Mud Puppies – South

I’ve been bringing my bichon poodle here for grooming services for a couple years now and could not be more pleased. Everyone is always so nice and they are super efficient. Typically if I drop my dog off he is ready within 2 – 3 hours which is great because my dog gets anxiety being made to wait around with so many dogs barking around him, etc. Prices are also reasonable and the place has an easy to find location and is always clean. Definitely recommend for grooming!

Our two furbabies love mud puppies! We have used the self-​service dog wash stations, the play are, and the grooming. The dog wash stations are supplied with everything you need for a quick clean. Our dogs always come back happy and looking great from play care and grooming! The staff really loves our furbabies!

Love this place! My dog would never get out of the car to get groomed at pet smart, even though they did a good job just always made me worried when I dropped her off. Then I found this place last year and she loves it and no hesitation at all! Thank you to the staff! Me and Karma love it here! And she gets these cute little scarfs

I like this place but not sure if I can trust them? The staff are very friendly and the location is very convenient in another hand they charge $ 30 plus tax for an orientation day to observe if your dog behave ok… Which is fine totally understand (its free in other places) so I took my dog for an orientation. I picked him up in the afternoon and they didnt say anything? So I asked? their answer was «Oh he did ok» ??? I thought they will tell you more? like he is a great or a bad dog? we can or can not accept him? some feedback from his orientation!!! Well fine. I guess I just paid for a day care. I had taking him there several times just because is so close to my house but every time I pick him up he has to do his potty business. He is well potty train and I feel bad who knows how long he is been holding it? I boarded him there before and I put extra food and I gave specification… he take his time to eat. They didnt gave me any food back next day. They told me he ate it all??? very weird??? and as soon we got home we just went to his bowl to eat??? So Im not sure if I can trust them… Its a great place with friendly staff but my poor dog holding his bathroom time and hungry after his overnight there??? Not sure what to think :/

I have a very large, 90 pound German shepherd puppy. And I say puppy because although he just turned four he is absolutely ALL PUPPY.
I get him groomed at least once a month due to his two coats. I take him in with a whole lot of hair. And I mean really… You can’t touch him without him shedding.
Mud puppies does such an incredible job every single time. And not only are they phenomenal in all their work (cut, trimmed, bathed and dried, teeth cleaned and nails cut) but they do it all in a timely manner. It takes approx 3 hours for them to finish up with my dog and they’ll call hush to let me know he’s ready whenever j am. And by that, they give you up to two hours time to pick up your dog before charging like $ 10 or something. Love it all!
Staff if friendly, they do a great job with their services, the environment is clean and safe and even my puppy loves it! No complaints at all.

My dog absolutely loves to play with other dogs but does have toy aggression when other dogs are trying to step into his territory. I met one of the owners at a dog expo my apartment complex was having and she was extremely helpful and laid out all the rules they abide by which included having no toys in the yard when all the dogs are together. This was a breath of fresh air for me as this finally seemed like a dog boarding and play facility where I could take my dog without issue.
He has been to Mud Puppies for playcare to wear him out during the week as well as for extended stays while I have work obligations in other cities where he has stayed for an entire week and always comes back happy and dirty from having so much fun. Each time we pull into the parking lot he gets so excited about being back and can’t wait to jump out of my truck. We’ve been to other playcare facilities and he has come back beat up and bruised but never once has Mud Puppies been detrimental to him. The staff always loves him and everyone truly seems to care about dogs instead of just simply ushering them to the back to ‘deal’ with the dogs throughout the day.
Some of the other reviewers mentioned that their dogs come back skinny, but if you understand they are running around all day they’ll need a little more food intake to stay the same size. I’ve upped his food intake by a ¼ a cup so he doesn’t lose quite as much weight. Overall i’m so thankful to have found this place even if it is a few dollars more expensive than other places because you truly get what you pay for.

The ladies were perfect w Cali and said she did great … They explained what and how and I appreciated that a lot! Life changing to have this in my neighborhood where we can go regularly and keep my princess manicured and clean!

They were amazing! To start, when I scheduled my appointment they simply asked where my dog had vaccinations so they could call to get the records. We had taken my dog camping the weekend before, and she was covered in burrs/​stickers. She also had multiple big mattes in her hair. Allyson, our groomer, took a lot of time listening to me about exactly how I wanted her cut. When I picked her up, she was the happiest and most relaxed that I’ve ever seen her after grooming (she usually is kind of upset after). Our experience with Allyson as our groomer at Mud Puppies was amazing, and we will surely be going back for next time!

