Steiner Ranch Dermatology

I am very happy I found this doctor. I think he is great for cosmetic concerns, I do not know as a dermatologist. I believe he is honest and he knows what is good for you. I am always happy with the results.

I have been pleased with Dr Lain until this week. I asked the local Walgreens to refill my long term prescription from Dr Lain. They told me that Dr Lain declined to renew my prescription that I have been taking for the last 2−½ months with no problems (confirmed by blood panel test). The office personnel informed me that another blood test needed to be run. I said today that I could have the blood test performed on Monday (3 days from now) but that I was out of pills and just needed a couple of pills to get me through the weekend until I could get the new blood panel test. They declined to allow me two more pills which means I will have a medication coverage gap this weekend. They said they were sorry but had no flexibility. I will not return to Steiner Ranch dermatology again and will not recommend Steiner Ranch Dermatology to any of my friends.

Dr. Lain and his staff (especially Kayla, the laser technician) are wonderful. My family and I have had numerous procedures with them through the last few years. I have seen many dermatologists in Austin/​Lakeway, and he is by far my favorite.

A+ experience all around. The office and staff are professional and friendly. I have been to the office on several occasions for treatment and taken my son their for dermatology issues. Each time the Dr. and staff were knowledgeable and treatments were superior! Would definitely recommend!

I had a laser peel last summer and I could not be HAPPIER! The skill, care and follow-​up have been really professional and caring! I’ve even changed doctors (from my old derm). The old doc was fine, but Dr. Lain is EXCEPTIONAL! His staff is friendly and caring too. I have a number of girlfriends who go here also and they’re all very happy! I HIGHLY recommend this clinic for medical AND aesthetics!

I have seen him for several things ranging from moles being removed to Botox. My experience was okay. Not enough Botox, very expensive per unit, and not great results.
The problem I have with his office staff. They are incredibly rude and don’t know the first thing when it comes to customer service. The office manager herself is so rude. Several women out here in Steiner have stopped going to him just b/​c of his staff. When I am paying hundreds of dollars somewhere I expect to be greeted with a smile and then a thank you which you never get from them. Horrilble!!! Won’t return again to that office.

I decided to address a cosmetic issue that had bothered me for a very long time. A friend suggested that I see Dr. Lain. During my appointment, he listened to what I had to say and made sure he understood what I wanted to change. He recommended a product and told me why he chose that one product over the rest. We decided on a subtle change and I am so glad I went in to see him. I am blown away and could not be happier with the end result. At no time did he try to talk me into anything other than what I went in for. I will definitely be going to this office for all my dermatology needs.

My wife took my son to Dr. Lain a few months ago. Honestly, I really didn’t think much about it until the warts on my hands got bigger, and Bigger, and BIGGER. So I ask my wife to set me an appointment at Steiner Dermatology. I showed up and was quickly ushered to the back. Dr. Lain popped in, very friendly and easy to be around, asked about my issues. I told him about the warts. He went a step further and inspected my upper body because I have lots of moles… what is my deal!!! Anyway, he removed a couple of moles and froze four warts. I was impressed with Dr. Lain. He was friendly, efficient, and effective…

We went here to have my sons planter wart treated on his foot. They froze it which after the fact I found out from a podiatrist, actually 2, that you are never supposed to freeze a planter wart on the foot or the hand. It caused the wart to jump, so instead of having one small wart he had one HUGE wart 2″ in diameter. We then had to go to a podiatrist to have all this cleaned up. I went to their office and spoke with Lisa the office manager. Not one phone call back just to say sorry! The bedside manner of the PA is at most unpolite. Don’t go here! The doctor here is known as «Dr. Dig». He loves to dig out anything.

I recently moved to Austin from Northern California, and wanted a great dermatologist who truly understands and skillfully uses the latest medical information and technologies, in particular, Botox and Juvederm. I’ve visited Dr. Lain two times, once for Botox and the second for Juvederm. On both visits, he provided excellent medical advice, and skilful and artistic applications of both products.
During my first visit, I mentioned my life-​long battle with migraines. He suggested using Botox to treat my headaches, so I agreed to give it a try. Shortly thereafter, I experienced a migraine that should have landed me in the emergency room, but did not as I was able to successfully treat it at home with prescribed migraine medications from my primary care physician. I honestly believe that the Botox application that Dr. Lain delivered to me made all the difference in my particular case.
Dr. Lain’s office staff and assistants are very kind, welcoming and efficient. They always greet you with a smile, and treat you as if you are their most important patient.

