I needed to get my car inspected. I had planned on doing it this week because I was off work today and could work it into my schedule before Christmas.
My check engine light came on yesterday on my way home from the office. I wanted to get it checked, repaired and get my inspection. I made an online appointment.
I got a call today at 12:40 pm that they would not honor my appointment. They only had one person scheduled to do diagnostic and repairs and inspection stickers. They sent him home early because they did not need him.
It’s too late for me to go anywhere else. It’s too close to Christmas to get any type of appointment. I can’t find any auto places willing to service my car.
I stupidly trusted they would take care of me and honor their appointments. They did not call me to let me know so I could try to schedule somewhere else for today in a timely manner. It was too late in the day to be worked in at this point to go anywhere.
When I discussed it with the manager and told him it was unacceptable, he tried to smooth it out by saying he called me so I did not drive over there to find out.
I guess he just did not want me to chew him out in person.
He screwed me over during the holidays. He stupidly only had one person scheduled to do diagnostics and repairs and inspections, and then sent him home early.
Waste of time, and energy and have ruined my days plans.
I see all these great service kudos to this location and they don’t give a care in the world they screwed me over and boxed me into a time frame where I could not get service anywhere else and they could not provide any type of service themselves.
When I called the corporate office, they could care less and said things come up. so sad, too bad.
Don’t trust them. They give rotten service. They don’t honor their store hours and schedules. They don’t keep appointments.
And. They plain don’t care.

Absolutely horrid. Six hours after I got there, I’m out $ 200 for BS diagnostics and NOTHING is fixed. And this was my THIRD time coming in for this same issue. I was told to make an appointment on my first visit to reduce waiting time. I did it, like a good girl, and when I arrived for my appointment, I was told I’d have to wait «at least 45 minutes» to have it even looked at. Then what’s the point of making an appointment??? I decided to come back another day very early. The third time was not the charm. Don’t believe a word Frank tells you. When I asked about what exactly is wrong with my car after all these diagnostic tests, Frank had no idea how to explain the problem and gave me a shockingly high estimate for the repairs. No thank you! Taking my business elsewhere. Terrible communication between mechanics, front desk people, and customers and absolutely no remorse shown for disrespectful behavior to customers. HORRID.

Worst place ever! Serviceman I dealt with was clueless, nervous, and incompetent. Wasted an entire day before I had my car towed to the dealership, where the part I needed was in stock and $ 50 cheaper! Wish I could give zero stars!

I «scheduled» and oil change. Arrived 30 minutes early just because we wanted to purchase new tires as well. 1^st, the associate could not find my appointment. After some searching he found it. I went to sit in the waiting area, it’s an oil change, how long can it take… after 45 minutes I went to the counter to check on the service and he said they were «getting to it». During this time, I asked him about tires. He typed in some info and gave me the price of $ 598.00. $ 600.00 for cheap no name brand tires. I decided that was too much and I would shop around. I took the info on the tires and went and sat down for another 15 minutes. I got up to check and the car was still in the same spot. I then went to the counter and asked for my keys back. He handed me my keys and we left. As far as the tires… I found 4 brand new Dunlop tires for $ 100.00 less than what was being offered for the no name brand at a place down the street. Quality Tires on Ben White is not into cheating their customers, but retaining their business by being honest and respecting their customers time. I will never go back to Pep Boys. It is not worth my time.

I came in here to get a new battery and was completely surprised by the level of service I received. Not only was I greeted and promptly pointed in the right direction but after I checked out they carried my battery to my car for me. As the daughter of a mechanic I have been to hundreds of auto part stores throughout my life and have never seen such a level of service as I did here. The men also didn’t patronize me for being a woman in a mechanic atmosphere, they were extremely respectful and spoke me on an equal level as the guys in line next to me. (Basically like I wasn’t an idiot, which is probably the first time in my life this has been the case)
Thank you to pep boys for doing your job efficiently while also making me feel respected and appreciated as a customer!

I paid for a repair that did not actually happen and drove on a dangerous tire due to their negligence and/​or incompetence.
I took my car in for a slow leak in a tire. I was told if the puncture was fixable it would be $ 19.99 and if it was a side wall puncture they would call me first because it would need to be completely replaced. I left my car and they called me within 2 hours to let me know it was ready and had been patched. When I paid for the tire repair I asked what caused the puncture and was told, «I don’t know, the guy didn’t write it down.» That was mildly annoying but I didn’t think much of it.
The following morning my tire pressure warning light came back on and I checked the repaired tire. It was inflated to 60 psi or higher (my gauge doesn’t measure past 60) and the recommended pressure list on the tire and inside the door and in the manual is 33. So I was late to work because I had to deflate my tire down to a reasonable pressure.
Two days later my tire was low again. I took it to another place and they said it was a side wall puncture which could not be fixed.
Pep Boys sent me and my child out on the roads with a super inflated tire that had not been repaired but they gladly took my money.
They did give me a refund but I will not be returning.

