Bring a Korean friend or someone in the know. Food was great and a great deal for lunch. Though I’m not sure what all I ate.

Shilla is NOTCLOSED — same location, same management, same menu, same staff… new name: Haeundae Galbi. Same delicious, delicious Korean BBQ.

I don’t know why there’s reviews raving about the unlimited Korean BBQ here. Y’all haven’t been to OMI in Dallas nor Ktown in los angeles for the real experience. Take it from 5 Korean ladies, we were NOT impressed. They charge $ 20.99 and it doesn’t even include galbi meat. Everything else seems to be an extra charge. We were really hesitant at first but decided to give it a try since all people in the party need to do the unlimited buffet and I was the odd one out not wanting to do the buffet. The waitresses are also a bit pushy, I guess it’s because there weren’t many patrons there and seeing us was money in the bank for them. The side dishes are bland and fermented. The meats we had were thin sliced rib eye, slices of pork belly, marinated beef and marinated pork. We only really liked the marinated beef, the rest was not very good quality. You end the meal with sweet rice drink which was ok but again, not the best I’ve had. Service was not very attentive ether, and there was no one else in the restaurant. We will not come back here again. Sorry Shilla, you need to try the Omi experience and see how much better the food quality is and apply to your restaurant.

Was gonna go to Chosun(which I have come to really like) when I read the reviews for this restaurant and decided to give them a shot. The All-You-Can-Eat BBQ intrigued me. Went for an early Sunday evening dinner and we were the only people there. The waiter was very young and was not very fluent in English. He got by ok and managed to take pretty good care of us. No complaints there on service. Food: We decided to go with the All-You-Can-Eat BBQ for two. It was about $ 20 per person but I can tell you that we could not finish what was brought out during the first round. With the ‘condiments’, kimchi pancake and the meats. It was quite substantial. I was hungry too having skipped lunch earlier in the day. The main meat plate consisted of 2 different cuts of thinly sliced raw beef(they were quite fatty but had nice flavor. You had to barely kiss them on the grill or they’ll be rather tough), marinated chicken, beef and pork, and some sliced onions and sweet potatoes. Overall as I mentioned it was quite a spread and we could barely finish it. We did however ask for more of the squid and radish spicy kimchi and some more sweet potatoes. I would go there again if I had a bunch hungry guys that needed to be entertained as you certainly get your value if you are a big eater. Compared to Chosun, Shilla’s price was a bit higher per head but the items are re-fillable and the variety of first round meats greater. Chosun’s a-la-cart BBQ was slightly cheaper but was honestly more than enough for the likes of me. Atmosphere and ambience: I prefer Chosun, but that is just personal preference as Shilla was not shabby. I would go there again. Price and variety of the BBQ being of good value. Have not tried the other menu items yet.

I was in this neck of the woods and said«first restaurant we see, we’re eating at», because hunger was now in control and overriding all decisions. So, with no preference, no expectations, I walked into Shilla, which initially made the impression of one of those dime-a-dozen Chinese buffets. Tacky signs and décor galore. Despite a consensus that the service isn’t great here, I found our service to be pretty darn good. I ordered the kimchi soup, and on looks alone, I wasn’t very thrilled — but man was it delicious. Nice touch of spice, a plethora of textures, hit the nail on the head! I gotta say the prices were a step higher than they needed to be, but over all, I really liked this place. Couldn’t do much better for a place chosen at random.

This is typical korean bbq, although a bit on the ‘meh’ side. The meat wasn’t the tastiest I’ve had at Korean BBQ, but for the price, it was pretty good. The ban chan wasn’t as complete as some of the other KBBQ places I’ve been to, but on par with many korean BBQ places. We did the«B» combo for 4 people, and found it to be a good amount of food for our lighter appetites. The service wasn’t fantastic, but that’s how most korean BBQ places are in general. That’s why there’s a buzzer that you can push to get service. The one disappointment was the bibimbap. Typically, it comes as a cooked rice concoction with some ‘mix-ins’ in a stone pot, but here, we seemed to only get the mix-ins and not the cooked rice. Very odd, but maybe my expectations were off. The food wasn’t terrible, just not quite what I expected.

