Planet Fitness – Austin – W. Anderson Lane

91 degrees outside and big ass fan is barely moving. They could speed it up. You will come in during the fall and that fan is cranked up on high. Paper towel dispenser broken. And hand sanitizer still empty from last night.

Nasty stand up tanning bed room #5-​looks like people took their dog in there and shaved it! Chose not to use that session. Someone needs to do some deep cleaning instead of relying on the customer. Don’t forget the handles and the start buttons. Yuk

Nice machines. Never too crowded. Great prices. Free trainers. I’ve been here about 8 months now. Not going anywhere any time soon. One star off because the men’s room only has two toilets and their free weight section could be bigger.

Amazing value! LOTS of high quality gym equipment. CLEAN and well maintained. Friendly staff. This place is fantastic.

So I initially signed up for a membership at the Killeen, TX location while I was stationed at Ft Hood. The main thing that drew me towards PF was that for only $ 20 a month I could have not only a gym membership, but a tanning membership as well. I had previously gotten a tanning membership at some frou frou miss priss place and it was way overpriced and I’d have to wait for a bed every time I came in. I think I was paying upwards of about $ 50 a month for unlimited tanning. What a steal PF is compared to that alone.
SO, since ETS’ing from the army I’ve moved to Austin. I started using this location because it’s closest to me. Here’s my honest opinion of it:
*HEADS UP* They charge an annual fee (as I’m sure is the norm with all gyms) that will sneak up on you come December! I believe it was $ 65.
You get out of it what you put in. I think PF gets more crap than it deserves. There are quite a few things that I really wish PF would invest in/​put in their gyms, so be warned before you sign up for a membership that PF (at least this location) does not have:
–SQUAT RACK
–BENCH PRESS
–ROW MACHINE
–KETTLE BELLS
–SAUNA
If you aren’t a beginner, you know this sucks. But there are alternatives, and I promise you can still get a good workout in here. There are Smith machines (cry about it, they’re better than nothing) and free weights. Get creative!
I’ve only used the stand-​up tanning beds here but they are amazing quality. If part of why you’re wanting to sign up for a membership here is for the tanning — do it. Seriously. You won’t be disappointed. Be warned though that you can only do the tanning when you sign up for the black card ($ 20 a month vs the $ 10 basic membership). Also, you are limited to only one tanning session per 24 hours. They track the exact time you tanned last in their computers, so don’t think you’re going to pull a fast one on them. I’ve tried: P
Another great thing about this is if you’re in a relationship like I am, you can almost get two gym memberships for the price of one. With the black card you can bring one guest with you any time you workout. So I’ve been bringing my boyfriend on his days off so he doesn’t have to drive so far to his work gym. BUT, it’s a double-​edged sword because this increases crowding drastically, and especially this time of month with all of the New Years resolutioners, this place gets PACKED.
Overall, this is a decent gym. It’s missing some things, but it makes up for it in affordability, hours, cleanliness, friendly staff, amount of locations, and more.
One last thing I want to touch on:
IF YOU ARE NEW to this whole working out thing, have no experience, have no clue what you’re doing, feel too intimidated to go to the gym, or are just plain embarrassed: COME HERE. There is always staff available to help if you’re lost, don’t know how to use a machine, or to answer any other questions you may have. When you come in to sign up they’ll even give you a tour if you ask (I recommend you do! No one likes being that person that walks around looking lost in the sauce.) They also have Mon-​Fri classes available — they’re first come first serve for sign up.

They oversell memberships to the point that its so packed during peak hours, and even non-​peak hours that you cannot get anything done. I literally quit and joined Golds so I could get a workout done without waiting to use every peice of equipment. My workouts have been much more efficient ever since I left. Not to mention Golds offers protien smoothies and PF has pizza days. What does that tell you?!
The only thing good about this «gym» is that you can say you went to the gym today.

The best thing about this gym is their water fountain. I don’t know what it is but the water just tastes really good here. I was visiting from Houston and that’s the main thing I noticed. The only thing I didn’t like is their equipment is dated. I’m not sure if I just belong to a newer PF but the fact that their I water tastes amazing totally made up for that.

Its Planet Fitness. Nothing too fancy here. Adequate parking lot, Nice staff, the machines work, the showers usually arent too nasty/​messed up, the massage chair and bed work.

WORST GYM EVER!
Besides the fact that it is overcrowded and not clean,
I cancelled my membership over 20 months ago and then called to confirm that I did not have anything else to do to end my membership. THE EMPLOYEES I SPOKE TO SAID THAT MY MEMBERSHIP WAS CANCELLED. Planet Fitness has still be charging me after I have cancelled and refuse to refund my money. The Regional Manager has even refused to call me after I requested that I speak to him.

I’m a traveler and I’ve been to quite a few different Planet Fitness locations now and I have to say, I’m not a fan of how this one is laid out. The treadmills literally touch, the free weight area is crammed into the front corner, there’s no open area to really do things like traveling lunges… or really just have a little personal space as you use the dumbbells. The massage chairs are also in an awkward spot and crammed together at that. It’s just weird to see because PF usually has this down.
And maybe this is a unique thing I’ve encountered at special locations, but they don’t have the total body enhancement machine (RVT Beauty Angel). And that bums me out because it was one of the main reasons I upgraded to the black card at my home gym.
The staff at this location has been mostly nice… Mostly. This location isn’t horrible, but it definitely didn’t dazzle me.

