The sushi is pretty decent for the price but the fact that u can hear the servers talking rudely about the customers is kinda awkward and kinda made me not wanna go back. I mean, it’s chill for convenience because it’s closer to downtown, but the service is slow and the workers look miserable all the time.

5−9pm Happy Hour??? Who can complain! Not bad sushi for a good price? Yes please. They have a pretty good variety of rolls. They have all the usual stuff like California roll, philly rolls, etc but the Blue Moonlight Roll is probably my favorite. Parkings extremely limited so if you or a friend gets lucky, just park the other car right behind.

We’ve had dinner here three times and each visit has been consistent with food service and beautifully presented delicious and fresh food. The staff os helpful and patiemt with questions about their menu selections. AsnI often do when visiting a new eatery, I ask for the staff“s favorite and ask if they have any recommendations. Our waiter during this visit was as helpful as the previous ones and was patient with our questions. The only issue we have also consistently encountered is the limited parking spaces available in the lot in front of the restaurant. Considering the location within a block from UT’s campus and student residential buildings, many of their patrons must be traveling on foot or bicycle. But for those who have cars, be prepared to wait a while for parking space to come available or to make a couple rounds around a few blocks to find parking options.

Last few times not as great. Still a good value for the price.

Not the best but not terrible, either. Came here during their happy hour and the service was especially slow. When we first arrived we were only one of three tables seated, so really it shouldn’t have taken so long. Business picked up as happy hour continued and that just seemed to make the service slower. Got the california roll, crunchy roll, spider roll, & shrimp tempura roll. Enjoyed the shrimp tempura roll the best followed by the crunchy roll. Spider roll had no flavor(in my opinion). California was good, nothing special. The prices were great, the location was quaint, but the wait for the rolls just was just disproportionate to how their taste.

This is a very good place to eat if you’re looking for inexpensive sushi. I would argue you are getting more bang for your buck here than most other sushi places. The service is always a little sporadic but the staff is really friendly! I got the blue moonlight roll and I was very pleased!

Danky dank sushi. Not the best sushi I’ve had, but still very good. Decent happy hour as well.

The sushi here is very reasonably priced and delicious at the same time. If you come during happy hour, it’s really cheap! I got the Cherry blossom roll which was covered in all sorts of tobiko(which I love). This is a very small no frills restaurant right next to momoko, and there are only a couple of parking spaces. The servers here are nice, and I love coming here during happy hour to fill up on rolls.

Today was supposed to be a special treat for my kid who wanted to celebrate her last day of school. We had been here once before and had a good experience. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken promptly. I asked for sugar for my iced tea 3 times throughout the meal and never got it. A minor annoyance but not enough to ruin the meal. At least the sushi came out quickly– it was a little warm but didn’t taste bad at all. But then I hear my kid say«oh my god– look at that!» I turn around and look up to see a GIANTROACH(picture a big fat flying one) crawling across the upper part of the wall. It walked across the ceiling right over our table out to the middle of the dining room! At this point the waitress came back by to check on us & she sees we are visibly upset about something. I point to the roach on the ceiling and she says she will take care of it. A minute later we hear a panicked scream followed by a loud stomp. I’m pretty sure the roach fell on a woman– I saw her shaking out her hair and shirt. The bento box was brought out about this time– it looked and smelled good but our appetites were ruined. The check came without any kind of discount– maybe I should have asked but at least the roach didn’t fall on me. I paid and left. Will not be returning.

Boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place for a while. Parking isn’t great, but luckily we got there when it wasn’t busy. We were greeted with a friendly smile and promptly seated. Even though there was literally only us and one other couple in there when we arrived, our service still slow. When we got our drinks, we asked our waitress for some sugar packets and thought she would go get them and be right back… After about 4 – 5 minutes, and seeing her walk around(but never come to our table to give us the sugar), we determined she had somehow forgotten, and we asked her again. This time we got it. The miso soup was pretty good, nice and hot. When we got our sushi, I didn’t have a little soy sauce bowl so the waiter said he would bring me one. I could literally see the shelf where the soy sauce bowls are kept and I could have easily walked over to it and gotten it within seconds. Instead, I watched the waiter do something before retreating to a corner behind the counter where I think he might have been checking his phone… I stared at him for a while and eventually we locked eyes. I guess he had forgotten too but finally remembered after seeing me stare at him. Let me remind y’all again, there was like no one else in the restaurant at that point. Anyways, other than that, I have no other complaints. The sushi is a lot bigger than some of the other places I’ve been, and cheaper, for the size. One of the vegetarian rolls I had, with sweet potato and fried onion — SOGOOD(who would have thunk?). I would go back just to get a huge helping of that again. All in all, I’m sure we’ll be back. :)

I am a sushi lover. This sushi satisfies cravings at decent prices– especially during happy hour– but their take out sushi tasted subpar. The rice tasted old, and the fish quality wasn’t amazing. However, sushi craving was still somewhat put at ease for the time being. I got the rainbow roll and spicy tuna– my usual go-to’s at sushi restaurants. I recommend going here during happy hour IFYOU’RE A STUDENTANDTRYINGTOSAVEMONEY. Otherwise, take your car and head over to a sushi joint downtown for some classier, better quality fish.

