Shaman Modifications Tattoo & Body Piercing

I decided to get my nose pierced here after reading all the positive reviews. I was not disappointed. Pineapple was very friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. I was a little nervous because I knew it was going to be painful, but this was the best piercing experience I’ve ever had. Pineapple used proper sterile technique, which not everybody performs correctly. Overall, it was a super great experience and I highly recommend this place.

There is a reason for the number of 5 star ratings – they are the best. Went to Shaman on 5÷30÷16 for a piercing and Jade was piercing that day. After I told her what piercing I wanted, she checked and then took time to explain what jewelry would be best for the piercing I wanted.
The piercing area is immaculate. During the whole piercing process, she explained each step and was very professional. The piercing was quick and the placement was perfect. I am very happy with the results and will definitely go back to Jade for any other piercings.

I got piercing done by Danae! She was so great, quickly answered all my emails I sent before and after I went in with questions I had. It was an overall wonderful experience.

If you need any tattoo work, this is the place to go. Not only is it extremely sanitary, but Justin is AWESOME. He is super talented and is determined to give you exactly what you want. You typically have to wait a few weeks to get an appointment, so plan in advance… but that just shows how great of an artist he is if he’s that booked up.

Jade repierced/​stretched out my old second piercings, and honestly it felt like a strong pinch — not painful at all. I unfortunately didn’t have deep enough pockets for the 18k gold studs, so I went with titanium studs for the next month before I switch out to something else.
For my visit it was less than $ 50 including tip.

I came here about a month ago (³⁄₂₀₁₆) to get my nose pierced, and it was a great experience! Everyone was super professional and the facility was not at all intimidating. The area where they did the piercing reminded me of a physician’s office. They obviously took great care to be as sterile as possible. They used a cleanser on my nose and then placed a little sterile drape over my face (I couldn’t see the actual procedure part, but I didn’t want to see it anyway!). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a piercing.
And, for what it’s worth, I’m a physician in a surgical specialty and even I was impressed with their cleanliness and use of sterile technique!

Based on my friend’s recommendation, I just went and got a dermal at a shop right around the corner from my house here in Hawaii. So what the deuce am I doing writing a review for Pineapple? Indulge me and continue reading.
PINEAPPLE IS THE BEST PIERCER EVER!
I’m a born and raised Austinite and the last time I had a piercing (before today) was with Pineapple. I always realised what a badass he is, but after the sub-​par experience I just had, I appreciate him so much more.
He gives the absolute best advise. Trust him. It might not always be what you want to hear (i.e. placement is wrong b/​c of muscles, etc…), but it’s in your best interest. He’s super quick and painless (well, as painless as a piercing can be). If ever I had a problem with my piercing, he was always happy to take a look at it for me and suggest things to help.
GO TO PINEAPPLE! I can’t wait to visit home again and have him pierce me. I’m never going to anyone else again.

My boyfriend and I dropped in to see Pineapple on a Monday afternoon. Boyfriend, hereinafter referred to as Nick, received two 10g helix piercings in his right ear and I received a magnetic implant in my left ring fingertip.
The Breakdown:
— It’s street parking, so if you’re going during a busy time, prepare to walk. I prefer going when I know it’ll be relatively slow. Piercings are walk-​in only!!!
— The building is so nice! The shop was artfully decorated and clean as a whistle!
— Pineapple could not have been more personable. He spoke with confidence and experience, graciously answered tons of questions, set reasonable expectations for both my upcoming magnetic abilities and Nick’s original desire for an industrial. His knowledge helped Nick make a more suitable choice based on his ear anatomy. I cannot sing his praises loud enough. He is a true professional.
— Both of us were talked through our procedures, aftercare, and healing times in great length and detail. This is extremely important!
— Prices were perfectly reasonable. Remember that this is a well trained professional with 16 (if I recall correctly) years of experience working with all types of anatomy. You will most assuredly get what you pay for here! His work is artful.
The Bottom Line:
For as long as I’m in Austin, I will literally never get a piercing elsewhere. Absolutely perfect experience. Those in Austin and surrounding are incredibly lucky to have access to Pineapple! Highly highly highly recommend this place.

