The Westin Austin at The Domain

Four stars based on the government/​military rate I paid.
Good location in North Austin, walking distance to the Domain shopping center and restaurants. A block away from Whole Foods. The Arboretum shopping center is also a short drive away. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you were planning to go to Downtown Austin often.
Parking was free. Staff was friendly. Late check out on Sundays. My room was clean and I had the better view from the 7^th floor, which faced the Domain shopping area, but don’t expect anything scenic.
A few minor complaints. The water pressure was low. I was also charged for using the phone, but I called the Westin Reservations line. I shouldn’t have been charged for that.

The hotel services were fine, the location was great but they get a two star rating because of the air-​conditioning. They have those semi fake thermostats that wouldn’t let us turn the temperature down to our comfort level. The thermostats also turn the a/​c off around midnight snd will not allow the a/​c to be turned on again until morning! So we didn’t sleep all night because it was hot. I guess they think we are not smart enough to notice that the fake thermostat turns itself off. We pay a lot of money for these rooms and that should include a/​c all night.

Lobby is gorgeous, staff is nice. My (very expensive) room is loud, the walls have massive stains, and the wifi is the worst I’ve ever had in a hotel. 4.1 MB download and 1.90 upload. Connecting through my cell phone is faster. I do not recommend this hotel for business travelers.

First of all this is a very nice hotel overall. It feels new and clean, the staff is super friendly and helpful, the gym is good and the food is great. However there are a couple of reasons I will probably not come back.
1). Location. It can’t be helped of course but if your business is in downtown Austin, you are in for a long traffic-​congested commute each morning. Figure 45 minutes to an hour.
2) My room on the 5^th floor was clean, but it had a horrible smell. It took me the entire stay to figure out what it was. I looked out my window and there are huge exhaust vents about 20 yards away. I think the restaurant exhaust was coming into my room. It was not pleasant and its a serious design flaw.
3) I hate hotels that tell you «free internet», but you need to log in every day with your name & room number and agree to a charge which is then deducted from the bill. Its annoying and this hotel does that.

This is a great hotel for conferences — here’s why:
1) Gym, decent parking, friendly and helpful lobby attendants, clean public areas
2) Decent bar food and drinks
3) Temperature — it is VERY important at conferences to keep guests comfortable and to avoid freezing people to their core. This hotel was the perfect temperature.
4) Breakfast catering — the breakfast food was too cold and cleared too quickly. Staff cleaned up at 8:30 sharp, which was awkward, as people were still grabbing their food.
5) Hotel rooms are quiet and spacious (I was in the executive floor). The extra water was a nice touch.
The only downside, for a conference, is that the Domain is far out of downtown, so one cannot roam Austin by foot.

Had a really fine stay here during a recent conference. Top flight friendly service top to bottom, and as an SPG member I felt treated like royalty. Was given an incredible room and all needs were anticipated/​taken care of quickly with a smile. Not a fan of the pre-​fab gated cmmty feel of The Domaine on the whole, but this was a solid choice. That said, things like hallway carpets are oddly worn and stained and prices at the breakfast restaurant seemed unnecessarily high, making it hard to get out for less than $ 20 for something as simple as a yoghurt and coffee. Overall though a fine stay.

Beautiful property. When you become rewards member you can get breakfast and wifi. Talk to staff to see if they can accommodate. W/​in walking distance to all shops and restaurants in the Domain. Highly recommended. Two thumbs up

We had an exceptionally great stay at this hotel! The hotel was clean. The bedding and robes were luxurious. The shower was… well, always hot and almost impossible to tear yourself away from. The amenities were great. The area was excellent for finding things to see or do at any time day or night. The exercise room was about perfect!
Do yourself a few favors if you stay here: 1) Order Room Service. The chicken with cream sauce and their french fries were incredible! 2) Mention a Special Occasion. I mentioned we were there for my husband’s birthday and they had room service bring us 2 free slices of their decadent chocolate cake and berries along with a hand made birthday card. 3) Ask for a late check out. We were offered a 4PM check out which made our stay feel like a 2 day stay instead of one night. It was wonderful sleeping in, ordering room service for lunch, and lounging around until late afternoon!
We would definitely stay here again in the future. It was one of our favorite hotel stays ever.

I am at the end of a 3 day 2 night stay for a conference. I travel quite a bit. This hotel is top notch from the front door to the details. The hotel smells fresh and clean, the building has a little warmer than I prefer (during a Texas heatwave). The rooms are very nice looking, clean and well appointed. The conference catered meals were delicious which was a big surprise. Westin is my new favorite!