VERY minimal parking and its easy to get hit in this parking lot as it backs out to 24th street which is a very busy street in West Campus. Overall, the food is good for what pay. Sometimes the sushi comes out a bit warm but overall the quality of it is good since its only about $ 9-$ 12 for a roll. The Service is AWFUL when its busy, but when its not busy id give it a 2 out of 5 stars. Several times i’ve been here that I’ve asked for substitutions or asked them to take something off the roll when i was ordering and the roll came out and my order was not correct.

This little gem is going to be one of my favorite spots for their BENTOBOX. For those of you who love the diverse box of Japanese cuisine this is the place for you. The bento box was extremely filling and delicious! One thing that really made it stand out was something I generally avoid — the vegetable tempura sauce. It was not overly sweet but went very well with the tempura and made it enjoyable to eat. I got the chicken teriyaki and it was very good, and a large portion. Cons: — staff was a bit slow, we had to go up to the front to pay because our waitress never came back — small space, was very busy and seating will be hard to find at times(we barely beat the crowd) — a bit pricy, but it was a lot of food — the salad in the bento box was nothing special… May sub it out with something in the future Quick note: I know other reviews mentioned no miso soup — they did have miso soup and it was great, lots of green onions though

Very Meh sushi; the rolls are bland and the quality of the fish isn’t great. I had tuna, salmon and eel rolls(you do get 8 pieces per order and the prices aren’t bad). The service is also pretty slow when they’re more busy. I wish I had more to say but this is your standard medium-to-low quality sushi.

Came to Austin for a photo shoot and my photographer recommended this place for payment! I was expecting a lot out of this place from their moonlight roll to their tonkatsu. We ended up eating around 6 rolls and 1 appetizer and their sushi is really just mediocre. We came here during lunch on a Sunday and I was really disappointed to hear there is no udon or miso soup. What kind of Japanese sushi restaurant don’t have miso soup. It doesn’t take much to make. There is nothing special about their sushi rolls. The rice is just meh and the inside is just fish and avocado. Nothing special. Their gyoza is cooked with brown sugar instead with oil. Which is a really nice touch! But other than that I wouldn’t come back here again.

Great place to go for college students. Delicious meal at a reasonable price — I got the happy hour(sashimi) and also a chicken Katsu bento box. I was very satisfied with how quickly they processed my order and more importantly, how delicious it was. Not to mention, they also served us double miso soup by mistake. A different waiter came by our table and gave us miso soup as we were eating our entrees though we already had soup as an appetizer. As we told him we already drank our share, he laughed and told us that the soup was on him. What a cool guy!

Good decent sushi thats walk-able from my apartment. The sushi is really good for how cheap it is, ESPECIALLY during happy hour! The staff is okay, mostly comprised of college students so i dont expect much. The décor is very stereotypical and kind of tasteless actually… The fish is super fresh, and the cooked dishes arnt bad! i usually stick to fish, rolls, and udon noodles.

The sushi was in good quality but not extraordinary and the tempura udon was very disappointing, but one roll really made this place stood out to me. Yep you guessed it: the blue moonlight roll! What is this blue moonlight roll that all including me are raving about? It’s a maki-zushi(The same kind as a California roll) that has tempura shrimp and spicy tuna inside and salmon and mayo on the outside. It’s delicious as it sounds! It’s like all the best and the favorite of Japanese cuisine materials rolled into one maki-zushi, entreating the taste buds in a perfect union. I’m personally not a huge fan of maki-zushi, but this is an exception. With reasonable price, casual clean setting, great service and convenient location(with a small parking lot too), Sushi Niichi deserves a 4 star rating particularly because of its phenomenal blue moonlight roll.

A group of three of us stopped in after a bit of a trek and a BBQ fail at Freedman’s. Sushi Niichi was a pretty good plan B. I have heard rave reviews about the happy hour for several years but considering Sushi Niichi’s location and shortage of parking near campus this was my first visit. We walked into a packed dining room at 9pm. Luckily we were able to snag one of the last two open tables in the restaurant. The atmosphere is divey/hole in the wall in a good way. There were three chefs behind the sushi bar which I saw as a good sign. There was however one waitress and host which it took awhile for us to place our order but once we did food came out quickly. Their wine list is seriously lacking but this is to be expected near campus. They do however have some decent sakes and beers. I ordered the garden roll, 2 pieces of hamachi and a glass of cabernet. The hamachi was super tender and the garden roll was decent but could use an ingredient to give it a bit more flavor(ume, grill some of the veggies maybe). Everything I ordered was $ 4.99 including the wine. I would definitely stop back if I’m in the area and need a bite to eat. I especially wouldn’t mind giving their happy hour a try.
