The Escape Game

We’ve done about 3 of these in different locations so far and The Escape Game is by far our favorite. We are talking multiple rooms, intricate layouts, and the puzzles are high tech; Without spoiling anything– some really cool things happen when you start finding solutions. We have been to some that simply give you multiple types of padlocks to open… boring!
My boyfriend and I did The Heist and ended up with a smart group of Austin hipsters that got us out in no time. It was a little whirlwind, especially when working with people you don’t know. If you don’t like the idea of that– just get your own group together and rent the whole room! The second time we did the hardest one (Gold Rush) with two friends and ended up with another awesome group of 4. It worked out great– the more minds the better. I can’t explain in words how much fun these rooms are. The hour goes by so fast and everyone always wants to do it again right away.

We were just visiting Austin for the day and reading things online to do when we stumbled across The Escape Game. SOO EPIC! first time here and going back with family again tomorrow. It was challenging, exciting, and worth every dollar!

I brought my family here after doing a different escape room with some friends. We did Prison Break and it was AWESOME. Far better than any escape room I’ve seen or heard of before. We were with another four-​person family, and the teamwork we developed along with our awesome game leader (Shane, I believe was his name) made the experience incredibly fun and engaging – we escaped with only 58 seconds to spare!
The décor and ambiance of this place are out of this world. Seriously, it’s a few dollars more than some of the other escape rooms in the area but it is 1000x’s better!
We enjoyed prison break so much, that we decided to come back to go through Gold Rush a few hours later (which, if you book after your first game you get a free T-​Shirt)! To be honest, we didn’t have as good a time on Gold Rush – there were some elements of that game that just weren’t as well thought-​out (e.g., do not touch stickers on things that needed to be touched, clues in the wrong place) that just made it harder and more frustrating. We did escape though, with only 8 seconds left.

I came here today while on vacation in Austin with my family. We didn’t know what to really expect and chose this place based on reviews. We absolutely loved it and we escaped with 1 min and 29 seconds to go. We did the heist with a group of 5. We were totally challenged, there were so many puzzles to figure out. It is such a great way to spend an hour, we spoke about it all day and want to do another one soon. It was so much fun!

I have mixed feeling about my experience here. I think given better circumstances, I would have had a better time, but unfortunately my experience was not good.
We signed up to do the game Gold Rush in the early afternoon and at the time we were told that we were the only two, but the person told us we might have a bigger group by the time we come back for our game. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and it was just 2 of us.
Now we were told simply one thing, Gold Rush was the second hardest of the 4 games offered. That’s pretty much the only description we got. It would have been nice to know that you will likely get injured here if you wear shorts as there is kneeling on sharp sandy floors, you might bump and scratch your head on a useless shelf placed in an awkward place, and you might have wooden boards fall on you. Also, you’ll need physical strength to pump, great aim and eyesight since the lighting is terrible and one part of the game you need to be a sharpshooter, you also should NOT be colorblind (my game partner was and he couldn’t solve a few puzzles as a result) and lastly have good physical dexterity to contort into all the weird positions to retrieve clues and switch rooms (think crawling on your knees and playground chute/​slide). You should also be comfortable in tight spaces, or else you’ll be very unhappy. We were not told any of that, and that’s what made me mad.
The puzzles mostly consisted of figuring out lock combinations which got to be repetitive and dull. With just 2 of us playing, it took a little time to figure everything out. Luckily our helper Chris was able to fill in some of the missing pieces to move us along. In the end I think we got about 80% done before time ran out.
When we finished I saw a group of 5 walk out of another room… Why did they not offer to pair that group with us, so we could enjoy the game a little more?
Also I think a more explicit rating system for games would be nice. Pointing out attributes one might need to successfully solve the game such as strength, dexterity, good eyesight, flexibility, and pain tolerance (in the case of my cut up knees from the sharp sandy/​gravelly floor.
In the end I walked out angry. Not mad about failing to solve the games and escape, but because I was sold a product that just wasn’t a good fit for me. I came in knowing nothing, a few tips before deciding which game to play would have been helpful.

