Unicorn Moving

I hired Unicorn Moving to pack and move our things out of our house to a temporary storage facility for a few months while our house is being remodeled. We used their packing service, storage crates and facility in addition to the POD service. They did a great job!
The last thing clients remember is the feeling we have when the PODS, crates, and crew drive away and the house is empty. I can confidently say that I have never been more pleased. Ronnie, Shawn, Daniel, and Brent packed my house with extreme care, concern and regard for my wishes and our «stuff». Add Burton on moving day — and I had an ALL STAR TEAM!
Ronnie — He did a superb job of explaining every single step. From the moment they walked into my home to the minute they pulled out, he was the big picture guy. He explained process, charges, materials. I just couldn’t have been happier having Ronnie as the guy who explained it all. He has a bright future ahead with Unicorn. I spent a little time at the end of Day 1 talking with Ronnie. I am so proud of him. He is on the straight and narrow path and knows what he wants and where he’s going.
Shawn — What I love about Shawn is his very positive, upbeat attitude! He is definitely hyperactive (he reminds me of my husband’s hyperactivity), but man, that guy gets it done! And he has fun while doing it! He enjoys life and is just a delight to have around. He is such an asset to the team!
Daniel — The first day Daniel was very quiet, listening to his music while he packed. The second day, wow! Without those headphones while he was moving, he just got down to business and took charge. He made sure everything I needed was taken care of. He asked me how I wanted certain things packed, where I wanted them (in the POD or crate), and so on. Daniel is a keeper and I hope he realizes that his concern for the clients’ wishes is much appreciated.
Brent — What a crazy worker. I am so proud of Brent and his willingness to do a great job for Unicorn clients. Brent is a quiet guy (he reminds me of my youngest son in a way) but he can get it done. He has such a bright future and I am so very confident that his path to success is lined with people like Unicorn, who are obviously a great employer and role model to the team.
Burton — Although I did not get the opportunity to know Burton like I did the other guys, he is a stand up guy and did a great job. What I loved to see when watching Burton work is his ability to creatively think outside the box. He always had a quick solution to remedy something (sometimes shot down by the others) but nonetheless, he did not hesitate to offer his suggestions. I personally thought some of them were good solutions. I love to see a desire to solve problems — that’s what I do all day long in my profession!
Scott, last but not least, you provided great quotes, revised them when my needs changed and did an awesome job of keeping me informed with schedules, arrivals, costs, etc. Scott, great job! Kuddos to you all. I couldn’t be happier and I hope that Ronnie, Shawn, Daniel, Brent and Burton are still with you come June or July when it’s time to move back into my home.
Can you tell that I give all these guys an A+? I will very confidently refer their team of All Star players.

I called Unicorn for an emergency move after I found myself in a very bad roommate situation. I’ve never used movers before but desperate times etc. They told me because I didn’t have very much stuff I should get a quote based on what they’d be moving because it would be cheaper than their hourly minimum. I explained the situation and they were able to schedule me when said roommate was not around.
The next day Ronnie and Brent showed up and were very sweet and understanding considering how anxious I was to get out. I had some china that was my grandmother’s that they wrapped and packed for me and wrapped all my furniture with blankets.
The only thing they couldn’t do was unhook my washer because it was a liability issue but they let me borrow their tools and told me what to do. I ain’t no slouch anyway. At the new place they put everything where I wanted it at which point I could finally breath again. Having heard some horror stories about moving companies I am so glad I found one of the good ones. Thank you so much Unicorns!

I found and picked Unicorn moving based on reviews. However I had an awful experience. During the move, one of the movers shattered my tv and laughed about it. It was a nice $ 600 tv! And they just blew it off and kept saying I would get reimbursed in full for the tv. After 1 week of not hearing from them, I called to find out the damages they would pay for would only be $ 20! As a consolation, the man said he had worked the check up to $ 75! After fighting with them for too long, I just let it go when the most they would reimburse was $ 200. Very unprofessional. I would never recommend this company.

