lol what a dump. if you’re trash and have no money then you can live here. respect yourself enough to live somewhere else. maintenance doesn’t speak English so you will never know what is fixed and how or why it happened, manager is lazy, staff doesn’t know what is going on.

Well, this is going to take awhile. The air conditioner leaked water in the bathroom, and after several months of complaining, they realized that the unit above the bathtub was very, very old. They replaced it and the thermostat in the living room. That’s when it would be set on cool and blow warm air for about 3 minutes before starting to blow cooler air. That was causing our electric bill to increase. It did this everytime since they replaced that stuff. We told them and they said there was nothing they could do.
The hot water situation is terrible also. At least twice a month they are having to shut the water completely off. Then for a day, you have NO HOT WATER AT ALL. Two years ago, the hot water was turned off for TWO WEEKS on Thanksgiving week and weekend.
The apt above us has a problem with their floor. It squeaks and creaks almost as if the person upstairs is going to fall through. We talked with management about this and they said the floor up there needed to be reinforced, but would never do it cause it cost them too much money. So you could hear EVERY STEP the creepy guy took.
And there is the issue of neighbors. We were in a 2^nd floor apt and the creepy guy up stairs was always making so much noise that we could not even hear our television. We complained many times and the manager accused us of causing trouble with HIM. And then a guy moved down below us with two really big dogs that barked all the time very loud. After complaining to the management several times, that finally stopped. Then the same guy started playing very, very loud music. Loud enough to rattle the glass patio door. We told mangagement again many times about this and they would NOT DO ANYTHING. I finally had to call the police and they talked to him several times, but he would get mad and after the police left, he would pound on our floor, (his ceiling) because he was mad. Then there is the mailbox breakins. It was happening for months, along with car breakins. Neighbors complained about the drug sells in the back of the complex, but I don’t know except what I was told by other neightbors.
The legally placed handicap sign that my wife legally used was always taken by unlicensed people parking there to get their mail or go into the office for whatever reason.
That was our limit, and I saved money up to move and gave our notice. My wife almost broke her back (she is very handicapped) to clean the bathroom of grout that had turned black in the shower due to maintenance not replacing as we had suggested several times, and we cleaned the apt up as best we could.
But two weeks after moving out, we get a letter saying we stole a shelf out of the bedroom? closet and the grout was dirty. We also got charged for cleaning the carpet, which we vacuumed but was in need of replacing anyway. Most apt’s replace the carpet before renting to someone else. But they say we owe $ 100 dollars for all this, which we HAVE TO PAY or they will report us as bad credit when our rental history is PERFECT!!!
I would not recommend this apt complex to any one. It is not worth dealing with all this inexcusable down-​keep of an apt complex.

Very dishonest! I think they took advantage of the fact I hadn’t asked for a copy of my 30 days notice. I’ve never done that before. I gave my notice they“lost” it and found it toward the end of the month. I don’t think it was right for my notice to have started when they found that, I was like but I turned that in at the end of April? I was like whoever I gave that to said they would give that to a manager to sign when they came in, how would the notice start now at the end of the month its not my fault you lost that? I learned too late that my notice still would have counted even if you hadn’t signed it. I’m usually really nice so they probably thought I just go along with them. I think they were keeping that on hold so if they did find someone to re-​rent my apartment by end of the month they would accept my notice and if not, give themselves an extra 2 months to find someone and not count my notice and I’d be on month to month for another month? It also have issue with cockroaches and mold. I was feeling sick for a few weeks and noticed some dark splotches in the bathroom. maintenance came by and was like thats just paint and painted over it white. I felt better! I still did a mold test and it came back positive. I’m still waiting for the results if harmful. The cockroaches have been terrible since moving in. I’m pretty clean but there was a pretty bad infestation. To do viper treatment I would need to pay them more.

Do you want a hot shower in the morning before work? Or maybe just any water that’s not absolutely cold? If the answer to that question is yes then don’t live here. *IF* the water is on, and its off as much as it’s on, the there probably isn’t hot water because the entire complex shares something ridiculous like 3 small hot water heaters.
At Wind River Crossing you pay a lot of money for hot water but you will not ever get to use it.