The workers suck. Don’t be tricked by their initial kindness because once you eat enough that they’re losing profit, they start slowing down their service exponentially. What took only 2 minutes to bring out a plate of meat suddenly becomes half a freaking hour. This I’d assuming you’re going here for the unlimited BBQ. Seriously, if you’re gonna make it unlimited but waste my time, have fun getting a drastically reduced tip. I can’t say much for their entrees but if you’re coming for BBQ, please, save your money and go somewhere else.

This is a traditional Korean restaurant. Their service caterers more to an older Korean generation than young adults. I have absolutely no problem with that except that meant that what is usually a 1 hour lunch break turned into 2.5 hours. There was a total of 2 seated tables when we came in(~10 people) and while we were there, another table was seated. There was one waitress for the entire lunch period. She sat us relatively quickly and then got us our drinks. Afterwards, we called her over to order and she stopped in the middle of us ordering to help another customer. She came back, finished that person’s order and then someone walked in! She quickly rushed over to seat them and got their water. We were interrupted three times before finishing our order and we had to use the«call» button after a 10 minute interval… The waitress spoke limited English but did apologize at the very end for the long wait. I can’t speak for the BBQ since I didn’t have it(but I will definitely return for BBQ). I ordered off the menu and found their Korean food to be good, decent but not something for me to drive all the way up here for. Maybe the Korean BBQ will be better?

I was raised in a traditional Texas, meat and potato family. Honestly. Mom didn’t cook anything else but meat and potato’s for just about every meal of my youth. I now enjoy many types of fine food’s. I usually wind up cooking the most intriguing dishes that appeal to me. Thank you Food Network and Cooking Channel. However, I’ve never really found Asian food to spark my interest in the way that BBQ, Mexican, Regional Italian, Mediterranean or Seafood has. I’ve been to Benihana, PF Chang’s, China Town and many a strip mall Asian restaurant. And I know I need to venture out more. My god! I’ve never had sushi! I can’t eat anything raw or undercooked. It’s a yuck factor I developed at an early age because I don’t want to get sick or dead. But I’m trying REALHARD! Wound up at Shilla /Korean BBQ for lunch the other day with the work crew. I really enjoyed my meal. I kept it simple and ordered the spicy chicken lunch plate. The chicken had great tangy flavor but wasn’t as spicy as I like. The side of soup was good too. Mi so /miso I think? Also came with a small salad, a few fried veggies and rice. There were some small plates of food brought to the table also. I had kimchi for the first time. I really enjoyed my lunch hour here and will certainly go again. ‘Cause I’m trying!

This review is a little overdue but I feel I have to put it out there… I work a few minutes from Shilla and was excited to discover the place and add it to the regular lunch rotation. My coworkers and I started becoming regulars, really enjoying the lunch box offerings that were a great value for a good portion size of really tasty food. The chicken and pork bul go gi were consistently very good and the ban chan were always interesting and enjoyable. One afternoon we stopped for lunch and had a good experience as usual. The service can sometimes be a little slow but overall we’re patient and it was really not an issue. I usually pay with card but on this particular day I had cash and decided to pay my portion of the check that way. When we split the check at the register, I paid my part of the bill while my friend did the same. Being out of my usual routine as someone who rarely ever pays for anything cash, I am used to putting my tip amount on the credit card receipt and going about my way. It didn’t occur to me that I had accidentally taken my change and neglected to leave a tip behind. I always believe in tipping, as anyone who frequents any dining establishment should, of course based on their discretion of the service they received. This particularly day, in chatting with my friend while checking out and I made an honest mistake and forgot, my fault but it wasn’t intentional. As we were walking back towards my car to leave, the woman who cashed us out came out in the parking lot and literally yelled at me for not tipping. I was caught off guard as this has never happened to me before? I’m actually being verbally scolded in a public parking lot in front of other people for not tipping? Seriously? I didn’t appreciate being treated like I tried to skip out on a check and it certainly wasn’t my intention to short change the wait staff by any means. While one part of me was so furious I almost drove off, I did the honest thing and apologized and gave her the tip I mistakenly forgot, which she promptly took and went back inside without even saying thank you. My friend and I were rather shocked and just laughed it off as me being dumb and forgetting to tip and went about our day. The more I thought about it though, it really bothered me. So overall, the food was consistently good although there was an issue with the iced water. I generally drink water with lunch since I drink coffee all morning. The water seriously tasted like dirty dish water on a few occasions. Unfortunately though, I’ll never give this place my business again. There’s many other places in this part of town that have good food and actually treat their like they appreciate their business.