First of all, when I called to make my initial appointment, the girl who answered couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. She was very nice and easy to talk to. She got me an appointment asap on the day I needed and the time I preferred. Also, they are in network with my insurance so that was nice too. The drive, tho a bit far from where I live, was very easy to find and not bad at all. I arrived on time to a very clean office. The receptionist, was professional, she greeted me right away. Not personable, but professional. I probably sat a total of 5 minutes in the waiting area and was brought back to a nice little room. Within seconds, a gal by the name of Mia came in. She introduced herself with a nice smile and immediately asked me what I was in for. She listened to everything I had to say and was very friendly and again, professional. within another few minutes, Dr. Lain came in, introduced himself and got down to business. My visit with him, I have to say was very very quick, and to be honest rushed is how I felt. He never asked me how I was doing, how I heard about him or where I lived or what I did for a living. He just got straight to my concerns and gave a quick answer or suggestions, I should say, as to how I can fix or address my problem. Then just like that, he was gone to see his next patient. It was obvious he was busy. Before I knew it, I was walking to my car. My new patient appointment from the time I checked in to the time I walked out the door lasted all of 30 minutes! Good because, I don’t like hanging around the doctors office on my day off, but, still a bit surprised, because, being the first time there, I would have thought it would have taken a little longer. Maybe if he had been a little more «personable» then maybe I would’ve been there at least 5 more minutes.
I guess thats just asking too much these days. Most doctor offices I visit are the same way. Well, the ones I don’t visit anymore. My dentist, OBGYN and my kids pediatrician are awesome and much the opposite.
However, with all being said, if need be, I will continue to use dr. Lain and would recommend him. I do feel I got a good exam, just rushed. I like feeling like at that specific time, that I am the only patient, not like I’m just another number. I could definitely tell he was busy and he didn’t have time to chit chat.

There are plenty of other good dermatologist in this area. I don’t recommend. My husband went in to have a spot looked at on his face. Dr Lain said it looked fine, and would probably go away on its own, but he could quickly and easily freeze it off. He did not disclose the charge and for a 10 second procedure, my husband perceived it to be a minimal charge, if any charge at all. He charged $ 230 for an unnecessary procedure! When we called to have it reduced or taken off, they said «sorry, services were rendered, you owe us». I think its unethical to charge someone this much for a small, unnecessary procedure and not disclosing and approving the cost prior to the procedure. Needless to say. we won’t be going back. They also over charge for Botox and my brows were uneven!

I recently had a very bad case of psoriasis in my scalp that has been bothering me for over 2 weeks, so I finally had to see a dermatologist while visiting in Austin. I found Dr. Lain, was able to get in quick when an opening came up and am glad that I did. Dr. Lain prescribed an over the counter shampoo (T-​Gel) and a prescription foam medicine that I had to rub into my scalp. It has been just 4 days since treatment started and it is so much better.
Great job doc, and thanks for helping me.

My husband and I (both seniors) have received excellent skin care through Dr. Lain. He is both caring and efficient, as well as knowledgeable, and we consider ourselves fortunate to have such a good dermatologist within a few miles of where we live. We highly recommend him.

Since I popped my first pimple at 15, I’ve been a lifelong devote of good Dermatology. Since landing in Austin 4 years ago, I’ve tried a few folks but no one worth keeping on my contact list. Finally looked near my own backyard when I went to Dr Ted of Steiner Dermatology. I had to have a rather egregious looking ingrown hair/​mole thing removed — yuck. This required local anesthesia, cutting and stitching. I was in and out in 30 minutes, Easy and comfortable. Steiner Dermatology also offers less invasive, cosmetic friendly services, like removing those annoying summer moles that keep popping up on my cheeks from the year round sun here. Will be looking to schedule some follow-​ups… The friendly, efficient staff + skilled, caring Dr. = noteworthy experience.

Dr. Lain is very honest. He actually told me that I did not need the IPL that I purchased. Both he and the practitioner basically tried to talk me out of it. I drove all that way, so I got it done anyways. They modified it, so that I would get more of the results I was looking for. I was very impressed at how honest they were.

I’ve had sun spots successfully removed in one treatment before by another doctor who is now retired. I recently went to Dr Lain and after one treatment there was no difference. I’m not sure if he took it personally when I returned but the second treatment actually made the spots FAR worse than they originally were.
I would never recommend this place to a friend.

Dr. Lain is young, nice, personable. I went in for a few different problems and came out with a recommendation to buy $ 300 worth of his products. That just felt wrong.
Also, I asked for moles on my face to be removed, using a suture method to also get rid of the hairs growing in the moles. He decided to scrape the moles instead and told me to let him know if they came back. He told me this at the end of that visit. And guess what, those moles all came back. I was peeved and also have no idea when I’ll have 3 weeks of time that I won’t be see in public to do this.
Beyond the above problems, his staff repeatedly underwhelmed me. A few were friendly and few others seemed cold and dispassionate. I couldn’t get anyone to return my calls, couldn’t get them to send me products that I had ordered and couldn’t get them to give me a receipt for the products. I put up with it for 2 years, but honestly it’s just not worth the aggravation.

I had an appointment with Dr. Lain about my adult onset acne. He was great. Very knowledgable and thorough. I highly recommend. I got my first IPL here and it was great. My skin was immediately improved. If you’ve never gotten one of these (aka photofacial) and you want to brighten your appearance and improve your skin with results in less than a week, I highly recommend. And there’s not a more knowledgable skin doctor in Austin!

Great Doctor! He is smart, young and ahead of the game. If you need a skin check or some Botox, Dr. Lain is who you want to see. He is honest and open with your beauty concerns and really cares about each patient.
I live downtown and it’s worth the 20 minute drive to Steiner Ranch to see him.
