Wholly Kabob

I had the bowl with no rice and extra salad. This was good but what stole the show was the egg soufflé on the top (the vegetarian option). It smelled so good I started eating it in the car on the way home. Fresh, accommodating, and delicious! Look forward to going back!

I so wanted to like this place. Ugh, total fail. Don’t get me wrong the people taking orders are genuinely really nice that’s why it pains me to have to give this review but WOW!!! The Rice Bowl, really? We were at an open house event over the weekend and they were giving out free food tickets to some of the food trailers! We were super excited to see Wholly Kabon since both hubby & I are Vegans. We asked for the rice bowls with just veggies. They said they’d accommodate us by adding lettuce and making it a little more of a veggie rice bowl. The taste was pretty bleh, hummus was just like any store bought version, the tiny blurb of salad was really good but again these were kid friendly portions. No actual veggies aside from the main ones and no sides all for $ 9.50 they must be out of their minds! No side of pita, or chips, it was crazy expensive for these tiny little styrofoam containers. Thank goodness we didn’t have to pay or we’d been upset, cranky, and still super hungry. Sorry but could maybe give more food or add some sides for the extravagant price.

I was in town over the weekend and of course, I had to stop by wholly kabob! I thought I had already experienced heaven with their Shirazi Salad, until I was introduced to their hummus combined both together on a fresh slice of pita bread and there it was: The Wholly Ora! It’s true and it appeared over wholly kabob’s food trailer. I saw it!

The kabob was pretty good but when I asked to make it spicy, there was no chili sauce available.
I took the pita out but did taste a piece, it was cold and tasted store bought.
This place is fine if it is outside of your office, I am currently full and content, but I don’t think I will be stopping by again.

Not really a satisfying portion for $ 9.74. I got the Arab dude with chicken since they were out of beef and while it was decent, it was nothing special. The pita is just store bought and doesn’t taste fresh at all. A dry pita and slightly dry chicken with a bit oversalty filling and a small amount of food with no sides or anything makes for kind of a lackluster experience. For the price, I’d rather just go to Kebabalicious.
Also, in response to the owner’s South Park reply:
It’s cleary 3 tenders from the photo,
It was oversalted as mentioned by others as well,
Phoenicia or not, the pita was not fresh. Also not the first mention of this. Rather than offering up sarcasm, maybe address the actual issues people have. This might go over better with customers and reviewers.

I got the «Arab dude» with chicken when the truck came over to our office complex today. I can say confidently since I have tasted kabobs afghan, Indian, Turkish and Greek style in those regions and this recipe is right there at the top! Freaking good quality, well marinated meat and the salad was incredibly tasty. I would go again soon.

Really fresh and tasty prepared to order. Interesting combinations of flavors. Enjoyed and recommend!

Have been here a few times and have not been disappointed. My favorite item so far is their hummus, because it’s fresh made and has the right balance of flavors for my liking. Some Senors, Shirazi, and a few others are what I have had. The Kuku is next on my list. Looking forward to my next visit.

In a nutshell: great flavor, fresh food, so good.
I’ve eaten at Wholly Kabob a couple of times now. The first time we wandered over after a SipSip concert and I was starving. I got the drunken chicken and the flavors were out of this world. The portions were generous and the sauces were so good I wanted to cry. The yogurt sauce was refreshing and the jalapeño avocado sauce has a nice burn to it. I was very impressed when I saw the cook pull huge sword like skewers of fresh meat out of the fridge. It is cook to order so it takes a little while to get your order but it is SO WORTH the wait. The Shiraz salad is really great and the hummus is slightly tangy, which worked really well with my dish.
Another time I got the Mexican chicken and the Mexican salad that came with it was so good. The owner told me she roasted the corn herself. Incredible.
Last time I went I got the Kuku, it’s a sort of Persian Frittata. I’d never heard of it but I asked the owner to make me something special. Dear god. I’ve never had anything like it and I got it hot out of the oven. It was melt in your mouth good with red currents on top.
I can’t wait to go back!

I had the dude with chicken and it is so good. I have eaten here many times and never been let down. The service and speed was great even during sxsw. You haven’t had properly seasoned chicken until you’ve eaten here, and I stand by that.
The pita is fresh and good and so are all the veggies.
Especially love the Mexican sodas with full sugar mmm.