Really nice guys. he stayed 20 min late to help me get my inspection. and offered me ICE cold bottle of water

Amazing service, I was really nervous about my tire, but Don was extremely nice and made my tire exchange really easy. He’s hilarious, too.

My truck AC hasn’t been adequate during the recent hot weather, so, based on the glowing reviews of Kelly and Ron, I made an appointment at this Pep Boys to have it checked out. I filled out all the online info, made an appointment for Saturday – all the online stuff worked perfectly.
Saturday morning Don, from the service dept, called and apologized that he didn’t have an AC guy working this weekend, but based on the symptoms, I could top off the refrigerant myself, and he’d help. {if you’ve got a leak, you need a professional to fix it, but if it’s cooling, but not cold enough, you can top off the refrigerant yourself}.
I went to the store, introduced myself to Don, and found the proper refrigerant/​gauge combo. He offered to come out to the parking lot and help me do it, but I said it looked easy and I’d do it myself at home. The coolant+gauge combo was around $ 45.
I also wanted to get a new cabin air filter, but they were sold out of the size for my truck. A guy from the parts dept helped look for one in back, but they were really out of that one.
This morning, I recharged the AC system (it took 10 minutes, max) and the air coming out of the vents is really cold again. I pulled out the cabin air filter (it’s behind the glovebox), and it was so dirty that I’m amazed a single molecule of air could get through it. I left it out and will look for another auto-​parts store that has it today. The volume of air coming out of the vents is easily 10X what it was.
So, even though they didn’t actually do a lot for me this visit, they were very friendly and helpful, and whenever I need service or parts, I’ll go back there.

Don’t go! Save yourself time and frustration. «Appointment» just means get in line. Warranty work goes to the bottom of the waiting list. Service desk man was complaining to ME! I bought a battery 4÷15÷15 in Houston, moved to Austin in July, and have a dead battery on 8÷12÷15. Pep Boys in Austin doesn’t have computer access to my service or sales record in Houston. Apparently Pep Boys does not operate that way. I had to call and get the work order number myself, then the Austin guy still said he’s still not sure he’ll find the record. Ineptness at its best.

It’s father’s day and I have a flat tire. Dread immediately engulfs my entire body when it dawns on me that I have no choice but to go to Pepboy’s on Lamar St., in Austin. I hate this place so much that I’ve actually taken a longer route to work in order to avoid passing it, and having it ruin my day/​life.
Alas, it is the only place open today. I walk in bracing myself for the same crappy service, pissed off employees, long wait, and overall shitty experience. Instead I’m greeted by Don, the new sheriff in town!
I notice right away that all the employees are new, I start to relax. I observe Don directing the operation as effeciently as I’ve ever seen it. (I’ve been here twice before, both times were hellish) I have a feeling all is going to be alright at the good ‘ol Pepboys! The tech who fixed my flat was fast, and awesome!

Amazing service here. Tomas helped me change a tail light, at no cost, when I was there for an oil change. I’ll be back here again.

They are like most car repair shops — they find something unrelated that needs to be fixed — but in my case they called to see if I wanted to have unrelated thing fixed and they called back with a price which was crazy high and told them no.
When I picked up my car, there was a $ 50 rebate sign right behind the counter. I asked the guy about it and he was like «I don’t know what that is you may need to get a form in the store» He really had no idea about the promo.
They were faster than expected and the price was well, tolerable I guess.

Oh Pepboys how I wanted to be able to keep my last rating. this past experience was HORRIBLE. My shop fee plus repairs was 700 (plus a coupon). They got my car towed to them on Monday night, so of course I expect them to start working on my car the next day (in the morning), as I needed to work on Wednesday. My car had over heated and so they were going to check my coolant system and see if it was simple like a hoes. I called them on Tuesday around 2ish and they hadn’t even touched my car at all. The gentleman I talked to was like «I just got here, I don’t know anything, there are no notes.» So of course I was bloody pissed! I told the gentleman on the phone that I was angry, and it wasn’t directed to him on the phone, but instead of giving a shit… he just hurried me off the phone and said «I’ll have the tech call you when he gets back from lunch.». Which they NEVER called me back to update me on anything. I had to continuously call them on everything and they were quite sexist in their talking to me on the phone. With me they were rude, cut me off and wouldn’t really explain shit to me. BUT with my husband they would talk to him and try to come up with some reason on why they hadn’t got to my car.
They didn’t even touch my car until late (very late) on Tuesday and then on Wednesday they worked on it (hence the no working because of no car)… my husband spoke with them the whole time, since they were such douches to me. My husband explained to them that we needed the car by 3pm, because he had to be in bed by 6pm for work at 2am. Which they said they understood and promised to have it ready for us by then. So that time roles around and they didn’t even have the car ready. they changed it and said 4pm. They never called to give updates or if the car wasn’t going to be at the promised time. I call around 4pm and they didn’t even have the parts in and the tech even screwed up the parts in the car. They had to redo their work because of this. My car wasn’t even ready until 6pm!!! I had to get a ride from a friend…
When I called around 5:30pm to see if my husband could drop me off and I could just wait for my car? they told me «No, you can’t wait, we would prefer that you don’t come until we call you and tell you your car is ready.» …
The whole process was rude, time consuming, sexist, and not a pleasure to deal with. I only went back to them because even though my last experience wasn’t perfect, the customer service was at least good (sorta) and they did my last work. so at least if it was the same thing they would know it. Never again! I need to find a good mechanic in town. any suggestions people?