Terrible customer service charged me a late fee although I’ve been paying for a full year and have not been able to use my membership because of having to move. They would not wave my ten dollar late fee even though I called them to pay my bill and nobody answered the phone. I left a message and they didn’t call me back. Don’t support places that only care about making money and not about people.

I really like this gym! The staff is so nice and very, very helpful. The equipment is new and the facility is kept very clean. Try to go at an off time if possible, as it can get very crowded at lunch, after work, etc. The only thing I wish they had is a pool, but overall very happy here and you can’t beat the price — $ 10/​month!

Worst gym I’ve ever been to (I’ve been to many). Staff are rude and unhelpful, equipment is falling apart. My girlfriend and I stopped going because the guys who work out there are total creeps.
I once saws guy in there wearing a NAZI SHIRT and told the staff who did NOTHING. So much for creating and environment of «no intimidation»
so, yeah. If you want a gym full of assholes that’s run by spoiled teenagers than this is your spot

been fighting for 2 months to get them to stop billing me after I have ended my membership. This place is run by morons. Finally had my bank stop all payments.

Big fan of this gym, although the equipment isn’t the newest models their machines work just fine and it never seems to be overcrowded. They have unlimited fitness classes trained by Alberto who is a really motivating and down-​to-​earth personal trainer! If you are results definitely sign up for his classes he is able to modify the exercises to fit your goals and needs. The front staff is nice in overall just never had a problem at this gym!

Ok, Planet Fitness, you’re listening. And this makes me really appreciative.
Maybe you didn’t read my Unilocal review about your mediocrity, but it seems like you figured out your mistakes yourself, and that’s pretty impressive to me.
You still have the obnoxious rules and stupid commercials, but I guess I can forgive you for that. No one’s perfect.
My location recently updated machines and renovated. With this renovation came cold water from the fountain (hell yes!). The place feels even cleaner than before. And of course, the employees are as nice as always.

Going to a traditional gym has never worked for me. It’s boring and I don’t know what I’m doing. Not to mention that it’s always kind of awkward. This is why bootcamp has worked so well for me. But I, like many people have that gym membership that debits monthly and I never go. That’s my bad. That’s on me. But another reason I hate gyms is because when you try to go cancel, they always have a reason you can’t and they have to charge you one more time and you have to come back and on and on. These places have invented a slave like membership and take advantage of people. I don’t think I will ever go back to a traditional gym. Planet Fitness, you can suck it.
Your employees are half wit dull personalities that obviously hate their jobs, even though it mostly consists of looking at numbers on key tag and wiping things off.
If someone doesn’t want to be a part of your judgement free zone, then you should let them go instead of holding their bank accounts hostage so you can squeeze another couple months of dues out of them. This won’t be my last post about your BS as I am going to the BBB and various other outlets. Hopefully I can deter other fitness hopefuls for falling for your crap. Please eat a bag scrote.

I go here on a buddy pass since my husband is a black card member. I have been so impressed with this gym compared to 24 Hour Fitness, which is where I used to be a member. Planet Fitness is always clean (I commonly see cleaning people on the gym floor and in the dressing rooms), and the front desk staff is always super friendly. I like the size – there is enough equipment that you don’t have to wait for a machine. I also like the disinfectant spray that is placed throughout the gym, and I’ve noticed most people do wipe down their equipment after use.

Truthfully, for the inexpensive cost, I was surprised at what a nice facility this is.

I used to love coming here. I’ve had countless interactions with planet fitness. They charged me multiple late fees when my card is on their file. Then they always proceed to make up some lie to just get you out of their way. The girl that works up front is an awful employee. She told me in front of a coworker that I have to come in before the tenth to avoid the consistent 30 dollar charge on a 10 dollar per month contract. I come in after being charged 30 again before the tenth & she says she never said that. The staff is completely useless. They eat pizza, are overweight. I hate planet fitness. And I can’t seem to get out of my contract.
I also moved with proof of moving. I sent them proof of mail with my name and new address. She said I would be taken off. I continued to be charged. I called from California. They then said I had to have something notarized. Awful place. Don’t go.

New Years Resolutionists will swarm this place at the beginning of the year. They have a peak-​hour chart at the front desk. Plan your workout accordingly ;)
Totally worth a scoping out. I’ve been a member of two other gym chains, and this place easily has all the exact same bells and whistles as the other spots, with a significant discount. All the equipment is by Cybex, the locker rooms are clean, the music is great, there’s a wifi for my phone to stream Pandora if I want my own music, and they’ve got all the addons of a regular gym if you want them (trainers, tanning, massaging chairs, classes, etc.). I like their 30-​minute workout station a lot. There is an interval timer on the wall to keep you at the right pace, which is very helpful for the easily-​distracted like me o. O
The one immediately noticeable drawback is that, with the basic membership, this is a one-​gym membership. You don’t have access to other gyms in the chain unless you upgrade to the «Black Card,» which is twice as much per month (which is still only $ 20!).