I’m about halfway through my lease now and I have to say that this place definitely became worse with each passing day. I’ve had several maintenance problems, the worst of which is a constantly flooding dishwasher. I used to wash all my dishes by hand in order to save on my water bill. Now I have no choice but to use the dishwasher quite often so I can get the water to drain in order to prevent it from spilling out onto my floor. Of course my water bill has increased significantly because of this. The maintenance guys have been trying their best to fix it but even they’ve admitted that the dishwasher probably just needs to be replaced altogether. Management putting forth the effort to replace a whole dishwasher? Yeah, maybe in my dreams. Unfortunately like many other residents I have also had issues with my hot water and management seemed to drag their feet on fixing that too. Surprise, surprise. Come to think of it, management just seems to not really want to put an effort towards anything at all. What makes this all even more particularly bothersome is the way management cops an attitude every single time someone puts in a complaint or a request regardless of how polite the tenant is. I will say that the maintenance crew and Samantha are genuinely very nice people. Everyone else on the other hand have some really nasty attitudes all day every day. Broken appliances, lack of hot water, crappy parking lots, loud neighbors: I can handle all that. I know that with my current financial situation I could be living in a lot worse. However an extremely lazy management with a sour persona that rears its ugly head every time you interact with them is something I can not put up with on top of all the other issues with this place. My suggestion is that if you find or can afford some place better, do so. You’re far better off skipping this place.

Rent is cheaper here for a reason. Apts are outdated, run down, & old. And the management here SUCKS! I regret moving here but stuck here until I move out. Don’t move here, you’ll regret it. I have a running toilet that they can’t seem to fix, yet my water bill shows this. I have other issues and the management basically told me tough shit, deal with it kinda attitude. And I’m a NEW resident, only 30 days been living here! Stay away!!!

Ok well, before moving here this place had 3 stars, now it has 1. I was so scared to move here because of the bad rating and it hasn’t been as bad. We moved here about 3 months ago and I would say it’s just ok. Thank God we haven’t had rat problems (well, we only heard one ONCE). but I would agree on these things
1. They showed us a nice apartment and then they said that wasn’t available anymore so we got another one that was definitely in worse shape.
2. It smelled BAD. Really bad. As in, I can’t stand it bad. But, we told management and they sent someone to wash the carpet right away.
3. We’ve had minor maintenance problems, and they’ve sent people to fix it right away. I mean they are just temporary fixes, but the response if fast.
4. Office staff has always been nice to us.
5. Pool area and tennis court is almost always clean. Sometimes they close it because it gets gross after busy weekends and whatnot.
6. I often see people cutting grass, etc.
7. The place is OLD and it needs some love for sure, if you’re not too picky and looking for a cheap place with good location, this is it.
I really hope they do change things though, all the bad reviews are not for nothing.

Please don’t live here! We moved in Nov. 2014 and stuck for another 6 months. The hot water goes out every week or so and neighbors have all said that it’s always been this way.
Now that it’s summer, the AC doesn’t work and runs all day although we keep it at 78 when home and 82 when we’re at work. The best part is the $ 80 water bills and $ 300 electric bills! So we have to suffer all summer long and STILL pay a high bill. They refuse to fix it because it isn’t «broken». I’d rather pay the $ 300 more towards a nicer apartment and enjoy a climate-​controlled environment.

I have never written a review before but I am a current tenant here. Last month my hall bathroom flooded twice in about 1 week. I was told it was a septic system back up both times. I was extremely frustrated with the response to this. The emergency line hung up on me so I had to call multiple times to get through. The first time it flooded my carpet I had to clean everything up myself and they called me back to schedule cleaning my hall carpet. The carpet was finally cleaned a week after the flood. The second time it flooded was a Sunday. The flooding was worse and the water kept coming. I reported it twice. The plumber came Monday afternoon. Tuesday night the carpets were finally being dried but there was still water on the bathroom floor. I had a few personal items get damaged as well because of the amount of water and that the water was not cleaned up promptly. I’m now being told that because the flooding was caused by another tenant management is not liable and will not reimburse me. Update 7÷23÷15 it’s been two weeks since I emailed the regional administrator and I have not gotten a response yet.

Do not move here. RATS, RATS, RATS!!! This place is a fucking nightmare, you can’t get mail. There are stupid people that walk all among us at this apartment and they will kill you. These are just not good people, and rats.

