Went to Tony’s today for lunch. Picked up a jerk chicken platter with rice, plantains and cabbage salad. Chicken tasted good but the rice tasted bad. It tasted and smelled like it had been cooked and left out overnight. Judging from all the other reviews I hope this is a one time thing and it doesn’t happen again. But I won’t be going there again.

Woohoo! Don’t ask me about the authenticity of this place cause I wouldn’t know. I just know you can have an affordable, delicious, filling dinner here. I asked for recommendations and he suggested the Curry Chicken if you don’t like spicy and the Jerk Chicken if you do. I am not a fan of spicy, but I was curious to try their Jerk Chicken! So he offered to put the spicy sauce on the side. You get chicken + rice & beans + 2 grilled plantains + 2 carrots + cabbage all in a black styrofoam container. The portion is generous, the chicken was moist, and the veggies are well-appreciated. I also love the plantains to add that sweet kick to your meal. There is plenty of outdoor, SHADED seating which is a bonus. My only gripe is that there were a TON of flies flying around us as we tried to eat. Seriously, my friend was chowing away for fear of the flies eating her food before she did. So a tip may be to get your food to-go. Other comments: — Street parking — $ 5 minimum for credit card

Hadn’t been here in a while, but they are always on point and authentic. Get the Jamaican Patties(which are baked meat pies/empanadas). Beef is my fave. I have a weakness for the Jerk Chicken or Jerk Pork. Big portions, so enjoy those left overs.

For the most part the food is good. The rice is usually not consistent and taste different every other time. About a month ago I probably would have still given this place a 4⁄5 but after standing in line for over an hour for food I had to reconsider my review. After standing in line for an hour I get to the front and they are out of what I want to order, not letting the line know what is available and what is out. The prices are kind of high for Caribbean food but being that it is one of the only Jamaican spots I can understand why.

Are you Jamaican cause u Jamaican me crazy ;) F.O.O.D Authentic Jamaican food. The popular jerk chicken or pork is $ 8 while the other popular dish — oxtail is $ 12. Every entrée comes with seasoned rice, a cole slaw type of salad, and fried plantains. The meat is so tender and the sauce mixes well with the rice. I got the jerk chicken which came with a lot more bones so I would suggest getting the jerk pork if you’re not fond of messy eating. S.E.R.V.I.C.E Typical food truck. You order at the window and then walk up when they yell out your order. They were polite and Tony even wiped down the wooden table for us A.T.M.O.S.P.H.E.R.E There was live Jamaican music playing which added a nice touch. Seating is ample and all seats are outside. Remember to bring your own water if you’re not going to buy a drink there(very expensive — $ 2 for a can of soda) They do not have free water cups.

One of my favorite places to eat in Austin! Super authentic and tasty Jamaican food. I highly recommend getting the jerk chicken or the oxtail — I actually got a combo of both. The jerk chicken is coated with a unique mixture of seasoning and has some spice which provides a nice kick to your taste buds. The oxtail is super tender and flavorful as well! The meal comes served with a small salad, plantains(which are SO delicious!!!), and rice that is seasoned and fragrant. They also provide Jamaican sodas which are fun to try! The service is super welcoming and there is a nice outdoor area to eat. Definitely coming back here soon!

Are you tired of going to the same place to eat? Are you feeling trapped in your place not knowing where to go out? Are you looking to go to a different country but still stay in the same city? WELLGOTO Tony’s Jamaican Food! Rep that Green and Yellow, namsaying? Authentic Jamaican food as well as Jamaican accents, with free live music from across the street, and group seating. Don’t miss out. The fried plantains are personally my favorite and come with any dish. I love the Jerk chicken and Jerk pork super juicy and tender, but Ive also had the oxtails which is a bit more pricey(~12) Great attentive staff and honestly something new to try out. Deserves more attention and open til 1AM on Fri/Sat for my friends that get lit at night.

