History

Established in 1975.

Our location was the old «Moose Head Lodge» that served steak dinners and bootleg whiskey in the early 30’s. It was then purchased by a big time gambler who built the exisiting building and named it «Cedar Crest Lodge.» It became a very popular gambling house. In 1975 partners Bruce Walcutt, Rick Goss, Ed Norton, along with Skeeter Miller brought new life to the old lodge by re-opening as the now Legendary «County Line Barbeque»! One of the biggest arguments was whether they could afford a $ 9.95 Veg-O-Matic in those early days! Luckily we were reviewed by Texas Monthly and the rest as they say,…is history! There are two Austin locations, two in San Antonio, along with our El Paso State Line, and two Houston stores, and last but not least, one in Albuquerque NM. Each is located in a special area that always offers a kind of «get-away» feeling when you dine with us! It’s BBQ so good you just got to «Git it all over ya!»

Meet the Manager

Dee Dee H.

Manager

General Manager and BBQ Queen Dee Dee Halsey has been with County Line Inc, since 1980. The «voice» of the radio commercials heard throughout Texas, and the lady who entertains you while «on hold» when phoning the stores, worked her way up to GM by doing each job the company had! «BBQ Queen» or «Queen Mom» are definitely earned nicknames and she can answer any question you can throw at her. Being involved with her staff and managers, along with different charities in Austin are her favorite parts of the job. «I LOVE people, and meeting those from all over the US and even abroad just adds to the fun!» Being a Texas girl born and bred she knows what true hospitality means and strives to make all guests feel welcome and «at home». Do you have a group that needs a room? She books the Vista room for 25 to 100 all day long! Give her a call and let her show you around Austins Original County Line store! She is the one to help you come in and «Git it all over ya!»
