This place grabbed my eye after going to HEB last Sunday so I thought I’d give it a try. Some might remember when tropical snow was on the wood hollow/far West corner and I would say their ice as well as sno beach and sweet Carolines is much more smooth. It’s definitely still better than the old school carnival machines though. The positives: there are more flavor options than I have seen anywhere else, they pout generous amounts of syrup, the flavors themself seem more pronounced. I had strawberry, blue coconut and guava and by the end it still tasted like those flavors instead of a pile of unidentifiable flavors. They also have corn in a cup and some other food options but I didn’t try any while I was there. I would probably go back and maybe even try one of their food items but only because it’s across the street from my church and right next to the HEB I frequent.

While the flavor options are interesting, the ice is a little too packed for my taste. I like a fluffier shaved ice, not one I have to chip away at with my spoon. And I don’t think this place is the best value in town, either. The syrup portion was good, and the cream portion was generous, but a medium costs $ 2.25 and is smaller than the small at Sno Beach and Casey’s. Because I live right by here, and I want to try some of the unusual flavors(chamoy, chile lime, diablito) I will probably go back, but I would not travel out of my way for this particular shaved ice experience.

Today, I met our Best Unilocal Girl Kelly S. here. She came bearing gifts! Finally, I got my lunch box! Just so you know, I whined for the lunch box and she lives very close to me. Because I’m on a «no sugar diet» right now, I had a Pina Colada snow cone with splenda. I know… with poison. I think I’ll be fine but the funny thing is, I usually crash around 5:00 p.m. and I had tons of energy afterwards. Is it Kelly S.‘s personality? Because that girl is bubbly. In a very good way. Like champagne. I must have vampired some of that bubbliness from her brain. The Cherry snow cone I had last week was so much better but the company today was excellent! Adding a star just for Miz K.

The ice was kind of painfully crunchy, and the lady behind the counter was sweet and helpful to the point of me wanting to tell her, yes, it’s okay that I’m trying a «weird» flavor. They have a hard time allocating syrup toward the top of the snowcone. The bottom was great, but since I had my flavors split in half, I was expecting my bottom to have about half of each. Oh well.

I was desperately searching for a snow cone stand and threw my hands up from excitement when I saw this. They had a ton of weirder flavors for people that like spicy snow cones but that’s not my thing. The ice was on the crunchier side and they use the right amount of syrup. Their medium was $ 3 which a little more expensive that I’m used to paying but not outrageous. My roommate had watermelon with cream. Their cream is actually just condensed milk and they use a ton of it. I had blue coconut and it was good. The sugar crash afterwards hit me hard and fast though.
