Great store with a pretty wide selection of records. Would suggests being informed about the vinyls if that’s your area of interest. Bought a bootleg album that was unofficial so be careful. This release was not approved by the band and online is said to be fake. Picked up some legit records for a great price too.

Looove the great selection of vinyls, what I don’t love is the price for some of them. But oh well, comes with the territory!

This review is based on them as a vinyl shop. Let me start by saying I have been to Waterloo many years ago when they were in another location so I was shocked when I went in this past weekend. I was very disappointed. It’s a total tourist attraction now. So much for keeping Austin weird, it’s sold out just like the rest of the town.
There is parking, so you don’t have to search for street parking. But upon walking in, the staff was very unfriendly. There’s barely any used vinyl to look through. The majority of their records are remastered copies or new pressings. It’s not laid out very well either. There are very few used albums to look through and they are mixed in with the new. The metal and punk sections were small in the sense of they were only well known bands. I couldn’t find much European metal either. I’m totally baffled by all the reviews of how amazing this place is. Unless you are bringing your kid to pick up the new Cold Play or K Perry album I wouldn’t come here. There is no «crate digging» going on. Do yourself a favor and go to the other side of downtown to hit up End of an Ear, you will have much better luck there!

One of the most «famous» record stores in Austin. I have heard only good things about this place. When I went to pick up some albums they seemed priced evenly with what prices are online. Large selection of new and used vinyl that is very clearly labeled and organized. Staff is friendly and helpful.

What an awesome store! They have an amazing selection of new and used vinyl as well as CDs. Just when you think you’ve seen everything you find a whole new section with cool new stuff. We went in to this store while waiting for a table to become available at the diner next door. I’ve been planning on buying a turn table for some time now since I inherited a large record collection a few years back. When I saw they had some turn tables for sale, and there were some that I had been looking at online, I decided it was time to buy. It was a little difficult to find someone to help at first until we grabbed what we thought we needed and headed to the register. There, one of the sales associates greeted us and started explaining to us about the player we had grabbed. He was so knowledgable! He went over all of the things that we were going to need and even put in an order for us for something they didn’t have. We purchased the U-​Turn Orbitz Plus turn table and a preamp.
I will definitely be returning to expand my record collection!

What a great store! They pretty much have whatever kind of music you might be seeking and if you don’t see it out, just ask. One of the friendly staff will locate it: today a woman was looking for nuns chanting Tibetan music and sure enough they found it for her. They have a huge selection of vinyl and new music. Used cd’s are a bit annoying to pick through because they are arranged by date they came in (prices drop the longer they sit there) instead of by artist so you really have to take your time & be patient or you will overlook something for sure. They also have some fun knickknack and memorabilia and great t-​shirts. We come to Waterloo every time we are in Austin and head home with a big bag. Frankly there is nothing this good in NYC.

This is a really cool place, I love to see what they have in here every week lol because it seems that something new pops out at me everytime.

This place is pretty damn legit. I was told not to miss it when I made my way back down to Austin, and with good reason! The storefront might look small, but it is packed to the gills with goodies. Their record selection is pretty large — I found some rarities there that I did not expect to find, as well as some Blue Note Music Matters pressings, which are also pretty tough to find at a retail store.
Be careful, because they have a ton of things to tempt you, and if you have a loose wallet, you can spend way more than you planned to. Knick knacks, t shirts, posters, and a bunch of other music and pop culture related stuff, and that is in addition to their selection of records and CDs. The staff is very helpful for the most part, too.
If you are a record nut, this place is totally worth a visit!

Good variety of genres. From what I saw, a large portion were new records, so if you’re looking to browse used vinyl you may not get too far past the «New Arrivals» section. I read a lot of great things about the selection here but upon visiting left slightly disappointed. Not bad, not great. However, +1 for having a parking lot!

Really stunk because I only had limited time. Walked all the way to the store and they had a power outage. Waited outside (as requested) for 45 minutes. Gave up. Might call ahead to make sure they paid their electric bill…

One of Austin’s classic record stores — they sell records, CDs, DVDs, and other merchandise. Great place to shop for gifts! They also have a great selection of music by Texas artists — a whole wall of it, in fact. Definitely check it out!

Fantastic selection of vinyl!!! They even have a few record players you can sample records on. They also have used records for as cheap as 99 cents!!! Some of the newer vinyls are a little pricey but cheaper than it would be if you bought it at the merch stand during a show. They also have free live performances all the time inside the store. Plenty of souvenirs as well for you tourists lol. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I pop in here at least once a week even if I dont buy anything it is still a great place to browse.

Large selection of vinyls, used cd’s, and their Texas music section. I love coming here, perusing through their cd’s-and always find great bargains! They also have live performances here often-​free of charge while you shop! Staff is always friendly and helpful-​this is my favorite place to shop for music!

First time ever visiting this record store and I was amazed by the collection of vinyls and CDs they have. Some new and many old. Great service and awesome place. I will be revisiting again

Like my 5 star rating says, «good as it gets!». They have an amazing selection of vinyl, cds, and film. The only problem is they don’t have quite a few albums on vinyl. I couldn’t find AM by Arctic Monkeys, or 1989 By Taylor Swift, but I did end up buying rock or bust by AC/​DC for about $ 7, so that was nice. Overall this is a great music and film store that we are lucky to have in Austin.
Also the Rock or Bust 45′ I bought was $ 3 cheaper than what they were selling on Amazon ($ 10). And the cheaper the better.
UPDATE 4÷18÷15: It was record store day so I had to look around. And I did. I was mainly looking for new releases but, a lot were sold out. We got there pretty late. But I was able to font Taylor swifts 1989 album and that was awesome. But I still couldn’t find AM by Arctic Monkeys. But that’s alright :)

I love Waterloo Records. This is a spot I like to take guests from out of town.

This is where you go to shop for music if you are a real music lover. You will find great new music every visit.
This isn’t some chain that is just trying to get your money. The people here really love music.
Waterloo is such a huge supporter of the local music scene. That is so important to this town. We are lucky to have this gem in our city.

This place is amazing. They actually bring in many of the artists to come by and play a set right there in the store! Dig it!
They have a wide variety of CDs, of course. But what I like about this place is that the clerks who know their music put out little signs that show what they’re listening to, and make some really cool recommendations!
They’ve got a really cool book section, and their T-​Shirts are awesome!
They will let you listen to whatever you wanna here, so there’s no surprises on what you’re getting. Plus, this place has some of the coolest literature and band flyers around Austin! Right by the front window, all kinds of local bands drop off their demos and posters.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for Waterloo yet!
This place is great. They have plenty of odds and ends, CDs, records and more. You can drop in and get a Birthday present in a matter of minutes. The ONLY thing I have to say is that I don’t find the record selection the absolute best. Which I know some are hard to find and what not.
I will always still love Waterloo, though!

Waterloo is a audiophile’s wet dream. I am really not sure what to say about this place that hasn’t been said 100 times over. Impressive vinyl and one of the better selections of blind box toys in town. Also if you need some small Austin-​centric gifts this is a good stop.
Do as I do, get a table at 24 diner next door and then peruse Waterloo while you wait. That is a win-​win.

What more is there to say? Fine, I’ll go into a story. Sometimes I get anxious. Coming here and combing through CDs, DVDs, and vinyl helps me calm down.
The staff are knowledgeable and work hard at not being openly judgmental of anything you ask for.
I love it here.
