History

Established in 1978.

Laurie Smith Design Associates (LSDA) was founded by Laurie R. Smith after she had worked for several years for an international architecture firm and subsequently moved to Austin to serve as a project designer for a large contract furniture dealership. Pete Gasper joined the firm in 1987 as a business development partner. Neel Morton became a joint venture partner in 1999, with the formation of Smith + Morton Architecture.

The firm has received numerous national, regional and local design excellence awards and exposure in print and online publications ranging from Texas Architect, Interior Design Magazine and the World Interior Design Network to the ABA Journal, Health Facilities Management and Hospitality Design. The firm’s work has also been featured on the Fine Living Network and in exhibits at the UT School of Architecture, conventions for the Texas Society of Architects & the Texas Hospital Association and fundraisers for the Charles W. Moore Center for the Study of Place.