The crew & I drove up for an event & decided to stay for lunch. We wanted something different so we decided to search for a Jamaican joint with great reviews — Tony’s it was! The location is quaint, the young lady who took our order was pleasant, the wait time was good(there were just 2 people ahead of us). We ordered beef & chicken patties and the curry chicken plate(came with cabbage, rice & peas, and plantains). The food was tasty; however, it doesn’t quite compare to the food I’ve had in NYC or even San Antonio, specifically. The chicken was cooked well, it seemed very fresh, but the curry was unlike any curry I’ve ever had — to be honest, it tasted like the sauce included A1 steak sauce. Again, it was tasty, but was unlike any curry I’ve ever had and I’ve had quite a bit. The cabbage was pretty much flavorless, but nice texture(not mushy). The rice & peas we’re okay. The beef Patty was straight out of a Tower Isle box — thankfully we love TI patties. The plantains we’re DELICIOUS, but I literally only had 2. Tony came out & greeted the patrons — nice touch. Would I eat there again? More than likely, if I’m in the area & want something different. the quality and price outweigh my interpretation of its authenticity.

Had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. We got there a bit early before he opened up. We had the jerk chicken and jerk pork combo. It included rice and cabbage. The food was delicious and we did not wait too long once we got our order in. This truck/restaurant is on the block of a very hot and busy food scene/street in Austin so I would get there with time on your side. Also be prepared to search for parking. Had a great talk with the gentleman from the truck. He’s a good cook from Kingston. I would definitely visit this place again.

It’s amazing that many of the best food trucks in Austin seem to go relatively unnoticed, though for those of us who seek them out, that’s probably lucky. I wandered over here on a Friday night after work, having been steered by the promises of an excellent and highly authentic meal by other Unilocalers. There were no customers, though it’s open till at least midnight. Based on the high-quality food, this must be one of Austin’s best kept secrets. The menu is straightforward — a few classic-sounding meat dishes, including chicken(served spicy or mild), pork, goat curry, and oxtail. Each entrée comes with a side of rice and beans, and plantains. The pricing is quite reasonable, ranging from $ 8 for the chicken dishes to $ 15 and up for combo plates. I declare it totally worth the money, as a heavy dose of love and affection accompanies the delicious, intense flavors in every bite of Tony’s cuisine. I ordered the jerk chicken, thinking I could easily handle the«spicy» label that the owner attaches to this dish. I’ve had jerk chicken before and had no trouble with the spice level… plus, having grown up on kimchi I figured to be easily prepared. Right? Wrong. The jerk sauce was out of this world, and absolutely kicked my a**. My mouth and lips were burning for a good 20 minutes, but the food was excellent. The chicken was cooked tender and juicy, and indeed comes off the bone easily. The jerk sauce adds an inviting touch of salt/spice, before the heat kicks in. I wish there was more meat and less bone, but wouldn’t take anything away from the taste. The rice and beans were perfect and refreshing, I practically ate all of that first. And the plantains were amazing, maybe the best I’ve ever had. They were so sweet, right to the core. Makes me love them even more. This is one solid meal that will give your taste buds a different spin and leave you satisfied. I plan on going back to sample the oxtail — sounds like a delicacy — and some meat patties!

We came by here for a late night dinner. Because a lot of us were pretty full from all the food we ate during the day, the 6 of us decided to share 3 dishes. We ordered the oxtail, jerk chicken, brown chicken. I was a fan of all 3 but especially loved the oxtail. the rice dish was pretty delicious along with the plantains. If only we weren’t so full already, I think we could have enjoyed this so much more. Just glad we got to try it!