I have 2 fur babies and most apartment complexes I have lived at here in Austin do not have any kind of doggie washing stations (that’s a note for you big developers!!!). My dogs are often the rebels and love to go doggy-​bogging (e.g. finding the biggest, wettest, muddiest puddle of them all and rolling around in it until they are covered from head to toe in nothing but mud and completely unrecognizable).
So then off to the washers they go. My favorite place is Mud Puppies because they have a dual bathtub option for the do-​it-​yourself wash so my boyfriend and I can each take a dog and a tub in the same room. It’s fantastic.
They give you a bucket with a towel to dry your pup directly after to to a pre-​dry down, a larger towel to dry them off better, 2 brushes (a wire one for the hair to brush their coat before and after the bath and the other to massage them with the soap to get most of the hair off), shampoo and doggie cologne. There are also dryers at each station.
The staff is super friendly and the place is clean. They are more than happy to oblige if you need extra towels, which I often do with two large pups.
They have food, toys and treats you can also purchase.
The only reason not for 5 stars? The wire brushes aren’t that great, so I usually bring my own furminator with me to really get my pups good and de-​haired.
I would recommend Mud Puppies if you’d like to bathe your pups yourself. It’s quick, convenient and decently priced. It usually costs $ 32 for both of my pups and when you consider the fact that you’re not doing it in your own tub at home, it makes the price worth it. Plus, you get the doggie cologne which lasts a really long time so your pups smell so fresh and so clean, clean for a while!

The self serve dog wash is very clean and enclosed. Edward was very helpful. Our first dog wash experience was fantastic! We will be back!

Very convenient and clean! You don’t have to rush washing your dog here since there are multiple wash stations.

This is a review for their self-​service dog washing stations only! It’s the only service of theirs I’ve used, and I have used it probably about 8 times. First of all, I love their staff. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful, and they deserve five stars in my book. And I love their semi-​private dog washing rooms. The tubs are raised, which is great news for my back. They provide a nice bucket of tools (shampoo, a couple of different kinds of brushes, a couple of towels, etc.) and a vinyl (I think?) apron to keep you dry while getting to work on your dirty pup.
Overall, I have only two complaints. Number one is the hose. It’s like a power washer. The force of the spray hurts me, so I can only imagine how it feels for my dog who is not stoked to be getting a bath in the first place. There’s no setting control, so you have to carefully press the handle to get it to work at about half-​force. It’s kind of a pain.
Number two is the shampoo they provide. This doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the hose, but I think it’s worth mentioning. The shampoo provided seems to be so watered down that I find I’m using a TON of it to get my ~40 lb. dog clean. I’m paying $ 15 for use of the room, at least provide some decent shampoo that can get the job done without using half the bottle!

I would highly recommend taking your pets to another groomer. They have shown to me on multiple occasions that they do not care for the customer or your pet.
I took Kase in for his second grooming appt at mud puppies south Austin location. When picking him up it didn’t seem like much was done. I contacted the store and spoke with the Co-​founder Edward who mentioned that the groomer that worked with Kase was not very good and he would cover the charge to get him fixed by another groomer. When I came to MudPuppies to pick up Kase from his appt to get fixed I was given a lot of trouble by shirley the manager and she demanded that I pay for the appt or else I could not have my dog back and i would be charged for boarding as well. I kept telling her that this was an appt to get him properly groomed since the last groomer did a terrible job. After 30 min of arguing with the lady she finally connected with Edward who agreed to covering the cost and she said I was «good to go» without even apologing
Edward also mentioned during our conversation that he would discount my next grooming. So on 1÷13÷15 I bring Kase in against everyones recommendation for another grooming session. As I am driving in to pick him up I let them know that I was told I would get a discount for this grooming and to talk to Edward to figure things out before I get there. I had to do this in order to avoid any confrontation at the store again as Shirely was the manager there that day. I was told over the phone that she had it written down and it was going to be a 15% discount. When I arrive at the location Shirley is at the desk and the first thing she says is «there was a error in communication» she went on to describe how she was not going to give me the discount since I had previously made an appt the week before and did not show for it. I did not fight it, i simply said ok and paid my bill. My intention was to find another groomer and call it quits with MudPuppies.
The grooming itself at first glance looked just fine and I took Kase home. He started to whine and cry while shaking his head and rolling on the ground trying to get at his ears. He wouldn’t even let me near them which is a rare thing on its own. Once I finally got close and was able to see his ears they were red and inflamed. I called the Vet and setup an appt to get it fixed as it was clearly bothering him.
I called MudPuppies in the morning and expressed my concern to Edward about everything I have had to go through with MudPuppies and that this topped the list. For my dog to come back in pain and agony is extremely uncalled for and there is no good reason for it. I told him I would call back once i got the results from the Vet.
The Vet called and agreed that the dog was in a lot of pain due to his ears and that it was a result of the grooming session. She was sending me home with some ointment and wanted to follow up with Kase in a few days.
I called Edward and repeated the results to him and explained that it was fair for him to cover my Vet bill and refund me for the grooming visit as none of this would have happened if the grooming visit was done correctly. He said he would not do anything but offer me $ 10 off my next grooming visit. I expressed to him that would not be an adequate offer as I want nothing to do with MudPuppies ever again. He expressed to me that he would only do the $ 10 off my next grooming and I could call him back if I wanted to accept and then hung up on me!

