BOMB!!! looked a little rough coming in to the parking lot. But food was amazing. Had the DUKE and a banana pudding. New spot if I’m ever in Austin.

I frequently go to vics probably once a week for lunch. It’s good stuff. I usually get the duke but most of their stuff is pretty good. When I go, I’m pretty hungry so I just eat and run. I’m not one of those foofy bbq review freaks not even born in Texas types. It’s hard to screw up bbq. I’ve eaten at vics probably 25 times, Franklin’s zero…

Vics is a gem! I have never had something there that I did not like, any of my friends from back east that have visited me out here and joined me for lunch at Vics always ask me to bring them some when I go back home for holidays. The breakfast tacos are my fav though!

Vic’s is not the most classy diner I have ever patronized, but the food is solid BBQ fare and on similar plateau as a family BBQ. They offer good breakfast tacos and a hearty lunch. Access to this site is convenient being right off of Ben White(hiway 71).

Hole in a wall with a very good, solid BBQ. Great smell as you walk in. You can choose a one, two or three meat plate(ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage) and two sides(pinto beans, green beans, corn, potato salad, slaw). The ribs were smoked, tender and yummy! I did not need the BBQ sauce, I needed it for the pinto beans as they were a little bland. Once mixed with the sauce-awesome! The sausage was excellent, so was the brisket. Chicken looked good but I did not try any.

I had the pleasure of visiting Vic’ s while on a recent business trip to Austin. I liked it much that I ate there three days in a row. One day I had lunch and dinner there. This place is pretty legit and authentic. It looks a bit rough on the outside, but don’t let that deter you. The folks working there were very friendly. I ate the pork ribs, beef brisket sandwich(twice) and the big beef ribs. The beef ribs were my favorite and I think they only have that once a week — Thursdays I think. The sides were good — baked beans, corn, potato salad and the pickles. I loved the pickles. Meals come with a couple slices of plain, sliced white bread and you’re ready to go. Please pay them a visit and you won’t be disappointed.

First visit and I had the daily special, pork steak. Amazing. I was intending to share it, but no one got a piece. My dining partners loved the brisket. It was clearly so good, that they also didn’t feel a need to share it with me! I didn’t love the sides. I prefer a vinegar based slaw, but everyone has their preference.

I ate here by recommendation of the hotel. It was OK, I wasn’t impressed with the food. The ribs were a bit dry, however the brisket was good along with the homemade sauce. I must say that Vic Jr. was very professional and provided good service. Lastly, I thought there could have been more food in my combo for 16.00…

So yummy! I’ve had almost all the meats here, many times. I bring all my out of town guests to get food here and they all love it!

I stopped in here with my husband for dinner one evening. It is definitely A-Ok BBQ. Not the best, but it is good solid BBQ. I am a brisket and sausage girl myself, but my husband raves about their pork steaks here so I decided to get the 3 meat plate so I could have a little of each. I knew it would likely be too much food, but I could always take the leftovers home. This is just what I did. The sausage was ok, the brisket was good and flavorful, but the pork steaks were great! I don’t recall ever really seeing pork steaks as an option at most BBQ places around here, so I thought it was unusual. It is so easy to over cook port too, but these were done right. The smoke ring went almost all the way through the pork steak. The sides I had with my meat plate were the potato salad and beans, which were both just ok. If you are looking for some decent BBQ down south this is an option. I would stop in here again.

When I can’t get to Lockhart for bbq Viccs is one of my go-tos. They’ve got exceptional beef ribs! Only served on Thursdays and Fridays I believe. The pork ribs are yummie too! The brisket tacos are amazing. So simple but delicious. I am not a fan of the potato salad but the corn is definitely buttery goodness! Warning: The sausage is a greasy mess! Ewww! I’ve been going to Viccs for years and I must say their service has gotten much better thank goodness.

Went to Vic’s for lunch today with some co-workers. The building feels like it hasn’t changed a thing since it opened a few decades back. It had that Texas BBQ charm and character which got me excited to eat. Cafeteria line style. Pop up and put in your meat order and they then ask you to choose between cole slaw and potato salad. I chose the two meat ribs and brisket with slaw. Afterwards you get one additional side, I chose beans. Don’t forget to grab BBQ sauce at this point because it’s not on the table like I’m used to. Lil Vic was there and he could not have been nicer. Incredibly thankful and courteous to his guests. Every answer I have him was greeted with a «thank you» or «of course sir.» He was a pleasure to meet. As for the meat, overall it was a little dry while still having hunks of un-rendered fat. After cutting off the flavorless fat I wasn’t left with much meat to eat. The sauce helped rte flavor and moisture levels of the meat a little bit not enough. The sides were simple but tasty. They were also portioned a lot larger than I was expecting. Overall the atmosphere is a bit dated and rustic but that’s what you want in a BBQ place. The people were so nice and happy to see you. The sides were a plenty and tasty. The meat, the centerpiece of a BBQ place, fell short. Sad to see.

