Shawn Michael Salon

This was my first visit to Shawn Michael salon, as I had a Groupon! I came in for a deep conditioning treatment and a hair cut, and Eric was my stylist. He was really friendly, helped me to decide how to cut my hair, and did a really great job.
My hair feels really light and he somehow managed to chop off all of my split ends and still keep my hair pretty long. I wasn’t sure about how to layer my hair, so I just told him to do whatever he wanted, and it turned out great.
Eric also gave me some tips about which products to use to keep my hair soft and shiny since, as my grandmother was always fond of saying, I have (super coarse) horse hair.
I’m definitely coming back next month to get some balayge color put in by Eric. He was super knowledgeable about the process and explained everything to me during this visit.

Had amazing experience… Eric was so nice and gentle with my hair… he confirmed from me first of vat i want rather than just going ahead and spoiling the look…
loved the soothing experience and fragrance of products he used…

Michael is amazing! I have extremely thick, frizzy & unruly hair. He has managed to not only tame it, but make it manageable & gorgeous. He prides himself on making his clients happy & his skills are on point. I’m super picky about who touches my hair & I trust Michael!

I came here today for the first time for the 60 minute custom facial. I’ve had A LOT of facials in my time, so I feel I am a pretty competent judge.
Veronica is a lovely lady. She is super sweet, knowledgeable, and has a great touch. That being said, the experience itself was underwhelming at best for the following reasons:
1. Ambience. The facial room is a tiny closet-​sized room right in the main salon, meaning you CAN HEAR EVERYTHING. The music, chairs scraping, people walking and laughing. I could hear every word of a conversation two hair stylists were having. It was SO DISTRACTING and really kept me from getting into the experience. Plus, the bed you lie on was super hard and uncomfortable which seems silly to note but if yo’re laying there for an hour it makes a difference. Veronica had music on to help with the mood but the salon was blasting theirs so loud it didn’t even matter.
2. Time. I got a 60 minute facial. At best, it was 40 mins. I love that Veronica wants to really learn about your skin, but we talked for a solid 8 – 10 minutes (mostly her telling me about everything I’ve done wrong to myself which was a little depressing). That plus paperwork, undressing/​dressing and her prep added up, and i was still in the lobby within 60 minutes.
3. The facial itself felt more like a massage than a facial. She sent soooo long on my scalp and neck just massaging while my face was in a towel. Granted it felt great, but she maybe used three products on my skin. There was no steaming, and the website says extractions which she even mentioned she could get rid of blackheads on my nose… well that never happened. I left with blackheads still there and present on my nose. I cannot stress how sad I was that they did no extractions.
I absolutely will not be back, but I do wish Veronica the best because she was a really cool lady.

I have been going to Michael for over 4 years. He is fantastic and always makes me feel at home when I’m there! I get my hair cut and colored, pedicures and acrylic nail sets all the time. He and his staff are amazing. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I hate giving bad reviews when I like the people. But this was the worst haircut I’ve ever received. I really liked Eric, and I liked my hair when I left. Until I got home and washed it and realized that one side is over an inch longer than the other side. I guess that’s what I get for being cheap and buying a groupon.

Abi, Abi, Abi, Abi! That girl. LOVE. I wanted about 12 inches chopped off. I showed her two different possible directions. She said I should go with choice B for x, y and Z reasons. Well i look amazing. Girl knows her stuff. She listened when I said my hair is wavy and that I dont do anything for it. She gave me a cut that will work with my waves and my laziness.
I WILL be back.

My #1 stylist in Austin! I like to play a lot with my hair and Michael has always accommodated and exceeded my expectations! He makes me look great everyone time I’m in! Highly recommended!

OK, people. I have hated my hair for 40 years. FORTY YEARS. It’s coarse, wiry, unruly and just generally funky. I came to Michael through a silly Groupon-​type deal — and THIS GUY HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. It might sound ridiculous, but it’s true. Michael and his staff are a total joy to do business with. Professionalism, skill and self esteem improvement abound here!

Shawn Michael Salon is the best!!! Michael is my nail guy and stylists. I drive an hour to have him take care of me because I know he will do a great job. I am extremely hard on my nails and he has been able to give me nails to make my hands look beautiful. I will not go anywhere else for a pedi because I know it will be very relaxing. He is very friendly and always ready to listen and chat. I have extremely curly hair and while it is a challenge he always exceeds my expectations. I cannot say it enough, I love Shawn Michael Salon.

