History

Established in 1978.

Our story began in 1978 in Tyler, Texas. Back then we were a single store specializing in tennis and running. Within a few years we were nationally recognized as one of the top 25 specialty running stores in the United States.

Today we are proud to offer our customers a vast selection of superior athletic, lifestyle and collegiate apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and youth in five convenient Texas locations.

Our original store in Tyler is called Racquet and Jog. We have two stores in Austin; one on the main drag across from the University of Texas main campus, and another at Villages of Westlake located on the southeast corner of Bee Caves and Capitol of Texas Highway. Our Dallas location is in the heart of University Park/​Highland Park on Lovers and very close to the Dallas North Tollway. Our newest and largest store is located at Southlake Town Square.

Think Pac Sun, Texas Style. Tyler’s is a local chain, including this location across from the University of Texas. Smaller than some of their other locations, this store feels a little more cramped. Prime location so I can see why they make it work.
If you need another size in the classic «Keep Austin Weird» t shirt you will need to hunt down a sales associate so they can dig through the card board boxes that hold the extras. You may have to go to another store location for an in demand style or size.

Great selection, though you have to chase the staff down to get them to assist you. I selected a style of running shoe I liked, but needed a size smaller. The first staff member disappeared and I had to track down someone else to help me finish the fitting.

If you want a «Keep Austin Weird» t-​shirt, then Tyler’s is the place to go. They have a multitude of colors and designs available.
If you need Nike Tempo running shorts, then Tyler’s is the place for you. They also sell plenty of colorful (baggy) t-​shirts. You know what/​who I’m talking about.
More relevant to me is Tyler’s impressive array of footwear ranging from Vibrams to TOMS to Vans. Individual shoes often go on sale, so be sure to check back frequently.

This is where a girl shops if you want a fitted UT jersey without it looking like you have a snuggie on! Great selection of fitted tees. Little bit pricy though.

And they ask for your bag in the front counter.
And for any $ 30 or $ 50 buying, they also will ask for a ID if you give them your credit card!
I’ll certainly will not return to this tourist trap!

The coolest t-​shirt store in Austin! Great for picking up a cute tee as a souvenir for yourself, or a loved one back home. The also have a display case full of cute watches, bracelets and other jewelry. They have a good amount of sports gear and a back wall full of sneakers.
The strip that Tyler’s is located off of has some other cute shops and places to eat.

Soooo overpriced… but soooo awesome at the same time. Such a horrible combination. I had heard about this store from a close friend and when we visited Austin we had to hit up Tyler’s! It definitely did NOT disappoint, as the bright, neon colors and awesome-​hip vibe just drew you in. I love pretty much everything in the store, and probably would’ve spent more money then I needed to if I hadn’t had a mental kick in the head from my debit card. I did leave with a Tyler’s logo shirt. It’s like the mandatory thing to buy in Texas haha Go check this place out and be wowed by its awesomeoness.

This is where I get all my overpriced and awesome UT and Austin themed American Apparel tshirts. These are consistently my favorite tshirts, and I’ve worn them for over 10 years and keep getting more each time I go to the Drag about once a year or so. So maybe they aren’t overpriced after all. Tylers Austin FTW! The Dallas location sucks, btw.

A bit cluttered, and despite tons of staff, not very proactively helpful — more interested in hanging out with each other.
However, the sidewalk sales had really good prices — found a collared shirt for $ 10 that is one of my new favorites.

I never knew Tyler’s was kind of a chain, I just always thought it was like a one off place on Guadalupe in Austin but apparently they have an online store and everything!
When I came the were having a great Vans blow out, as well as some DC blow outs, which meant shoes were only $ 20 a pair! For anyone who is a big fan of Vans or DC knows this is a killer deal. They also have so many different kinds of Toms and other shoes that rival the selection at stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.
The shopping here is casual, the clothes are for casual wear and the tshirts are hilarious. Totally awesome place to do shopping especially during one of their sales and a great place to pick up some basics as well for comfortable casual wear.

Oh, Tyler’s. Offering employment to the young and clueless since… whenever they opened. It’s technically a skater shop, though judging from the women’s merch, they’re more like a Tyler’s tees, UT paraphernalia and Nike running shorts shop. I asked one of the stock guys if they had bike shorts and he said… what are bike shorts? Sorry dude, you were nice, but if you work in a store that at least pretends to sell sports gear, shouldn’t they train you on what sports gear looks like?
Despite the lack of training, the sales people do try… once I had a guy track me down through the store because he’d finally found the size of shoes I was looking for. High five.
I’ve bought random things here over the years, mostly Nalgene bottles and shoes. If it’s hip and the Greek kids are wearing or using it, Tyler’s has it. They’re just not a sports store.

Needed a new pair of shoes. The guy was super helpful, bringing me a bunch of stuff in my size to figure out what I liked best. He wasn’t pushy, he was knowledgeable, and I was in and out in 30 minutes. I’ll be going back.

Why so expensive. WHYYY.
I love coming here to check out the clothes. «Oh, that looks good. Let’s go to Academy and get those tomorrow.» As you can tell, it’s a convenient place to find what you want so you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
They’re smart for making people leave their backpacks at the counter before going in. With such high prices, they’re just asking for shoplifters.
Their tees ARE super soft though… so once in awhile, I actually get sucked into buying SOMETHING from this place.

Tyler’s on the drag is a trap for tourists and dullards. The schizophrenic merchandise offering confounds and confuses. Willie Nelson CDs, Pepper Spray, and Ping-​pong balls do not convey a clear impression of what Tyler’s is trying to be. But then again, maybe they’re trying to embody their ‘Keep Austin Weird’ t-​shirts.
To echo other sentiments, service is dismal. After talking to the cashier I found out why: training is next to non-​existent. So I guess the employees really are doing what they were trained to do.
The layout is beyond cluttered and inspires feelings of claustrophobia. If you step off the main path you will immediately become lost in a jungle of overpriced neon wares (most of the clothing you can find at Pac-​sun for half the price). Furthermore, if you’re under 5’8″ you won’t be able to see over the crowded displays. This is great for a 5 year old’s game of hide-​and-​go-​seek, but bad for commerce.

In Dallas I see the t-​shirts. Still don’t get it.
Everything there can be had elsewhere for less. We did get a «Keep Austin Weird» hat. Yep… touristy. Otherwise I found it a tad snooty. The guy behind the counter was very nice and cool.
And for the record. The t-​shirts are not pretty, no matter what color they are.