I would recommend the Escape Game over Panic Room any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It’s better organized, and it has ambience. They actually go out of their way to make the rooms look like the real deal; unlike the Panic Room, which, no matter which theme you pick, somehow makes you feel like you’re at your Great Aunty Em’s yard sale. Also, the game coordinator (in our case, Jake) was a lot more helpful, and they show the hints on the TV screen instead of giving them through a walkie-​talkie, so you’re not having to repeat the game coordinator’s tips a million times to different team members. There’s less room for error. My team and I did Gold Rush. It was just the four of us. My only criticism – not a criticism, really, but a suggestion, is that they should allow extra time for people in smaller groups, like ten minutes or so. If you’re going into Gold Rush with a team of 4 or less, your team better consist of Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Will Shortz, and the less douchey guy from Mythbusters. Also, caution: I can only speak for Gold Rush, but if you’re easily claustrophobic, this might not be your thing. Oh, and ladies: may I suggest wearing pants or shorts? Otherwise you may find yourself Sharon Stoning your team members in a certain section of the game.

Did Prison Break with a group of 7 first time escape game players. It was such a good way to challenge your brain to think differently and have a great time with friends! If you’re thinking about doing it, definitely do it!!! We will for sure be back

We just did this for my wife’s birthday this weekend, and everyone had a great time. This was our first time doing one of these and we were not disappointed.
The setup at The Escape Game was clean and streamlined. Check-​in was a snap and once everyone had arrived we were able to start our adventure a few minutes early. We did the Prison Break room, and managed to escape with 5 minutes to spare. The props in the rooms were very nice and everything meshed together very well. There are cool little secret passages to open, and the variety of the puzzles are nice.
We figured out pretty early on that communication is key. You gotta talk about everything and work together to find solutions. Everyone in our party felt like they contributed in some way to the escape, which I thought was a great thing. We didn’t need to have a «leader» of the group. Everyone kept busy searching for clues and working together. I am not sure if that was a product of our group dynamic, or if it was a product of the game design. Either way, it worked well for us.
I would definitely recommend The Escape Game if you are into this kind of thing. It was a great experience and it’s something I would definitely do again in the future.

This place is fantastic! I’ve visited twice – the first time for Prison Break and the second time for Gold Rush. Both experiences were phenomenal.
The puzzles are a blast. They do a fantastic job planning and crafting each game. The staff are also very friendly, and will help with hints throughout the game as you need them.
We had such a great time at The Escape Game. Can’t wait to go back again!

This is a hard one. I posted a review of the APR and included my rankings of the other escape rooms in town here. to repeat, I had a blast here. But all these escape rooms all get 5 stars and that’s not helpful to picking one. So I’m rating them relative to others. Escape Game doesn’t fit the mold.
On one hand, the set design was incredible and it was a really different experience than the others in town. But something about the staff and the corporateness of it all rubbed me the wrong way. The puzzles were interesting, but nothing special. There are several other rooms in Austin that just seem to understand the whole «experience» better. It’s not about the wizardry and technology, but about the people. These were the ratings I listed in the APR review. I plan to post a more detailed review of each as well. I didn’t include Escape Game in the listing below because I just don’t know what I think. Part of me IS wowed by it and wants to put it in the top tier. But something is missing and I’m not sure what that is.
Top tier (5 star): Perplexium, Lockout Austin, 15 Locks
Middle (3 – 4 star): 11^th Hour, Maze Rooms, Puzzle Room
Bottom (1 – 2 star): Panic Room, Mystery Rooms

My team did the Classified room and it was a blast! Most of us had never done one before. We did not escape, but I still had a great time. We only had 5 people, but I believe 7 is the max (and the more brains the better). Would love to do this for a corporate team building exercise… although, it does hold the potential to cause fights and arguments between teammates as the clock is ticking!

SO. MUCH. FUN. we got out of prison break with 38 seconds to go out first time here! They give you enough clues to make this hard but doable! We had so much fun and we highly intend to go back and try other rooms! The attention to detail and great ability to read the group to keep them going is fantastic.

Super fun! We did the Heist and all had a great time. Lots of surprises and some hard clues. Barely made it out with 1 minute 58 seconds to spare.

This was our first visit to The Escape Room and what a great time we had. My husband and I were with five other people and we all worked very well together as a team. We did Gold Rush and it was loads of fun. We escaped with two minutes to spare. The girl at the front desk was super sweet and so helpful. The only negative remark I have is that there isn’t an escape room by us.

