Skillpoint Alliance is a 501©(3) that provides job-​skills training, computer literacy education, STEM initiatives and youth programs in Central Texas. Its goal is to build partnerships among industry, education and the community, leading to college and career success for Central Texans, while meeting employers’ needs for a qualified workforce.

History

Established in 1994.

Skillpoint Alliance was originally founded as the Capital Area Training Foundation (CATF), which was created in 1994 to address what the founders saw as a gap between employers’ needs and the workforce’s skills.

As was true then, Austin continues to experience tremendous economic growth and the accompanying demand for highly-​skilled workers. While this growth has resulted in prosperity and financial security for many, under-​skilled Central Texans without the high tech, science, math and communication skills required by today’s workforce are unable to gain successful entry to Austin’s growing and emerging industries. At the same time, local employers require an adequately trained workforce to continue growing in this competitive economy.
