Fantastic service, very knowledgable owner and staff. They will go out of their way to give you exactly what you need and want for any type of biking experience! I will never buy a bike anywhere else again! Thank you Monkey Wrench-I love my Pure Fix!

this shop is close to us which is originally why we sought them out for some minor bike repairs(spoke replacements, etc) and routine tune-up/service since 2012. to be honest, the level of service and support you get for the price is beyond words. the other 5 star reviews are not a surprise to me. i’ll continue to seek out Monkey Wrench first over other shops in town for fast, friendly and affordable bike service.

The employees are very friendly, and their prices for tune-ups are very competitive, I can’t complain! I will definitely be back.

if I could give Monkey Wrench more than 5 stars, I would. A few weeks ago I walked into Monkey Wrench and tried out a few bikes, and over the next week or two, I came back in to try different bikes. There was never any pressure to buy anything, they were just incredibly helpful and talked me through each of the bikes. I’m a bike newbie so they explained all the jargon. Bought the bike, and a few things weren’t quite to my specification, so they adjusted everything free of charge. The pricing on everything is beyond fair, and if you get a bike there, you get a big discount on anything else you buy. All in all, if you need a bicycle in Austin, go here. other stores in Austin should take note on how nice and helpful the guys here are.

I came in with a problem with my brakes and my gears. Turned out the problem with my gears was that I didn’t know how to use them. They didn’t care I was a total newbie, were very helpful, fixed everything in less than an hour and showed me how to actually use my bike =D In short, it’s rare to have a bicycle shop that don’t look down on people who don’t know shit about bikes, or don’t try to make them pay twice as much. It’s even rarer when the people are actually nice, and teach you something. This is a place like this =)

Went biking at Town Lake and broke a spoke. Came in to have my spoke replaced before heading back to San Antonio. They fixed it in under an hour! Excellent customer service! Will definitely be back if I need anything next time I’m in Austin!

Awesome shop! I just got into town for a couple weeks for work and they set me up with everything I need to enjoy Austin by bike. Rented me a nice bike, helmet, lock, lights, the works.

Great bike shop experience. They embrased my bike problems as if they were their own and helped me solve them rather than just asking what I wanted them to do. Very happy with my bike again.

Best purchase experience I have ever had! They took the time to make sure the bike fit me perfectly and that I had exactly what I needed. They truly care about their customers and are NOT pushy sales focused at all! There prices are great and even customized a few things for me at no extra charge. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great bike purchase experience!

New to bikeing world. I have been to a few other bike shops in town. But this one is Top Notch! The staff was very helpful with all my needs. The owner took the time, to answer all 2 ½ hours of my questions… Never felt any pressure to buy. I did find a bike that I’m looking forward to picking up real soon, from Monkey Wrench. Fair prices! Friendly helpful staff! What’s not to like??? 5STARS!!!

Great lil neighborhood shop. They have everything you need. Even a good selection of Chrome bags and shoes. Also a nice selection of bikes and accessories. Once in a while on Friday you can come chat with Joe and the crew over a free beer. Closed on Mondays. Thanks for being in the hood

Very helpful and knowledgable. I haven’t been riding for long but never felt intimidated or confused as they explained things. Joe seems very easy going and really knows what he is talking about. Pretty affordable already but especially with a nice sale they had running in January. I had a new rack installed and bought some bags(cheaper than amazon), and will likely return for tune ups and other parts as their prices and service seem like a great deal.

Straight talk, no douchey bike dude attitudes, and good quality stuff. I brought my frame in to be built back up in a kind of unconventional way, and Joe went over all my options exhaustively. He never once talked down to me(something that happens to women at soooo many other shops) and never tried to up-sell me, either. I should be picking up my bike tomorrow, and I feel 100% conduct that the work will be solid.

Can’t say enough good things about this shop, so I’ll keep it short. Great work. Great service. Great prices. Great staff. Never go anywhere else. I’ve never bought a new bike here, but I have bought a $ 200 wheel set; the level of after purchase service is phenomenal. I’m no gear head and I’ve never felt talked down to here, unlike other places I’ve peddled to.

I have been to almost all of the bike shops in town for some reason or other and Monkey Wrench is definitely one of my favorites. I stopped in a few times for little things like lights, and they were always so kind and helpful, even the time I just came in to mooch some free little thingies to attach a rack to a bike without braze ons. Each time I noticed they were helping someone out who was really new to bikes, or doing something on the house for people. When it was time to make some big upgrades to my vintage touring bike, I trusted Monkey Wrench to help me and it turned out great. Val spent somewhere around an hour answering my initial questions. As someone who tries to do as much of my own maintenance as possible, I wanted to be really certain about what we would be doing to my bike and she was very patient and helpful. When my parts came in Val let me watch/help with the work, which I definitely would not have felt comfortable even asking to do in most other shops. She walked me through everything and I learned so much. That was awesome. Everything needed to upgrade my bike(I switched from friction stem shifters to indexed bar-end shifters) turned out to be prettttyyyy expensive, but Joe and Val worked with me to get the price down to something manageable. So badass! This little shop is where its at. In addition to lights, locks, helmets and the basic stuff, the bikes they sell are mostly cool, simple fixed gears/single speeds. I actually ran in to Joe while we were both on bikes all the way across town before TNSR last week, and I got to gush to him about how great my upgraded bike feels. It was totally serendipitous. This shop is very special!

This place is the best. I’m new to bicycle commuting, and they treated me much nicer than I would expect from a small shop. I had some shifting issues on my new bike. Brought it in and the mechanic immediately took a look at it. She adjusted the dérailleur and a few other minor tweaks in about 10 minutes and since then it has run as smooth as butter. All for just $ 5. She also gave me a lot of advice that has been really helpful as a noob. I never felt like she was being condescending when explaining some really simple stuff. I’ll never go anywhere else. I’m glad this place exists.

I wish there were a six star rating. I stopped by today to get a chain. The mechanic(I wish I’d asked her name) brought me back to the work area and spent ten minutes with me showing me how to select the proper length for my chain. The owner is a jolly fellow and I spent some time talking bicycles with him. Just a good atmosphere, friendly, unassuming, professional people.

I’m a pretend bike rider. See, I got this bike like 5 years ago. I’ve probably ridden it 30 times but each time I feel kind of like a badass. The guy who sold it to me told me it was a super sweet bike. Now, who knows whether that’s the truth… certainly not me… but I like it. AND I put a big cushy seat on it so it doesnt hurt my hoo ha. Said bike remains dormant during the summer since it’s 1000 degrees outside and so when fall comes around and I wanna wheel down the street in my helmet and knee pads, I get a little nervous that something’s rusted or the chains are off or some other such nonsense. I took my bike to Monkey Wrench based on the reviews of these fine Unilocalers and Mr. MonkeyWrench himself(Joe) took a look at my bicicleta, declared it good to go in a day and charged me $ 10 for his efforts. He didn’t try to upsell me, tell me that I needed new whatsamahoozits or thingamajosies. He just said my bike was in great shape and then taught me how to strap it on my bike rack. They’re awesome, local, nice, efficient, and as far as I can tell, cheap. (They’re also kind of hidden so if you’re headed there, know that they’re in the same shopping center as Half Price Books and Goodwill… but around the back, facing Guadalupe.)