First of all, this restaurant is a joke. Five of us went for dinner and we order unlimited, endless whatever you call, Korean BBQ. Korean people likes pork belly and every Korean restaurant has menu. Pork belly was one of the five meats they bought, but it is not real pork belly. It is pork but belly part. I would say it is fake pork belly. I never seen any Korean restaurant serving such a cheap, fake one as pork belly in Korean restaurant in US. And all other meat, beef and chicken are well below what I expected. Another terrible thing is Kimchi. It is not even close to any kind of Kimchi. I can make better Kimchi than this. This tasted so bad. All five of us got really disappointed. Guess what, the bill came up with automatic 18% tip because we were group of five. Are you kidding me? We were only group of five. Of course, I will not go back to this restaurant ever again.

I would rate the food at 4 stars. But the service was surprisingly amazing! Who would have thought you could receive good service at an Asian restaurant? That’s 5 stars for me. Fyi, the restaurant is located in the Lincoln shopping center, near Highland Mall.

So, found my way to Shilla once again, this time to try the endless korean bbq. How can you go wrong with bbq? especially Korean… no way! The meats are cut thinly, but you can order as many times are you want(certain cuts). The lettuce and rice are not complimentary like any other bbq… there is a charge for the lettuce, but they were nice to only do so once. On the other hand, they do have plenty banchan to accompany the meal. Especially liked that they brought us «kimchi pancake», very nice! They stopped various times to check we had everything we needed and to make small talk. They were nice and attentive on a chilled Sunday afternoon. It was a good meal overall, chadolbaeki, plenty samgyupsal(pork belly, yum yum…), bulgogi, dweji bulgogi, the only item that I wasnt really crazy about was the chicken. Other than that, it was a nice filling meal. The buffet meals are paid per person and applies to everyone who is seating with you despite you eating or not the meat. For an unlimited A is about 30 bucks and B is 20 bucks. It is moderate pricing, compared to other meat buffets such as estancia or fogo. It is a different feel, definitely worth trying once and you be the judge. The only difference, this place only brings out certain meats back out to you as you order and it is cooked at the table. The other places are already cooked and you just flip cards to request more or simply ask someone to bring you a specialty out.

Great prices and great food although diminished from my earlier visits. On earlier visits I had the sashimi which was excellent… now I would only rate it average. That’s too bad because tis hidden restaurant is a gem. I spend $ 6.99 for a box-lunch which came with Korean small dishes… the whole bill, with tax, was $ 8!!!

I went with a friend for lunch a few days ago(4th of July barbecue, anyone?). We ended up ordering the lunch BBQAYCE, though there appeared to be many options for lunch that looked appealing. The lunch BBQ is a little less expansive(and expensive) than the larger of the two dinner options; it excluded kalbi, in particular. The onion salad was quite nice, with just the right amount of bite. The rest of the banchan was a little underwhelming, though some of it was decent. I didn’t much care for the kimchee, which seemed a little underfermented for me(it was still pretty grainy from the paste and the fish flavor was pretty aggressive). The konjac was tasty, though, as were the soy beans and a couple others. The first round of meat came out with thin-sliced sirloin, pork belly, and marinated pork and chicken. After that, we were told we could order up to three of our favorites. We were done after that, though I’m sure we could’ve ordered more. Meat quality was decent, though I missed the aforementioned kalbi. Service seemed pretty good. My friend’s water came out a little murky and tasting faintly of barley, so I’m not sure what the story was there. Our actual waiter seemed to only kind of understand the grilling philosophy, but there was an older woman who was very helpful(that or just impatient with watching a white boy do it «wrong»). At the end of service, they brought out a little trimmed wedge of watermelon, which tickled me. Basically, I’ve had better barbecue and much better banchan, but overall it was quite good and not a bad price.

Near the incredibly nasty Travel Lodge(see review; no seriously, read it) is this place. We trolled up and down the nearby street and Unilocal brought us outta towners here. Really complete menu; they had sushi, crab soup(with mega huge crab parts requiring tools to break), and little skillets of hot beef. Delicious. The service was good, though the prices are a little on the steep side. As mentioned in the crab description, this place doesn’t serve your garden variety Panda Express grub. My friend didn’t know how to eat crab in it’s natural shelled state and was perplexed. I say her first clue should’ve been when it was a like a $ 9 soup, but consider yourself warned.

