Shelton Pride Air Conditioning & Heating

About 6 months after our experience, my husband saw a Shelton Pride van in front of a neighbor’s house. The neighbor said they had been scammed too and had to call another company to actually do the repair work. Shameful.

If you don’t mind paying too much for things you don’t need, this is the company for you. I had to use them because my warranty company sent them out. They were on time, in and out and polite. It took several calls of them not fixing my problem, plus about $ 600 out of my pocket of doing things that would fix the problem, before I could get the warranty company to send someone else out. The other company told me that the cleanings I paid for were not done, which was evident because the units were still sealed and when he opened them he found the problem with the unit. Which was not dirt but that it was leaking inside. All that money wasted. I will never let my warranty company send them out again. Beware and Stay Away!

Great friends of mine and my partner organized a benefit on my behalf to offset my expenses. Art was donated and the proceeds went to my medical debts. CHAD SHELTON wrote a bad check and refuses to pay for the piece of art or return it. PLEASE DO NOT BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF!
Austin Friends: I hate posting something like this, but I’m hoping you can spread the word and protect people from getting swindled by this person– CHAD SHELTON. He purchased a piece of art that was donated to Orbit Salon, on behalf of my recovery with a bad check. When I contacted him, he assured me it wasn’t intentional and that he would make it right. I even suggested that if he wasn’t able to fund the check, to please return the art to the artist, my friend. He has stopped responding to me and seeing that he is a small business owner here in austin, I want to spread the word. PLEASE share this information. It seem’s he’s likely changed both the names of his businesses and their locations several times. His current business name is SHELTON’S PRIDE AIR CONDITIONING. Despite the addresss listed online, he gave me a work address of 8906 Wall Street, here in Austin. I would really appreciate your help sharing this information. And again, my apologies to my friend who’s art has been stolen.

They came to my house fast and in off hours when no other company would. Great price and excellent service. I would recommend them to anyone.

This company has changed to Empire Air Conditioning. Don’t use them! They didn’t even try to find the actual problem with my air conditioning and refused to come back out after they didn’t fix it.

We bought our house in 2007, and about 8 months later our AC started acting up. We called out a service guy, who went in the attic, took a look, and came right down asking questions about who installed the AC system. We told him that the previous homeowners had had Shelton’s Pride install the system, and he told us that we needed to call them to get back here because they had messed up on a few things, including not installing a plenum, which is required with every AC installation, and a major duct leak, which seemed to be caused by shoddy sealing. He told us that Shelton’s Pride really needed to review their own work. I called Shelton’s Pride, and the receptionist looked up the system and told us the «1-​year guarantee» had expired 5 months before. When I told her that a plenum was not installed and there was a major duct leak due to faulty sealing, she told me that if anyone came out to look at the system there would be a minimum $ 85 service charge as well as charging for anything they fixed. I told her to have the manager call me back, which he did, and he was even worse – he had no excuse for why the plenum was not installed and suggested WE had damaged our own duct (we never go up in the attic!!!). The name of this company is a JOKE – they have zero «pride» in their work! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. We ended up calling a different company to fix everything.

Our heat went out the beginning of Dec and we called AHS for service. They gave us one company who took forever to call us and then couldn’t fit us into their schedule. I called AHS back and asked to use my own vendor; they said they could not and gave us Shelton Pride. I balked at using them because of the low ratings here but AHS didn’t give us much choice and we had to get the heat fixed as the forecast was for freezing weather. Shelton Pride set up the appt. for the next day and Daniel came out right at the appointed time. I had made the appt. for 5:00 pm and despite the traffic and bad weather, he called and told me he was on the way. Daniel assessed the situation and immediately diagnosed the problem, which was a fairly easy one to fix. He was finished in about 30 minutes and was completely professional, knowledgeable and polite. Curious, I asked him about the low ratings on Unilocal and he said, unfortunately, people may have a bad experience with the home warranty company and transfer that unhappiness on to the Unilocal rating. At any rate, expecting the worst, I was completely surprised and if you do use Shelton Pride, make sure to ask for Daniel.

