Dr Colorado was great and so were the two Sonias. I got my eye exam for Glaucoma and for contact lenses there. I don’t have glaucoma! So that’s great. My new contacts are great, but I still think I’m going to tru another kind nest week. Also, I went down to the Congress location to get my glasses done there. They were super cool and really nice. That’s mostly what I go for, so… yep, these guys are great and nice too.

This place lived up to the reviews. Staff was efficient and friendly. My only beef was when I asked if they were running on time for our 4 PM appointment which was minutes away. I was told yes. Really it was 30 minutes late! But worth the wait! The testing, information and professional help was awesome! These appointments were for my 2 kids. Next it is my turn!

I’ve been going here for about three years. Though my eyes seem to be getting somewhat worse (booooo) these folks are always great.
Making an appointment is easy and they’ll remind you a couple of times so you don’t forget. Their selection of eyewear is good but if you prefer to order from the internet, they’ll take a look at what you’ve received and tell you whether they’ve done the right scrip. I appreciate that they’re efficient and will email me my prescription if I need it.

This place has no transparency whatsoever and no consideration for your time. They forget to include insurance discounts on my bill and neglected to tell me to bring my contacts in for your annual visit. Which means I had to come back, and then came back AGAIN because they kept forcing me to be examined for contacts before placing the order — 4 times and I wasn’t even getting a different type of contact. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Did I mention they charge a $ 135 contact fitting fee that is not covered by insurance?

Really great team of people. I went in with a popped vessel & they put me at ease.

Great friendly staff. Was at appointment about 2:50 for my 3:00 appointment and the technician saw me right away, did the tests and then told me to wait for the Dr. The Dr. came in within a minute and listened to my concerns and was very nice and professional. Very efficient office and staff. Love my new contacts and will be getting glasses there within a week! Highly recommended!

I saw Dr. Richards at the Rosedale location. She was quick and efficient, and I felt comfortable the whole time. I’m not a big fan of eye exams but this was the most comfortable I’ve been in the 5 years I’ve been getting glasses. They had a good selection of frames and despite being told it would take a week or two to get them in (I think), they came in just a few days. Will definitely get my next pair of glasses there.

My eye exam went alright, but the front desk people screwed a lot up and made things really difficult.
They gave me a glasses prescription instead of a contact prescription so when I went to order contacts I looked like a dufus. So then I went back to them and just ordered my contacts through them, and they never contacted me to tell me they were ready to pick up like they said they would.
Just a pain in the ass experience.

I have never met anyone with a higher prescription than me. I have been wearing huge glasses and /​or serious contacts since kindergarten. As such, eye appointments have always been a source of anxiety. I always braced myself to find out how much worse my eyes had gotten and what that meant in terms of new, expensive eyewear needs.
When I discovered Stars in Your Eyes years ago, I had a truly different experience. I felt a sense of relief that the person giving me the exam understood what I was going through and would take care to give me the best options available.
I have always received very accurate prescriptions and advice that other optometrists have never even mentioned as possibilities. Dr. Matthys even identified the beginnings of a small retinal tear and referred me to a specialist to close up the tear before it could become more advanced. I had never had an optometrist take so much time to explain the repercussions of having poor eyesight and the potential dangers of a paper thin retina. I could have lost my eyesight if I had gone to anyone else.
This might sound sensational, but I am truly so grateful. I highly recommend their services, especially to those who have very advanced prescriptions and want the comfort of knowing they are in the hands of a trustworthy provider. I don’t know what I’ll do if I ever move away from Austin.

Just for clarity’s sake, this is a review of regular Stars in Your Eyes on Hancock, I did not utilize the Vision Training Center.
That being said… this place is wonderful! I was referred here by a coworker and was able to get an appointment in less than one week. When I arrived this morning, I was taken into an exam room early and examined right away. Once the technician (apologies if this is not the right term) left and the doctor arrived, I was again examined promptly and thoroughly.
After I got my prescription, I was taken into the frame room to shop with Nathaniel, the Optician. He looked up my benefits and helped me find some TOMS frames that were exactly what I asked for (unique, but budget friendly). While I was offered light weight lenses and protective coatings, it was never pushy or sales-​y.
The service here is far and away the best I have ever had at an eye doctor, and it comes with a cute Austin-​y shopping experience. All in all, fantastic experience here and would recommend to anyone!

