meats are not labeled, but i don’t think you can go wrong. but if you want extra veggies or cooked jalapeño you’ll have to be specific– otherwise you’ll be pointed to the tiny salsa/toppings bar with raw onions and cilantro… not the same. There’s a small area to dine in, tables covered in red & white checkered vinyl table cloths and roll of paper towels to catch the grease that is sure to be dripping from your mouth. just darling. $ 5 min on credit cards
