Motherwit Midwifery

I just can’t tell you how honored I am to be writing the first of what I am sure will be many amazing reviews for this midwife. We met Scottie for the first time in September 2009 at the birth of our first child. My midwife’s apprentice was out of the state visiting family, so she brought Scottie along as a second pair of hands. She offered a wonderful, warm energy that I never could forget.
Fast forward 15 months, and a second positive pregnancy test! We hired Scottie to attend the birth of our second daughter, who arrived on August 26, 2011. For eight months, she provided exceptional prenatal care, with each of our meetings occurring in our home, or even at our business when we were unable to break away. She was patient and kind and caring, and grew to be something like a part of our family. I looked forward to our monthly, biweekly, and finally our weekly visits with great anticipation. She reassured me when I was sure I was losing my mind, and was a huge emotional support during times my husband simply couldn’t understand what I was going through.
I’m sure I couldn’t have been the easiest client to deal with. She handled each of my hundreds of questions and requests with great patience and poise. I entered my second pregnancy with a specific vision of how I wanted to birth this new life. I didn’t just want to birth at home, but I wanted a REAL birth — void of any unnecessary interruptions (and my definition of necessary and that of most others are vastly different) and where I was in control, where I was calling the shots, not the other way around. I needed someone who could have as much trust in my body as I did, and I found that in Scottie. That’s not to say that she isn’t or can’t be a wonderfully hands on and involved midwife — if that’s what you’re looking for. She absolutely can and would. But I wanted a midwife in the truest sense of the word — someone to be «with woman», nothing more. I’m happy to say, my second birth went exactly as I would have hoped, and I am eternally grateful to her for making that possible.
