Specialties

Book your place in our weekly creation workshops, our monthly manuscript groups, or start a Creation Package of editing services. Weekly Creation Groups make stories grow. Classes are held in North and South Austin. Join a manuscript group with your book in progress. Monthly groups grow fiction and memoir.

As an editor and coach, I help writers no matter where they stand in the creation journey. Starting with a dream and an idea? You’ve written some and now have a good start, but need help through the middle? Making the last kick to completion? Count on my 35 years of editing and industry experience to help you write what the world wants to read. Together we can develop your first draft, getting your book ready for the world, then building synopses and queries for agents and editors — or publishing on your own with indie options.

History

Established in 2006.

We launched our business with our popular weekly writing groups, providing writers a place to create and polish their creations in a social, in-person setting. Soon there were manuscript workshops, where novelists and memoir writers brought sections of their books for workshop response, following the Amherst Writers & Artists practices. Now we’re serving writers for coaching and editing of their work, helping them from inspiration to publication.

Meet the Business Owner

Ron S.

Business Owner

I’m a storyteller, novelist, journalist, cyclist, a lover of comedy and drama, dreaming, and redemption. As director of The Writer’s Workshop, I’m a coach for writers and a teacher of authors and anyone who dreams of unlocking their stories. Grandfather of 4. Husband of 25 years. Walker of Tess Harding, standard poodle.

I run The Writer’s Workshop from Austin, coach writers, and edit books from writers everywhere. If you’d like to learn more about creating stories, read my writing tips and advice about publishing at The Write Stuff blog. Or visit a workshop meeting. After publishing my debut novel Viral Times, I’m now at work on Monsignor Dad, historical fiction from the turn of the century about forbidden romance, the promises and penances of the Catholic Church, and a father reaching for connection with his only son.
