Dive Catalina

We went both snorkeling and scuba diving with these guys. Al was an amazing snorkeling tour guide – he brought out the best sights in Lovers Cove.
Our scuba lesson was perfect. My boyfriend and I each had our own instructor/​guide. Both Ron and Chance were very knowledgeable about scuba and about the Catalina flora and fauna, which made for a great tour. They kept us laughing and smiling the entire time. We’re so happy with these guys, we’re going back at the end of the summer. Would definitely recommend.

I don’t know how I feel about this, first time water tourist coming into the water feeding fish. Getting them to swarm as they frenzy for the best bite of the tourist paid fish food. I a way it’s a great way to get people excited to want to preserve our oceans natural habitats. In the other hand, having fish associate divers are all friendly, until they swim out of the protected zone in which I wait with a speargun, aiming at it’s gills to paralize it, because when I look at a creature as a source of food. The only thing that would save it is it’s natural fear of humans. I just wish we can have divers explore without feeding the fish. The same way they don’t allow people to feed wild animals in national parks, same rules should go with the dive park. We are to be observers, watching them go about their natural way. These fish come so close you can touch them, at times pet them, and this lack of fear for our species in my opinion is unhealthy. Part of why I love spearfishing is the hunt, having to outsmart your prey just like how cave people did it. But when they come up to you expecting food, I just don’t feel the honor in shooting them.

After getting certified about a year ago I wanted to dive Catalina but couldn’t find anyone to go with me so I called Ron. Took Catalina Express over and met with Ron. He had everything ready and we went diving. The dive was great except I lost my fairly new Sony $ 400 actioncam off my head at some point. I was bummed a little but told myself not to let it ruin my dive which is the first dive since getting certified. After the dive was done Ron said he wold keep an eye out for my camera since he was doing a couple more dives that day. I didn’t really think he would find it but sure enough on my way back to Long Beach I get a call from Ron saying he found my camera and is going to send to me. I thought that was very cool and honest of him. I’m sure I will be back again sometime to do another dive with Ron.

Ron and Chance are bar none the BEST! We had a great time and always felt safe. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone.

We had such a pleasant dive experience with Ron and Chance at Dive Catalina! I told Ron that it was my first time diving. I’ve never really been a strong swimmer and I was nervous about being able to clear my ears on the way down. He assured me that a little bit of the jitters was perfectly normal and that I would be safe and comfortable on my dive. We went slow and he made sure that I was okay every step of the way. Once I was in the water, I wasn’t nervous at all. He made sure I was comfortable and the team’s on-​land prep made me feel more than ready and to dive in safely. I’d recommend this company to everyone. They really cater to your skill level no matter how experienced you are. I felt safe and excited to try scuba diving for the first time. I’m sure we’ll be back to see Chance and Ron again!

The Dive Warriors is a group of disabled military veterans who recently came to Catalina Island for a long over due dive. We used Dive Catalina for all of our diving needs. Easy and efficient gear rentals. Equipment is in excellent condition. Super friendly and helpful. Their level of excellence surpasses all others on the island.

We had such a great time! Ron and Chance are wonderful, so helpful and patient. They made sure we were comfortable and confident during our dive. We are definitely looking forward to coming back.

Me and the girlfriend went here to go snorkeling for the first time. Despite it being the Pacific Ocean and winter time, the staff (Chance) got us nice thick wet suits and set us up nice. He was also very helpful, showed us the ropes and was a great instructor. Was also very comical and made it a great experience! Would like to try scuba through this company!

Ron and Frank are so patient, helpful and friendly n make first dive experience the best n most comfortable introductory dive. Very accommodative folks. Hatsoff to your experience and expertise. #1 recommended thing to do in Catalina Island.

My boyfriend and I had our first scuba experience with Ron and Chance, really nice guys. I was super nervous and didnt think I would be able to actually do it. Chance was so calming and took good care of me underwater. I had a moment of panic and he could tell… he totally calmed me down… we asended just a few inches and he brought me down a bit more and I suddenly was very at ease. I would most definately recommend these guys for the first timers. Friendly, entertaining and really cool peeps.