I got my helix re-​pierced by Danae. I’d done my research and she had wonderful reviews, which were definitely correct! Danae was patient with me as I went back and forth over which earring I wanted and helped me pick out one that was most flattering and fit my ear shape. She was incredibly thorough with giving me information on aftercare, helix placement, tips for earrings, etc. I trusted her completely and she walked me through each step of the preparation and execution of my piercing. She even took into account my ear shape and visibility when deciding on where to place the piercing. This was honestly one of the best piercing jobs I’ve ever gotten and Danae was so incredibly friendly. Would HIGHLY recommend her and I’ll definitely be going back! She knows her stuff!

I’ve been to many piercing shops, and Shaman is by far the best! I did my research before coming because I wanted to get my nipples repierced and was concerned about finding the best piercer to deal with all the scar tissue from my original piercing. Pineapple and his apprentice were totally professional and personable and their shop is everything you can hope for and more in terms of cleanliness. I love that they make a point of using natural methods for aftercare and don’t try to upsell you on some chemical crap that ultimately just dries out your beautiful new hole. They did my piercing at a 12g and despite the scar tissue, it hurt even less than my first time when I was pierced at 14g! My new piercings look and feel great. Thanks, Shaman!
Edit: I should mention this shop is more expensive than any other shop I’ve been to, but remember you get what you pay for!

I came to Austin from Houston specifically to get a special cover-​up piece done by Justin Vickers (Word of Mouth Tattoos) and I could not be happier! Amazing artistry, professionalism, personality, accommodation… you name it, Justin has it in spades, cannot wait to return to finish the piece! Thank you for my best tatt experience ever, man!

Pineapple was so helpful when I told him I was thinking about a double helix piercing! He showed me the recommended sizes for the location I was thinking of and specified my piercing location to compliment hoops, which I plan on getting once they’ve healed. His apprentice, Cody, was very helpful in reviewing the aftercare procedures and covered everything thoroughly! They helped me feel comfortable and made sure I wasn’t in pain through the process. I highly recommend them if you are considering a piercing!

I have been considering getting a nostril piercing for as long as I can remember. Finally, I decided to just do it. My friend and I stumbled upon Shaman… Sparks flew and the rest is history! Just kidding.
We researched the place and read many reviews. All of which were overwhelmingly positive. Five stars for a piercing/​tattoo parlor with 200+ reviews seemed unreal. They take walk-​ins and did not have a wait, which is already a huge plus in my book because I just might have lost my nerve and left. We were warmly greeted when we arrived. Danae, who ultimately did my piercing, looked young but was extremely professional AND knowledgeable. I am a nurse and one might consider me extremely nit-​picky about sterility if one were so inclined: P All the same, she explained everything she was doing and why.
Before beginning, we had a very sincere discussion about after-​care, what to do next, what to expect, what might be a problem, and that I can call or email at any time. I felt very confident (and relieved) that I was in great hands. And I’m certain her attention to the details was not just for my benefit.
The whole procedure was quick and, for the most part, painless! I am extremely pleased with how it turned out. Some other things worthy of note: the bathroom is immaculately clean! The inside of the building is like a classy art gallery with really neat pieces of art (movies and skeletons — you’d have to see it to know what I mean). The piercing area had a recliner (for those, like me, who are prone to fainting), was semi-​private, and very relaxing. Lastly, prices were affordable. A very well-​deserved five stars!

Justin is a badass tattoo artist. He’s done two medium size pieces for me so far on my way to a half sleeve. He just knows his stuff. The colors are intense and his line work is fantastic. He’s covering up a previous piece, and so far it looks amazing. He’s professional, fast, and is able to visualize a wide variety of styles for his clients. The facility is bright, clean, and comfortable. Can’t wait for my next piece!

Great experience– very clean and professional shop, ladies were very helpful, calm and patient, and answered all of my questions throughly. Beautiful jewelry selection for all kinds of piercings– I went with a flat matte disc for my nose: $ 40 to pierce, $ 30 for the stud. Jade was very kind and let me obsessively pick the perfect nose piercing position, then she talked me through the actual piercing, and then made sure I felt OK after. She gave me her card to contact her with any questions, and they request that you come back in halfway through your healing process so they can check to make sure it’s going ok. I was a bit nervous and thought it’d be an intimidating experience, but it was great and I’m so happy I finally got pierced! Thank you ladies! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Danae gave me a cartilage piercing on my upper ear (helix). She was patient and kind, and the process was quick and easy. Would definitely come back!