I went to office for several times to complain
After 2 months they send a guy to put some type of spray to make the bad smell go away

Please read ALL the negative reviews (as of right now they ONLY have 1 star) before deciding that their cheap rent is worth it. It’s not. This is the first review that I truly wish I could give 0 stars to. It has been a few months since I have lived there, but I know through friends that wind river is still in terrible shape, both on the property and with management. I will try to not rant, but I still hold on to a lot of anger from my unfortunate one year lease here. If you don’t feel like reading into my terrible experience, please take it from me and every single person I have ever spoken to that has lived here. Stay away. Do not lease here, you will be severely disappointed.
Where do I even start? I moved in after an unexpected break up. It was the middle of summer and I needed something quick and inexpensive since I didn’t not have a deposit saved up. I picked wind river because the staff seemed very nice and helpful and the apartment they showed me looked older but cute. I was super excited to move in, but that changed very quickly. I’ll start off with some of the maintenance issues. when I moved in (in August) my AC was not working and it was over 95 in my apartment. I called for maintenance but did not get my AC fixed for over two weeks. It happened again the following summer in May and the same thing happened, it took them weeks to repair it. This time I had a puppy and had to pay for her to stay at a boarding facility so that she would not overheat. When my toilet broke, in a one bedroom/​one bathroom apartment, it took OVER two weeks for them to fix, even though I called multiple times a week. I was even lied to that someone had come by, seeing as I had been home all day on the day in question. I was told neither the AC (in Texas heat!) nor a broken/​non functioning toilet was considered an emergency therefore they would get to it when they get to it. Great. I ordered cable and Internet as soon as I moved in but all 3 of the cable outlets did not work and were never fixed my entire stay there. My hot water also went out at least once a month. I only called on it once because the one time that I did they came to check it, almost a week after he complaint, and the hot water was working again. The apartment manager called me while I was at work just to laugh and say I was probably turning the wrong knob. I was very upset with the way she handled things.
Now on to my lovely alcoholic downstairs neighbor. The very first day I moved in, while the movers were still bringing my stuff in, my downstairs neighbor started banging on my door. She was extremely rude and actually yelled at me saying that she worked nights and that I was making too much noise. I apologized and immediately called the office to tell them what happened and was assured she was a great tenant and that I should not have any issues with her. Throughout the course of my lease she had written me multiple harassing letters that she attached to my door and car, made false accusations about me and my 15 pound dog to management, and was beating at my door drunk threatening to break in at 2am one morning. It got so bad I had called the police multiple times and I had the courtesy officers number on speed dial. She was told to stop the harassing behavior and that if she did not she was be kicked out. That never happened. I even offered to move out into another apartment in a different building and was told that she would be taken care of it she didn’t change. I eventually wrote a certified letter to the corporate office trying to break my lease, something that I have NEVER done. They called me after receiving the letter and was told I could not break my lease and that her behavior was not considered harassment (Although the police officers who I dealt with my case and the courtesy officer both agreed it was harassment). I was also told it was not her fault that she was hearing so much noise, even when I was just WALKING across my floor, because «the concrete between our floors was cracked». Direct quote that there was structural damage to the building I was living in causing my drunk neighbor to bang on her ceiling and harass me daily. I ended up moving out 4 months early and was forced to pay double rent those months. It was absolutely terrible financially and yet it was so amazing not having to walk on eggshells and kennel my dog upwards of 20 hours a day.
I am still at the complex I left wind river for and I am still completely happy. Crazy right? It is in fact possible to to like, if not LOVE, your apartment. Just not at wind river.

I’ve never actually reviewed on Unilocal before but I went out of my way to download the app and sign up just so I could write a review on this apartment complex. Warning others to refrain from renting here is that important to me.
This is for everyone but females especially:
Please be aware that this is not a safe place to live. Day and night there are extremely suspicious looking people walking through the community. Many live there and many are friends. This is not a gated community and anyone can come onsite at any time.
Honestly, I try to run when I get out of my car because I’m so cautious. If I were living in government-​assisted housing then perhaps I could expect this, but this place (while one of the more affordable apartment complexes in Austin), isn’t dirt cheap.
I have read other reviews on here and have had almost identical experiences:
Like others, I was told I couldn’t view the apartment. They give excuses and show pictures of what you will get and it’s not similar in the least. I was really sad when I first walked into my apartment.
In an older apartment, you can expect the normal faulty appliances every now and then but you should also expect that management, being aware of supervising a complex this old, would also expect this and be prepared rather than acting caught-​off-​guard when something isn’t working in your unit.
The maintenance workers are nice, but unfortunately only respond to what management instructs them to do and management is very slow to do so.
I won’t go into too many details of my living experience but let’s just say that in addition to not being a safe place to live, it is extremely gross. The grounds are very unkempt and there is an extreme lack of order.
The positives are as follows:
— Yes, this is an affordable place to live if you are on a budget and are not too concerned about visual appeal or safety.
— The location is wonderful. Right on 183 and next door to the Arboretum.
— Very casual staff (could be viewed as a positive or negative).
Hope this helps but my advice is to not rent from here until the owner (s) of the complex receive enough complaints to motivate them to make a lot of changes which need to be made!