I had a wrap with chicken and tomato cucumber salad. The dressing and salad were tasty. The chicken was ok. I had to stand and eat. They were out of napkins and the dressing was runny and got all over me before I knew. But I was a little shocked at the price, more than $ 11 for that and a topo Chico. I tried to put off eating, but finally had to give in and I ate. It was at a race and I had to stick around. I didn’t see any other food trucks there. I would skip doing that again if possible

Wholly disgusting, is more like it.
I couldn’t eat this. I went here on a Sunday due to limited options and hoped Unilocal was just under-​voted this place.
Nope– wrong, wrong, wrong.
I ordered the special drunken American with chicken. The other reviews were right– so much salt. Good god. I had an aftertaste for fifteen minutes despite chugging water and that was only after a few bites. You know the premarinated HEB chicken and steaks? How they are drowning in sodium? That’s how this tastes.
I can also second that half the chicken was fat and gristle. Yummy.
Never never again.

So my original reason I came to this trailer park was to get philly cheese steak at another trailer. It made no sense for both my fiancé and I both get philly cheese steaks so I checked out this trailer. Menu looked good and I figured we could get the best of both worlds where he and I could share. Unfortunately I did not read Unilocal reviews until I was sitting and waiting for my food. What was I thinking?
I felt the prices were a bit high considering its a trailer, but I ordered anyway. I figured — who knows, it could be a good amount of food or even just plain so yummy that it makes it worth it. Hate to say — not the case.
Drunk American Pita Wrap with beef — I got it to go and by the time I got home the pity had gotten soggy (which I guess is the risk I take for taking it home). I had asked to add basmati rice too. Rice was a little hard and there was a lot of it. Makes me wonder how small the pita would’ve been if I hadn’t asked to add rice. Meat was pretty dry and too pepper spicy. Shirazi salad (mint cucumber tomato and red onion salad) was warm and I had hopes it would be a cool refreshing touch to the pita. I didnt really taste the yogurt or jalacado sauce (jalapeño and avocado) but maybe because it didn’t seem to have much of either in it. Overall dry and bland. I almost feel if the beef was a juicier it might have added more flavorful.

Kindaaa avoided this place cause of some of the mediocre reviews on here, but i thought it was pretty damn good… and i know a thing or two about brown-​man food
I’ll have to check it out again to see if its possibly hit-​or –miss, but man… my experience was not only delicious– it left my feeling awesome. Kind of a power meal with the hummus, lean meat, fresh veggies, yogurt sauce and authentic pita (non of that Kronos crap). I didn’t get a lethargic feeling i get after eating at some of the other greasy, though admittedly delicious, options @ East Side Filling Station.
The owner was super nice and made me a customized wrap with no up-​charge since it was my first time there. She was really passionate about her product and told me all about how she only uses grass fed beof and antibiotic-​free chicken which I’m all about. Pretty excited to go back and try the chicken w/​basmati rice bowl.

Like Michelle M, I too got the Kuku bowl. It’s a vegetarian (but not vegan, as it is egg based) with basmati rice, homemade hummus, cucumber, tomato & onion salad with a yogurt dressing. However —
The egg portion was fine, but cold. The rice was fine, but cold. The hummus was definitely near the ultra-​sharp-​flavored, about-​to-​spoil state I know well from having kept a number of hummus packages in my own fridge for too long. Bizarrely, the best part of this meal was the salad, which was decent.
This plus a Topo Chico set me back about $ 12.00+.
Additionally (as you can see from the first photo somebody’s posted here for this trailer on Unilocal) there is a relatively big round sticker that says «organic, gluten free!» — and while it all may be organic, all the things immediately next to the gluten free sticker are NOT gluten free, since they are sandwiches made with glutinous breads. (Yeah, I’m a guy who hates misleading signs.)
Although my service was cordial and prompt (so I’m bumping to 2.5 stars), there are other food trailer experiences to be had here in ye East Austin Food Court, so I’d look elsewhere.