They have a beautiful collection of jewelry, including the exact noise ring I’ve been eating my time looking for elsewhere.
Jade was very professional and helped me select two new sets of gauges. One single flare set to go from 2g to 0g, and one double flare set to go with my wedding dress in February. She was quick and efficient when putting in the new gauges and nose ring, relatively painless overall.
Justin at the tattoo studio was also very professional and helpful. He sat with my fiancé and I to talk about tattoo designs with each of us. We both wanted very different designs but he took notes and listened intently. Then we were able to schedule our first sessions in a reasonable time frame.

I had been contemplating a piercing for a while and was going to be in the Austin area. I looked up reviews on Unilocal and saw that this place had the highest rating. I also saw that everyone was recommending Pineapple so I was determined to get him to pierce my helix.
This is my first piercing beside my lobes, so I was pretty nervous. I’m going to give you a detailed review in case you’re nervous like me — it might make you feel better!
Upon entering, the place was neat and quiet, which I liked. There were no customers, and I was relieved since I was anticipating a loud place with a bunch of people. There were two ladies that greeted me, and I let them know what I was interested in. They showed me their selection of jewelry and let me pick something. They have a really nice selection so it was hard to make a decision, but I went for a simple diamond stud.
I went in with the mindset that I wanted Pineapple to do my piercing, but I felt at ease with Jade, who was the lady helping me out. She was very calm and polite, and I liked her demeanor. She had me fill out a form on her iPad, and then watch a safety video that in a nutshell explained that infection is less likely if you don’t touch your piercing or make it wet. She asked if I had any questions and was very thorough with her responses.
She then put on some light music and took me upstairs. She explained each process of sterilization as she went through them, and made me feel at ease. She marked where my piercing would go and I liked that she helped me make a decision on where it should go. The piercing itself took less than 3 seconds and probably hurt a 7/​10, but the pain subsided almost immediately. I’m a big wuss when it comes to pain, so it probably won’t hurt anyone else that bad.
The end result looks awesome. No swelling or bleeding. Feels a little sore but I’m so happy with it. If I ever decide to get anything else, I’m definitely coming back. There’s a reason this place has 5 stars and over 200 reviews! I know Unilocal is all about Pineapple, and I’m sure he’s awesome, but give Jade a chance because she is definitely someone I’d go to again.
As far as price goes, it was pretty pricey. I paid $ 100 for the whole thing, but I’d honestly do it again for the experience, cleanliness of the place, and peace of mind on the quality of jewelry since I have sensitive ears.

Pricing was very reasonable. Tattoo and piercings are in two separate shops, so thankfully we happened to walk into the correct one. The space is very cool and modern, I loved all the artwork.

I have been tattooed many times by many different people. I got a tattoo by James on Monday. I had been in talks with him over the past few weeks about things that were important to me on my new tattoo. He was quick to respond and he was very professional in his attitude.
Come Monday, I went with my friend to get our shear tattoos. James greeted us like we were old friends and got to work. He’s extremely efficient in his work and knows exactly what to do. My beautiful tattoo took about an hour and his prices are amazing. I would have easily paid double for my piece.
James exceeded my expectations in every way. I will go back to him in the future.

I think I’m going through a midlife crisis, at 41 I decided to get my nose pierced. Thanks to Unilocal I discovered Shaman with a five star rating and 200 reviews. It was not what I expected at all. Super clean, tastefully decorated. Danae did my piercing and walked me through the whole process. On a scale of 1 – 10, pain was like a 2.
If you are as big chicken or conservative like me then this is the place for you. If you are not conservative it’s still got the Austin vibe going so you will be pleased too.

Great experience! I easily found parking on Comal and walked across the street to the storefront location. I walked through the door where a very clean and well-​decorated establishment greeted me, followed promptly by a greeting from Pineapple. If I had to wait, there is plenty of merchandise and art to keep me browsing for a while. Fortunately, I did not have to wait at all. Pineapple promptly took measurements for my piercings and we began the electronic process of consent, agreements, and aftercare education. A few minutes later, Pineapple politely escorted me upstairs to a private and restricted area where he performed the piercing. I had four piercings done at the same time. Pineapple talked me through each step of each one and was extremely professional. His experience shined through with minimal pain and perfect piercing alignment.
When I am ready for my next piercings, I have no doubt where to go.

