Vertex Handyman Service

I had a leaky pipe which messed up both my walls and my wood floors. The water damage also warped the door frame so the problems were very extensive. I found Nick through the Internet. Was encouraged by the good ratings. Communication was easy. Everything was done on time. No surprises in the pricing. I love would use this service again.

Nick is an absolute savior. I bought a house summer of 2013, had water damage repairs Dec 2013, the problem came back June 2014. Of course, the first repairman was MIA (KGB Repairs). That’s when I called 9 companies multiple times and the only one that got back to me was Nick.
He came out for an estimate, agreed it was crappy work the first time around, and talked to me about my options. I hired to him to replace/​install flashing, siding, boards in my deck, then paint the back of my house. He sent pictures throughout the process to assure me it was being done correctly which was AWESOME.
I’ve called him a few times for other house questions (lighting fixtures, roof leak, etc) and he’s always available to help! Highly recommend him.

We recently moved into a new home. We bought our appliances at Sears and paid them to have their people install the microwave. Well, they botched the job and after numerous attempts to have them come back to correct it, we finally fired them.
We found Vertex on Unilocal and Nick came out to give us a free estimate. We liked him, so we hired Vertex to fix what Sears couldn’t. He showed up on time. Once he disassembled everything and got a real good look at it, he gave me two options to fix the problem. One he thought would probably work and would only take him an hour or so. The other would definitely fix the problem, but would take a couple of days. Once he talked me through it, we decided to go with the cheaper option. I never once felt like Nick was trying to upsell me. He seemed to genuinely want to save me money by recommending the less expensive option.
Nick also was upfront about his schedule being booked for the next couple of weeks, so that if I wanted him to come back, he wouldn’t be able to for a while. Last, but not least, Nick cleaned up after himself. He did the job on time, he did it right the first time, and once he left, I couldn’t tell he’d ever been there. I really felt like we got our money’s worth.
We’ll definitely be using Vertex again in the future and I’d recommend them to anyone needing something done around the house. They’re experienced, professional and honest — everything you need.

Hi! I’m just writing to make a note of apology! I cancelled on Nick the morning of the job, so I can’t speak to his or his father’s skill. I had scheduled thinking that this was a «Handyman Service and Construction Company» as it appears on the website. After going back and reading the reviews and getting the reaction that I did at my last-​minute cancellation, I now realize that this is not a company with an army subcontracted professionals (the only type of handyman service I’ve dealt with in Austin), but a man and his father. I had NO clue!
I apologize for the morning-​of cancellation. I thought this was one of those services that you book and they send Joe Schmoe out to fix your tile… the type that has a million jobs lined up and were planning on showing up late to your little gig anyway… Sorry, Nick! And great marketing — I thought the company was a hell of a lot bigger than it is.
Just wanted to write a review that states that despite the name of the company and corporate-​esque appearance of the website, you are LITERALLY getting what you pay for — the person you speak with on the phone is actually the person who shows up to your house, with his dad! No subcontracted work to strangers and 3^rd parties here. Great to know.

This will be a long review as I’ve used Vertex for 4 years now.
Great handy man, Nick and Scott (his dad) — they’ve worked on my house since the first day I’ve owned it and I always have them work on it (i own a 30 year old townhome so there’s a lot of work to be done). They are VERY thorough and have a high quality of work. If you need work done on your own house, they are the guys to hire (although if you also rent out property, they can for sure do that too).
Things they have done:
Install Fence — CHECK! Fence is going on 4 years now and its still standing up. I had to paint/​stain it last year as it was getting weathered. Overall, great quality fence.
House siding: Replaced the entire back of my house’s side and they did it really fast. Nick is a wrecking crew! He will dismantle anything so fast its not even funny!
Inside house paint: Nick and Scott worked on the house before i moved in (2008), the taped and floated all the cracks, painted and textured — 4years later, no cracks, no nothing. Same quality as the first year!
Installed kitchen sink, fixed leaking AC unit — yes, Nick also does this kind of stuff. My AC unit is located upstairs and 3 years ago, it started leaking. Called him and and he fixed the leak.
Patio Roof — First patio roof lasted 2 – 3 years (not sure exactly) and it started leaking since the roof wasnt slanted right which caused puddles of water to form on top. After a couple of years, i talked to Nick about it and he said he will fix it. Came by, planned it and we bought the materials and he built it in a day! PLUS, he didnt charge me that much for labor as he felt he was making it right with the first roof version. Even though the old roof was more than 2 years old!
I dont think i’ll hire anyone else to work on my house… even if he’s booked by other jobs, i’ll wait until he can work on my projects.

I work long hours and I travel, bought new furniture from IKEA, and had little time to spend a day assembling the furniture by myself. I’m just not as handy as when I was younger, and frankly I just have no time. So when I bought the furniture, IKEA recommended Konkord Assembly. I called Konkord, they seemed to know a lot about IKEA furniture and the price seemed great, but I was concerned with calling a national phone number calling service to dispatch someone local. I want to call someone local who will stand by their work, and I can call them directly if I have questions or problems. That, plus I found some negative Unilocal reviews about Konkord in other cities which made me nervous.
So I googled for «austin furniture assembly» and the first result was Vertex. Website said they’re a family business. Called them, and sure enough it sounded like I called a family home and not some answering service. They knew a lot about IKEA furniture, and they sounded as professional as you’d expect a handyman to be. I was a little nervous about an hourly quote, but they seemed professional enough on the phone, I figured let’s give them a try. We scheduled the work in 2 days.
They showed up right on time, to the minute! 2 guys– one older, one younger (I figure they were related but I didn’t ask). They came with plenty of tools and fully prepared to work from the moment they stepped in the door. I only showed them the rooms & the boxes of furniture, explained what I wanted, and they immediately started.
I had them dis-​assemble and discard my old bed, assemble my new IKEA bed with nightstand, and disassemble/​move/​reassemble a glass & metal desk into another room. Disassembling & discarding the old bed took about as much time as assembling the new furniture.
I was home the entire time, and I could hear them working non-​stop while on the clock. When they had a question about placement of furniture or height-​settings on the bed frame, they confirmed with me rather than risk making a mistake. Total bill was $ 150 (which included an extra fee to discard my old bed).
In the end, I am happy with the work and price. They were professional, courteous, careful, and very knowledgeable about building IKEA furniture. They billed me for exactly how long it took, with no surprises or hidden fees. I do realize I could have found a better price elsewhere, but for the quality of service, I’m happy and would use them again.