I want all readers to know that my above review on Unilocal is not for a discount but yet to help other dog owners know how much Mud Puppies does not care for their animals based on my personal experience. I love and care for my animal like my own child and would hate to hear that anyone went through the same experience. Its shameful that someone would hurt a defenseless animal for any reason let alone carelessness. My choice is to never step foot into a Mud Puppies again for the sake of my own animal not my pocketbook.

I absolutely love this place, the staff is very friendly, and helpful. We’ve been here twice already and we definitely keep coming back. They cut my 8 moths schnoodle’s hair they way we like. And he looks really happy afterwards. He looks absolutely cute. Great job.

Mud Puppies provides excellent customer service, and their entire staff cares so much about our pets! I am very happy with how well they treated our dog — she came looking sparkling after her bath! Highly recommended.

I’ve had to board my little dog a couple if times and they are do friendly when I call to check in on him. He always comes home exhausted and I think it’s precious that he went to a birthday party for another pup while in play care.
Highly recommend MP over major retailers for boarding. The play care /​boarding value far exceeds other places I considered for boarding.

This is the first time i’ve owned a dog that needed regular hair cuts. So I have been shopping around town trying to find the best groomers for the price, location, and for his temperament. I am happy to say we tried Mud Puppies yesterday for the first time, and we’ve found my new «go to» groomers for my dog!
My dog is not aggressive, but he’s a shelter dog and is notorious for being wiggly during grooming appointments. Other groomers I’ve taken him to have had issues with cutting his face hair because of this, they’re too afraid to cut his face hair in fear of nicking his eye. One groomer even said they refused to cut his face hair in the future. And with my dog, his face is what needs the grooming the most (he is a silky so has long facial hair).
My dog was nervous coming into the groomers, but left with a wagging tail! I am pretty sure this was the lease stressed out he’s been at the groomers or after, I am pinning his lack of stress to the fact that each dog has their own room so they’re not scared watching other dogs get groomed at the same time. And the groomers had no issue cutting his face hair, evidently this was the only time he wasn’t wiggly!
The facility is nice and a calming environment for dogs who are scared of the groomers. The groomer walked to the front of the store and discussed with me thoroughly my idea of how I wanted to cut his hair and offered professional advice, which not every groomers does. This establishment was also cheaper than other groomers i’ve been too, and my dog left with an adorable home made looking christmas bow. They were on time with the appointments and everything too, super reliable.
Bottom of the line: I will be back. If you want an affordable, worry-​free, stress-​free groomers for your dog, then this is the place for you!

I took my puppy, Remy, there to get groomed for the first time (he got a bath, ear plucking, booty and nails). He came back looking so great! He was so fluffy and cute! And he smelled great! He seemed to really like the place and came out being happy. Great overall. Good price, great service, the staff are all so sweet.

So today we took our darling Remy to the park after the flooding and the attached picture is a result. It was 630 and he was completely covered from head to toe in mud, so we rushed over to Mud Puppies — to use the self-​serve dog wash. It was my first time using it, and I cannot say enough good things! The staff was friendly even though we were getting there almost at closing, and it was very convenient and worth the 16.25! Love it!

Remy got his haircut for the first time today! And he looks so cute! I love the staff there and he is always so happy after he leaves. Highly recommend!

Remy has been going to playcare for one full month now, and he loves it! He loves it. Every time that I say «mud puppies» he freaks out and starts barking because he is so excited to go. And the best part is that when I go to pick him up in the evening, he is pooped!!! My dog is very high energy, so the fact that after mud puppies playcare he sleeps the entire rest of the night is a miracle.

I cannot say enough good things about Christina. She always does his haircuts and shampoos and she is super duper sweet and always does a wonderful job. Remington loves her. Definitely ask for her!