Not only has the work been incorrect, the office has been extremely unprofessional and rude through the process. Sarcastic, dry, unable to answer a straight question without the runaround or making the customer feel dumb. This is after 5 – 6 calls I’ve made requesting an update. It boiled down to a part that wasnt in. Well, its 30 degrees and I haven’t had heat in weeks. So I ask how to expedite the process and instead of explaining how it all works, she got frustrated with me for not knowing. I’m sorry but I can only know if I ask. The first 4 phone calls, I was nice and sweet. By the 5^th, I told them it was a shitty job and needed to be fixed. I was told to call the Home Warranty Company and have someone else do it. Turns out, that ‘someone else’ came to do the work and told me they can’t touch my units until Shelton’s Pride reverses the mess they made or it yields the warranty. So much for another company helping. When confronted about the attitude, I was given more and told I was the one with the problem. Excuse me? I’ve taken some rather harsh beatings from callers inclusive of very offensive language and I’ve never ever done anything but work with them to make it right or help them understand.
When asking for the manager, I got «I am the manager». When asking for corporate, I got «this is it».
Thanks for nothing.

I had Shelton’s Pride out today to look at our heater. Nothing like the other reviews. The service tech was knowledgable and very informative. He was able to fix the problem in a good time frame. I would definately call him back if we ever had a problem again.

Called on a Tuesday and here we are on Saturday with no A/​C.
Our landlord uses American Home Sheild, who sent us these idiots.
Took them 2 days to get someone out there and the fix only lasted a few hours. We are 4 nights out of the house because of the 105 degree heat.
The lady who answers the phone is rude, unhelpful and a downright liar. Told me a window of 9 — 1 today and then told my husband that they don’t give windows for techs to arrive.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Call a reputable company.
UPDATE — Wednesday of the next week and still no A/​C. Found out yesterday (a week later) that we need a new unit. Shelton’s should have had that figured out last week. Turned in a complaint to the BBB and I’m sure we’ll get even better service now. Another promise that we’ll get a unit on day 9. We’ll see…

This Company is one of the most poorly managed, and least customer-​service-​oriented businesses I’ve ever dealt with. Less than 2 yr old unit which Shelton’s installed failed 2 wks ago [and by the way, 3 months after initial installation, I was still begging them to complete their unfinished job]. I remember them repeatedly telling me that they have 24 hr emergency service, so I immediately gave them a call upon mid-​evening return from trip when I discovered unit not working. I got routed to an individual at answering service, who told me she’d track down someone. Mid-​day of following day I’d heard nothing, so I called them back. Absolutely clueless and inept young lady at company tells me she’ll «go check the messages», later telling me she’ll have someone call me. Mid-​day of next day, I call back and ask what status is — same girl asks me «did you make an appt?» I said that I assumed that by virtue of the fact that I told them my unit was not working and that it was 88 degrees in my house, that was a request for a service visit. Apparently not, as she indicated to me that she’d put me at bottom of waiting list, but that they were then making appts for 3 days out. I ask her «could you please just have one of your technicians just call me, on the off chance that perhaps there is something easy I can check (ie, breaker, etc). Seemingly very confused by this request, she says she’ll try, then she says that if I needed someone quicker, I could call «Homeshield», and she gives me a number I tried unsuccessfully to call for one hour. I later do some research and find out this warranty service company is a scam, and was more than a little upset that I’ve been pushed off on them by the company which installed my unit and which received almost $ 10K of my money. So much for loyalty, huh?
Let me cut to chase — no technician ever called me, despite 3 clear and simple requests. It would have taken someone 2 minutes to call me and quickly go through their checklist to see if there might be possibility of simple fix. No one ever would follow up to see if I was getting assistance. Just like after installation 18 months ago, the burden was ALWAYS with me to make the call to them, to follow up, to BEG for any responsiveness. I ended up cancelling request for service, and I was not surprised that they did not inquire as to whether I found alternative service. Another company (Tx AC Specialist) came out very quickly after my call to them, immediately found problem (fan motor fried), confirmed warranty and had all work done within 24 hrs of my initial call to them. Thank you Tx AC Specialist!
I don’t know if this company simply does not have enough employees to handle its work, or something else, but it is clearly incapable of providing reliable after-​the-​sale service/​maintenance to its customers, or perhaps they have decided it is simply not profitable to return for warranty work or to complete jobs for which they’ve already been paid. It is also in very urgent need of hiring a capable, articulate person to handle calls and arrange for service visits… one who cares just a little more, and who FOLLOWS UP to make sure customer is being taken care of! I still cannot believe that in the 3 days of dealing with them on this matter, with the number of calls from ME to them totaling 6 – 7, I never once received a return call from them, despite the fact that every message I left with them concluded with «still not able to sleep at house… please let me know status»