Vic’s bbq is officially off my a list. The sausage was drenched in grease; this is due to baking it in the oven. The brisket was also oven cooked. The potato salad was good and the green beans was the best part of my meal. I can’t see places get away with calling themselves a «bbq«place when they do not actually bbq the meat. Something told me to avoid this place today; i should have listened to that voice.

Vic’s is one of the best in town. Cheap, too. All meats are good, but their chicken is second to none. The smoky flavor is deep and permeates everything, and the sauce is less sweet than a lot around, but still definitely a Texas sauce. The only bad part really(good for the waistline though) is their hours.

My husband and I split the meat sampler platter. Everything was delicious and tender! The desserts we ordered were the banana pudding and coconut pecan pie. Also delicious! Our two sides were potato salad and corn. It was more than enough food for the both of us. It cost $ 25.00 so the price was right. Recommend it for people who want a taste of Texas BBQ at a good price without a long wait!

Let me preface this with what you should not expect here. This place is not a fine dining joint. Do not expect a table all to yourself. The clientele are not classy folk generally. What you will get. Amazing BBQ for a really good price. This place is the tops when you want BBQ for lunch and don’t have time to kill on a place like Franklin’s. The prices are really good for the quality of food you’re getting and I recommend this place on that alone. Once you have your food it is pretty much a self service experience so you don’t have to worry about bad waiters or tipping. You’ll probably eat right next to a bunch of strangers based on the layout of the tables. Think Beer Garden except with BBQ and a lot of blue collar folk. I’ve had some great conversations with people I’ve never met thanks to this arrangement. Overall the cost to quality ratio is greatly in favor of this place and I recommend it to anyone.

I went there today and felt like I was taken advantage of by an infomercial. Read the small print is all I can say. I read the menu and order a two meat combo plate. Noticed that the cutter gave me some really bad pieces of brisket(sliced in junks), and tiny ribs. Then, after handing me the plate I walked up to the condiments bar and grab pickles, onions, and jalapenos. I get up to the cashier to pay and my meal is about $ 3.00 more than the combo option I ordered. I politely tell the cashier that I had the 2 meat combo. She then tells me that if I read the small print to the side of the combo I would see that a rib combo is more. She explains, that this comes up all the time. Why don’t you change your menu then, instead of having small print??? Plate was still more than it should have been with that, but people were behind, so I just said oh well. As I sat down to enjoy my meal, I started looking over the receipt. They charged me $.35 for jalapenos for a total of $.70 at the condiments bar and $.25 for a plastic cup of water. I start looking around the restaurant and noticed there are little white signs everywhere in small print. Extra charge here, do not do this, do not touch this, etc… I agree with another review: Even Bill Miller’s is better. I would also say Rudy’s would be like Franklin’s compared to this placed. Food was dry and had no taste. The ribs had barely any meat on them to boot. The green beans tasted like they came out a can. Potato salad was blah… I hate to give such a bad review to a local business, but I can’t see myself ever going back. Sucks because I really wanted to like it. Read the small print!!! Come here and get VICCCCCeddddddd!!!

So. I eat here a lot because its close to work. I’m currently on a hi-protein diet. I didnt want any sides. I got 1 pork steak(AKA) Sliced Boston Butt and 2 Beef Ribs… this cost 20 dollars. That is rather excessive no matter how you look at it.

Sorry folks. We tried the pork ribs, brisket and sausage and our overall opinion is that Bill Miller’s is even better than this. Four hours later, I am still belching and tasting the ribs that seemed like they were baked or roasted in an oven instead of a pit. The brisket seemed to be prepared the same as the ribs. I wouldn’t go back, nor would I recommend to someone else.

Vic’s has been CONSISTENTLY fantastic since I have moved to Austin in 2001. WHY? It’s damn good bar-b-que that 1) doesn’t break the bank, 2) YOUWON’T HAVETOWAITINEXTREMELYLONGLINESTOHAVESOMEBBQ(ahhhem, Franklins), 3) has plenty of parking, and lastly but most importantly this place WILLNOTRUNOUTOFBBQ no matter how long you have been waiting to taste some local meat(s). A modest $ 8.99 for a 2-meat plate(ask for fat if you want fat on your brisket! They will be more than happy to leave some on for you) with 2 slices of bread and delicious homemade potato salad(or pinto beans that have a kick to it) — your choice. The sweet tea is excellent, as my boyfriend claims, and didn’t need extra sugar at all. Refills are free on tea and water of course. There is even a pot of coffee brewing all day for free(no cost). I will go back to try the burgers one day and maybe the tacos too. I noticed they have breakfast plates as well that I have yet to try on the cheap. LONGLIVEVIC’s BBQ! God knows I love my BBQ waaaaaay too much to have to stand and wait HOURS for it on the«east side». Ain’t nobody got time for that. I do, however, have time and extra money to have some of that sweet and delicious bread pudding that sits on the ice as you check out.