This is an updated review based on my entire experience with Unicorn Moving.
Contacting Unicorn, getting an estimate, and scheduling the move were easy. They were able to commit to a flat-​fee, in-​town move on a Friday with less than 2 weeks’ notice. The price seemed a little high but not unreasonable, and I felt the flat-​fee was the way to go, since I really didn’t know how long the move could take. I ultimately chose Unicorn based on recommendations from several friends and family here in town.
Right on schedule, they showed up at my condo with a big truck and got to work. They got all my things moved onto the truck quickly and efficiently. It was helpful to have them show up with wardrobe boxes, since they’re not really reusable at home, and it gave me something to do while they worked.
From there, the short story is that the truck broke down and they had to transfer my things to a new truck, which ended up taking all day. But trucks break down sometimes; I can’t fault them solely for that. Throughout the ensuing fiasco, I can’t deny that some mistakes were made by the individual movers and by the office management. But at the end of the day, everyone was polite, respectful, and hard-​working, and helpful.
After the move, management was very receptive and apologetic when it came to the various issues that I reported (some items were not moved, some items were slightly scratched, and I felt that I was overcharged for additional items). They sent a specialist to my new home who did a great job repairing some minor scratches on my table, and they agreed to compensate me for some of the other complaints. I felt like they cared enough to follow up and make sure I was made whole and totally satisfied following our difficult move.
Other than the mechanical problems, I felt like the move as a whole went about as well as I could have expected (i.e., I wasn’t anticipating perfection). I would recommend Unicorn and hire them again based on the hard work I saw from the movers and from the commitment to customer service and accountability on the management side. I think this is a great company and that my experience was just a series of unfortunate circumstances that won’t happen again.

I used Unicorn based on the reviews. Big mistake. They never followed up and acted like they were doing me a favor by even giving me a quote. Very pricey. The movers actually argued with me after urinating in my toilet when I was at work– I came home to find disgusting pee in my brand new toilet with the seat up.
They broke a few of my things but I did not bother to contact them because they were so rude and difficult to deal with in the first place. I used another moving company for another move I had a couple months later. I would never use them again– especially for the serious money that I spent on sub par service.

If I can give Unicorn Movers 0 stars I would have. I took a Thursday off of work and reserved my apartment elevator so that the movers could have easy access to get in and out quickly. Unfortunately they were not told by management to bring packing material so decided to reschedule for Saturday. I cleared my schedule again for a 1:30 arrival window and again I had to reserve an elevator. I called management at 1:30 no answer…2:30 no answer. Finally I get a call at 3:30 that the movers are running late and should be there no later then 4:30. 4:30 roles around…5:30 roles around and the manager is screening my phone calls and had no remorse dragging me along and giving me false information. The movers finally call me at 7:30 and didn’t leave my house till well after 11 PM at night. The company is very poorly run and extremely unprofessional. After wasting two full days of my life to move a small apartment they give me a $ 50 discount. Are you kidding me! Too many companies out there keep looking elsewhere

I called Unicorn Moving and received a quote, priced per item. We set up a date and time for the move, I provided both address, and all my information.
Moving day comes and I wait for at least an hour, but no one shows up. So I called the office to check on the status. The guy who answers the phone says there is no move scheduled for today. He said he could find a online quote and that’s it. I told him I had CALLED and had definitely set up an appointment.
He just denied it. No, no appointment today. And he didn’t bother to offer to reschedule or apologize for the confusion. Nothing at all. Just no.
I should have known. Unicorns are a mythical creature! Why did I think they would show up?! I definitely went with another company. Didn’t use this company and never will, ever.

The best, most hard-​working and skilled movers I have used in Austin:
*Scheduling was easy (Don’t wait until the last minute!)
*The truck showed up on-​time
*Both movers were kind, professional, and highly skilled moving large, heavy furniture
*My move involved pick-​ups at two locations before a single drop-​off. No matter the traffic or parking situations, nothing rattled these movers. They were «old pro’s» in the truest sense of the word.
(I use the very good College Hunks Movers as my backup choice when I’ve waited too long to schedule and Unicorn is unavailable.)
Thus far, Unicorn has set the bar as the very best in Austin.

They did a great job — on-​time, on-​budget, and friendly/​professional movers.

Would use again in a heartbeat. Movers were very helpful, efficient, and patient. I recommend this place if you don’t have a lot of items because they only charge you for what you need moved, rather than a flat rate per hour. We showed up to the storage facility I reserved and it turned out to be illegitimate. Both men immediately took us to another facility when we were in a dilemma. They were patient and efficient. I would have used a unicorn storage initially but they were all booked. I can see why though. It’s great service and Scott (the man who makes your quote and reservation) is very friendly and helpful as well.

I cannot say enough great things about Unicorn Moving. At the suggestion of a friend, I called them up and got a quote/​booked them about 2 – 3 months before my move. They arrived on time, were quick and careful, and even helped with moving some additional items into my car for me. They were extremely pleasant and got the job done, and the price was very reasonable. I will be using them next time I move!

Just had Ryan and Mustafa move our house from Austin to San Antonio. They called me twice just to verify they had the right dates, times, and address. They showed up on time and quickly got to work, didn’t waste any time I was paying for, and maintained a pretty professional attitude for a couple of guys who lift heavy things all day. I am impressed to say the least, I recommend this team, and Unicorn Movers.

Sean from Unicorn has completely redeemed this company in my opinion. Once they reviewed the notes from the lead mover they contacted me and we went through the list together. Sean recalculated and gave me a refund. He also kindly offered to send his guy out to me to fix any nicks in the furniture. Thanks for the quick response!

