Amy cut and colored my hair for the past year (we only lived in Austin a year) and she is great! I am very picky about the color and length — my bangs have to be just below my brows — and she was perfect every time! I would stay with her if we were still in Austin. She’s wonderful.

Rachael Whynot is my stylist and she’s the best I’ve ever had! She’s talented, she actually listens to what you need, she’s personable and funny, and her head massages are out of this world. I like to dye my hair and she took me from my natural color to red to black to platinum with green to red again effortlessly. Highly recommended!

I met Rachael when she came in to the bar I work at down the street. She gave me her card and after a TERRIBLE experience at Ulta that resulted in over 20 hours in the salon in two weeks and taking me from platinum to orange on the way to platinum (yeah… i don’t get it either), Rachael FIXED ME. She gave me faith in humanity and fixed my broken head so that I would be back to basic white girl status in no time! PRAISE THE LORD.
Add in that she is hilarious, charming, witty, and REAL, and that they were playing Baby Got Back when I came in (BIG BOOTY GIRL ANTHEM YALL), I will DEFINITELY be back for the duration of my living in Austin, no matter what her costs will be or how long it takes to get in. Seriously in love with her!!! THANK YOU LADY! You killed it!

First off, I usually stay with a hair stylist forever… if it is working; That said, it no longer was … So I checked out Unilocal to find a place that was well reviewed, North Central area and Medium priced. (I have SO learned that you get what you pay for…) My stylist is (and will be) Rachael Whynot! I KNOW that I am going to be very sad when it takes Forever for me to get in on her appointment book next time, but she deserves a Great Review so: She took the time to really talk to me about my hair, I brought some pictures and showed her what I hoped for and she verified what would work for my hair type (Thin, blonde and with a slight wave and med. length= too long) I went for a layered all around just above the shoulder cut. She asked about tweaks to the cut and recommended texturizing for lift. I LOVE IT. Furthermore, the shop is very cute, a nice little boutique salon, right off Mopac, just slightly east on Steck and a block up on Shoal Creek… so Very convenient. Loved the shampoo and head massage, also she gave me great advice on a toner shampoo for my hair color, that they didn’t even carry :) so not a «up sell» and she used some on my hair that really took the orange out so all my friends thought she had done color as well :) Lastly I have really never left the salon happy with the «styling» it just is never a way that I would do it or even want to… so it doesn’t look like me when I leave, that said — she styled it and it was amazing! I may actually have to use her when I go out next time…

Amazing work by Katie for hair cut, color, and makeup services! I have baby fine hair and it takes someone very talented to cut and color my type of hair. Katie is very knowledgeable about the latest in hair trends and color services.

Alexandria is a fantastic stylist! I am so excited that she has moved more north Austin. Very professional. Highly recommended!

This review is for Alexandria. To begin she is a phenomenal stylist and is a genuinely sweet person. She was willing to work with my crazy schedule and made my time in the salon with her feel incredibly personal. She dealt with my indecisiveness and ultimately gave me the exact cut and color I had envisioned. Her prices are reasonable and she doesn’t push any products or add ons. This review could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it up… JUST GO SEE HER! She’s awesome and won’t let you leave feeling anything other than BEAUTIFUL!

Was visiting Austin and needed to get a haircut. I was referred to Katie Astoria at LightenUp and got an amazing haircut. She gave me a great shorter cut that is easy to maintain.
We also talked about highlights but she mentioned it would be difficult to maintain with my hair color so I opted against it and appreciate the honest feedback.
She also did a brief lesson about how to style my hair with some of the products I already own.

Amy B has been my stylist for years. Not only is she amazing with color and cuts, she is one of the kindest and most sincere people I know. Love her to pieces.

Jenn Grebe always does a great job cutting my hair. She is a good listener and consistent in her quality. I don’t feel rushed like other stylists I’ve had in the past. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good hair experience. The salon has a nice vibe too… thanks Jenn!

Janine and team at Lighten Up are nothing short of professional. They’ve spared no expense on the salon. It is clean, bright and very comfortable. They are color experts staying hip to the latest and greatest products available. Amy B does an awesome Keratin treatment that will leave any type of hair begging for more. Jill gives a mean facial and can tame the wildest of brows! Check them out!

Jennifir K is an amazing stylist! She’s talented, sweet, caring and does a fantastic job with my thin, lifeless hair. The highlights and cut turned my hair into Bombshell hair! I had no idea my hair was capable of volume! Also she’s very creative, I love seeing all the colors she dyes her own pixie-​like hair with. This month, pastel pink! Tempted to add the same. She can do it all! From sexy or sophisticated to edgy and trendy. It’s hard to find a stylist that listens to you and does an even better job than You expected. I will definitely be coming back!