Jamaican food is one of my absolute favorite cuisines. There are a few other cuisines that when done right pack as much in your face flavor, depth, and demands your attention as Jamaican food can. Unfortunately, here in Austin, our options for Jamaican food are limited to pretty much only two places and they charge a premium for it. I went with their oxtail which is my go to dish for Jamaican. It was good relative to Austin. I have to say though, I think they are pricey and so is the only other Jamaican food option I know of in town(Tony’s oxtail is actually cheaper than the other place). Maybe they are higher because there is little to no competition. I was recently in NYC and had amazing Jamaican food(better than here and that is not meant as a knock on Tony’s). There I got both oxtail and curry goat for $ 15 total(including tax) and it was delicious. Here only the oxtail is $ 12.99(including tax) and nearly half the amount of food of what I got in New York. The oxtail/goat curry combo here is $ 18. I just think that’s a lot for a food trailer and especially considering it wasn’t as good as what’ I’ve had in NY. I realize it may be unfair of me to compare the Jamaican food scene here vs. NY. The woman working the truck was really nice and when I have the hankering I would come here again. I’m just not too keen on paying a premium for just ok Jamaican food.

Hailing from NYC, with some of the best Jamaican food spots, I was interested in hitting up Tony’s after learning about it through Unilocal.I’ve been craving some jerk chicken for a while and Austin isn’t exactly the hub for Jamaican cuisine. On a day off from work and free during lunch time, I decided why not check this place out?! I found it pretty easy, and I was glad no one was there so I could order and chow down. I met Tony, who seemed to be a nice and genuine guy. I ordered my Jerk Chicken with rice and peas and maduros(Sweet plantains). Tony hooked up the plate and the display was very nice. He was cleaning a table by me and we started chatting and had a nice convo. As for the food, it was just ok. I cannot say there was anything wrong with my meal, but it just didn’t hit me as I felt it should have. Was it the best? Gosh no. But was it the worst? Nah. I feel that if you’ve never had authentic Jerk Chicken with rice and peas, you would be satisfied. But as someone who grew up in NYC around lots of Jamaican’s and even had my honeymoon in Beautiful Jamaica, I can’t say that I was not disappointed. I love to support local businesses, especially from good people so I give Tony’s a thumbs up. As for me, I won’t be running back there unless I have another serious Jerk Chicken craving. Perhaps I’ll just wait till I get back to NYC.

Delicious fall off the bone jerk chicken. This had a lot of herb spices to it. Very clove I think. The one we had in Jamaica was a bit different. But I like it both! The building is a small trailer or something. But there’s a lot of green around it. There is a little open building in the front to provide shade. It was prob over 100 degrees outside. So we ate as fast as we could and left. But after having been bit by some ants under the picnic table and having some bird poop on the table too. Hmm appetizing! Hahah But I would eat the jerk chicken again. It was good, juicy and moist! Be careful of bits of bones though.

I can’t believe I forgot to review this place a few weeks ago! Tony’s food popped into my head during a dream last night, and I may just have to venture down to have some more really soon. My husband and I shared a plate of peas and rice and jerk chicken which also included a small salad off to the side and of course, some fried plantains and sweet potato. The peas and rice in particular were spectacular — fantastically seasoned and moist. The jerk chicken was also really good, but we have had a little better elsewhere. Anyways, four stars — this place is pretty good!

Food: 4⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 Ambiance: 4.5÷5 This is a little food truck in the East side and I could smell it’s deliciousness as I approached the order window! The owner is so friendly. The menu is short and sweet — high lights are jerk chicken/pork, oxtail and brown stewed chicken. I tried the oxtail and jerk chicken. Servings are very generous and the dishes come with red bean rice and a few fried plantains. The oxtail came with three, big, meaty and tender pieces. I’ve been to a few other Caribbean style/Jamaican food places and this one tastes unique in that I feel like there’s perhaps a hint of coconuttiness in the flavoring. Only reason why it’s not a straight 5 is because I wish the dish included a few veggies.(The place i frequent in Seattle has a little slaw on the side so i’m used to it) He’s built a little greenhouse looking tent for people to sit in if it’s raining which i thought was pretty neat-o. It was raining when we went… LOL