I wish I were one of the people on here that rated Unicorn Movers with four stars. As you can see from my other reviews I am the first one to give a good review, when deserved. I love to help others find great places to eat, to shop and serivces to use. This is one time where I felt I had to WARN people, DO NOT USE UNICORN MOVING!
We were referred to Unicorn by someone we knew becuase they knew one of the mangers. I also looked them up on Unilocal and saw that most of their reivews were good. I wish I had paid closer attention to the negative reviews, it could have saved me time, money and a lot of frustration.
We scheduled our move, were given a three hour time frame in a confirmation email, and then they never showed up! We called when it got close to the end of our three hour window and were told our movers were «stuck» on another job. It was already almost the end of our allotted time and the dispatcher told us the movers probably wouldn’t be back in the area for 90 min. or more! It was approaching the end of the business day and we had to be out of our current residence. We also had people lined up (friends) to help us unpack at our new residence. We were forced to find a moving truck and FAST! It was getting late we had to load our belongings into the truck ourselves, find a place to stay, and call and cancel all the friends we had waiting to help us unpack at our new home. To say we were angry and frustrated is an understatement! We now had to take a second day off work to move everything that should have been moved in a few hours the day before. Not to mention the fact that we now had no help unpacking as we couldn’t ask our friends to take more time off after they had wasted the entire day before waiting. I get mad all over agin just thinking about it!
Unfortunately, it was not surprsing to the company we rented the truck from that Unicorn had stood us up. They told us they stopped referring business to them because of so many people they encountered who were in our same predicament. We were also warned (too late) by two realtors that they also will not refer business to them. I wish someone had warned us.
We contacted Unicorn and they told us they would get back to us, but never have. I waited in hopes they would make it right but that hasn’t happened. If you’re like me, and haven’t lived in the area long you use Unilocal quite a bit to choose businesses to use. Do yourself a favor and pass on Unicorn Movers! I suggest asking a local truck rental or realtor who they refer to. It’s too late for us but save yourselves!!!

I have moved over two dozen times in my lifetime. When you move you take on certain risks.
In this case Unicorn sent me three movers.
They arrived on time.
My team consisted of a father, son, and a «newbie»
The son and the newbie were strong and the father was highly organized.
This is, perhaps, the best moving experience I have ever had.

I have mixed feelings about Unicorn Moving. The two men they sent over got the job done but one wasn’t feeling good (upset stomach, non contagious). Where I felt the other was taking inventory of my stuff. He would pick up one box look at it then put it down, pick up the next, look at it then put it down. Seriously??? Made me very uncomfortable! Then they moved a bookshelf and one let go before the other so the edge was damaged
Price wasn’t bad though.

I had a great experience hiring Unicorn to send two guys over to help me load my U-​Pack trailer. Their guys were careful and creative in figuring out how to move some weirdly large pieces down a tight turn.
They didn’t just move everything efficiently but they packed it all expertly into the trailer for me. Unicorn was recommended to me by a friend and I would 100% in turn recommend them to anyone in the market.

They arrived on time, within the two hour window, and did a great job. We selected to go with the hourly loading into storage containers that they provided to be stored in their facility. Then the hourly rate to be delivered and unloaded three weeks later.
The reason I mentioned the hourly rate twice, they were lightning fast! We were quoted four hours tops for our load and they knocked everything out in two!
Rudy and Ryan were a great crew and I would recommend them to anyone I know, professional and took great care of our things.

Moving Day.
Two words that can strike dread into the most stalwart, even the most prepared heart. Even though we’d been gradually moving for a month and all that was left was the furniture (and the few swallows of wine left in the fridge), I went to bed dreading this day and woke up dreading it. Woke up EARLY that is. Our movers were to be arriving between 8 and 9 a.m. so we got up at 6 to break down the beds and finalize everything (also to get tacos and donuts and Red Bull cause you just have to have energy for this day).
Our guys showed up at 8:45. Two swell, happy fellas that immediately shook hands and introduced themselves and got to work. What should have been a stressful exhausting day became almost fun (and exhausting) as they sang along to the old soul music they played and made jokes and laughed and lifted things like glass encased curio cabinets like they were the couch pillows.
And of course it rained.
«That’s no problem!» said Albert as they just wrapped everything up and put down cloths to try to keep everything dry and safe. We gave them Red Bull cause we’re smart like that and next thing I knew, all of my stuff was in the new house, in the right spot and reassembled in THREE HOURS time. No walls marked, nothing scratched or broken (except two of my fingernails but I can hardly blame them for that).
Huey and Albert really made the move a piece of cake, a truly mythical creature. The downside for them is we will request them to return and help us with Hubby’s power tools and his über heavy table saws. Sorry guys. Next time break something :)
