Nomadic Notions is one of the most comprehensive bead retail stores in Texas. Our mission was to provide a concept store that allowed customers to create their own jewelry. Our amazing sales staff can help someone construct a necklace, bracelet, earrings, or whatever their imagination might dream up, right there in the store. We also offer a wide variety of both day and evening classes!

We offer our customers over 1 million types of beads and findings from more than 20 different countries. We have a huge selection of beading supplies, jewelry-​making tools, and craft bead books. In addition to beads, we carry a complete line of finished jewelry and hand-​crafted gift items from around the world.

At Nomadic Notions, there is always a creative and knowledgeable «Nomad» (salesperson) available to answer any question and to help you with your beading projects. Our Nomads teach inspirational beading classes, throw fun bead parties, and offer custom design and repair services.

History

Established in 1989.

Nomadic Notions was founded by Robert Corbin in 1989. It has grown over the past 19 years to become one of the most comprehensive bead retail store in Texas, and at one point, he had as many as five stores scattered across Texas and Tennessee.

We have traveled the world to bring our customers a collection of beads that now spans 30 different countries and over 10,000 types of beads and clasps. In addition to beads, we also carry silver jewelry and hand-​crafted gifts from Bali, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Nepal, and the United States.

Mission: Our company was founded on the idea that the art of beading is a global link to all cultures, and our goal is to be more than just a retail store, but to be your link to a variety of beads and ethnic curiosities from around the globe.

Business Owner

Robert Corbin is a world-​traveler and plant enthusiast, and recently discovered a new type of plant right here in Austin, TX! He initially founded Nomadic Notions as an import store featuring gift items from around the world, but it has since then gravitated more toward beads, findings, and jewelry.

I have been to nomadic notion several times and they always have given me a great service. The prices are incredibly low and their customer service is very good. They usually help me to do any small repairs right on the spot without any wait. I’m very satisfied

The selection is incredible. It is rare for me not to find exactly what I’m looking for in the exact color and size I need.
There have been a few times, few and far between, that I encountered a staffer that was marginally unpleasant. I passed it off as someone who was either new, had very little retail experience or a combination of the two.
I’ve taken some classes here and those were great. The instructors really know their stuff, there’s no pressure to buy anything, and you get a significant discount on any items you do buy even if it’s stuff unrelated to the class you’re taking.

What I appreciated most about my visit to Nomadic Notions was the good customer service and positive atmosphere. This place has a good vibe to it. The people who work there seem genuinely into jewelry and jewelry supplies and they clearly make their own jewelry which is a plus. The selection is not huge, but I found some unusual items which is always my main motivation when supply hunting. Regularly priced items may be a bit high, but they have great sales and discounts. If you stick to the sales, you will get unique and interesting jewelry supplies at a very good price. The shop is small but well organized. The staff were helpful but did not hover. I overheard a staff member (perhaps the owner?) helping a woman find supplies for a specific project so if you need any help, just ask.

Nomadic Notions is a nice little North Austin bead store with a vast selection of beads, supplies, findings, and helpful friendly employees. They also offer a fairly decent wholesale discount to those in the jewelry biz with no hassles. I haven’t taken a class here in years, actually since Mick and Lisa Crowder were teaching here, so that should say something about the caliber of their teachers — top notch. Their prices are a bit higher than other stores, but the quality is very good. It’s tucked away in a little corner of a strip center off Anderson Lane… easy to find.

Luckily, this place is far from where I live or there would be Danger!!!
They also have ten percent off Tuesdays and classes… I am as excited and scared as Jessie Spano on caffeine pills about those classes.

I love this place!
First time you go set aside a good chunk of time just to look at everything. My sister and I went in search of some light blue beads to replace white ones on my wedding dress and stayed for three hours! The staff are so nice and friendly, Tina didn’t just point at corner when I asked for moonstone she actually talked to us about the beads and what we were looking for. We decided to stay and make something which is so much fun and the beads are reasonably priced. Jessica helped us out our designs together and did and excellent job. They were so nice even though we were in the store right up until they closed. I am going back to get not only my dress beads but I think I will go there to make my wedding jewelry. If you are a creative person you will love all the options. I highly recommend spending a couple of hours making jewelry.

After visiting the Sea of Beads, I headed over to Nomadic Notions in search of something in particular. While they didn’t have what I was looking for, they were very helpful and very friendly. Their shop is small but loaded with semi precious stones/​beads. I really love looking at all the pretty shapes and sizes. A plus is that they have a very tiny play area to keep the kiddos busy while you shop. SMART!
I’d go back.

I’ve loved Nomadic Notions for a good 20 years now. I love exploring the treasures of beads in the plastic drawers. I love making cute earrings with semi-​precious stones for so much less than it costs to buy them. Nomadic Notions sparked an interest in jewelry making that has been slowly growing. I was glad to visit the store last weekend to get everything I’ve been needing to continue this hobby. The staff has always been lively and helpful.

I am an avid jewelry maker. I make everything — earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces, wine charms. I’ve turned my jewelry love into making more elaborate headpieces, as well.
Most of my passion started at Nomadic Notions. I was a quick study when they took it upon themselves to just start teaching me things while I was there.
I guess they enjoyed that I learned so quickly.
They have a decent selection of beads and findings for such a small store. The staff is extremely friendly, although at times I feel like they think I’m pocketing Swarovski’s one bead at a time — because they watch you like a hawk. They are quick to offer assistance, as I mentioned, but I’ve noticed they don’t always have the most patience. Especially when individuals ask for help finding beads or findings.
I also find the random other non-​bead items for sale, well, random.
The only reason they don’t get 5 stars is because some of their pricing is a tad outrageous. I buy the majority of my supplies online and I know the 5x profit they’re making on some of the items (presuming they are shopping via the same wholesale locations I am???) I get they need to pay the rent, but some of the items are just a bit too overpriced for me to be able to justify shopping with them for ALL my beading needs, especially since so many online places offer free shipping. I try to support local business as much as possible, but they need to be fair, too.

Nomadic Notions is a cool little bead shop located off of Anderson Lane. For a change of pace, I decided to have a birthday party here. It was awesome! We had the whole place to ourselves after hours and were able to bring in wine and snacks. The price was reasonable-​$ 10 per person + the cost of whatever beads/​materials the guests chose. They give you a tally sheet and all the prices are clearly marked so you can be careful to not go over budget.
It was quite overwhelming at first, as they have a wide array of beads and materials. I didn’t even know where to begin. The staff was very friendly and helpful and did a great job of guiding us through the jewelry making process. They had a few sample pieces laid out for inspiration. We were able to make unique pieces to match our personality and style. It was so cool to see everyone’s creations-​from simple to lavish. I will be back on my own to make more jewelry or attend a class. I have so much broken jewelry that I would like to retool to make a new piece, so I might bring that here too. I would definitely recommend this as a party spot for girls & women of any age.

Great for crafters — all kinds of beads, pearls, and shiny things to make handmade jewelry, and the wires, tools, expert staff, and classes to help you do it. Fair prices.

Very cute little bead shop located in an old shopping center near Mopac/​Anderson. Seems like they would be more well known with a better location, but I can appreciate that business that finds a spot they like and keeps it.
I’m not a huge beader so maybe I’m not the best person to review this place, but I did want to give them a shout out for being super friendly and helpful with my extreme beginner questions. The ladies working there were patient and didn’t act annoyed with my long browsing in awe session before I bought anything.
In the end I was kind of overwhelmed and ended up buying one single little charm to add to a necklace I already owned, and the rad cashier with the shellacked gummy peach earrings didn’t judge me too harshly for only spending 70 cents :)