Today we had the opportunity to explore the underwater world with Ron Moore and Chance the two dive instructors taking us out for the first time. Ron and team explained what we needed to know for our first time intro dive. We learned the basics to keep our ears clear and breathe easy underwater. The clarity of the water and close one to one instruction and guidance helped to ease into this easily. I would recommend if you ever want to explore scuba diving, this is the place. Very nice and attentive staff let you go at your pace and are very encouraging. We will be back soon! Thanks

Our group booked a boat dive with Ron on the phone about a month and ½ or so ahead of time and left our phone number (Ron repeated it back to be sure). I regret this could not have been done with written confirmation of some sort.
Half of our group flown out from Texas just to do this dive. Day before, we hadn’t heard anything from them so our group member emailed them just to confirm again. He gets an email back from Connie saying we didn’t show up for our dive that day and didn’t have our number. This shop has the worst record keeping we’ve ever encounter, they can’t keep their schedule straight much less retain customer information. They should have a system in place to have email or some sort of written confirmation so this doesn’t happen. Or don’t allow Ron to book anything ever. I found similar stories on here and trip advisor with him apparently messing up booking.
So, they offered us full gear to do dive park instead at full price, mind you we wanted a boat and spent an enormous amount of money just to get to Catalina. I expected for their mistake they would of offered some discount, the boat was important to us. Since we were pretty much screwed, we decided it was our best option so we went with it. It gets worse.
Next day, we are on 6:15 am Catalina express for island, we arrived first thing at 7:30 am at the Dive Catalina and guess what? They had NO TANKS for us. Apparently full gear doesn’t include tanks? How were we suppose to dive without tanks?! Voicing our frustration and leaving the shop, an employee chased us out and asked for our phone number AGAIN (I guess third times a charm?) and said he would talk to Ron and call us. We never got a call. Never heard from this shop again. I will never go back and discourage anyone else from going here.
Luckily, we went to another scuba shop on the island and fortunately they were able to give us full gear WITH TANKS for dive park last minute, thank goodness.
I am honestly shocked how this shop manages to stay in business with divers. I’ve dived at various other shops around the world and never experienced anything like this. Honestly with how forgetful they are with scheduling and call back, I honestly wouldn’t entrust my safety with them in diving. It was not our fault they can’t keep their record keeping straight. I don’t think they realized how much money we spent just to get to Catalina (2 people flying in from Texas) to dive on a boat with them, and they don’t seem to care.
I am so thankful for the other dive shop on the island, because Catalina was beautiful dive and I am so happy I was able to do it despite it not being on a boat, yet so frustrated that it almost didn’t happen because of Dive Catalina.

My girlfriend and I came here to scuba dive for our anniversary and it was an amazing experience. We have never been scuba diving before but that wasn’t an issue. We both got our own instructors and they walked us through everything and kept us safe at all times. I went under with frank who was very knowledgable and showed me everything there was to see underwater. Ill never forget this experience and i will definitely be back.

Ron Moore is the best! I loved the intro dive. It was amazing! I had zero scuba diving experience and Ron made dive so much fun!!! Highly recommend! Request Ron!!!

We had a great time diving with Ron. This was our second attempt to dive in Catalina. The first time the weather was not as nice as we would like it to be, but this time was just amazing. Sunny and clear :)
The check in was very easy and they are located right next to where the ferry dropped us off. So, it was all very convenient. We rented gold carts and bicycles right next door. They drove us to the Casino point where we had the pleasure to dive with Ron.
We had a great experience diving with this company. We saw beautiful fishes and the instructor was great.

It was awesome experience with them. The instructor very friendly n the lady was also friendly n accommodating. She gave us separate privacy for changing dresses specially to me n mom who is 58 years came from India to visit US. My entire family loved the experience. Awesome in a word.

Me and my husband tried introductory diving at Casino Point diving park with Ron and Chance. We do not have any prior diving experience, honestly i can barely swim, haha. But they took good care of us. My ears got uncomfortable when I went down, so Chance took me up to the surface like twice. When there are some pretty fish or crab, Chance also pointed them out so I can look at that way. I think me and my husband will keep on talking about this wonderful experience :)

My fiancé and I went diving with Ron last week for my birthday and had a fantastic time. For a private dive, the prices were very reasonable and Ron and Chance were super helpful with getting to and from the dive site and also with the dive itself. They even washed my gear for me afterward. The Casino Park is a great place for beginner divers and with the wetsuits from the shop, the 61 degree water did not feel cold at all.

I went diving at Casino Point with Ron Moore and had an amazing time! He was friendly, experienced, knowledgable about the local marine life and made me feel comfortable in the water. We went down to about 60 feet and had really good visibility. I hadn’t gone diving for many years, and was really happy that I had Ron as a guide. We saw a sea lion up-​close! We also saw many different kinds of fish and even a lobster. It was like we were in an aquarium, except we were in the ocean. Definitely my best shore-​dive ever!

Staff was very friendly and willing to help us choose the right equipment. On an island of people who seem to just want money, this place made us feel like more than just an opportunity for dollars and cents.
It makes «cents» to visit Dive Catalina!