Dont rent anything from this placed my daughter did and when her babys daddy started hitting her she went to the office to get moved they would not let her so she had to break the lease and the baby daddy stayed there and was thrown out. They would not work with her at all. So now she can not get a place to live.

I hate to speak so badly of a place, but wrc is a constant let down. The worst place I’ve ever lived. The office assistance is a joke. No one contacts residents about anything, like when the power will be shut off in your building, or when your mail boxes are vandalized and mail is no longer being sent to your address… just to name a couple annoyances. Also, maintenance takes a ridiculous amount of time, days, if they ever answer your request at all, and likely not the way they should. You’re promised new appliances and a nicer apartment than the one you actually move into… I feel that I was tricked into moving here, but you can be sure this is my first and last year at this terribly run place. Good luck to current residents. I hope your experience is less trying than mine, and future residents beware.

I now have a ridiculously bad roach problem. Pest control has been out numerous times, and I’ve tried everything I can think of to get rid of them. I’m a clean person, and have become even cleaner since I started seeing about 20 roaches a day. They’re in my bathroom, my bedroom, MY BED, my kitchen, my laundry room, my dining room… everywhere. Seriously people. Avoid this place like the freaking plague. It’s a nightmare. I have to sleep with ear plugs in my ear so the roaches don’t crawl into my ears. I cannot wait to get out of here.

We moved in on 4÷28÷12. I had visited this property during my apartment search. They showed me a nice looking 2 bedroom apartment. They said that I would be moving into one just like this and pointed to the unit. I asked to be shown it and they said I couldn’t see it since it was being made ready. I had to choose that one and commit site unseen. I had no reason to question that.
As our friends/​movers and us were moving in we all stumbled on the floor at the entry way. The flooring under the carpet along all the heavily-​used traffic areas has a level difference where it could be level then your heel can drop into a hole.
After reports in writing they finally repaired almost all the problems in the living room floor. The contractor pointed to other spots in the living room and said it was not in the budget to repair that one. The 2 bedrooms, in front of master vanity and the hallway were left unrepaired. We still have a wobbly floor to walk on.
The second bathroom was used as a kennel by a previous tenant. The door frame is chewed up, the cabinet edges are chewed, the room has a detectable smell like a dog’s bathroom. The fake floor was being laid as we were moving in and it is hiding an uneven flooring problem. This has been reported in writing. A lady in the office said it would all be replaced but I have heard nothing officially and nothing has been done.
The most severe problem was the first 3 days we were in this place we sweat because the AC was not working. The air flow was a tenth the strength as it should be (I fixed this accidentally a month into this by replacing the air filter which was caked with an inch of dirt — obviously not replaced before we moved in), the blower motor runs consistently, it reads 77 but the place is hot and humid, they continue to say well there’s enough freon or there were ants in the switch box or call the City of Austin because it’s their thermostat or some other red herring argument… but nothing has repaired this permanently.
The Austin Tenant’s Council is now getting involved. It will be repaired.
The sad thing is I like the location in town, the view from our balcony, the size of the space. Yes it is 35 years old now but still potentially a good place. It’s just too bad the owners/​investors are so unscrupulous as to have a manager who is clearly charged with dismissing tenant’s claims and tries to tire out the tenants so the claims are ignored so they don’t have to spend money.
If I was in a good unit this would be a great place to live. So, at this point I’ll start making friends with my neighbors and find out if our experience is unique although I’m certain it’s not. I’ve already heard about another person’s problem.

6÷22÷12 update: After I wrote a letter with the legalese you are supposed to say about maintenance (
) a great new stove came in to replace the hot box that couldn’t boil water rapidly and 325 degrees in the over meant 410 to 375 fluctuating degrees.
Today they are replacing our internal AC unit component. I left at 1 because it’s hot and found out they had the wrong size replacement unit — after they took the old one out; typical of an unfocused maintenance plan. They are supposed to have it repaired. We’ll see.
The Austin Tenant’s Council called last week and left a message. No one has returned their call. Add avoidance to the management tactic.