For 600+ you can get an eye exam, new lenses that take two full weeks, require going to two different locations, and still not be right.
Highlights:
— 2+ weeks for lenses to come in

The whole point of going to was to get replacement lenses for the progressives I’d bought elsewhere; the coating on the lenses was coming off, but unfortunately wasn’t apparent until after the warranty was up. My old place changed ownership so it was time for a new place.
The pecked-​to-​death-​by-​ducks syndrome started from the first call. I get that they might not be open the day after Thanksgiving, and that I had to call a second time that next week. I get that the «new» front desk staff might stumble (it took several minutes to finally get told they couldn’t find my records that didn’t exist because it was my first appointment). But they have a chronic problem with not listening and mistaking enthusiasm for customer service.
I’ll also let it slide that it was good to see me again when I’d never met the optician. And initially I could overlook the «your records will stay with you» spiel for their pricey Optimap instead of dilation. Sure they’ll stay with me –just not to their other location — the only one that cuts lenses.
I got the call the lenses were finally in yesterday; I’ve worn glasses for more than two decades, and my scrip has never been in stock, but it’s never taken more than a week to get the lenses in. Lenses which I was told were «comparable» to the previous lenses, but I’m pretty sure were an upsell, but OK, I can accept that since it was only 13 months for the last lenses to have major issues, and it was impacting my vision.
The voicemail said included that the only times to come in were either today or tomorrow, as next week was not «possible,» and, «that way I’ll be sure to know when you’re coming and block out other jobs.» So I scheduled the time. At the downtown location, requiring I take time off work.
Apparently my definition of «block out» is different. I was told it would take 45 minutes because the guy cutting lenses said, he was «rather involved.»
They were slightly adjusted, and still a problem, so it was suggested I try them and then come back after next week. These are not my first glasses or progressive lenses; I not only have to look at things precisely head on, I have to tilt my head back to see close to clear as I type this, or looking across the room. I didn’t have that problem with my old lenses, even though this supposedly is a mild change from my last prescription. I’ve got the headache to go with it.
Now I have to decide if it’s worth missing work to go back downtown to get my old lenses put back ink, and whether or not it’s worth the fight to try to get the lens portion of refunded. Somehow I doubt they’ll do it. But if I don’t get the lenses swapped back out, I have more than a week to put up with these new lenses.
It’s been an expensive lesson in the difference between a transaction and a customer. Stars in Your Eyes made sure this was just a prolonged, costly, and annoying transaction.

So yes, I did find my new optometrist last year and proceeded with my annual appointment this year. I got to see Dr. Colorado again, and again and again and again. My eyes are divas will only settle for the best and newest brand of contacts, still. Go figure. Dr. Colorado was determined to find me a brand of daily contacts that I not only could tolerate, but that I loved. And we finally found the perfectr match. Each time I tried out some new trials, she would see me to view them on my eyes to make sure there were no issues with suctioning onto my eyes. She is very knowledable in finding the right contact brand and fit for her clients. She is also very energetic and I love that. If you are looking for a new optometrist, need glasses or contacts then look no further than Stars In Your Eyes. I highly recommend them for everything.
I feel like I’m on that TV show Cheers, where everyone knows your name when I come here. I’ve been in time and time again for different reasons (getting my glasses refit, picking contact trials, purchasing contacts, returning contacts, several follow up appointments) and I almost fee like the ladies here should be totally annoyed and fed up with my diva eyes. But they aren’t, or if they are then they hide it and don’t make me feel bad for my constant needy eyes. And it makes me feel good to know that they are dedicated to helping me find what is right for me.
Fact: There is a $ 60 contact lens fitting fee, that lasts 3 months and you can come in as many times as needed during that time for follow ups without an additional charge.