I have been wanting to try this trailer FOREVER and can’t believe what a disappointment it was. I ordered the pita with chicken, rice, yogurt, veggies and it looked lovely. All that should have created a taste explosion, but it was awfully bland and my chicken was full of all those rubbery bits. Gag. This place seems to season with nothing but a bunch of salt. At $ 8.50 a wrap it was blah.
My girlfriend ordered a bowl of chicken and rice that came with humus. I get that the humus is low fat but it is also no taste. It even looks bad. And the texture is off. The «hummus» is nothing but some ground up chick peas in water.
The pitas were good tho … I scraped out most of my chicken and finished the rice and veggies wrapped in it.
This was «food trailer night» in the neighborhood so I would expect they were showcasing their best offerings. Girl with the filthy cut offs working the line didn’t help either.
If you want good kabob or anything tasting remotely ethnic or middle eastern go somewhere else. This place is good if you just want rice and a pita.

I saw a grown man cry while walking away, empty-​handed, from Wholly Kabob. He’d just been informed that they were only accepting cash, and I just don’t think he was ready for that kind of letdown. Who is on a Monday? But that was some straight-​up foreshadowing.
These guys parked near our office — it was just one guy, actually, taking money (without gloves) and preparing the orders (without gloves). The whole transaction came with constraints both spoken and not: «we’re only taking cash today; we’re out of beef.» I can still work with that. What he should have said was «hey, we’re unprepared: we only have chicken, and that wrap you just ordered that comes with chicken AND hummus? We’re out of hummus too. Surprise.»
So when I got to my desk to find that my wrap didn’t contain the advertised hummus, I was instantly sad because I KNOW what it means when there’s just chix: despite the tomato and two pickle slices, it’s about to be a mouth-​parching experience. I picked at my dejected chicken, trying to convince it that it was alright when we both knew it was not.
I might give them another try not on a Monday and not by my office; maybe they weren’t at their best. Who is on a Monday?

We had the Shirazi, with beef, in a bowl. Normally served a pita bread, a glutton allergy was happily accommodated for by the lovely young lady manning the cart. The beef was moist, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The cucumber based Shirazi was awesome and you could pick up a hint of dill in the herb mix that complimented the cukes, tomatoes, and onions. Highly recommend.

Everything sounded SO good at Wholly Kabob, and ultra fresh. Everything on their menu is packed with fresh organic veggies and herbs, grilled meats and fresh, all-​natural pita bread. I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted though. After talking with the girl in the trailer, I went with her suggestion: The Chicken Shirazi: herbs, cucumber, tomato, pickles, mixed onions, all tossed in mint and lemon juice. My mouth started watering just hearing her describe the flavors and I couldn’t wait.
She let me know it’d be 8 minutes, so I took my Coke and found a seat at a picnic table in the shade. I watched the dancers get filmed and spoke with a really nice Udi’s representative who gave me some of their gluten-​free samples to try, including a snicker doodle cookie. I’m not big into the whole gluten-​free thing, nor am I usually amped at all when it comes to any sort of diet, but I’m never opposed to free food!
Anyway, my non-​free food arrived a few minutes later, and I couldn’t wait to dig in. Steam poured out as I unwrapped the foil from around the pita, and with the steam came a true aromatic experience. The sandwich was anything but plain. It was full of vibrance and tons of color. The freshness was tangible and I took my first bite.
The flavors were explosive and exciting. The lime juice brightened everything up, and the crunchy veggies added a perfect textural contrast to the juicy chicken and chewy pita. Each bite was bursting with flavor and each bite made me happy. The best part? It was the perfect size. It left me feeling full, but not at all heavy. It was light, bright and felt good in my tummy. I’m SO happy I was finally able to eat at Wholly Kabob and it was just the perfect sandwich for this perfect day.

I was near here for trivia a few weeks ago, and went across the street to the trailer park in search for dinner. I’ve had Spartan Pizza, Fire and Soul, Way South Philly and was going to just go with one of them, when I stopped and saw this place. Mmm Mediterranean food… why not?
The owner is really friendly and will explain everything to you in detail. I got the Kuku bowl, which I’ve never had before, not even sure what Kuku was. She explained its kind of like a frittata, with an egg base and walnuts, currants, and other deliciousness all mixed together. I was sold. The bowl comes with basmati rice at the bottom, hummus (their hummus has an amazing texture, think of it like crunchy peanut butter), a salad, all warm.
Holy shit, batman!, did I inhale that bowl ;) it was so delicious, I didn’t notice anything around me, just me, the bowl and a beautiful evening in Austin.
I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking to get your Mediterranean fix. Also you get a free Mexican coke with a Unilocal check in!
