Scary Cold AC

Ed and his crew have been working on the AC units at my office (there are 4) for a few years with great results. So, when the time came for total AC replacement at my home I gave them a call. Needless to say, I made the right decision We made an appointment and the unit was installed the same week. One part from the unit manufacturer was defective, so they had a replacement part in and installed in one day. When I think of repair professionals, be it car or home or commercial, the most important aspect of doing business with them is the question «do I trust them»? Will they try to rip me off with unnecessary costs or upgrades? The answer for Scary Cold is that I trust them completely, and that gives me great piece of mind. I will work with them again!

WOW!!! My AC was pouring water out, Ed came over and did a quick look and vacuumed some dirt out and debris out of it and said he would squeeze me in, in 2 days, and didn’t charge me. I figured it was my coils and drip pan clogged up. My other ac person did not want to bother with cleaning my coils and that’s why I called Scary Cold. Ed came back in 2 days, didn’t take as long as he said and didn’t cost what he estimated — it was less. Guess what… Scary Cold now has ALL my business! Including the duct work I need replaced when it cools down. Great company, great customer service, great prices. They REALLY care. Ed is hilarious and I love the van!

When I noticed water steadily leaking from my furnace, I started to call around for AC service. Ed was the only one to call back in a timely manner, which was important to me since it was a bit of an emergency. He was friendly, honest and very knowledgable. With a bit of troubleshooting Ed figured out what my problem was. Fairly simple fix at a super reasonable rate, without trying to sell me anything or do anything unneeded. Ed and Scary Cold AC are now my heating/​cooling guys. Don’t call anyone else!

Scary Cold AC is the place to call when your air conditioning goes out. Ed is punctual, knowledgeable, nice, and professional. I thought we would have to wait overnight for him to show up– but he drove out within the hour. Fixed my unit right up, and his fees are VERY reasonable. He was extremely friendly to my daughter, as she was checking out his cool van. Flashed his Ghostbuster lights as he drove away.

We were at the tail end of a home remodel and the AC went out. We were supposed to move back into the house the next day with our week old baby. Ed’s guys were out and had the unit fixed 3 hours after I called. This was in late-​July, their busy season. They were slammed with other jobs but they were able to squeeze me in since it was an emergency. Ed even came out the next day to personally verify it had been fixed to his standards. Who does that?

Woke up on Saturday of July 4^th weekend and AC had stopped. I called about 8 places and only about 50% even bothered to call me back, just to say they couldn’t help me until Monday. Scary Cold called back within the hour and was there within 45 minutes after that. The guy was normal, professional and fast. In and out in 30 minutes and only cost me $ 90.

Ed from Scary Cold AC is great! He is now our go to guy for any HVAC needs. He’s very knowledgable and doesn’t mind taking the time to explain the inner workings of your system and breakdown the actual issue for you so there aren’t any questions as to what is being done. Communication was great all the way through setting up the appointment, having it start on time, and to completion of the work.
He had the problem fixed and the unit working at an A level, but wasn’t satisfied until he got to A+. I have confidence that the work he has done will last and his no BS work style ensures Scary Cold will be the first and only number I reach for in the future for HVAC work.

Ed is the best! He’s punctual and super friendly. He always takes the time to explain what he’s doing, and why. I’m a fan, and will def continue to use his services for the future.

We heard about Ed from a friend through roller derby (he DJ’s all the flat track games), and we’re glad we did. We had a different company come out and install a Nest thermostat after our previous thermostat died a horrible death via exploding batteries.
We then noticed that our fan was running constantly and blowing cold air when the actual AC unit wasn’t running. Odd.
Ed came out and told us that he’s seen all kinds of trouble with Nests and how they’re wired and uninstalled it for us. He gave us step by step instructions on how to contact the company to get a refund and how to get them to even refund his fee to uninstall it. AND he gave us a loaner thermostat until we could get our refund to buy a new one! His rate was completely reasonable, even though he knew we’d be getting it refunded by Nest.
We had such a good experience we’re working with him to replace our entire AC unit in the next few months.

Ed from Scary Cold AC is awesome! Not only can he keep your house scary cold in summer, he can combat the scary cold in winter by fixing your furnace. We all know native Texans are weenies when it comes to colder weather and when we found ourselves going outside to warm up in late December, we knew something was wrong. Ed came out to take a look and had us all fixed up in no time. He was referred to us by a friend and there is definitely a reason why. He was honest, friendly, quick, thorough, and oh so easy on the pocketbook. No crazy up sells, no trying to do more than what was needed, no extra fees. Trusting folks in the HVAC industry is not an easy thing, especially when the average Joe just doesn’t have the expertise to troubleshoot or DIY. Finding someone like Ed is invaluable to a homeowner. Scary Cold AC makes it not so scary. And we say ‘HOORAY’ to that!

Ed @ scary cold came out to service and inspect our HVAC units and did a great job. Ed is straightforward, punctual, and knowledgeable. The service call was also budget friendly. Plus his van is pretty cool!

Ed from Scary Cold makes AC issues in the TX summer heat much less terrifying.
We called him when we needed a solution to our upstairs always being waaaay warmer than our arctic downstairs. We have old single pane windows and only one cold air return so things weren’t circulating right. He installed another thermostat and these awesome robotic registers that close in one area when to focus AC into another, it worked perfectly! He even called to check if we were still as happy a couple of weeks later, which we totally were. Sounds pricy? Nope! Can there be reverse sticker shock? If so, that’s what we had.
He might shake his head slowly at you if you call him in a panic because your unit isn’t pumping out cold air but your actual problem is that you never change your filter (not that we’ve ever done that… ahem…) but he’s definitely not going to sell you a whole new AC system that you don’t need (when other companies DID say that, what a rip!).
This is one of those reviews I’m conflicted to write. I want to praise the awesome service we get from Ed, but I’m afraid more business generated from Unilocal will steal him away from us. He’s prompt, smart and affordable. He used to work for an area HVAC service company but has recently started up his own thing. He seems to really like doing it, and he’s already pretty busy. For now it seems like he’s the only employee so it might be hard during busy times of year to get an appointment, but if you can, the service is personal and capable.