This restaurant gets 5 stars for tastiness of food and value and 1 star for really bad negligent service. GODURINGLUNCH for their specials! For $ 9, I got a bento box of: Korean Beef Ribs — sliced and grilled Scoop of Rice Eggroll Miso Soup 4 pieces of Cali Roll Salad with Ginger Dressing Assorted Pickled Accoutrements — cucumbers, sprouts, watercress, kimchi, some weird soy thing, potato For $ 9, you also get a waiter that takes your order and never returns. When I asked for a to-go box, I got one, and it was teeny tiny. I tried to ask for another, but the waitress never came back. I waited over 10 minutes for them to bring me my check, which never came. I finally just left some cash on the table and walked out. Don’t worry, I still left a tip.

It’s been a rough day, so the thought of another serving of venison chili from the freezer was just plain saddening. Shilla is around the corner, and a really spicy, strongly-flavored, hot Korean soup sounded like a welcome relief. I went with the lowest-calorie option, the kimchi chigae, and it was decent, essentially a thin tomato base(very bright, ‘tomatoey’ taste), lots of kimchi, a couple slices of mandoo, and a couple strips of tofu. The side dishes were fine, particularly the fish cake, but I miss the little fish from Korea Garden(closed) and the candied potato at Korea House. You also get some cool side dishes at Korean Grill on North Lamar, but these were all standard. I ordered the soup ‘very spicy’, but I think they went easy on me and just chopped an extra jalapeño into it. I was expecting hotter, but still wouldn’t have poured it into my eye to win a bet. $ 7.52 was a pretty fair price for a lunch soup, six small side dishes, and rice. I didn’t make the mistake of ordering soju, Korean vodka, like last time. I’d been expecting a shot-sized portion, but they brought out a 375ml(12.7oz) bottle and a shot glass. They really should put serving sizes and prices on their menu’s drinks section — getting through that bottle over lunch was tough. Will I go back? Sure, but not until I’ve hit another weight loss milestone, because I want to try the kalbi and the pancake appetizer! Not a complaint, just fair warning: some of the chairs in the dining room are on the weak side, rocking alarmingly from side to side. If you’re my size, you could sit wrong and get a free meal. Well, maybe a free bowl of rice.

I had lunch here with my neighbor, her daughter and her daughter’s friend who is Korean. I’ve know these fun girls since they were in elementary school so I knew it would be a great time. Thankfully we had someone who could translate the menu and food to us and then our questions back to the server. There is not much English spoken here. We each started with a bowl of warm flavorful miso soup and moved quickly to a wonderful appetizer of stir fried rice cakes and spicy sauce. Delicious. I loved the sweetness and the spiciness of this dish. I ordered the BulGoKi, a marinated shredded rib eye. It was tender and good but a little sweet. As the meal progressed I learned that some Korean foods lean towards being sweet.(Like me.) Because we all ordered the lunch special, our meals came with an array of marinated vegetables, sushi and rice dishes. I tried everything and even took a bite of the sushi. Ugh. I don’t understand the love for something that tastes like a fisherman’s foot. Please don’t ask me to taste any more!!! I do want to return and be a little more adventurous with the menu options. Just don’t expect me to eat the sushi.

Fo Shillaaaaaa’ is cruuuuuuunk. I love Korean food, so it takes a lot to win me over. I judge it to a higher standard. Gal Bi passed with flying colors. The Short Ribs were thinly sliced and marinated to sweet and salty perfection. The Bulgoki was OK, but I prefer Korea House’s. The Gal Bi Tang is perfect for those who do not want to be bogged down by glorious helpings of meat. It is a LIGHT soup entrée with short ribs, eggs, green onions and(not much) Noodles. The Gal Bi Chim, Short Ribs and some vegetables soaked in a soupy marinade. is.SO.FLAVORFUL.AND.FRAKING.DELICIOUS. The sides are great as well! There is a bigger assortment of fresh side dishes unlike many other Korean restaurants. The customer service is spotty. The first time we went and could not find our waitress. The next time, it was A+++. Also, I would have no problem licking the floors of Shilla, because this restaurant is CLEAN.