I’ve been waiting since ⁷⁄₀₉ for a service call scheduled Friday. It’s now Monday 7 – 11 @ 315pm — the other service company that I called has come and gone. Home Sheild referral to them is NOT recommended. Irene their receptionist mis-​informed us and told us «12 noon» I’m reasonable — but when I called to confirm @ 12pm. She informed me that it was a «PM» call — anytime after 12pm. I asked does that mean 12pm to 1159 — she confirmed yes. They only take calls until 7pm. She was less than sympathatic and never offered to call the tech or to see if this was urgent. Yes I am grumpy and will never refer anyone to this company. I only cx’d my appt so that the next person might get a faster appt. Texas 100 degree heat and they are funneled referals from Home Shield — they could afford some more help and happier receptionist. BBB rated does not always mean they are superior.

This company sucks and did not fix my AC. Left me hanging in 100 degree heat and I had to get emergency service through American Home Shield. Do not use!!!

I had a good experience with Shelton’s Pride and was particularly impressed with the knowledge of the service tech, and the price they quoted me for replacement of my a/​c system was fair. Installation was performed as scheduled, and we have had no problems so far — unit was put in this past summer. Fortunately, I didn’t have the negative experience other reviewers seem to have had.

a guy from shelton’s pride was sent out to my house to check out my ac unit, which was sometimes not cooling like it should. the guy came out and hemmed and hawed at me about how the unit was in pretty bad shape and it would be a $ 700 dollar maintenance job (just cleaning, not replacing any parts) but that he would «do me a favor» and «knock down the price» to $ 450. then he tried to sell me a maintenance contract on top of that.
i declined the work and called another guy who came highly recommended from a friend. he came out and told me the unit was fine, just a little dirty. he cleaned it out, showed me what he cleaned out of it, gave me some tips on how to keep it running as well and charged me 150 bucks. he was in and out in an hour and a half. my ac has never been better.

I contacted Shelton’s Pride in search of a central dehumidifier (runs about $ 3,500/piece) for our 6 AC units, you’d think that would be sufficient work for these folks (and money).
The day of our appointment, the owner called to let me know that if our AC units were working properly, there should be no need for a central dehumidifier and suggested they come out to check our units first. They then rescheduled our appointment for the following day.
After the technician inspected our units, he came to notify me that the compressor in one of them was out. The unit was working fine just before he arrived! After he left, the temp in our master bedroom began to climb… I called the next morning to determine what we needed to do to beat the heat. The lady on the phone informed me they would not be able to come out that day and tried to schedule me for a later date. I explained that I would not take one more night in the heat, and I’d call someone else to fix it. they suddenly had a technician that could come out that day and replace the part for $ 1,800.00!
I called my handyman (who dabbles in AC repair). After 10 minutes, he discovered a screw to the connector plate was loosened, which was why the AC unit was not turning on! Explaining there was «NO WAY» that could have happened on it’s own and charged me $ 20 for the visit.
I called Shelton’s Pride back the same day, explained what had happened and asked the receptionist to have the owner call me, a week later. I still haven’t heard from him (no surprise).

I have used Shelton’s Pride several times and they have always been very responsive and helpful.

I was already planning to get another company to do more extensive work later in the week, but a compressor fan motor failed that Sunday and it was a very hot day indeed. This guy said he had the part on the truck. He didn’t. He then proceeded to charge me $ 49.95 for doing nothing except writing an invoice. He said he could get the little fan motor later, but it would cost $ 410. I can get the same thing for $ 90! I declined and ended up fixing it myself. There is no way I would use this company. In my personal opinion they are a complete rip off.