Just recently stayed here for my wedding. We blocked off about 25 rooms a month ahead of time. Upon arrival on Friday July 10 we were notified that on Saturday July 11 which was the night of the wedding the water would be shut off at 12 a.m. Being that my reception was at the oasis on lake Travis this left my guests and I no time to get back to the hotel and take a shower or even brush our teeth. I know that they stated that this was the city of Austin working on the water so I get that they couldn’t do anything about it but they could of at least notified me beforehand of this problem even if it WAS a couple hours before we checked in on friday. If we then still decided to stay OK that was up to us, but I feel like they didn’t want to let us know of the problem until we were there and basically had no choice. We will never stay here again. No compensation for any of this mind you.

Beautiful hotel in a convenient location in the Domain! The lobby is inviting, the staff is welcoming and the rooms are very comfortable — I always love the heavenly bed and shower and this location is no exception. I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are in North Austin.

I’ve enjoyed staying with you since your opening several years ago. And my visit last weekend was the very best ever: friendliness, hospitality, cleanliness, overall service, efficiency and follow through exceeded expectations.
A special commendation goes to front desk manager Prashay, and moonlighting (former Domain employee), Noelle. Noelle was warm, courteous and professional every day.

The Westin class of Starwood hotels just doesn’t seem to be what it used to be. Service at Westins just seems to be going downhill. That being said, this was neither the best nor the worst Westin I’ve stayed in.
On arrival and check-​in, the employee checking us in us did not acknowledge our SPG Platinum status, nor did he ask us which complimentary Platinum reward we would like. Thanks to Brandon and Audrey at the front desk, we at least found out 2 days into our stay that we should have been offered complimentary breakfast every day, and they gave us the vouchers and credited us one of the breakfasts we needn’t have purchased. Still, we found out that this should have been offered when we checked in.
As for housekeeping, it was some of the poorest quality housekeeping I’ve had. We were left without toilet paper, even though the roll was nearly empty while the room was being cleaned. We had to call and have some sent up. Any hotel I’ve stayed at has an extra roll in the bathroom, but not here. Also, we were given 4 bottles of conditioner during our 4 days, but 0 bottles of shampoo, leading to another call.
However, not all service was bad. I’d like to say that we did receive outstanding service from Tammy in the restaurant. When we went in for breakfast the first day, we only had lackluster service, but upon being served by Tammy the next day, we made sure to always sit in her section. She was friendly, nice as could be, and eager to get us anything we needed. Tammy really exemplified the kind of service you should receive at a hotel. The Westin needs more employees (and housekeepers) throughout their lineup like Tammy.
Now, for the room: disturbingly, our room contained a toilet from hell. Like something out of a nightmare, our toilet would gurgle up and spray water everywhere when flushed, getting toilet water on the seat and floor — ew. Maybe I’m just a germaphobe, but I was not a fan of that, to say the least. Other than that, the room was pretty typical — nothing fantastic, but nice.
Would I stay here again? Possibly. The rate is cheaper than staying in the heart of Downtown Austin, and it wasn’t a horrible experience. But were it not for the help of Brandon and Audrey (albeit 2 days late) and the fantastic service of Tammy, this would probably be a 2 star review. If I did stay here again though, I’d be sure to get a room without the demonic, spewing toilet. And I’d pack my own toilet paper and shampoo.

Average hotel and service. Room wasn’t ready when I checked-​in, room service was below average, and I called multiple times housekeeping for toiletries that were never delivered.

I stayed at the Westin Domain and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is very clean and the area it resides in is up and coming. It reminds me a lot of Houston’s city center. The room was very clean the one we stayed in. The hotel bar is top notch and it also has numerous sitting areas within the lobby and other parts around the lobby. There is plenty to do around the Domain itself. There is a lot of shopping and the Domain has some good restaurants not to mention a very upscale movie theater. If you stay at this hotel, you must go to the restaurant called Gloria’s which is simply awesome. It is literally across from the hotel. You will not be disappointed by this restaurant. The hotel also has a good pool area plus a fitness center. All in all, it was a very nice place to stay at. I definitely recommend it.