Super happy with both of my piercings that I got at Shaman Modifications! About 2 years ago Pineapple did my central horizontal labret piercing, & this past Sunday Danae did my conch piercing on my right ear. They go through great breathing exercises prior to & during the piercing process that helped me a lot. Usually I’m rather squeamish & prone to fainting when it comes to needles. Haven’t had any complications with the healing process either.
The shop is very clean & inviting, everyone is super professional & welcoming! I’ll definitely be going back for my second conch piercing & any other piercings I get in the future!

I generally have a Harry Potter/​Voldemort approach when it comes to places I’ve had a not-​so-​great experience with… I just won’t say the name out loud.
Therefore, we’ll call the original piercing shop Junior High Boyfriend. You know that dude who made all kinds of sense at the time but in retrospect it makes you a little ill thinking about what you did.
Junior High Boyfriend pierced my triple front helix. I thought I followed all the rules perfectly, but after 10 weeks if felt worse rather than better. I thought maybe a jewelry change would make a difference but Junior High Boyfriend doesn’t sell it, so I landed here.
Danae felt right away that we should try a few things before ultimately taking them out. In the most professional way possible she said that I MIGHT have gotten the wrong jewelry and aftercare instructions. When I tried to press her to see if Junior High Boyfriend just sucked at his job, she politely said «It would be hard to know since I didn’t see your ear before it was pierced.»
Nice.
So she found some smaller options and talked me through everything she did, which was great when I felt this sensation that made me either want to scream or punch something.
Shop is small but super clean and a WIDE variety of clients– even parents taking their 16 year old for her birthday piercing. Sweet Sixteen Austin-​style, I guess. In Southern California we got cars (and I felt like a pretentious ass when I said it out loud to Danae).
I’ll update when progress is made, but I came away feeling like this is a shop of true professionals who care about their craft rather than people who took a weekend course and now just stick holes in people.

I had a truly great experience getting my nose pierced with Pineapple! I have to say that what I most appreciated about this whole thing was that after calling and reviewing Unilocal reviews, I felt that he was the most sincere, professional, comforting and yet real over the phone and in person. The process was simple, the post care instructions were clear and I did not feel like I was rushed through it. I am bringing a coworker here today and will bring my kids here as they are dying to get different piercings themselves. Highly recommend going here if you might have any nervousness about pain, he really has an aura of calmness and soothing presence!!!

My mom and niece came in town and we decided to get a tattoo last minute. We did some searching and found James! He had a cancellation so was able to get us in last minute. He did all three of our tattoo in less than an hour and they look amazing! James was very professional and their studio was very clean! Will definitely go back here if I get another one someday! Got a great piece done here!
Had an appointment with James and then about 2 weeks later got my piece done in 2 hours and 20 minutes. A great Batman piece on my inner arm that shows Bruce in attack. Serves an illusion as no matter the position I hold my arm in, it looks as if he’s in a stance for vengeance. Great detail was put into the chest/​torso area and it looks great. Healed very fast as well.
The facility was very clean, and new, great to access and wonderful service. Would definitely recommend James and Shaman Tattoo and Piercing to anyone looking for a well priced tattoo with great detail and service.

I decided 10 years after removing it, that I missed having a nostril piercing, and wanted to get it re-​pierced. I saw great reviews for this place on Unilocal,so I decided to give it a whirl. It was a Saturday afternoon, but I got super lucky with my timing and Danae was able to help me almost immediately. When I mentioned I had previously had a nostril piercing, Danae checked it out, and determined we could just stretch the original piercing, so I only had to pay for the jewelry and won’t have to worry about the healing process.

I was in, I was out, it was fabulous. I had called first, but did not get an answer, but the girl was nice enough to call me back, just by seeing my number on the caller id! I then went to get a quick nose ring change. I laid on the table, and she quickly changed my piercing without me feeling a thing. I always cringe a bit because I think it is going to hurt more than it does. She was such a sweetheart, and although I do not have anything else pierced, I almost wish I did, so that I would have more reasons to go back here.

Danae was awesome. I’ve had quite a few piercings before but I can tell you she was fully about education and getting it just right. I had her pierce my ears with 8ga. and the experience was wonderful.
I liked this place so much I came back for the follow-​up and got a triple forward helix by Jade. She was great. Evenly spaced and took great care in procedure.