Michael and his staff are just fabulous! They are professional, great at what they do, and they are just wonderful folks! I highly recommend them for haircuts, pedi/​manicure, facial, etc.

3 STARS IS FOR COMBINATION OF SERVICES — A 1 AND A 5
THE 5 STAR: Went here bc of Groupon for facial. Alas, don’t remember her name, long black hair and glasses. WONDERFUL! facial and massage, one of the best I’ve ever had on the massage part. Half way thru I told her I wanted to upgrade to the 90 min. Definitely will go back again for this part. She gave skin care recommendtaions – my skin looked very good.
Then she mentioned they had really great stylists, and it was my birthday, so I decided to chance it, Did I want a man or woman? «oh, I don’t know, maybe a man. Why don’t you decide.»
The 1 STAR: «They» decided I should see what turned out to be the stylist on his first day at their salon (tho in the biz for 15 years he said.) They could not have had any idea what kind of stylist he actually was, and did not take me as a person into account apparently.
He did Exactly the Opposite of what I asked for. I am in tears. It will take months and months to grow out the back which is almost I specifically said I didn’t want it short.awful. This didn’t just feel like a misunderstanding, it felt like «I like to cut this way so I’m going to.» Guys in the military have this kind of cut in the back, and I specifically said I didn’t want it short in back. Also he cut my hair in front so if I barely tip my head forward it falls. not on my forehead but. totally in my eyes. I’ve hadn’t had that happen in years so it’s not just my hatural wave or hair. I’m going to have to glue it down just so I can see. Except for that, I could be wearing a swimming cap. Really. I could. I’m devastated. I even had to go back in bc when I sat in the car I couldn’t see to put the key in the ignition without trying to scoop my hair out of my face. I told the receptionist and he went back and brought someone out who put some hair spray on, which didn’t help. I kept scooping it out of my face when I went to the restaurant. What am I going to do? I’m supposed to have a head shot publicity photo in the next week. Maybe all the hair in the face is a good thing.
It was my birthday, thought I might get a hand cream sample or a mint at least.

I went in for a deep condition, cut, and style with Abi. I wanted a big change, something easy for me to keep up with and style in the mornings. I explained what I had in mind and she recommended a cut based on my hair texture and face. I’m so glad I took her advice — my hair turned out great! She even showed me how to style it and explained which products I should use to create the same look at home.
The salon itself was also nice. The person who booked my appointment was pleasant and scheduled me for the next day. When I arrived, the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely be coming back.

I found this salon on Groupon. I schedule a haircut with Abi, and I am SO GLAD I did. I barely explained what I wanted, showed her a couple of photos and boom. She did exactly what I wanted. After a few days, my hair is still behaving the way I want it to and I couldn’t be happier. The staff is super nice too! Wish I could give it more stars :)

I literally just got out of the salon 15 mins ago, and I am in love! I found my hair stylist in Austin! I had a Groupon for a hair cut and deep conditioning and my stylist was Eric Martin. He was amazing! I plan on making him my hair stylist for a long time!
The receptionist was very friendly and offered sodas, water or coffee.
The whole atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming!

I had a Refresh Pedicure with Nicole using a Groupon I had purchased. She was excellent! Very fun to talk to, interesting, and accommodating. Just a very cool girl.
Just walking into the salon was a good experience. I was greeted with a smile and the ambiance was very nice and relaxing. Everyone here was very friendly and happy to see me.
The pedicure itself was good. It came with a salt-​scrub on my feet that I enjoyed. Besides that, it’s pretty much the basics. Lotion on the feet and legs. No massage or anything extra. But for $ 17 I couldn’t complain.

A refresh mani and pedi from Eric was an amazing experience. He is very personable and easy to talk to. He also does a very thorough job and makes sure that you leave with an amazing completed product. His is a service that others should strive to be and I will definitely be returning.

I had an amazing facial with Veronica today. Extremely relaxing and the use“glo” facial products! Wow! Then followed with shampoo and style, and a mani/​pedi. All I can say is it was a perfect afternoon. Great job Shawn Michael Salon, I’ll be back!

Aby is a great stylist that can cut to a photo if there is a style that you are looking for that you saw in a magazine or online. The rest of the staff was friendly and inviting. I have definitely found my new stylist and new salon. I would give 10 stars if I could!