Understaffed. Went in with a reservation for service and waited for 5 minutes before going to find someone to help me. Finally found an annoyed man who told me he couldn’t do the work that I had a reservation for and that it wouldn’t be till many hours later before they could maybe get to it, if at all.
Overall if you need work done on your car and value your time, go elsewhere.

I went on a Sunday to get my tires changed (set of 4) and the tire guy communicated that it would take a while because they were short staffed but provided pricing and was patient. So while my tires were changed I went to pluckers to watch some basketball.
Price — the cost for all season tires were cheaper than Costco (even with $ 70 off promo) because pepboys had the buy 3 get the 4^th free. Every all it was ~$ 50 cheaper here.
Customer Service –All the staff provided great customer service and they always have what I need. I just wish they would hire more people to meet the demand. Once they have more staff I’m sure they’ll earn my 4^th or 5^th star.

I have been a loyal Pep Boys customer for years, and I stayed with them when I moved to Austin. I have never had a problem, and I was actually planning on writing a positive review until today.
I took my car by yesterday to get an oil change and an estimate on what it would take to fix the check engine light stuff. I told them that, and they said to being it back today because their technician was off yesterday. Ok, cool. They said I didn’t need an appointment-​that I could just drop it off. Cool.
I go back today, and they refuse to give me an estimate without a $ 100 diagnostic test. They didn’t say anything about that yesterday. I have written estimates from two other places, and I asked if they would honor those estimates. No.
Bottom line, they want $ 100 before they even LOOK at my car. Thank goodness for competition and other places with better service.
The irony? I had to sort through a stack of pep boys receipts to even find the other two estimates.
Avoid, avoid, avoid this place unless you have money to throw away.

How often are you greeted by the manager and assistant manager when you walk into an auto parts store? Most of the time you can’t get anyone to look you in the eye much less help you.
I’ve been coming here for quite some time so it was a pleasant surprise for Frank and Amanda to ask if I wanted assistance. It worked, I ended buying a couple of extra things that I needed.
I find some comfort in knowing I can go to PEPBOYS and not have to send out a search party to find the goods and services that I require.

When most people think of taking their car to a service center, they associate it with:
— taking time off work,
— dropping off the car,
— arranging for alternate transportation,
— the inconvenience of not having their car, and
— being at the mercy of the mechanic.
They also hope and pray that the cost of the repair is within their budget and that the garage is not going to nickle and dime them in $ 150 increments per phone call and try to sell them services or repairs that they do not need. No one ever wants to be in an emergency position to rush their car in for repair, because that generally means something is very wrong or dangerous to keep driving.
Recently, I had taken a day off for my birthday and was attending to some much needed pampering before an evening out with friends. As I was leaving the spa, someone pointed out that one of my rear tires was very low. I stopped at a nearby dealership to get some air added so I could safely drive home. They pointed out I had a nail in my tire. ARGH! This was not the thing I had time for today. It was my birthday.
At this point, I had a little over 2 hours to drive home, get cleaned up and head back downtown to meet up with friends for my birthday celebration. I did not have the time to deal with a tire repair. And where can you go, in a hurry, to take care of this?
I decided to drive down South Lamar instead of the freeway, and called several places on the way home. Minimum repair time quoted was an hour but no one could get me in that day. I then called Pep Boys. Clemente, the service manager answered the phone. I explained to him my issue and that it was my birthday and I was on a real time crunch. He told me to come on in and he would take care of me and do what he could to get me back on the road in 30 minutes.
I arrived in less than 5 minutes, he quickly took my car to the service center and discovered it had not one but 2 holes. One from a nail and one from a roofing screw. They quickly performed the repair and had me on the road in under 30 minutes. When I asked what I owed him, he responded that it would be no charge. I offered him a $ 20 tip and he refused it. He just asked that I would consider bringing them my business in the future. Wow! This is not the behavior I have come to expect or dread from an Auto Service Center!
I made it home in time to get ready and make it back to downtown, in time for my reservation. Thank You to Clemente and Pep Boys for going the extra mile with fast and friendly service!

Amazing customer service at Pep Boys today. Brought my hubby’s truck by to get some new windshield wipers… sales guy installed them for me for free! I then stopped by the service side to get an updated inspection. The truck needed new bulbs and I was told the inspection and bulb replacement would be around 2 hours. The service manager, Clemente, offered to give me a lift home (I live a few miles away) so I didn’t have to wait at the store! I rode my bike back to the store to pick up the truck and the service guy who worked on the truck helped me put my bike in the back.
Awesome job, amazing service and super friendly workers. Good job, Clemente!
