If you are looking for a good fade, LJ Barbershop is the place to go. I have visited many Austin shops over the years, gotten good and bad haircuts, dealt with competent and flakey barbers, and visited designer and nefarious shops. Overall, I was disappointed with Austin’s professional«fade» offerings. I am grateful I stumbled upon LJ Barbershop Unilocal reviews because the shop’s business is due to word-of-mouth and not overzealous advertising. Since January 2013, I have visited the shop, and each time, impressed by the consistent professionalism and the resulting fade. The shop is owned by LJ and her husband, and two other barbers now work there. LJ is a no-frills, simple, cash-only, closed-on-Tuesdays shop with savvy and skilled barbers who are fade perfectionist, meticulously checking and rechecking the under-$ 20 fade after the work is done.
Visit LJ Barbershop and you won’t be disappointed.

You just never know what you are going to get with this place. The experience wildly varies. The original two barbers who I believe are a couple cut hair well. Occasionally they have other folks who cut hair or do something a drunk Edward scissorhands might do. If you like gambling, come on in and test your luck.

Solid no frills barber shop. They definitely are a fade oriented place but that’s kind of what i do. I have straight hair and got the top trimmed pretty well too. Took 20 min. No wait on Sunday AM. $ 14. Prob cheaper than most places, but not so cheap you wonder about the hygiene(like the $ 6 cut I got by the 183 target).

I had the misfortune of getting a walk-in haircut at this place after eating at a nearby restaurant. The first sign of trouble was that despite two other people waiting, no one was actually manning the chairs. One of the other patrons had to inform me that the proprietors were«on break». It struck me as somewhat unprofessional for both barbers to be on simultaneous breaks while customers waited. However, this is minor compared to what would happen next. After about 15 minutes a man and a woman emerged from the back. Eventually I was invited into the woman’s chair. I requested a «standard haircut, not too short». In response, the lady barber stared at me with what can only be described as a bovine expression. Thinking perhaps there was a language barrier, I repeated my request slowly. Again the profoundly confused stare. I tried to provide additional, more specific instructions, but the confused facial expression continued. My instincts told me to get up out of the chair and walk out the door, but I was in denial that someone employed at a barbershop could fundamentally misunderstand the concept of an ordinary haircut. I should have listened to my instincts. This incompetent barber continued to give me the worst haircut of my life. She attempted to do some strange things like cut really close around my ears, but leave most of the hair on top, producing a kind of mushroom effect. She left a disproportionate amount of hair in the back for some reason, even though I specifically requested tapering. To this date I still cannot understand how someone can work for a barbershop, but have absolutely no clue about a standard haircut. The next day I went to a proper barber, who was just us puzzled at the strange workmanship of the incompetent lady. I should add that I can’t speak for the male barber, I noticed the other two patrons gravitated towards him, perhaps he is better, but the woman was absolutely horrible. I don’t like giving local businesses a bad review, but this one is very much deserved.

Wish I would have found this place sooner. For a year and a half I went all over town to every over priced barber shop/beauty salon I could find in search of a decent fade, failing miserably in every attempt, before I finally stumbled upon this gem by chance. It’s a bit out of the way and they only accept cash, but that’s a small price to pay for knowing you’ve got a clean fade. Speaking of small price, did I mention the cuts were cheap? No? Well they are. You can spend upwards of 25 bucks at other places with a fraction of the fade giving ability, or you can hit this spot up with less than 20, get a cut, give a tip, and still have change. Not to mention the staff is friendly as can be.

I read the previous poster’s review and decided to give it a try. I told the barber what I wanted, and 15 minutes later I had just what I asked for. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who likes a bald fade! Cash only, so be sure to stop by the ATM first.

Since my move to Austin, I have searched far and wide for a Barber who knows how to give a proper fade(no LINES) and is consistent in doing so. So while I was waiting for my To-Go order from Kim Phung, I noticed that there was a Barber Shop right next door. The thing that caught my attention was the advertisement of a variety of hair cuts, which included«BALDFADES». At that moment, I knew that I had to give it a shot and it just so happened that I needed a haircut. After I told the Barber what I wanted, he worked his magic for about twenty minutes and I walked out of there a happy camper. I have had four cuts there since then and I have yet to be disappointed. The only complaint that I have as of right now is that they only take cash, but other than that, you will come out looking good.