So I stayed here this past bc Valentines Day weekend as we were in town for a wedding. The hotel location is nice… out in the burbs of Austin but near plenty of shopping and food options. The Domain (shopping area where it is located) is about 20 mins from downtown.
Upon arrival the staff was exceptionally courteous. We didn’t feel rushed and the staff made sure we were pleased with our school accommodations. The hotel was pretty packed with wedding guests, convention attendees, and guests in town for a sporting event. Even when returning for the evening the staff when out of their way to welcome us back as we approached the elevator.
The room was nice, hosting a large king size bed with clean linens. We had a room with floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the shopping plaza. The bathroom was a little on the small side but still nice with a large walk in shower (nice frameless glass shower). And there is a fridge. YES, THANK YOU.
Overall for everything that was going on it was pretty quiet. I slept like a dream all weekend.
Oh, I do believe this is a pet friendly hotel as I saw quite a few furry four-​legged friends around.
Lastly, the hotel parking is free and valet is also available. The hotel is only 8 stories high so if you like being in the clouds you may have to compromise. I believe there is a heated pool which for some is somewhat of a nice substitute.

What a pleasant stay my husband and i had here for the night of our marriage. Being in the Domain i had very very high hopes, and with those high hopes came lots of possible down. Luckily they had none for me. We had a king suite, the bed was absolutely the most comfortable bed i have ever slept in, in years. Arriving we did have an issue with «who’s card is on the account» since our friends paid for it, having us wait in the lobby in my white dress for 15 minutes (awkward). But shortly after it was all resolved and we were good to go :) The bed had flower petals and roses and candles in the room, as well as a complimentary wine (Very sweet, but we don’t drink ;)) and my fav, chocolate covered strawberries! ON THE HOUSE! Thank you for meeting our needs, i would recommend this to any of my friends and family :)

Pros: Clean, friendly, fun bar with a few local draft beers, nearby to the Domain upscale mall
Cons: Must drive to downtown Austin, bar below north end of hotel is loud most of the night, so makesure to sleep on the other side!

$ 441 a night for mold. That’s right. Mold. I arrived at the hotel late and headed straight to bed. The next morning I had to be up early for a meeting. Jumped in the shower and was greeted by pulsating black and green mold. Not just one area, but multiple. In the corners, near the soap, and near the shower door ledge. This place should be ashamed of itself.
When I mentioned it to the front desk they didn’t apologize but told me they would tell the maid staff. Yeah right. Never again.

4 diamond hotel makes you feel like a princess.
The Westin at the Domain has the best staff. They’re so accommodating and polite not to mention fair. I say fair because our key cards didn’t work for the first 2 out of the 3 nights of our stay and we would have to go down stairs every night to have them re-​keyed. When we talked to the staff downstairs they apologized, and comped us 4 free breakfasts. That’s like an $ 80.00 value, just for not having working keys and for the inconvenience. I will say that it was pretty annoying/​inconvenient so I’m really glad they were able to keep my family happy with free food. :)
The hotel is in a prime location whether you want to shop at the Domain, drive to Mt. Bonnell, or eat at Chinatown or even browse S. Congress. I’d stay here again just for the convenience.
Since it was the holiday season, wi-​fi was free but I think after the holiday season, wi-​fi will be charged to the room on weekdays and is only free on weekends. Not to worry though, there is a full functioning (computers + printer) in the business center downstairs and those can be accessed with your key-​card.
Housekeeping was a tad slow, as they didn’t get to our room until about 3pm everyday. The first day they refilled the coffee packets at the coffee bar but did not refresh our tea so we would have to call room service to bring up more tea. The rest of the days, the coffee bar was refilled with cream, sugar, tea, Starbucks coffee, and Tazo tea bags.
I hate soft mattresses but the beds here are just soft and firm enough to give you a comfortable night’s sleep. I think there are even two types of pillows as well, a soft one and a firm one per your preference.
We stayed on the 7^th floor and our view overlooked the pool area which was really nice.
The only two cons about this place is that empty dishes from room service were left in the hallways overnight which made for an unpleasant walk to our rooms. It just make the hallways look dirty. Those dishes should be picked up more often. Also, the walls are super thin. We could hear a baby crying a few doors down or below… and one morning I woke up to our neighbor throwing up. Not a pleasant sound to wake up to. Must have partied too hard on 6^th street. I’m not sure if it was the walls being too thin, or if the suite-​style rooms just cause noises to be much louder and more noticeable.
besides that, the stay was pleasant, and the staff is professional. I would definitely stay here again and since this place is dog-​friendly, I think I’ll bring a little companion here as well! :)