We ESCAPED! Prison Break! The only ones who made it out all day according to our awesome host! (Young black guy… Sorry forgot his name) He made our night! Super cool, super thorough and even though it was late at night and he had worked all day he still treated us like we were his first customers of the day!
I made reservations online for 7 people. Got an email confirmation. Parked in nearby parking garage for $ 10. The place was easy to find, had a big sign out front and was all lit up. Clean bathrooms and fun staff. Nice waiting bench and iPads to sign in and fill out the waivers incase you die… ;)
We had 5 college kids with us, me & my military Ranger bad ass husband… We got this right?! The hardest room to get out of so they say! I read the reviews, I’m paying for a private university education to one of these prisoners… Let’s see if it’s paying off!
Since there were 7 of us we had the game to ourselves. Apparently if it’s 2 or 3 you team up with others. Go with a group. It’s more fun. The girls and boys were split at first (without going into too much details)
We all ended up together and busted out of there with only a few seconds to spare! Use your clues! Think! Don’t have a Mexican Martini from Chuys first… I definitely was the weakest link!
Another thing… I remember searching Unilocal for this… You shouldn’t bring a big purse. You leave it outside the jail cell and if you are kind of nervous like me you may not be able to fully focus on the game because you are not in contact with your belongings the whole time. Leave it in the car or at home. Not saying I felt like I couldn’t trust them or anything. I’m just a overly protective person when it comes to my purse… We all left our jackets purses and phones in a tub outside the cell.
We had so much fun and all worked together to bust out of there!
All the college kids had a blast and we couldn’t stop and still can’t stop reminiscing about our hour of complete suspenseful fun!
I received a thank you card and a framed pic of us with our ESCAPED stickers from the guests we took there. They wrote in the card that it was one of the funnest things they had ever done! I completely agree and so does my husband!
One more tip… When they tell you to check your pockets before you leave, do it!
My son found a little something in his pocket the next day that he forgot he stuck in there just incase we needed it later. I promise we will return it Escape
Go! Just Go! It’s a blast!
We did Prison Break. We asked them which one we should do next time and they told us that we already conquered the hardest one so anything else would be easy for us!
We want to come again!

I loved my adventure here. I did the Classified and it was a great way to pull together and help each other. It was a great way to spend the hour and challenge yourself

So I just got back from escaping ‘The Heist’ & would recommend it. My husband reallllly enjoyed himself.
It was a bit pricy for me but overall was much more fun and interactive than I expected. There are enough scattered clues that it lets everyone in a group participate and have a good ‘ah ha!’ moment.
I also wish they had a world map instead of just a USA map, but eh. The staff are very friendly and nice and the bathroom toilets are all black! Don’t really know why that threw me a bit but I was like woah. Anyway try it out!

Awesome team building event! Forget doing a team happy hour. Forget doing a silly ropes course. Panic Room makes you think outside the box, communicate, work together, and all while in a fast-​paced, fun scenario. LOVE IT! I also love that they have different games so you can accommodate different size groups. I didn’t know what to expect going in, but once you get the hang of things it gets really exciting. I would HIGHLY recommend The Escape Game to anyone who wants to get a group of friends together and try something new. The best hour of fun you will have for a long time.

Was visiting my boyfriend who lives in Austin when we decided to give this a go — and we both had a great time. We were paired with two other groups so we had seven people total, and we did the gold rush game (and I’m proud to say we escaped, although barely)! We had so much fun that we actually bought a gift card to go back again later. Highly recommend!

An amazing experience! The staff were fantastic and the game itself was an absolute blast! I can’t wait to try the other three games. A great team-​building exercise! Do it now!

I had no idea what to expect and initially thought it would be lame. Boy was I wrong. This place is epic! There are so many clues and so many locks and we were busy and entertained the full hour. We escaped with only 1.5 minutes left! We did Prison Break which was the hardest level but totally doable. I would go back again and do a different room. Also they have a groupon right now!

This is a MUST do in Austin! So much fun team building with co-​workers. We did Prison Break. Definitely difficult but we made it out with 8 minutes to spare. Can’t wait to do the other rooms!

This was our first experience with anything like this! It was so much fun! We are for sure coming back and trying the other rooms! We did the Classified room and it turned out to be pretty cool.

Thoroughly enjoyable group activity that keeps everyone on their toes. Leaders emerge, math skills are tested & surprises abound.

This was so much fun! We went for a friends birthday party and I think we could have actually been competitive if we weren’t so drunk.
Let me tell you… if this was a real situation. We wouldn’t have made it out alive.
It really made us fight, think, scramble, brainstorm and argue. All the things you could ask for in a challenging situation. I’m really excited to go back and check out the other rooms.
¹⁰⁄₁₀ would go back and do it sober. We ended up escaping with 5 minutes to spare. WHEW!

This is such an awesome experience. I have been twice, once to do Prison Break with a group of adults and once to do Gold Rush with a group that included kids. Both times everyone really enjoyed it and were able to contribute. The kids saw a bunch of things the adults completely missed. I have been to several escape type places in Austin and this is by far the best! The rooms are very realistic looking and have some interesting twists. I highly recommend Escape Game as a unique outing! The staff is great too.