I really like Stars in Your Eyes … guess that explains the 5 star review. It does cost more than my past optometrists but I think they are worth it. They are worth it because of their attention to detail and profession behaving staff. They run a tight ship.

I’ve gone to the downtown location of Stars in Your Eyes for years. Absolutely love the place and always recommend them. Due to my job location, this was a bit more convenient so I thought I would switch locations when it came time to get some prescription glasses.
The staff was super-​nice. I hit it off with the woman in the glasses area and really appreciated her opinion and feedback on the different pairs I tried. Everyone I came into contact was wonderful and I believe the actual eye doc was the same one I had seen at the downtown location.
And now for the but, and why I can’t give them 5 stars. My appointment ended up lasting over 2 hours. For a basic exam. Nothing odd that would require more time. In fact, most of that time was just me waiting for someone to show up and perform their service. It was later explained that someone had an eye emergency and that held the doc up. But, even when selecting frames, after I had already been there an hour and a half, folks would walk in randomly to pick up their glasses. Each time, the person helping me would get up and help them, leaving me waiting because by this time she was just entering in my selection and telling me what I owed. This made what should have taken 10 – 15 minutes last about 30 minutes (maybe longer – but I don’t want to exaggerate) and I was already really late for work.
Normally I would give a place like this a really low rating due to this experience. However, everyone was apologetic about the emergency, and I really did like the staff and how they interacted with me. Also, they have one of the best glasses selections in Austin.
I ended up with an amazing pair of sunglasses that they somehow got to work with my special eyes. Very happy with the end result.

I’ve been a patient here for years (note that I was first to review this place). My recent experience with a really scary eye injury bumped ‘em over the top for me.
They were great about getting me in every day for a WEEK to fix the problem and get me on the road to healing. It was expensive (even with insurance) but well worth it.
And shortly thereafter, I decided to do my regular vision checkup. In light of the injury and changing eye needs, I needed some special consideration and help, and they have been great about it.
Their eyeglass selection is interesting (and expensive, mostly), but I have only once in all these years found a pair here I wanted. They’re good about giving me a prescription so I can take it elsewhere. That has been a challenge at other eye offices.

Stars in Your Eyes is a total gem, one that I’m glad I scouted several eyeglass places in Austin for to find these beautiful shelves of hip glasses. Honestly, I hit up about 4 or 5 glasses shops in Austin looking for the best selection and honestly the cheapest prices, and found the best variety and reasonable prices at the Stars in your Eyes on Hancock. You can imagine my excitement!
First of all, Vickie, who works in the glasses area is a total sweetie, was super helpful without being a typical glasses-​hawk that watches you try on everything, and was knowledgeable about typical ranges of prices of glare-​free lenses, what kind of frames look good on my face, etc. Plus she didn’t pressure me at all to buy the thinner lenses or to spend money that I didn’t want to.
Second of all, the variety here was awesome. Not only did they take VSP, which is what I have, but their line of rare French-​brand Lafont glasses were sweet eye-​candy. (oh, an eccentric artist’s foreign dream!) I had a lot of trouble deciding between a pair of stoic Dolce & Gabbana’s, a dark-​rimmed retro Betsy Johnson, a flicked-​out feminine pair of Rayban’s, and a librarian pair of Rayban’s. (I know, since you were wondering.) The prices were all pretty close together, in the $ 140 – 150’s for the Rayban’s and low $ 200’s for the others, but since I’m cheap and wanted the best deal I decided on one of the Rayban’s and ended up only paying about $ 30 with my insurance, with transition lenses included. Definitely made a mental note to come back next year so I could pick up one of the other frames that I fell in love with.
Their staff is super friendly and helpful, and one time I called them and their phone system was out of whack, but I tried again and it was fine. I came here only to pick out frames, but totally recommend this place to anyone that is and might consider getting my eyes checked here. Definitely check it out if you’re considering different eye places in Austin for frames!