This is a great place to unwind with friends and family after a long day of work or to start out your weekend. I had never played a game like this and it really gets you thinking out of the box. Get ready for surprises you wouldn’t think of. One game reminded me of an Indiana Movie but I was actually the character. The other game I was the character in The thief but both were outside the box thinking and more. What is even better is The Escape Games is very affordable. I would recommend it for businesses as a team building experience. I’ll be back and now have a great place to take my out of town guests even if they have «board teens.» It’s cheaper than shopping.

The Escape Game was so much fun and the best puzzle/​escape room experience I’ve tried yet! I’ve gone to a few other places with the same concept but none have been as successful at execution like The Escape Game. Everything from the start to finish was new, challenging, and fun. Highly recommend!

I went with a group of friends, and we did the gold rush challenge and had so much fun! It was a really unique experience… I was impressed… I want to go back and do the other missions now. Highly recommend

Y’all. This place was so well thought out. Some of my other friends have done games like this and everyone said that this was the most authentic and well organized one they’ve done. It was my first time and at first I was nervous. Once once we got inside the room, ‘prison break’, the timer starts for an hour and you have to escape! I did it with a group of six and we made it out with three seconds to spare! I can’t wait to try the other ones like the art heist, such a fun way to try something different! It’s definitely a brain puzzle and it was challenging! Loved it!

Paired with 2 other groups, got through the first part with ease and felt a little cocky. The second part was very challenging though. A lot of fun, I’ll definitely look for more of these in the future. We almost booked for one of the other rooms another day but didn’t have time. Oh, and we DID escape!

Did this last night with friends and it was so much fun! The staff were super helpful and answered all our questions. Thanks to Ebony and Tammy. They were awesome! Would definitely do again!

The escape game is so much fun and an exciting activity to try when you want to change things up from a normal night out. We went for my friend’s birthday to play Gold Rush and loved every minute of it. If you like adventure you should give this place a try!

Sooooo much fun! This place was such a great experience. We escaped with 31 seconds left on the clock.
It was a combination of fun, excitement, and trust with your team. I would recommend this for any type of setting. We had a team builder, and it was just what we needed to see how we can handle the pressure as well as the trust we have in each other.
I can not wait to come back and try the other mazes.

I did this with a friend who I knew was like me in enjoying puzzles and games, and we had a blast. I had never done a puzzle room before. I expected it to be fun, but it surpassed all my expectations. They really put some love into it. It’s challenging, but the staff nudges you along with hints so you don’t get stuck. We didn’t quite escape (although we came incredibly close), but we only had two people. We are definitely going back to try all the rooms. Highly recommended if you like fun.

People! Whether you are just visiting Austin or you are lucky enough to live here, this is a MUST DO! 60 minutes of fun with a group of friends or as a family! You are put in a themed room with a mission and you have 60 minutes to escape. Clues are all hidden in the room but it requires thinking and team work to figure it out! Don’t discount kids either — as they are able to find small details and things overlooked. Some rooms have tunnels and such leading to other locations. This was so AWESOME that I definitely recommend to everyone looking for something different to do! Great location downtown too — near hotels and restaurants. Perfect night out in the city.

This was an awesome evening with our friends! A memory we won’t forget. Jason and his team were very helpful and friendly the moment we entered their doors. If you are looking for something to do, it has a great location with easy parking in connected convention center garage. Be ready to look, analyze, and solve the puzzles to escape the room. Have fun!

What a great activity for friends and family! Everyone was able to solve some puzzles and we worked as a team to escape! The rooms are over the top in décor and you feel like you’re in another place. The staff was the BEST! We will do it again! This review is for Austin, TX location.

Wow!!! Never experienced anything quite like this!!! Loved every minute of the challenge with my family & friends. The environment that was created was amazing down to every detail, including sound effects & smells. Everyone in our group was challenged & had an opportunity to make a contribution. Can’t wait to return to Austin to take on another Escape Game challenge.

I was lucky enough to try out one of the rooms here yesterday with a group of coworkers as beta-​testers. I have only tried one other puzzle room in Austin before this, but this one completely blew me away! The rooms were very well done, with high-​quality props and puzzles. Our group went through the Prison Break room where you start out actually locked into a cell. There was tons of attention to detail all throughout our game, and I was really impressed with the variety of puzzles.
Currently this location has four puzzle rooms, with two more going in at a later date. I’m already planning to go back once they have their grand opening in a few weeks.
